I am a hoarder when it comes to clothes. I get attached to pieces for no particular reason!!!!! It is extremely difficult for me to get rid of things. But this video has really inspired me to the point where I already grabbed about 10 things from the closet to get rid of...just while watching this video. Thank you Erin and Marnie!!!!!
I absolutely loved this! I had someone edit my closet a couple of years ago...it is definitely painful but the result was wonderful. It made getting getting dressed so much easier!
This is really helpful! I'm actually planning on cleaning my closet and I always have a hard time but with this video it will be a lot easier now. Thank you so much! !
I recently did this in my own closet. I got rid of anything that's wore out, doesn't fit me right, and not the right color. Now I have so much room in my closet and you are right tons of hangers. I need to go shopping. LOL!
That’s cool. We are a military family previously in San Antonio and likely headed back. Your vids in CO look like it’s a beautiful place to live. Many blessings.
Thank you so much sincerely. I needed your editing tips. They are so helpful, because I will be going through my clothes. I'm a new subscriber so I'm excited.
Nearly 2 years later, this is still one of the top closet-editing videos that inspire me to cull my wardrobe and scale-up my basics! Quality over quantity, always! :)
+Krys Kim That is AWESOME to hear! Thank you so much for sharing this, Krys! Let me know if I can help you with your editing! Hopefully I'll do a new closet cleanout video soon... Erin xo
Love it!! I keep a garbage bag hidden in my closet and when I come across something I no longer want I stick it in the bag....the bag gets full rather quickly. Looking forward to the next video!
After all of the editing and organizing I hope you'll do a video on shopping. Finding quality key pieces that every woman needs in her wardrobe. Great video. Thanks.
Ironically, I started this today since the weather was spring like (70). I always do it in the Spring & in October. If my sister or her daughter can't wear it, I donate it. However, my 18 year old teen daughter has never been a clothes "hound". If she buys something…she gets rid of something. She definitely didn't get that from me!
Nordstrom only has the blazer in x-small:( I picked the Nars lipstick you suggested and I LOVE it. Plan to wear it all spring. Love this video can't wait for the follow up.
Do you have a Nordstrom Rack? They sometimes have the jacket there. Are you a small?? The XS is like a small. Here is another option: click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=*xNL4At7S*M&subid=0&offerid=175596.1&type=10&tmpid=2425&RD_PARM1=http%3A%2F%2Fwww1.bloomingdales.com%2Fshop%2Fproduct%2Faqua-blazer-patch-pocket-ponte%3FID%3D987499%2526CategoryID%3D2911 I haven't seen this in person, but looks great in photo and very affordable!!
You are ruthless at editing - I love it! You would leave me with nothing in my closet. I also am guilty of buying way too much from Target, because I'm already there, just like Marni. And then I hate it all after 3 wears when it looks like trash. I'm working on breaking that habit.
Ha! Deborah Hanna ... I am definitely tough! But, that's why people hire me. :) Target is fabulous, but you don't want a whole wardrobe full of it. You are sooo right, it doesn't hold up. Better to have less that is higher quality than more of lesser quallity
I am new to style and am learning so much from watching your videos. I have been a beauty lover my entire life and enjoy all the UA-camrs including Marnie!! I have recently shed 80 pounds and now am working on my style. Great advice on how to edit a closet and now I know what to donate and what to keep (for now). I still have more weight to shed and a new job that requires a completely different style. I am so grateful for your wonderful videos and help. I'm going to have questions, but for now will concentrate on the editing of my closet. HUGS Kim
Thank you so much, Kimber41764 ... And congrats on your weight loss! That is amazing! Best of luck with your editing and let me know if you have any questions...
I've been single for 5 years and I have accumulated a lot of clothes thanks to this video dressing the body makes more sense time to get rid of some things good video
Hi Erin - enjoying re-watching this video. Love both your and Marnie's channels. I am in the over 40 group and there are few channels focussing on comtemporay fashion for women our age.
I have a question, which types of hangers do you recommend? I like wood but it takes up too much room in closet to just have wooden. no wire hangers ever? ;) ?
Hi Erin! Though I follow Marnie, I found you through looking at Nordstrom 's anniversary sale video's. I must say I think you the cutest. I love your style, I've bought several of your recommendations. Awesome video. I struggle with thinking I'll get back to that size ( haven't in over 5 years) I love how you edit. I did do a VERY small edit a few months ago, now I just need you to come to Ohio and help me with fine tune mine😊
Great video Erin. I sooo am spring cleaning my closet this weekend, it will be hard but I am going to try go with your rules. I feel like I have a bit tucked away at the ends of the closet. Eyyyyyy!!! xxJen
Ladies this is a great vid I have watched it many times but today is the day I seriously edit my closet it's so hard because mine is as busy as marnies and lots of beautiful things wish you guys were here to make the decisions easier 😔
