I make a mistake mixing up the R8 and R7. R7 does have IBIS. Sorry for the confusion! Thank you for all the great responses. This channel is for all of us to share and discuss our cameras, gear, and challenges we face!!
I had a very similar experience with the R6M2. I brought it home with the 24 to 105 4.0, started shooting images around the house. Not quite as high ISO as you were shooting, but I was very happy with the images straight out of camera. I like this camera very much.
I went out today to the lake and shot all four Canon cameras the R5 r62 R7 and R8 and I'm going to throw some side-by-side comparisons up in the next week or two. It definitely is impressive. Photography has some amazing new stuff coming out in the next year or so as well. I got a lot of really neat videos coming out where I want to get in-depth into some of this stuff that's in the near future.
I loved the R5. I got the r6mii to replace my backup (R was bad/incomplete product). R6MII is awesome in low light focus is better than the R5. Using the r6mii more now for my field trips.
Just bought this camera for astrophotography and one of the main thing i was looking for when i shop for a camera was low noise at high iso and i am really satisfied with it.
You can triple back button focus the r6mii. Sometimes I actually prefer that setup to the standard focus setup. It doesn't always like to hit the right target in groups of people.
95% of the time, she has the RF 100-400. We shoot TONS of wildlife. We actually just found a place in North Carolina called Jordan Lake Dam, where there's close to 30 Eagles. 7 of them being juveniles!! But the lens and camera itself are very light and she loves that.
@@photobeast I still used a 1dx a 13 year old camera. I can easily use 12,800 and still get usable images such as what's shown here . Software is what's made the biggest changes
I have the R6 ii. Best camera I’ve ever had, the image quality is just beautiful. I do mostly stills, very little video. I shoot 99% wildlife with the RF 100-500. I don’t know what Canon do but the image quality in the eyes just blows me away every time. The clarity, sharpness and brightness in the animals eyes is superb. Going onto ISO, if you haven’t seen this ISO chart before go take a look on Google at ‘read noise in DN versus ISO settings’ once you’re on that page you will see a list of cameras on the right side. There’s loads of cameras listed. Click on your own camera and it will show you a noise graph. It shows in the R6 ii that the difference between ISO 400 and ISO 1000 is virtually nothing. So in other words you can increase your shutter speed and take crisper sharper shots with the increased shutter speed but your eye just won’t see any difference in ISO if you were using ISO 400.
I heard the r6 ii has pretty good noise control even at isos above 6400. Since I've started out, I had just a simple x100v but now looking into getting a proper body. After realising I shoot mainly in low light a lot (events/night) I reckon I will pick this one up. The fuji is great but even that struggles around iso 6400 on noise, plus the low light aint as great. Its been my go getter for street and small events during the day.
Sounds like you have fantastic photo locations locally. I've updated from the R6 to the R6 Mark ll. Really enjoying the extra software / firmware benefits of the Mark II.😊
I can honestly say I am LOVING this camera. Apart from Wildlife I shoot weddings here and there in bands just about every other weekend whether it's a small video shoot or just getting them some promotional pictures. And of course it is very low light a lot of times. So my R5 was my main camera to do live music. I took the R6 to out this last weekend and my keeper rate was about 98%!! I am very impressed and then I've been using it daily with wildlife. I shoot something everyday!! Hahaaa
I'm R6 II user - I was thinking about getting a R7 & RF-S lenses for a light travel kit, & to give me a little extra reach with my full frame lenses. But after what I've been reading here ... I don't think so! I'll carry the extra size and weight with my R6 II gear - it's never let me down.
I went to the lake today with my wife, and the R7 was the only camera out of the R5, R6 Mark II, R7, and R8 that underperformed. The only good thing about the R7 is when I had the 800 mm on it, I actually got some decent shots from far away. But the R5 stole the show today. R6 Mark II was not far behind on image quality but outperformed the R5 in autofocus as far as speed when it came to finding and locking on the subjects. The lake I went to had probably close to 1000 birds flying around. So it was really neat to see all of them in action at the same time. When I got home and uploaded all the images, the R7 had so many out of focus images compared to every other camera. I have tried just about every configuration in the settings as well.
