    Just got here 3 weeks ago... have lived here before.. still a bit on the fence in terms of If I wanna stay or move to Thailand but then I always get that in the first month... once I get over that I just don't wanna go anywhere else lol Its so much more chilled than living in the west... Wherever I end up, I don't think I will ever go back to live in UK again!

      When you visit Vietnam, please take time to go visit the native Khmer Krom people. They are being deprived of their basic human rights. Recently, the Vietnamese government jailed ten Khmer Krom activists for fighting for their rights which guaranteed by the United Nations and Vietnam also a signatory. Thank you for your kind attention.

    Teaching jobs are great but they aren't meant to sustain you long term. A lot of people dont realize that teaching English is an entry level job. Teach to fund your travels and have fun for a few years but just make sure you plan for your future too if you plan on living there permanently because eventually teaching wont be enough to sustain the same type of lifestyle.

      There are plenty of opportunities to progress in ESL in Vietnam: management roles, teacher training, curriculum development, test prep, and you can also consider doing a PGCE / teaching license / QTS after getting a couple of years experience and working in international schools.

      @@ninja.teacheryes you’re correct. I should’ve been more specific. Teaching is great for single people and if they plan on staying in Vietnam for a while. I was referring to the older teachers who want to settle down, get married, start a family, etc. and sure they can get by but most of the time they end up moving back home and all of a sudden become a little behind in terms of career wise. As long as they plan ahead and are smart financially (most traveler aren’t) then they’ll be fine. These girls seem smart as well so they’ll most likely end up fine too.

    • @josef2158
      @josef2158 5 місяців тому

      I guess they feel safe knowing there's strength in numbers. The tay ba lo with certificates and degrees in irrelevant disciplines far outnumber the real teachers in Vietnam. Besides, tracking them all down and holding them accountable must not be a top priority, especially since the schools and centers that employ them either have connections in government, or bribe the right people.

    • @joehavermann7729
      @joehavermann7729 4 місяці тому

      @@josef2158Based on your comments (here and elsewhere), you clearly hold these TEFL-certified teachers in contempt. I can't speak to that. But I will point out that academic research into the role of teacher credentials on student performance is mixed. Generally, it shows some improvement on student performance in some disciplines (like math), coupled with the negative outcomes that you'd expect from erecting barriers to entry. (Fewer teachers, leading to shortages, larger class sizes with less time for students.)
      People with teaching credentials are probably more effective on net, which is why they command a much higher salary, but it's not true that students don't learn if the teacher lacks those credentials: you can learn algebra from a person who doesn't have a degree in math. The credentials aren't some magic potion. There are some terrible teachers who have their credentials, and some excellent teachers who don't.

Because of this, I was able to get a temporary visa to stay which needs to be renewed every 3 years. It would be difficult for you to get a visa here. One down side also is Aussies living overseas do not get pension. I worked 35 years dutifully paying my taxes and what does the Aussie government give me...nothing, unlike the American system. @@wildcat4701 What ? They do but they can not check foreigners. In Vietnam if you have been to jail it will be very hard for you to find a decent job because that record will go with you forever and companies just throw your CV to the bin once they knew. But they can not check legal status of foreigners so like i said if you do not mention about your past , they have no idea. However they will know if you committed any crimes in Vietnam though

      @@phanhuyduc2395 well I didn't go to jail. But just minor stuff, and from what I read you must have a clean criminal record. But there are always away around situations ,😉

    It’s Ho Chi Minh City not Saigon. So ignorant, look up why it’s called that. Must be Americans lol.

      Move on. Obviously YOU haven’t ever been to hcmc because you chose to publicly display your ignorance. The majority of Vietnamese use both names out of respect to the elderly. I really don’t have enough time and crayons to explain this to you.

      You can call it Saigon or HCMC. But most people still love to call it Saigon because of the history, culture, and what it represents. Saigon forever…

      There are only 2 Americans in this interview one of them even refers to it as “Ho Chi Minh” @9:56. It doesn’t really matter because it can be referred to as either HCMC or Saigon.

    Start your intro with where you each are from etc …. The poor Vietnamese have to try to decipher all these different English dialects….. shame American pronunciation is much easier to both enunciate and to understand say my former Vietnamese students

    As a Vietnamese who studied in the USA, I have to say it’s a shame Vietnam will remain a third world slum country for generations to come, because of the indiscriminate littering and lack of traffic law enforcement. Garbage and chaos of traffic everywhere is exactly depicted of a third world country. Sad.
    So I hope that these English teachers can teach the Vietnamese not to litter indiscriminately and respect the rule of law.
