    One really impoortant thing to add: If you wear a safety toe as part of sawyer gear, know that a steel toe stops a chainsaw blade completely, whereas it dives into a comp toe faster than some woods. I've seen demos of chainsaws on comp toes, and they don't even slow down. But for impact, yes, go comp toe.

    As an electrician I’ve always been a comp toe kinda person I’m also really work of my work environment and minimize or eliminate the possibility of something really heavy falling on my feet. Even still comp toe every time I’m working.

    I have notice with steel toes I have to get wider to an “EE” when I usually wear and “D” width boot. I am yet to try a composite toe.

    I’d choose composite, friend of mine steel worker had metal fall on his foot, they had to remove all toes because the steel crushed & stayed, Dr said maybe could’ve kept some toes had the safety toe been composite, idk but my friends boots are composite toe now, just one boot tho

    • @SilverOilman
      @SilverOilman Рік тому +10

      Your friend is a statistical anomaly. The amount of force necessary for that would pulverize the bones of the foot enough that they would probably remove the entire thing. An ASTM rated steel toe can resist 6000 pounds of force.

    I would like to see a close up of cutaways of boots with steel, composite and celastic toes to get a better visual of the room and shape and edges inside the boot compared to a soft toe. Also steel toes are magnetic and someone can weld your boot to something if the leather is worn through.

    I've always worn steel toed logger Vibergs every single pair I've owned in the last 20 plus years is toe rub, the leather lining around the steel toe wears through now you have a sharp steel edge rubbing. I have wide feet its not a blessing 3E and size 12. I bought a pair of Superduty's last year or so yeah the comp toe makes the boot look more bulkier. The comfort exceeds the bulkiness, it is not good for your toes to be crammed in all day long, things need to move. I'm looking at buying another pair of Superduty's I know how they fit I will go down one size I may even go to a 2E boot. You gotta take comfort any day of the week, when I get home I'm not in a hurry to get my boots off because my feet hurt. I take them off at the end of the day with no foot pain I can't say that about the handmade boots I've had in the past.

    I’ve never owned a pair of boots that weren’t steel toe, got my first ones in high school and I’m 45 now. As a result I don’t mind them at all, other than being cold. That is a pain but I live in Ala. so we don’t really do cold very well.

    • @jkbootsusa
      @jkbootsusa  Місяць тому

      Its sometimes hard to tell when composite toes have been cracked. If its fully cracked through sometimes you can feel it. Otherwise you have to judge it off the impact/impacts that it has sustained. We recommend that after any big impact over the ASTM standard that the composite toe be replaced. As stated in our warranty, your warranty does not cover "The continued use of a safety toe or metatarsal guard after the boot has sustained an impact in excess of the ASTM rating specifications". Hopefully this helps! If you have any other questions please reach out to our customer support at general@jkboots.com

    • @SilverOilman

    I work with a lot of heavy metal. If you drop a piece on your boot, it'll cut clean down to the steel toe in the boot. Is the composite as safe as the steel toe, when it comes to 50 pounds of sharp metal hitting it? Or is steel toe still the best option?

    • @jkbootsusa
      @jkbootsusa  Рік тому +3

      The composite toe has the same ASTM rating as the steel toe which meets or exceeds the standard safety toe requirements for boots, so you can expect the same level of protection from either boot.

    What are celastic toe

    • @jessiehorne
      @jessiehorne Рік тому

      Celastic is a plastic impregnated fabric which becomes mold-able when activated by immersion in solvents such as Acetone and MEK (methyl ethyl ketone). Once dry from it's solvent bath, it is transformed into a light-weight, high impact material. Celastic toe is not a safety toe it is just a stiffened toe option to minimize the droopy toe appearance after break in and time. The moment an heavy object is dropped on a celastic toe it will give way.