Man I was nodding my head throughout your video. I love my R5 and bought a R7 and it sucks. Well some a hole stole my camera out of my truck with the 24-70 RF lens. So I’m considering buying the R6 mk2 until I could buy the R5 mk2. Great info!
@@mmckee8iiz I love the R6II. I got mine for $1200 from a guy I did some light video work for that owns an Amazon resale store. I did some social media commercials for him. Soon as he got the camera he called me. I offered him $1,200 and he took it. He probably got it for pennies anyways. I really wanted to get the R5 Mark II and I'm making a video on that right now. Every time I went to get it something came up. It's a crazy story. It's funny but it's pretty crazy.. definitely check out that video it should be posted in a few days I just finished my Metallica video. Pictures nobody's ever seen before. Yeah but long story short, I bought a second original R5 yesterday! $1900 for a Mint with less than 12000 Shots.. Mine personally has close to 1 million ans still going. I had a few reasons like money and also there are a few things I like beeter about the OG R5.. if you get a chance definitely check out that video. I should have it posted by Monday. And lasley's most importantly that really sucks that somebody did that to you man. I play bass and somebody stole my prized bass out of my car one time and I still think about it.. I cant stand a theif..I hope things work out for you brother..
Thanks for the video. I'm deciding whether to buy an R6 MKii or an R5 now that they are similarly priced. I'll be taking short videos (instagram style, under 1 minute) as well as photos. My biggest concern is overheating, particularly with video in 4K 60fps, as I'll be in very hot and humid climates (jungle, safari...). Could you please advise on which of the two is likely to be most reliable? My understanding is that the R5 can get dangerously hot but will continue to operate thanks to the firmware 1.6 update, while the R6 MKii probably has the better hardware for managing heat but will automatically turn itself off sooner as you can't adjust auto turn off in the menu like with the R5?
I personally prefer the R5. The only advice I can give you is which photography genre you prefer. I shoot multiple genres. I do portrait work a lot. But then again I also love wildlife. For wildlife I love the controllability and the extra megapixels on the Canon r5. I just feel like as far as a camera goes it's a workhorse. I also like the fact I can shoot 120 frames a second in 4k. Now the R6 Mark II is an amazing camera. Some days I'll put that on the 500 mm and go out and shoot. Absolutely love that camera as well but I feel like it's the little brother to the R5. Some will say the autofocus is superior on the R6 Mark II. I agree to disagree. I believe it's all the way you set it up. I personally set my camera up most of the time shooting in manual with auto ISO capped off at 12,800. Use my back or 3rd wheel for exposure comp. This allows me to also make the ISO lower as well as not blow out highlights. Then there's the fact that when you go into your customization settings you can set the buttons up anyway you want. With the R6 Mark II to go into video mode you have to turn a physical dial on the top of the camera which I find to be very very annoying. When I'm in the field with my R5 I can keep my eye on the viewfinder and set my red record button for 120 frames a second b-roll and set my multifunction button 424 frames a second. So basically I could shoot pictures and video without ever taking my eye off the viewfinder and I find that to be better than every time I want to go from pictures to video having to move my head back or feel around for a button. In the military when you line up a Target you never want to take your eye off the scope. Were the radical in the scope for that matter because you might lose your target. So to keep good Target acquisition that's how you are trained. So because of the customizations and the extra megapixels I would definitely recommend the original R5 I just got a body with less than 12,000 shots on it, a cage and 5 batteries, all for only $1900!!! Good luck my friend
I used to have both the R5 and R8, the R5 for wildlife and macro, the R8 for family stuff. I sold the R5 last fall in anticipation of the R5II and bought an R7 to tide me over. When it focuses properly, the results are great, but hit rates are very low. The R8 runs circles around the R7 when it comes to AF. But the pixels-per-dragonfly are hard to beat! When I get my R5II I’ll sell the R7 without a shred of remorse :)
@@KoenKooi I totally agree. It's been raining here in North Carolina for the last 2 months so I haven't really been out to go birding. I was going through my pictures from earlier this year and kept seeing burst runs of sometimes between 20 to 60 shots of birds and flight that I took. And the majority of them were out of focus. I went up to the metadata to see what camera it was and of course every one of the burst shots that had the majority out of focus was the R7. It's just sad because it's a fun camera to use. I really wanted to love it. I'm looking forward to the R6II as well but supplies are looking to be short from what I'm reading. The RF200-800 is just now getting out after a year of back orders. Hope this won't be the same with the R5II
Is it because of Sigma glass with the R7? I have run across yt videos talking about how you have to firmware update the sigma lenses to be fully compatible with the R7.
