5) Is the biggest dogshit I've ever heard regarding videos about Germany. Living in Germany for 40 years, I have NEVER seen a dog in a supermarket. Not just because they are forbidden there. Also, the "poop everywhere" thing is complete bullshit. Sure, in an extremely busy area with lots and lots of dogs, you will unfortunately find a lot of dog poo. Even now and again on the paths in big cities. But not on normal forest or field paths and not "everywhere".
You might see dogs in a Supermarket. However, it's only allowed if the dogs are so-called assistance(?) dogs for handicapped People. Besides this, I have never ever seen dogs in Supermarket.
Ahoi! As a reserved German, I simply answer as a list ;D 1: In cities/villages it's all ok. In the middle of nowhere it's really like that. 2: Yes 3: Even as a German with others, yes 4: Yes, but things have improved in recent years 5: Wtf No?!??! .. wtf 6: Aye 7:Aye!! 8: Yes! But about driving license: dude! (vs original video) we can drive 250kmh and more on our highway! 9: Yes, but it has become less in recent years 10: No more, rather less than everywhere else in recent years. Our rural east is comparable to the children's version of your south.
@@cutlers3618 I didn't mean it would be less. But in comparison to the fact that it is more everywhere, it is not exceptionally high in Germany. Except in the East.
This video is kinda disappointing as a German, and it really seems it doesn't give first hand experiences to tell. One REAL dark side for many US Americans here in Germany seems to be our different views on pain medications. In Germany it is quite common to accept pain and discomfort as part of the natural healing process, even with more serious injuries. (I myself was born with heart disease and had multiple operations in my life, to I know the pain of healing scars and getting stitches pulled and worse). Pain medication is only given in extreme situations here, and if it is given only for short while. This is quite a culture schock for many US citizens that are used to take painkillers for every little headache normally, which makes them suffer literally. I think I've only seen one video until now mentioning that on UA-cam.
"The Dark Sides of Living in Germany" 1. slow internet; 2. people are honest with strangers to the point of being blunt; 3. the country has German immigration officers (who are also blunt with strangers); 4. the culture has an emphasis on privacy and personal space; 5. LoL that title sets expectations way too high for the list it provided.
1) It depends. I for myself have 1 Gigabit/s but yes, espacially in the countryside you may have a bad connection 2) Ausländerbehörde... I wouldn't sign that, it depends on the people. But in general - germans aren't that polite as people in other countries. So over generalizing - yes. 3) Yes 4) Yes 5) Dog poo everywhere? Wtf?! No! And I'am from Frankfurt - not the city with the cleaniest image... Just not true at all. So if you visit an office to get something done and you are prepared (documents, you know) - you only have to visit it once. To answer your question - I do the taxes myself with help of a specific software. Not a great deal but it might be complicated if you aren't used to. The tax system seems to try to consider every single personal situation and trys to reach "Einzelfallgerechtigkeit" ("single case equity", something like the try to be fair and consider every single personal situation) 8) Maybe yes, our system is not just based of consideration. The regulations are there to have a possibility to intervene e.g. by the police to people which doesn't give a sh** of others 9) Yes, compared to other countries, smoking is still a thing here 10) Germany is not racist but of course you have racists here. i am from cologne and i don't belive that frankfurt hasn't the same problem with dog shit then any other big city in germany....maybeyou have to open your eyes and ake a closer look💩
I really don't think that the narrator even has visited Europe. At least, not this century. Smoking hasn't been allowed inside a work place (including bars, there's people working there too) in the EU for decades now. Everywhere you go with a dog, you're obliged to take a poop scoop with you. And a second one, because you always have to have an unused one on you when with a dog (at least, within city bounderies of almost all cities). And the racism thing, I've got the feeling that a small minority might go that far. Like a certain clan in the US. I've got the feeling that the original video is based on a website that hasn't been updated since the 90's...
