Never tried the R6 M2 but it looks like a little step up from the already amazing R6!
well don't buy, because the AF in low light is not worth a damnm even with flash, because I did an event with some dancing and I could not lock focus and yes there's so many modes, but still I was missing 95% of people's faces as they moved. Luckily I had my 5Diii along JUST in case this was to occur and thank God I did bring it, because it would have cost me work.
@@pal54321 Idk what the deal is with these system cameras but I also struggle with party pictures, they don't let me activate the AF laser beams from the flash or godox unit on the body to lock focus. I don't get why it is this way and why nobody says anything about this?
@@pal54321 That's interesting. From my albeit limited experience I think the R6II has the best low light AF for mirrorless cameras (or more accurately, 2nd best behind the Canon R3). The issue is that mirrorless cameras don't work with the red autofocus assist beam on flashes like DSLRs. Additonially, the AF assist light on mirrorless cameras is to obtrusive. DSLRs are still sort of king for extremely low light events with flash.
Fantastic content, mate! The Video-to-Photo switch is truly a game changer. Personally, I encountered difficulties with the R6's original Video switch, so having the custom functions reintroduced for video is a tremendous improvement. Keep up the great work!

Well done! Thanks for posting. For some years, I've not really thought about going mirrorless, as I'm perfectly happy with my 1DX Mk III, my 7D Mk II, and even my old 20D and 300D. However, having done a lot of research, a lot of reading, asking a lot of questions on the Canon forums, and watching plenty of reviews here, I'm almost positive I'm going to add an R6 Mk II to my camera bag, probably in the new year. Since nearly all of my lenses are decent-quality Canon EF/EF-S, I know I can use the EF > RF adapter without needing to invest in even more glass. Looking forward to the R6.2!
Great video, its definitely worth it if you're a hybrid shooter. As a wedding hybrid shooter myself, man oh man im glad I upgraded. Well maybe not upgrade since I still have the original R6 but I did get the R6 II. Being able to switch from photo to video and not having to worry about the time limit during ceremonies is wonderful. Just set the camera somewhere and forget it.

The R6II is a great hybrid camera. The photo/video switch and the top dial with the 3 custom modes for video and photo is a life saver. I prefer the extra dial on the top compared to the lcd screen on the top of the R5.

Thanks for this detailed informative video. Super helpful. I am in the process of upgrading from the original R, and also still shoot a lot of slide film. I am primarily a landscape and street photographer, but I do a lot of printing A3+ size on a Canon Pro 300 printer at home. If money is not an issue, and purely from an image quality perspective, would you recommend the R5 or R6 MKII? Cheers!

Yes, you should. It seems sharper to me. You get to jump ahead in technology while waiting for the R5 firmware update and R5 II.
Thank you for the review! I would wanna share this: I think we don’t need higher megapixels in order to print bill board sise images. It has to do with dpi/ppi. Back when there were cameras with 6 Mp and similar resolutions, they used to print images on bill boards without any issues.
I'm curious if you have any thoughts on this R6 M2 combined with the Atomos Ninja V+ because that seems to be a special combination with this exact camera.
You get 6K 60fps ProRes RAW
So for that specific resolution and codec it's slightly better than the R5. (the R5 can go up to 5K 60fps )
I often disregard the higher resolutions (8K etc) when they dont offer higher FPS in those resolutions - and often come with other crippling downsides)

I have been using an R6 for about a year now and it has been great! The biggest feature for me to justify an upgrade at this point would be the photo/video switch and custom video modes which would speed up workflow a lot when recording video as well as less worries about overheating. Other than that, I don’t mind the 20MP of the R6 - more than plenty for what I do and I rarely do large crops. I prefer the smaller file sizes for sure.
I’m with you on all of that! Never had a real issue with the 20mp files. But definitely using the R6 and R5 together for a while, honestly the biggest thing that makes me reach for the R5 most is just having the custom video modes and slightly better video options. New R6 fixes pretty much all of those unless 4k 120 is a real must for you!

I'm a Nikon D780 shooter from Sydney too, and shoot weddings and landscapes primarily.
The D780 auto focus isn't cutting it for weddings so I'm thinking about switching systems to this.
What would you suggest between this vs Sony A7IV vs Nikon Z8

Hi TNNORTH, I wanted to share my experience with the R6 Mark II camera that I recently purchased. Overall, I'm quite satisfied, but I've encountered a particular issue related to the LCD screen (Viewfinder seems to have no issue). When using the LCD to compose my shots, I've noticed a significant lag in the shutter response. For instance, when my son starts to smile and I press the shutter button, I expect the camera to capture the moment he smiles. Unfortunately, there seems to be a delay, and it ends up capturing the moment after he smiles, which could be less than half a second later. Similarly, when I try to capture the precise moment when someone's eyes open, the camera tends to capture moments when their eyes are closed. As a result, we've ended up with many photos like this when using the LCD screen. Interestingly, we didn't experience any similar issues with our Canon RP camera. This has led me to wonder if there might be a problem with my R6 Mark II, as I'm concerned about the possibility of receiving a defective unit. I was wondering if you have any insights into what might be causing this issue. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Franky, mine does this - it is the IBIS mechanism, nothing to worry about.
I’ve been loving it. My R5 is still my goto but man the R6ii is a great value.

Shooting huge billboards doesn't require huge Megapixel count..... unless you want to view them at a few metres. Most Billboards were shot at less than 24Mp
I ended up getting the R6MKII because they discontinued the R6 in Canada… or else I would have just gotten the R6
In Australia the r6ii is $1500 more than the r7. As a landscape photographer where video and AF are not too important to me…. Is the r6ii worth the extra $1500?
That depends a lot on whether you want a full frame camera. The R8 is much more comparable to the R6II as they are both full frame cameras. Have you checked out the R8 at all? Going full frame potentially just gives you more lens options and ability to upgrade lenses more down the line.
@@TKNORTH I guess it’s hard to say you want a full frame without having had one. Assuming the picture quality is higher then yeah a full frame is alluring. The r8’s lack of weather sealing concerns me given I do landscapes. I have considered a second hand eos R and an r6 as cheaper alternatives to the r6ii, but then the r7 seems decent still..
A cropped sensor can be perfectly fine if you're mostly shooting landscapes. But it might come down more to the lens choices. If you ever wish to upgrade cameras in the future, sticking to full-frame would be good, as you can continue to use the same lenses as the same focal lengths. This will depend what lenses you own or wish to purchase also.
There should be a few secondhand R6's around in good condition with the the release of the MII, so that could definitely be a nice option.
In Canon's camera lineup has both the Canon R6 and Canon R6 Mark 2 replaced the Canon 5D Mark 4
The R5 is more in line with the old 5D cameras. R6 would technically be targeted at what the 6D was 👍🏼

The improved auto focus actually is significant for me. The AF on the original R6, while good, does lose the subject a lot in my experience, even with minor movement.