No, I did try the Sigma out on the R7 after I put it on the R5 and had really good results on that camera. I had to adjust some settings over the course of a week to get it to work without crazy focus breathing, of course. But I used the EF100-400, RF800 f11, RF100-400, and the RF 100-500MM.. ALL with very similar issues. It seems that when you lock on a subject and take multiple shots. You get a few of the subjects a few behind the subject and then a few in front of the subject. The issue is that it focuses off the focal plane. With the Sigma Contemporary 150-600mm, you do get random focus breathing here and there. But that's to be expected. The R7 has an issue that has been verified from Canon themselves. They never fixed it or offered a resolution, just going to repackage it as the Mark 2 and then we'll have to purchase another one.
Bought the r7 just to get into the system. At first was very disappointed with it. Low hit rate and noisy files. But after a lot of research I found that by shooting C raw, with first curtain shutter and limiting to 15 fps my hit rate went up a lot. Evidently AF can’t keep up with high frame rates. I also use single point when the background is busy which throws off the eye auto focus. One would think these issues shouldn’t have existed on a modern camera. Let’s hope the mk2 version solves these problems.
Look on Ebay, they are about $50 and will take about 2 weeks to get. But, just follow thew video and take your time, In less than 30 minutes it'll be like new!
Excellent video. Like you , I love my r5 needed a second camera and initially decided on the r7. Very disappointed. Returned it and traded up for the r6 mk2. All I can is WOW! Amazing AF. Better ( in my opinion) than the r5 ( which is very good). I shoot a lot of sports and the r6 mk2 is my primary camera for action.
@@photobeastI started to have misgivings about the AF in my R7 that I use for motorsport despite trying every combination of AF and shutter settings available. I bought an R6ii and all my misgivings about the R7 were confirmed. The R7 gives the extra “reach” of an aps-c, but that doesn’t help when so many shots have been missed. I’ve now sold the R7 and am pondering on whether to buy an R5, an R5ii, or a Nikon Z8 trying to balance price/specification/performance.
I agree the reach is great but 80 shots and sometimes 75 of them are out of focus. Never happens on the R5 or R6II. or even the R8 my wife stole from me.. @@PaulWhite-zn9xx
I had the R6 mark 2 last year for about a week until it threw an error 70 code and it stopped working. I promptly returned it back to cannon and spent the extra $1,000 and had them send me a new R5. Coming from my 90D I love lots of megapixels And I also instantly fell in love but there are a number of featuress I do miss dearly on the R6 mkii, I'm finally done getting all my EF Trinity lenses to RF so the r6 mkii will be mine again soon!! Haha! Really cool video man, you seem like real good people.