That video is mainly a lot of BS. Things like the dog poo for example: of course there are rules to make dog owners pick that up, and you can get fined when failing to do so. But there are millions of dog owners, so there are also a number of bad apples among them. Another mistake is the statement that health service is free in Germany. It is only really free for people who live on social benefits. People who are employed have to pay into a health insurance (state or private), the system is not funded by tax money. The internet speed is also not so much of an issue anymore. But that can vary, depending on where you live and what you are prepared to spend for it. I mean, how fast is your internet if you live in the desert in Arizona, and you monthly budget is $25 ? And also the other things.... its mostly very relative, like how easy you find friends and all that.
The original video is really bad. Most points are stereotypical and he gives almost zero background to it. And some points are outright wrong - especially 5 and 10. 5: Many germans have dogs and just like with almost everything else in Germany, you need a "license" for owning dogs. You also need an insurance for your dog and if you don't remove the poop, you can get fined. 10: Germany has far less problems with racism than most other western countries. After the terrible events of the last century, discrimination is a very important topic in German society and especially in schools.Children are sensitised to the topic from an early age. Of course there are always a few bad apples, but discrimination is severely punished in Germany and other people avoid racists very quickly. If you want to learn more about the dark sites of Germany, just ask any German. We love to complain about our country XD
6:39 There used to be a lot more dog poop, when I was young, But today - no, it´s really uncommon to find dog poop in the streets. On the other hand: Goethe, the most famous poet in german history once said, after moving to another city: "When I go outside, I step in shit. I don´t like that". (My translation, his words). So, perhaps the poop that still exists, is an important cultural herritage.
1: Hes making it sound way worse than it is... 2: I think its just the first encounter with the infamous german bureaucracy, the immigration office is not much different than other offices. 3: I think thats because most immigrants expect to make friends at work but the germans differentiate between friend and colleague. Even if they behave like friends, it takes some time before they want to have something to to with you, outside of work. If you want to make friends, join one of the many local clubs, id say... The bureaucracy is hard, even for germans and I dont want know how hard it must be, for someone not speaking the language... the other 8 points, idk, seem more like you-problems.
maybe white germans shouldn't talk on issues concerning immigrants and foreigners. Cause almost everybody who needed to got to the ausländerbehörde had a lot of bad experiences even white foreigners. And yes racism especially for black and brown people is a big thing in Germany.

1: He's almost right. The internet in the cities is acceptable, in rural areas it is sometimes really bad. When the licenses were auctioned, the government forgot to include a commitment for fiber optic cable technology in the contract for the future. 2: Every authority in Germany is notorious for its bad behavior. The idea of service is very poorly developed, especially when the clerks are civil servants. Then some have an attitude reminiscent of dictatorships. 3: That depends. You won't make friends in pubs and nightclubs or in public places. Approaching someone in random places will rarely work either. It's not easy to make friends at work either. You have to go to places where leisure activities take place. There are thousands of sports clubs for every kind of sport, for singing, dancing like tango, salsa, bachata, waltz, foxtrot, west coast swing etc. RC model making, knitting, climbing, cooking, baking, barbecuing, wine making, beer brewing, bouldering, car racing, sailing all kinds of boats, kitesurfing, windsurfing, skateboarding, longboarding, bowling, gardening, collecting stamps, porcelain, dolls, beekeeping, breeding all kinds of dogs, birds, insects, reptiles, tropical fish, rabbits, hares, woodwork, metalwork and don't forget, shooting clubs and volunteer fire department (they everywhere) and so on and so forth. In Germany, there is an association for each type of activity, which you can easily contact if you are interested in this activity. 