Love this video, think I need a friend to help me with the editing as I find it hard to get rid of things. Looking forward to the video showing how to put it all together .
Julie Cox be careful asking your friend because they will not be completely honest and if they are... you might get mad at them. Hiring someone to help is better! :)) Thanks for watching!!
Are bootcut jeans back " in " ? I spend a lot on jeans ( just can't stand the way most cheaper jeans look) so I have kept a few pairs of bootcut for a while
Loved this!!! I can't wait for the shopping video!! I need you to come to Alabama lol!! I really am considering getting a professional at saks or somewhere to really help me get some timeless essentials. I just don't want someone that wants to sell me everything lol!!!
Yeah, be careful about in store "personal shoppers or stylists" they ALL are commission based and will try to sell you regardless of whether it works or not. If you are sure of what looks good, could be fun and a good resource. Let me know if you have questions... Never been to Alabama... ;)
Thanks so much, ***** - I think it is SO cathartic to clean out your closet. If you embark on the challenge, let me know if you have any questions... :)
I just cleaned out my closet this weekend!! I think I should go back and do it again, wanna make a trip to Wisconsin? lol Thanks for the video! xo Kristin
+Courtney Radley sad and droopy is usually what I think of when I think of 'tired' garments. I still have a few of those that I have demoted to house clothes. ;)
I'm in this process and boy, is it painful to the brain. Enough to make me crave a glass of wine (I don't drink now so, stressful.) The background music is very distracting, btw. Glad your newer vids don't seem to be tracked with muzak - thanks!
It is definitely an overwhelming process...I totally get that. I do hope you were able to find something helpful in this video, despite the music, and I'm so glad you're enjoying my newer videos too. We've come a long way in the past 8 years here at Busbee Style! xo
fabulous video, glad I found your channel!!! Wish you could fly to my closet-but you would need a "grande coffee" to tackle my 10 x 10 overflowing closet!!
I feel like sequin skulls and lips are not for 40 something's. Am I wrong? Maybe You could do a video on age appropriate stores for your age. To be honest I am in my early thirties and question where to shop.
You are correct, janeen McWilliams that was definitely one of the pieces that got thrown into the donate pile. She also had a top with a giant heart on the front that didn't make the cut. Early 30's... Zara.com, Asos.com, Forever.com, Nordstrom.com, Bloomingdales.com, JCrew.com, BananaRepublic.com... I could go on and on. LOTS of choices!! What are you looking for??
Ha! I DO love makeup, but really wanted Marnie to take the lead. You are right, I'm MUCH more interested in styling and fashion than makeup, though. Marnie is like a kid in a candy store going into Sephora. I'm not that interested and would rather purchase cosmetics online. That's an outlet mall for me!! :)
I thought that and im the same with fashion would rather buy online instead of actually shopping I love make up buy both online and in the shops spend far too much money.
But Fashion comes in cycles. I am now wearing clothes again I used to wear 20 years (!) ago, and my friends keep saying, they like it and want to know where I got it!
That's why I keep nice pieces... Like leather, suede, high end designer. That said, often new versions have modern modifications so even if something comes back, you may still not want to wear it. Make sense? Think 80's shoulder pads. Shoulder pads came back, but a much more subtle version. Erin xo
Wait…why is she convincing her client to keep certain items that she says she never wears? (pink jacket, and the white jacket)….I'm not even going to finish this video. She's forgetting her own rule.
And, the first jacket she looked at she said keep it because it might come back in style. One of her rules was don't keep it if you only want it because it might come back in style
Angie is right! I was trying to show Marnie that a piece she had not worn in years was something she can wear and repurpose. If you don't wear something for two years you won't wear it, unless... you just didn't know how to wear it and that's why it sat in your closet collecting dust. Does that make sense? Understand the distinction?
SoftHeartConviction I totally agree! She says if you think it's gonna come back in style you Have to throw it out. And THE VERY FIRST THING HER CLIENT GRABS she says I never throw out leather or suede because they might go back in style....smh
Busbee Style, this was so informative and it has motivated me to take a 2nd look at my closet!!! But may I lovingly say that the blue top you have on is very unflattering...you have such a cute figure and to wear such a boxy top is unflattering. Humbly commenting.
You realize that by donating them... you are clothing someone in need who will love and appreciate them versus just sitting in your closet taking up space. 😘😘 Erin
