@@MichelleSchmus it is my understanding that to get the umpteen million year storage, or those 20 to 25 years, you need to use a mylar bag and not a jar. I know that some things you absolutely do not use oxygen absorbers, for some you absolutely should use them, and yet others it simply prolongs the shelf life. In the case of these legumes im guessing that an oxygen absorber is not needed for several year's worth of storage because a properly but traditionally dried and stored legume can last on the shelf for several years. In the case of regular, store bought legumes if they haven't gotten wet before and after you bought them and dont absorb ambient moisture from the air while being stored, they just continue to dry out and shrink while being stored; else they can mold or something, you can tell by looking at them. That old pea sheller is so awesome I love love old things like that. I still have my moms old roller washing machine and looking at it makes me want to cry remembering her wash and hang our clothes on the clothes line outside ❤. Btw I’d love to try Brooks cornbread yum 😋
My goodness! You pick all those peas. . And then you shell them.. that machine is awesome. I remember sitting with my grandmother on her front porch and stringing green beans for canning. There was nothing better than those pink purple hulls, which we also called field peas, and cornbread. I was born in Panama City and my great grandmother lived in Graceville-Chipley area. That soil produced the best peas. Butter beans and shucking corn was also a fun chore. They grew peanuts and we would boil them in those huge cast iron kettles all day. I’m 73 now and how I wish I could have one more day on that porch shelling with them and cooking those peas. Your Texas friend
Your videos are so soothing and peaceful. I really enjoy watching 😊 Thank you.
I do remember the pea shelling machine. It’s amazing
Oh goodness! Those peas are beautiful!!! I spent many a summer helping my Daddy pick em and eating them with a big pan of cornbread after Momma cooked them. Those were good days!!!!
I like how when you talk about pests then you show us a picture of a pest. Makes me smile.
Wow! You guys sure picked a mess if peas!!!! Your family's shelling machine was amazing!
Just LO💚E the Smiles of Joy when You all speak of the passing down of the farming tools etc from your granddaddy - I remember when you acquired the shelling machine from him years ago - it was such a sun shiny day! ☀️
Good morning! Cool machine! Your grandpa was a smart fellow!!
You guys have thousands of the pink eyed, purple hulled beans. Wow. And I don't think I have ever eaten one. That machine makes quick work of shucking. Good job. 💞💞💞
Going on your website today and ordering two bags of coffee! Take care in that heat, take plenty of water and shade breaks, and pace the fence building. No need to risk heat stress. Your family and ability to take care of your farm for the long haul is way more important.
Jason you and Brooke should patent that machine and sell it to the world. What a wonderful invention. Your family rocks and I love you all.
Good morning CogHill and CogSquad 😊❤
I am blown away by thst 80 yr old machine. This whole vlog was relaxing and so easy to immerse yourself into the story and imagine farm and growi g work in a whole difgerent manner. I am jealous of them and mow. Thank you for the excursion into time
Thank you so much for this video. It’s just amazing, never seen anything like it. I ‘m sure you will be selling peas at your produce stand. Wish I was there to buy some. Now you can go back to fencing, God bless ❤
I love that old pea sheller that has been in your family for 80 years. It’s so much faster than doing it by hand. I just love watching you two doing your thing on the farm. Pretty amazing! Lester loves your coffee.
Love to you all darlins ❤.🇦🇺🇦🇺I’ll watch all in the morning .. I’m looking forward to it 😊
Love that old wonderful machine. Such ingenuity and works so well many decades later 🥰
The peas look good freeze dried and put up. Fantastic harvest. 👍👍❤️❤️🇨🇦
I absolutely love watching you all. And at a time when history and the virtues of what has been passed down from our ancestors, thank you for honoring what you have received from your ancestors. ❤❤
It always amazes me the way you guys walk in all the growth. I guess you don’t have a tick issue down there. If I did that up here in NY I’d be covered in ticks after a few steps. Love watching you and all you do.
What a blessing that 80 year old machine is to y'all. Thanks for the video about your peas. I have never had them.
Wow!! What a fabulous machine!!❤️🥰 serious time saver 😎. The baby chicks are adorable 🥰. Gus and Loretta will love Big Major Cay in the Bahamas for their anniversary trip someday 😁🥰❤️. Thank you for a wonderful video as always ❤️❤️
What a WONDERFUL FAMILY TREASURE you have! When YOU pass it on to Mary Carl , make SURE to add a jar of THIS year's peas too! Date a jar NOW, and set it aside. Give them BOTH @the same time!
Jason I looked up a pea sheller on Amazon and it was $862. It was the one that looked most like your granddaddys
WOW OH WOW!!!
Love the greatest generation❤. They were so creative and resourceful.
I love the Idea of putting Miss in front of those Chicks new names..... The names alone were kinda confusing. Love your Video's ..... =)

How do you cook those pink-eyed purple-hulled peas? Would it be like cooking black-eyed peas?
Same cooking method.
Yes, the same way as fresh black eye peas 👍👍

Your pea sheller is a treasure. Also your fingers aren't purple. 🤗👏👍 Take care 🥰
Or sore.. LOL
The shelling machine is something very special and a sentimental item. Just think of how young he was when he had it made. Eighty years...wow! Yes, a very special item to have and to pass down through generations. I know it gives you a lot of joy to use...and to know it came from a beloved family member. Quite ingenious for his time. I love those peas. I might try to plant them eventually.
I really enjoyed seeing your granddaddy's pea sheller. It goes to show you how things were made back then, made to last.
LOVED this video. Honestly, simply, feeding ourselves and our family is what it is all about.... Right?
And that my friends was another great, interesting and entertaining video. Ya all stay blessed.
Thank you so much and so glad you enjoyed it!!