It's funny you said that I actually got that same error 70 on my R5 last year. It ended up being the adapter. I wasn't getting proper connection with all the pins. At that point in time I took my electronic screwdriver set and tightened up everything on the front of the R5 as well as the adapter and that's when I found out the adapter wasn't working properly. It was the third party adapter from Neewer. I had one of those the original one from Canon and one from a company called Meike with the ND filter. But yeah I totally understand what you mean, the R6 is feature rich!! I did a few other videos on settings that will make your R5 close to the R6. You can actually shoot portraits and then go to b-roll video and then go to regular 24 frames per second video and then go back to shooting portraits. As well as changing different focusing settings all without taking your eye off the viewfinder. If that helps. I do a lot of wildlife So the faster my camera is set up for me for personalization the more and. better images I get.. You will definitely LOVE the extra pixels when editing with the R5 though.. It's an Amazing camera.
I actually have my R5 set up exactly the same way as you do. I was smiling ear to ear when you were explaining your back button layout. I was a little proud of myself. I also have my video C3 set to 4K120fps so I can just hit the record button while I'm still in photo mode and get nice smooth slow mow. That was also cool how you mentioned the 90D. My wife loves it and won't let me sell it, It's currently paired with my last EF L-Series lens the 16-35 mkii. It is an impressive camera but it's got that stupid mirror in it! Haha
I too have the R5, R6 and the R7, while my R5 is my main go to camera body, I have not experienced any focus issues with my R7. Maybe it was fixed with a firmware update
I can actually see the R7's flaws from using the R6 MKii which has noticeably less rolling shutter in regard to backgrounds. It's not a deal breaker on the R7 for BiF if the background is plain.
Thank you so much for the kind words I really appreciate it. Some of these videos take forever riding the script and filming. Then the editing process. I'm still stuck in the UA-cam algorithm hell and hopefully sooner than later will get monetized. I really appreciate that
I tried the new firmware. It's only during burst shots. Also, using the Canon Connect app does the firmware updates for you through the app now. It's the coolest thing. Also, when you transfer your raw files to your phone, it denoises the image when it converts to a JPEG as well as adds beautiful color!! But I'll check what version. 💯percent sure it's the newest. I use the cameras daily with the app.
@@photobeast So what you're saying is the front- and back- focusing that you were seeing was not with burst shots, and is still happening on the latest firmware? OK, good to know. The Canon Connect app works really well when it only needs bluetooth connection with my phone (a Pixel 8 Pro), but it is super-duper flaky when it needs to use a WiFi connection (for example, when updating the firmware or downloading photos to the phone). The WiFi connection is slow (much faster to download by ejecting the card and using even a UHS-i reader), and the Canon Connect firmware update only seems to update the camera firmware, and does not update the Lens firmware. (BTW, if there were some Lens firmware updates that improves the lens IS interop with the camera's IBIS for those older RF lenses that were released before the R5/R6 when IBIS was introduced for RF cameras, such as the RF 24-105 f/4.) So these days I just drop the firmware on the SD card; it's faster and works with lens firmware updates.
@@photobeast So if the focus issues are only happening during burst shots, I just recently came across this video: ua-cam.com/video/hsmY4f1J0t8/v-deo.html by Duade Paton. Apparently there seems to be an inherent limitation with the R7 body when shooting at high burst rates using electronic shutter in low-contrast/low-light conditions; this has been confirmed by Canon. Duade''s theory is that it's related to the slower readout rate of the R7 sensor as compared to the R5 sensor. Using Electronic First Curtain Shutter (EFCS) at 6.5 fps works even in low-contrast situations; EFCS at 15 fps with good light is fine. However if you have a flighty subject, using electronic shutter at 15 fps (but not 30 fps) in good light seems to be OK. But in low-light conditions, electronic shutter even at 15 fps is going to have a lower hit rate. Other workarounds include using one-shot mode if the subject isn't moving. This issue seems to happen only in (a) electronic shutter, (b) low-contrast/low-light, and (c) with AF in tracking mode.
I have been using the R7 for about a year and I was disappointed in how long it took to lock on a flying bird, if at all. 7D mkii with 100-400 locks on right away. I will say the image quality with the R7 100-500 superior to D7 once it locks on. I am sort of waiting to see if the problems are fixed in the R7 MK ii before buying R6 Mk ii or R5 or maybe the R5 Mk ll. Anyway, first time I have seen your video, really enjoyed it and I subscribed.