$ 75 for a clothes rack is absurd you can pick up GREAT solid ones on Craig,s list for $ 20. This woman does not live in the real world. She will wake up when her company cooks their books, goes bankrupt, or whatever and she realizes that she can' toss off everything that doesn't fit or needs an alteration. I agree- I am trying to minimulize my space but I don't want to pay ANYTHING to do it. This article is for for people who are (presently} rich.
I wish you could come to my house and "edit" my closet!!I need someone to force me to throw out lots of my stuff :( I'm a new subscriber, interesting channel :)
+Marina Doshkevich I think it's important to dress the body you have today because I think it can be depressing to stare at clothes you want to wear, that don't fit. I give you a little wiggle room by saying you can keep one size up and one size down. I simply suggest donating 2 sizes up or down. Erin xo
The thing in my opinion is to not have half your closet full of stuff you can't wear. I recently did a closet purge and kept a few of my absolute favorite items that I will be able to wear if I loose the 10-20 lbs I gained living at college. Key word being few.
Angel Noneya That is funny! I don't 'hate' anything, especially not a wonderful store like "White House Black Market"... one of my all-time favorite client purchases is a tweed jacket from White House Black Market. What I suggested to Marnie is that.. the older White House Black Market printed pieces look dated or a bit dowdy. Make sense? :))
Ha ha... Susanne S ... I have had some clients who want me to do the edit without them and then just do the reveal at the end. :) It's VERY hard, though, since I always have lots of questions. There is no better way to determine what is happening with a woman's style than editing her closet.
Ha ha jennmattnick ... you CAN do it on your own. You just have to be tough and real with yourself. Follow the criteria in the video and it will not fail you...
Honestly, I hate that you're so materialistic. I can't believe you're encouraging somebody to focus on a mediocre brand name. I could take the money from ONE of your high-end jackets [outlet or not] and make a entire winter wardrobe [to last me for years] from target... AND it would LOOK high-end anyway ;) :P
+bahbahbrittany the quality of higher end brands is far superior to Target type stores. You can tell, I'm not talking Bebe, I'm talking Rag & Bone, Band of Outsiders, Coco, you can totally tell when somebody is wearing a high end brand piece of clothing and it keeps it form way way longer. Target may last, but it doesn't keep it's form. After a while, it will look "tired".
+bahbahbrittany I think Target can look VERY high end. No doubt about it. I did a video featuring looks from Wal-Mart that look very chic and expensive. The problem is...they don't always wash and wear well. They ball up and/or fade quickly. In my opinion it is more cost effective to buy higher end basics that will last for years, rather than buy lower quality clothes that will only last a year or two. Erin xo
Awesome... that is soooo great! Good for you! :)
I absolutely loved this! I had someone edit my closet a couple of years ago...it is definitely painful but the result was wonderful. It made getting getting dressed so much easier!
It saves you SOOOO much time when you are not looking through clothes you don't wear and everything is organized. It is a game changer for sure!!
This is really helpful! I'm actually planning on cleaning my closet and I always have a hard time but with this video it will be a lot easier now. Thank you so much! !
I love the criteria list. "I do solemnly swear to edit my closet". Thanks for the inspiration!
Yeah Beth Pineau ... you can do it! Take before and after pics... :))
I recently did this in my own closet. I got rid of anything that's wore out, doesn't fit me right, and not the right color. Now I have so much room in my closet and you are right tons of hangers. I need to go shopping. LOL!
Awesome! Way to go! Erin xo
+Marlene S Thanks for subscribing, Marlene!! Erin xo
Love these videos, I found that the Huggable hangers keep things neat in my closet and save some space too.
Thanks for sharing your tip!! I like the plastic ones with the catches because they can waterfall which is nice if you have limited closet space.
LOVE THIS!!! Erin, you should do this in more client's homes...if they're willing to be on camera....just fantastic! Love your taste too.
Great idea! Dressing my neighbor's in the new year!
Erin xo
Ok you have inspired me! Going to get up right now and hit my closet...thanks so much for the video!
Yeah!! dmdreaming ... you can do it!
Love it!! I keep a garbage bag hidden in my closet and when I come across something I no longer want I stick it in the bag....the bag gets full rather quickly. Looking forward to the next video!
I love this tip, Tammy Mason ... I think that is such a smart idea! It makes the editing process much easier if you do it on a regular basis
Great video! I could've watched the entire hour :) I enjoyed hearing you guys talk through each piece.
Erin this was so helpful! Just tell Marnie she has to put that shirt she is wearing in the Good Will pile! Yikes!
+Wendy Bee Hilarious, Wendy! You don't like sparkly skulls?
not so much
This was great! I am in need of this! I love your videos . Can't stop watching. Thanks for all your tips!
CGM8679 ... Thank you for the love!! I appreciate your support!
After all of the editing and organizing I hope you'll do a video on shopping. Finding quality key pieces that every woman needs in her wardrobe. Great video. Thanks.

