My favorite podcast. Period. I'm so glad that people can have these conversations, openly, and now have an audience. All these discussions, with humor especially, are important to keep in this ever-changing world. Stayin' Jaded in these streets.
Honestly Killer Mike appeared on too many talk shows, the Joe Rogan episodes, and Bill Maher episodes, for me to take him seriously as an activist and it reminds me a bit of Bernie Sanders. Bernie Sanders is the best liberal we have rn but at the end of the day he and Killer Mike are just edgy Liberals. Maybe Killer Mike says edgier shit but he perpetuates the system he criticizes, and Bernie fails to bring real change because of how polite he is to other politicians and unwillingness to beat the right at corroding the system but in our favor. Like that's why I don't think there can ever be elected officials who can actually be leftist bc Leftism will never be able to survive in the current institutional framework, and we need new institutions. Like making the US progressive, it is like using a clothing iron to make toast. Like sure you can make toast and probably cook other food with it, but it's not what its function is. And it's the same with liberal capitalist democracy. Like the institutions, meaning the legal designs and the values put inside the constitution need to change. If our new framework was created by the previously oppressed classes, black and brown folk, asians, latines, indigenous people, queer folk, prisoners, disabled people, Jewish and Muslim people, and the working class, then the new institutions that are created will take into account the previous white supremacist and patriarchal hierarchies. We'll be in the step for a fairer and just society. We need to replace liberal capitalist democracies with intersectional communism. I understand that's not a real term, but Angela Davis's writings on intersectionality and prison abolition are integral updates to Marxist theory. Marxist theory is a breathing and evolving theory, even Marx himself stated multiple times that different interpretations and practices must be used by different nations who have unique histories, and that even his teachings cannot be applicable 100% everywhere, and that's why it's important to look to American Marxists whose writings have added much depth and perspective towards socialist theory, which will eventually be used in praxis.