@@KevinF235 thank you for the sub. When it came to dslrs the 7D Mark II back then, I felt was amazing.. The Mirrorless autofocus and the electronic viewfinder really make it so much easier today. But, the amount of shits that I miss with this camera. It just kills me at times. I stopped taking it out with me and only take my R5 and R6II. Neither never let me down.
That's a hard one. The autofocus is definitely better on the R6II and more refined. But the R5s autofocus is no slouch. It definitely gets the job done. And after all these years is better than cameras like the R7. I really have no complaints on it. I can also customize the R5 better. I set up my buttons so I never have to take my eye off the viewfinder. The R6II does not allow it nor does the R5II. BUT.. If I had to pick ONE, it would be the R5. It's funny you just asked, because I bought a second R5 this week off of eBay with about 15,000 shutter actuations for $1900!! I couldn't turn it down. It's to great of a camera. I also got a cage, 5 batteries, ef to RF adapter and a few other treats included. It's crazy they are so cheap now if you shop around.
Ah dang, was about to just sell my R5 since I bought the R5c, I already have an R6mii.....but was going to keep the R5 as extra photo camera / video angle ...to replace my canon R as that. What do you think? Keep the R and keep maxing it out or keep the R5. @@photobeast
I bought the R7 for Dog's in action... The hitrate was 4-8 out of 15 with the RF 70-200 f.4. Not the best hitrate.... And I won't recommend it for action. But for portraits and Studio its a beast and the hitrate is up over 95%. Most of my work is city and landscape and most admit it's a wonderful camera for that kind of photography. Selling big prints the only option next is the R5. I can't go down in megapixels with the R6 II. Wish you all the best with your channel.
I went to shoot birds in flight today as the American White Pelicans were at a Dam about an hour away. I wanted to shoot all 4 cameras back to back for the first time. The R5, R6II, R7, and R8. I always shoot one or two a trip. After 8 hours and thousands of shots later, it's still the same conclusion with the R7. The hitrate was terrible, and the other cameras ALL did very well!! I really feel Canon should step up and resolve this.
@@photobeast I have the same experience with the R7.... There's something wrong with the focus. The L lens helped a bit... And sitting on the ground resting the camera on my lap helped too. But not enough. At lower shutterspeed there's no problem... anyway I won't replace it before I can afford the R5. Hope you've got some good shoot's
@pouleriktolderlund2016 you too. It's still usable. Just loss of images from time to time. Some days are definitely better than others, my friend. But good luck this year! I hope you capture some amazing stuff!
My favorite thing to do is shoot at night, i want that R8 for the R6IIs lowlight performance and and colors, i have a T7 so im already used to not having IBIS lol but IMO the images may not be as sharp as your R5 but i think they will be much better than my dslr with its digic 4+ processor even though i use L glass, i will probably keep the dslr for panning shots for the race track though since the R8 has only an electronic first curtain shutter, but at the current price the R8 is reachable for me with the pay every two week option, i wish i could say the same for the R611 so i could have the IBIS, you said the R7 don't esnt have IBIS though and i believe it does, i just haven't heard much more than bad things about it's overall performance which is why i want the R8 instead
I agree. Try to keep an eye on the used market as well as refurbs on places like Amazon. I actually got my R6II for $1200. A client of mine owns 5 Amazon resale stores. I've done a few commercials for him so when he gets items in, he calls me first. Then gives me the BEST deal possible. That's something to try as well. You can hit up local restaurants or small stores and shoot like a 15-second b-roll commercial and then in my case I use AI to write a script that's relevant to their scenario... Then you get perks as you'll make friends!!