4. Folks, the southernmost parts of Germany are on the same latitude as southern Canada. Many US Americans believe that all of Canada is a frozen wasteland year round where people live in igloos and ride polar bears. What is this American fetish with air conditioning. I understand that the climate in the US is much warmer because you are on the same latitude as Africa and much closer to the equator, but the Germans are not. We prefer underfloor heating to air conditioning because we need it much more. We have some warm days in summer, but we have many more colder days throughout the year. We'll see what climate change brings for us, maybe it will be necessary in the future. Maybe we will then switch to more air conditioning. Believe me, we know the technology, the Germans invented it. 5. WTF Most dog owners run around with little bags and pick up their dogs' poop and throw it in the nearest trash can, and the benefit of a higher tax rate is that we have a functioning city sanitation department. Dogs are generally not allowed in grocery stores. I can't remember a day when I've seen a dog in another store. They usually sit outside in front of the stores. 6: This is a typical US complain. Always moaning about taxes but no differentiation. If Americans would include in their "taxes" their health insurance, education and social security costs against comparable benefits, they would be in for a rude awakening. In addition, the government pays organizations for consumer protection, for example. All these small scams in the USA where imaginary fees or strange surcharges appear or contractual promises are not kept, for example for cell phones in mobile phone contracts, the government protects us from losses. Nobody in the USA would pay a lawyer for something like that because they are far too expensive. Another point is our food safety. I pay taxes without getting annoyed because I get a lot back in return. 7. The guy was smoking something, right? What's wrong with knowing the traffic rules and signs if you want to take part in traffic? Especially in Germany, where there are no speed limits on the Autobahn. Nobody has to learn how vehicles are constructed. You learn where the front is, where the trunk is, where the engine is and what you have to check regularly (e.g. brake fluid, engine oil, coolant, windshield washer fluid) and what you can use to make it frost-proof in winter. This isn't a class to get an engineering degree at least not in Germany. In the USA, ten times more people die per mile driven in traffic than in Germany. What could be the reason for this? Anyone have any ideas? To get a drivers license could be probably a bit more bureaucracy in comparison to the USA. When bureaucracy means people have to learn driving in a proper way with a minimum requirement of hours with an instructor and to proof their skills in a theoretical and practical exam then thx god for the bureaucracy. Bureaucracy is mostly a problem when they are inefficient and this happens very often in Germany. The authorities are quite sluggish, back in days and many of their services aren't online available. But there is another reason for this and this is the Basis Regulation for Data Protection which made online services often very annoying. 9. The smoking rules depending on the state where you live but in general is smoking inside not allowed. But to be honest, some smokers are mindless @ssholes. But usually they are a minority and behave quite well. My friends an I are non-smokers and were usually not bothered by smokers. 10: Of course there is racism in Germany. With the rise of the far-right AfD, they are crawling out of their stinking brown holes more and more often and shouting their propaganda. On the other hand, millions have taken to the streets in recent weeks to show their opposition to these kinds of people. Comments like those of your former President Trump about Mexicans (rapists, terrorists, drug dealers) are something you would never hear from our democratic parties or the German Chancellor.
I did never see any dog in a supermarket. Normally there are even signs at the door, that dogs are not allowed there. And it is also seen as very rude, not to clean after your dog.
While the surely video is a bit exaggerated, I agree with most of it. I only notice a lot of things when I come back from longer trips abroad. 1) The internet connection in Germany isn't great compared to other countries (with an average download rate of around 91.4 megabits per second, we occupy 60th place in the global ranking). 2) I think it's pretty accurate 3) I think this can be very true (but it is also somewhat subjective) 4) There are multiple reasons, like the short summer, but also a lot of people find that the indoor climate is fine without air conditioning. In addition, the costs of air conditioning systems are often too high and many keep their homes cool with simple fans. That said, interest and use has been increasing in recent years. 5) While it is of course exaggerated, German cities do have a problem with dog waste (there are multiple articles about it in the last two years). Especially on sidewalks and in parks, which is also a reason for the extension of the free dog waste bags (in some areas it is so extreme that residents themselves put up dog waste bags and signs in the neighborhood). It surly isn't blanketed in dog waste, but I have to say this is something I do not see as much (not even close) in many other countries (I especially do not see as many dogs in so many everyday situations). The rest is pretty accurate (but often a bit exaggerated) in my opinion (which is subjective).
