Now that the government operates it they now want higher fares and higher taxes and would not approve fare increases for the private companies. So now that they are in control we pay higher fares as well as higher taxes with only minimal improvements in service at high cost. How about how much that Second street subway expansion costs to build or any other proposed transit expansion project?

Government needs to work harder at constraints on cost overruns but that means keeping the unions in check which is unpopular to the pro union crowd.

However, they stuck with it, and I can honestly say it’s been the best thing we’ve ever implemented in London, despite how unpopular it was at first. Less traffic, cleaner air, and more money for public transport. Like the smoking ban, people hated it at first, but imagine someone smoking in a restaurant now. Now with all the extra investiment Transport for London, I sold my car 3 years ago, and can honestly say it's saved me loads more in the long run.

The state, city and MTA have to learn that the business or residents and visitors are not a bottomless source of tax money. At some point soon they will find out people can live without New York City or State. Yes good public transit is good and necessary but they must find a way to do things at less cost or risk loosing both population and tourist visitation. The neighborhood businesses will be the first to go as their expenses will drive people to not go out to eat at restaurant’s or shop at speciality stores due to their high cost of living. If taxes are too high people will choose to go to New Jersey or Pennsylvania for their dining or entertainment and may choose to move there.
NYC and America have old infrastructure. They need money, Look at China! They should have used the money being sent overseas like to Ukraine and Isreal. Spend that money here, and we don't need congestion pricing!

Someone said the other day that congestion toll shoukd bring more foot traffic in the city so business should be able to do better... that was just the other day and that comment didnt age well.
Just make everyone walk and use horses like the old days.

The state, city and MTA have to learn that the business or residents and visitors are not a bottomless source of tax money. At some point soon they will find out people can live without New York City or State. Yes good public transit is good and necessary but they must find a way to do things at less cost or risk loosing both population and tourist visitation. The neighborhood businesses will be the first to go as their expenses will drive people to not go out to eat at restaurant’s or shop at speciality stores due to their high cost of living. If taxes are too high people will choose to go to New Jersey or Pennsylvania for their dining or entertainment and may choose to move there.

NYC and America have old infrastructure. They need money, Look at China! They should have used the money being sent overseas like to Ukraine and Isreal. Spend that money here, and we don't need congestion pricing!

The city is going to find itself a desert because all of these small businesses are going to close their doors and leave as they continue to tax them out of existence. The rest of the state of New York should not have to bail out the MTA because their inept in operating their business.
But it would mean that larger businesses would have room to gentrify the neighborhoods that small businesses abandon and treat New York like it were their playground.