R5 is for the upper-middle class Emmyleigh types whose Dentist daddy bought her very first camera based off nothing but pixel count and price tag. She will take 34 shots before advertising as a wedding photographer and never taking her R5 out of full auto settings (she uses a purchased adobe preset with BLOWN TF out highlights on everything she shoots). R6mkII is for the amatuer going pro who actually knows what theyre doing and bought a camera for its features.
I’ve had a R6 ii for 8 months. The relationship is love/hate. I use adapted EF glass. The ef 70-200 ii is perfect on it. The ef 100-400 ii seems erratic. When it’s sharp it’s amazing, but it seems only about 60% of the images are critically sharp. It’s behaving as if it’s a R7… driving me nuts. 😒 I’ve tried everything, watched hours of videos.
I had that lens and just sold it about 3 weeks ago. I didn't have a chance to use it on the R62. But I did have similar issues with THE Sigma 150-600. On my R5 I had nothing but breathing issues so I use a custom one when I do my portrait lenses slower shutter speeds things like that. I use custom 2 for wildlife where everything is a bit faster, I'll use manual with auto iso. I also will go into my autofocus numbers and play around because I've noticed sometimes certain lenses act differently like you were saying. The only thing I can think of is try to change some of the sticky settings in your autofocus. So it sticks to the subject a little better. And leave it in a custom mode so when you use that lens you can just throw it over to that mode and be ready to roll. Me personally I do weddings and live music on the weekends. So I have my C1 setup for that and then I have C2 set up exclusively for wildlife. With everything pretty much flip flopped. You'll get it!! Just a little trial and error!!
I am with you esp. with the language you're using , R7 AF is crap n almost always never locked on to the objects , i will never recommend it to anyone. Changed my R8 to R7 to get an extra reach but was a big mistake, with R7 i get extra reach YES but also i get a lot of crap soft images too.
I was just going through my pictures for the last 6 months. The last probably 3 months I've been using the R6 Mark 2 and the R5 exclusively at events etc. But, I looked back to months like January - March and was just shocked at the bursts of shots of things like eagles that were just out of focus. It's not a good look for that camera as a Wildlife camera. Maybe, like come have said, it's better for macro and single shot portraits. It's just not the best on focusing action. Especially, Birds in Flight..
6D was one of my first DSLRs. Mirrorless is a whole new world. My favorite part is the customizations we can do for faster target acquisition. Especially birds in flight.
I love my R7. It is a specialist camera. It is a $1500 32mpx 1.6x teleconverter. For birds etc where you want reach. I think it is stupid to judge it for shooting portraits in the dark. Get a R6 for that
@@GerhardBothaWFF I personally have never used my Canon R7 for portraits. I use my R5 and R6 Mark II for that. The only time I use the R7 was for chasing Wildlife such as eagles, owls, and all the variety of small birds in my yard. As I am surrounded by 1200 Acres of tree farms. I can have between 40 to 60 different bird species in my yard at any given time. This allows me lots of practice. But for instance today the R7 which I dusted off and pulled back out has done nothing but let me down shot after shot because of the rather slow autofocus. I don't know at the end of the day I paid $1,200 for my R6 Mark II which I got a rather great deal on as well as 1900 for my second R5 when this camera comes in just under the amount of the other two I just don't see it happening for me. And I don't know if you watch the full video I have tried all the tricks like changing autofocus settings using H instead of H+ and not using electronic shutter but rather using electronic first curtain. And even still the autofocus has issues as it always has. I'm running the latest firmware. But stacked up to every other camera including the R8 which is in the same price. It tends to lose a lot of shots compared to the others. I really want to love this camera because it's small compact and fun to use.