About the dog poo - That might have been a thing some 20- 30 years in the past in my region (although it was not worse than in other countries i visited). Now people have to remove the dog poo by administrative order and there is even public dispensers of compostable bags in city parks etc for picking up the remains. I don't know for the entirety of Germany, but for my region that statement made in the video is very wrong.
Most of the "facts" mentioned in the orig clip are massively over inflated. Most of the problems mentioned are probably linked to not speaking the language, most likely even the racism parts. Especially in the workplace you have to give 110% if you're the new guy. But that's the same for Germans. Also, most foreigners have no concept of punctuality which is a huge problem in Germany.
No you don't need make an tax declaration if you will spend the government your money. An regular declaration of income tax need less then 1 houre for an practiced citicent. My last declartion bring me 800€ back in 30 minutes of work. It's an greate hourly wage for burocratisy.
I agree with the point about the high level of bureaucracy. I can't confirm a problem with dog poo, at least in my town. I don't know which place he's referring to. Smoking is also not allowed here in Bavaria in public areas such as cafes etc. However, this is regulated at state level. The rest sounds more like a list of his personal negative experiences. I don't really see that these points are representative or stand out in comparison with other countries.🤷♂

Internet is fine in cities. I've had a 1GBit connection for years and no issues, even after moving several times. The dog shit thing is true. I'm german and it's really annoying and disgusting. I once had to shout at a guy across the street who let his dog shit right in the middle of a school entrance - with the pupils standing around the area. I have no idea why dog owners here are so disgusting. I can't just simply walk down a sidewalk because the chance to step in dog shit is too high. I also don't go onto grassy areas for the same reason. It's really mindboggling. Honestly, some people seem to think of it as an art, trying to get their dog's shit on as many places and surfaces as possible. Onto low walls, thrown away buckets, even seen shit stick ONTO WALLS. wth?

Dog poo definitely isn't everywhere in Germany
It is obvious, that this Guy don't speak German. In this case it can be very challanging to live here.
2) I think it's pretty accurate
3) I think this can be very true (but it is also somewhat subjective)
4) There are multiple reasons, like the short summer, but also a lot of people find that the indoor climate is fine without air conditioning.
1. true bothers us as well
2. true
3. True but actually it’s because we are not well in small talk… i would say it depends on the single person not on the whole society… it might be strange but we need a bit to open up with a stranger but we love to help… be patient with us… 😊
4. true but isn’t important in a good isolated house
5. untrue e.g in bavaria if you don’t put the dog poo away you can get in trouble
6. true
7 true and is annoying us as well
8. looool true sometimes it is too much but lots of rules have good reasons
9 hahahaha not true😂😂😂
10. true sadly true like any other country as well by the way, but most are still fighting against racism
Onto low walls, thrown away buckets, even seen shit stick ONTO WALLS. wth?
I am German..... don't trust the AI voice at all
That particular AI voice is used by channels that seem to use Wikipedia and similar sources of information, plus stock footage, to create these type of misleading videos.
Sorry, but everything the video you react on is wrong or exaggerated. (I live in Germany)
Misleading video with a BS pseudo English voice. It feels like the creator of the original video has never been to Germany, but made it using secondhand bogus information.
Thought it was a crap AI American accent. Definitely not authentic enough to be a British one
Well.. that video is from the Learning Canteen. They make up stuff as they go along. The 10 'Best' or 'Worst' of anything. Dreadful and inaccurate, most of it. Avoid .
5. complete BS, 4. why so many people come to germany/want to,if its so terrible without them..i wonder how we(germans) survived the past 2000 years without them.3. it takes a while but once you have one,you have him for life.me as a german .i rather have only 2 friends in 30 years then having 55 which call themselves friends, but when you need one they are all excused ( germans will know what im talking about).
Plus the driver license isn't much easier to get in France (just as an example)
Hahaha that video is just silly, that dude is just inventing made up problems. To put it bluntly, hes a bloody fool o.O
bad information, widely debunked by feli.
I think Feli debunked another video by Briggs that was even more… it was hateful. He took his video down.
