  • Rashani Reå retreat center on Big Island of Hawaii. Located in the historic and remote district of Ka'u, Kipukamaluhia is an earth-based, dharma sanctuary to which people come for individual and group retreats throughout the year. "Dharma" in its broadest sense means Nature and thus signifies 'the way things are.' At Kipukamaluhia, we refer to "the living dharma" which is not limited to any specific practice, religion, scripture or spiritual trapping of any kind. The traditional Hawaiian way of life has a great emphasis on direct experience which is in alignment with our deepest values and aspirations as it points to the essence of reality. "Rashani has and is a powerful gift for us. Through her buoyant strength and grace, healing happens for body and soul." -Joanna Macy, Author of World as Lover, World as Self

I met Rashani, many years ago, (49 to be exact) when I rented a studio from her parents, on their property in Portola Valley, CA. I was 21, she was 15. I was studying photography in college, she was in middle school, but in spite of the age difference, we became fast friends, as she was well ahead of her age. I lost touch with Rashani for 45 years, when I left California and her family moved to Europe. I was able to reconnect with Rashani a few years ago, thanks to social media. I could write a book about her and her amazing family, and how spending about two years in their presence affected, my entire life...and I still would not come even close to explaining how incredible she/they are/were. Suffice it to say that Rashani and her family are the most incredibly amazing people I have met in my entire life. I will be forever grateful for the blessing of knowing them. Joy Kincaid, Dallas, TX