I'm using the R6 Mark II more than the R5 these days. Even the cropping looks good. One of my best friends is very well known at Myrtle Beach South Carolina for doing Landscapes and he uses the original R6 and has the most beautiful pictures on social media at 20 megapixels. He convinced me THE R6 gets the job done even in Wildlife. So I got the R6II and love it. The R7 is a mess for Wildlife.. I'm taking shots of eagles in perfect lighting at perfect distances and out of 100 pictures 80 of them will be out of focus! I can't take it anymore. Mom sitting on the shelf. I'm going to sell it. I don't know if I want to sell my R5 and get the R5 Mark II yet or just wait and get the R7 Mark II. After dealing with this camera I don't know
@@photobeast I didnt know r7 and r5 were getting mII versions lol. I like that the r7 is a crop sensor it gets me closer to my wildlofe subjects but Im so done having to zoom out and back in trying to get the camera to find the bird even with a beast like 100-500 on it. I tried many settings and nothing seems to work. I had a lot of freezing issues also. It wouldnt wake up until I take out the battery and put back in. I shouldnt be wasting time doing that when a friend next to me is shooting many shots of a bearded vulture on top of a mountain, that I have always wanted to photograph...
@@FatosYox They both should be out this year. I do miss that crop. But, I don't trust it on days where I might drive 3 hours to see something special and miss the shot. There is a few tricks for getting the focus to work better and they help. But it still let's me down.
In my opinion the autofocus on the R7 is broken. Canon should either: 1) Refund people with the R7. 2) Fix the camera free of charge. 3) Replace it with the R7 II for free.
Agreed. I went out shooting birds at a local dam today, and once again, it failed me all day. I don't know. I'm about to just sell this thing. It's frustrating, and they know it's not working right. But, have done nothing to fix the issue.
I had an R7 and ended up selling it. Not because it didn't take great pictures but the lack of 3rd party glass. Definitely not great in low light and I had the same focus issues. But it does have in body stabilisation.
Yeah I realize that after I posted the video I was thinking about the R8. Working with four and five different cameras make sure forget some stuff sometimes
@@photobeast it may be a few weeks away as I have fallen ill and my voice is not good enough. But hope to arrange it in the mean time. But you will enjoy it as its fun to get a group of people together
You are CORRECT! I'm terrible with names and great with faces...lol Thanks for the correction! I watch him daily. He's one of the channels I really love.
Technically, it wasn't that Canon couldn't help, it it was that they were backed up for about 5 months before I would have gotten it returned. I could not go that long without that camera. It was my main body and actually only body at the time. I had sold my backup body to get my wife a new camera just a few weeks earlier. So, I had it set aside. I found it ridiculous that a piece of 1 inch plastic costs so much. I ordered the part and researched the where the screws were located and went to work. It was really easy too. I made a video to hopefully help someone with the same issues. And it has. I got alot of great responses. 👍. Have a good one my friend
Look forward to it!
I loved the R5. I got the r6mii to replace my backup (R was bad/incomplete product). R6MII is awesome in low light focus is better than the R5. Using the r6mii more now for my field trips.
I totally agree. I hate to admit IT, but these last few weeks I find MYSELF that if I'm taking one camera with me, it's the R6II.
Just bought this camera for astrophotography and one of the main thing i was looking for when i shop for a camera was low noise at high iso and i am really satisfied with it.
It's crazy how good this is! I was impressed with the R5 but this.. definitely next level impressive!!
As R6 shooter i constantly use 25k ISO with no problem in most cases. One of the reasons why not using R5.
It's amazing that we are here in a place in photography to achieve this! Just a few short years ago, ISO 3200 would be nerve-wracking.
Hahaaa
Great video, and to expand the functionality of the camera, I use the Tornado EOS program
I have never heard of that! I'll definitely check it out. Thanks
It's really not much bigger and the always reliable!!
Also have an R5, and came across a steal on a nib R7. to say I'm disappointed in that camera is an understatement
Nice. I think part of the focus problem is sensor readout speed. The R5 sensor reads 2x faster than the R7. 15 VS 30ms.
Ditched my R7 after I had focus issues while the r7 used price was still hot..
Great tips. Thank you!
A bad dancer's legs are in the way. You can shoot great on the R7 and it focuses well, especially on the latest firmware.