I enjoyed this video so much...so useful...thank you! You made me happy..
Yeah! niacatstudio ...your comment just made me happy. Now I MUST get back to work!!

Such a great video! Love the tips especially the "do I look cute in this" darn right I better haha! Looking forward to next video!

I love your videos and your amazing ideas! Thanks
Thanks Lina Z ... I really appreciate your support!
Great job, Erin and Marnie was a trooper! Can't wait to see more... XO
Thanks so much, Kim!! :)))

Great video Erin. I sooo am spring cleaning my closet this weekend, it will be hard but I am going to try go with your rules. I feel like I have a bit tucked away at the ends of the closet. Eyyyyyy!!! xxJen

+Sharon van houten Good luck, Sharon!! And, thanks for the kind words... Erin xo
Woah, I thought that was a clothing rack in a store they were standing in front of. That is a bunch o' clothing!
+Margo Gadet Ha! Yes, Marnie has a lot of clothes...
This was amazingly helpful
Yay!! That's so great! Thanks for watching! Erin xo
Great show. I feel the music is too loud and distracts from the message though.
Yeah... I know. I've since lost the music in my videos... Erin xo

I spend a lot on jeans ( just can't stand the way most cheaper jeans look) so I have kept a few pairs of bootcut for a while
Bootcut jeans are always in style!! Fitted through thighs, flared slightly from knee down
Love it!!
So many good ideas, thanks ladies :-)
You bet!! 😘😘 Erin
100% FANTASTIC POST
Nice work gals! I agree-the holiday theme tshirt had to go.;)
Thanks for cracking me up ***** ... :))
i Love these types of videos and I have subscribed, great tips on closet editing. ps.any chance the background music could be shut off - or lowered?
Sure deedee lebowski ... I'm lowering on new videos so should be better. Let me know if it's still distracting.
Never been to Alabama... ;)
You are tough Erin. I loved it! Will you do edit your shoe rack video as well...
I was probably tougher on Marnie because she's my friend and we like to poke fun at each other a little. 😉
Erin - I want you to come to my closet! Marnie you were so receptive to letting go of things. What a great video ♥ Elle
Thanks so much, ***** - I think it is SO cathartic to clean out your closet. If you embark on the challenge, let me know if you have any questions... :)
I just cleaned out my closet this weekend!! I think I should go back and do it again, wanna make a trip to Wisconsin? lol Thanks for the video! xo Kristin
Ha ha... Nope, WAY too cold for this fair weather Texan! ;)
Love!
You kept saying "it looks tired." What makes a garment look tired? Just worn and washed out?
Pilling, stretched out, faded. Easy for me to say, I hang on to anything I spent a lot of money on!!!
Yellowed whites, pilling, snags, faded color...
+Courtney Radley sad and droopy is usually what I think of when I think of 'tired' garments. I still have a few of those that I have demoted to house clothes. ;)