Is there a setting where I can choose a lower megapixel or is it always on 45 megapixel?
@@mase202 No, it's always there.
@@photobeast I ended up selling my R7 n i got R6 M II instead, light years ahead of R7.
That's exactly what I do.. it really helps!
Love your work, Sir.
one question pls - where you got your new CFExpress card door for yor R5 from? mine is broken too.
Look on Ebay, they are about $50 and will take about 2 weeks to get. But, just follow thew video and take your time, In less than 30 minutes it'll be like new!
@@photobeast thank you, sir
Excellent video. Like you , I love my r5 needed a second camera and initially decided on the r7. Very disappointed. Returned it and traded up for the r6 mk2. All I can is WOW! Amazing AF. Better ( in my opinion) than the r5 ( which is very good). I shoot a lot of sports and the r6 mk2 is my primary camera for action.
I agree. The R6II has me feeling spoiled. My next move is selling the R7 in the near future.
I only ever had issues when I was shooting first shots especially with electronic shutter. Going to electronic first curtain really helped the issue
I can actually see the R7's flaws from using the R6 MKii which has noticeably less rolling shutter in regard to backgrounds. It's not a deal breaker on the R7 for BiF if the background is plain.
Nice video, thanks for talking up the r6 mark II, I was trying to hold out for the r5 mark II, but maybe I don’t need to. Subscribed.
Excellente video. You are a great storyteller
Thank you so much for the kind words I really appreciate it. Some of these videos take forever riding the script and filming. Then the editing process. I'm still stuck in the UA-cam algorithm hell and hopefully sooner than later will get monetized. I really appreciate that
What firmware version did you have on the R7? There is a firmware update which Canon claims addresses focusing issues.
6:10 R7 does have IBIS
Yes, it does. Was thinking of the R8 when I said that!
Canon family ❤
I love Canon!! I can't wait to try the new R5II!!
Thanks, I will do a little research and change soon. It is price vs value. I am not a pro, but damn do I love wildlife photography.
Been trying to decide between r5/ r6ii. If you had run into a burning building to save one of these cameras lives, which one would it be ? Subscribed.
I shit myself every time you slapped that poor R5.... ( I subbed lol )
Hahaha, she's a tough little camera.. thanks brother!! 😆
I just subscribed so glad I found your channel 👍🏾
Thanks a lot, my friend.. I appreciate that!.. I got so much to get out this year. It's going to be a fun one. I really appreciate the support
awesome, informative, real-life review vdo .. thnk you!
Glad you liked it. Thank you so much
R5 is for the upper-middle class Emmyleigh types whose Dentist daddy bought her very first camera based off nothing but pixel count and price tag.
Just subscribed.
@@KancelKulturePodcast thanks so much! Trying to get to that first thousand
I replaced my 6D with the R8. I like it.
It's a great camera. What lens are you using?
I agree on the "shit auto focus on R7". it failedme so many times already Im now considering getting an r5 or a r6mII
Canon should either:
1) Refund people with the R7.
What lenses does your wife use on the R8?
Mostly the RF100-400 for wildlife. She hates heavy lenses. The Sigma 150-600 was too heavy as was the EF100-400.
I had an R7 and ended up selling it. Not because it didn't take great pictures but the lack of 3rd party glass. Definitely not great in low light and I had the same focus issues. But it does have in body stabilisation.
Yeah I realize that after I posted the video I was thinking about the R8. Working with four and five different cameras make sure forget some stuff sometimes
hi would you like to join me and my panel on one of my livestreams ?
@@photobeast it may be a few weeks away as I have fallen ill and my voice is not good enough. But hope to arrange it in the mean time. But you will enjoy it as its fun to get a group of people together
Duade Patton, not "Duane".
You are CORRECT! I'm terrible with names and great with faces...lol Thanks for the correction! I watch him daily. He's one of the channels I really love.
Duade Paton, not Patton.
Why couldn't Canon fix your R5? Grey market? Canon charged more?