I need this so bad!
I love this😂😍😘
Obsessed! You are awesome.
+Stacey Floyd THANKS Stacey!!!
Is that all one person's clothes? Dang
+BowlMasterAsh Haha... yup... Marnie has a lot of clothes. You should see her makeup! ;) Erin xo
Great video!
Great video! Very helpful! Wish you could help me wirh my wardrobe as well!!
Ha! I can... just follow those rules and you'll be fine.
Inspiring! :)
Mission accomplished! Erin xo
fabulous video, glad I found your channel!!! Wish you could fly to my closet-but you would need a "grande coffee" to tackle my 10 x 10 overflowing closet!!
Wow!! Lucky girl to have so much space!! Erin xo
Hey there. Are you in San Antonio?
We just moved from Boerne to Telluride, CO
Get edit video! I am new to your channel but enjoying everything. (also older than you :-) )
+Ima Blank Thanks for subscribing!! Much appreciated!
i want a closet that large >.< mine is like 1/10 of it haha

C Chandler yes and also what's wrong with target. Snobby!
Sorry, I had to fast forward to see the end result of the closet but was disappointed. I was expecting a rainbow colour closet.
Nature and my closet abhors a void
I wish you could come to my house and "edit" my closet!!I need someone to force me to throw out lots of my stuff :(
I'm a new subscriber, interesting channel :)
Its not a bad idea to have stuff for if you end up loosing weight around.
+Marina Doshkevich I think it's important to dress the body you have today because I think it can be depressing to stare at clothes you want to wear, that don't fit. I give you a little wiggle room by saying you can keep one size up and one size down. I simply suggest donating 2 sizes up or down. Erin xo

i agree it happened to me.
The thing in my opinion is to not have half your closet full of stuff you can't wear.
I recently did a closet purge and kept a few of my absolute favorite items that I will be able to wear if I loose the 10-20 lbs I gained living at college. Key word being few.
I hope those two fur items were "fake fur" and not off the body of an animal that has been painfully and senselessly tortured for the sake of vanity
+Sallysudlow agreed! Fur is disgusting and anyone who wears it is disgusting. Leave the fur on the beautiful animals to whom it belongs!
One more question lol why do u hate White House black market ?
Angel Noneya That is funny! I don't 'hate' anything, especially not a wonderful store like "White House Black Market"... one of my all-time favorite client purchases is a tweed jacket from White House Black Market. What I suggested to Marnie is that.. the older White House Black Market printed pieces look dated or a bit dowdy. Make sense? :))
I'm having anxiety just reading the title of this video lol..
Ha! Funny... Yes, VERY tough to do! Good luck! Erin xo
I would have needed a tranquilizer -- but I picked up some great tips!

Ha ha... Susanne S ... I have had some clients who want me to do the edit without them and then just do the reveal at the end. :) It's VERY hard, though, since I always have lots of questions. There is no better way to determine what is happening with a woman's style than editing her closet.
who has this many clothes??
Ha! It looks like a lot, huh? Marnie has a big closet...
Love this!! Wish you could come to my closet ;)
Ha ha jennmattnick ... you CAN do it on your own. You just have to be tough and real with yourself. Follow the criteria in the video and it will not fail you...
Omg what a hideous t shirts skull she's wearing. I'm outta here.
Suzi Hazlove, I agree with you! Let’s start by getting rid of that totally hideous skull T-shirt!!
Thank God we nurses don't wear white anymore!!!!
If you like country farm plait. I don't.
This was a dumb video. This person has consumed way to much stuff, and the stylist was encouraging her to keep things that she doesn't wear.
I enjoy your videos--but
Oops--but the music was a little loud--distracting for me
Honestly, I hate that you're so materialistic.
Erin xo
