This is the best American history YT channel. The idea of it being about the soul of history is precisely what I value about history. Thank you guys so much for sharing your knowledge with all of us.
Freddie is one of the most gifted storytellers I’ve ever come across. The way he delivers a story makes you recall it as a memory. Thank you Freddie for sharing your gift and your passion. Ben, I’d love to see Freddie back and have him tell some stories of his professional life. I’ve heard a few stories on other podcasts (shoutout Jones and Adam) and they’re just as incredible as the stories we hear in Threads.
So fun to find Fred on UA-cam. I am a CHHS alumni, class of 82’ and went on the Civil War trip. I still have memories and photos from that trip so many years ago.
I have been to several civil war sites and have always enjoyed the civil war. Thank you, Fred, for the way you tell the stories. I will continue to follow your site and learn more about this important time in the history of our country. Thank you very much 😊
Mr Kiger, thank you for your time in putting a voice to these stories When you were a teacher I was but a babe, so I missed the opportunity to be your student way back when. I'm so thankful to have the opportunity to be your student, now New subscriber
Very nice to watch this. I just started to watch your videos, I started with the " surrender at appomattox " part and enjoyed it really. Now I watch one after another. Your channel is one of the best and I hope you go on
@@ThreadsfromtheNationalTapestry I look forward to it. I'm from Germany, I would like to hear something about the german soldiers in the war. There are many informations about the germans in the Union Army but very poor for the confederates. The well known Heros von Borcke, more I don't hear/read about
Thank you, Mr. Kiger, for teaching in your schools about The Civil War in Chapel Hill. My people are natives to the area around Charlotte (1740's) and I write novels about their involvement in the Civil War here. Today, they just want to squash all of my people's history and tell it untruthfully. That's just not right. You seem to do a good job.
Hello Fred I love your voice and your stories. Abraham Lincoln is actually a first cousin to me 6 times removed because my grandfather was Captain Abraham Lincoln. One of the fascinating stories I have heard is how they had to hide President Lincoln and Mary’s body under rubble to hide them from body thieves. Anyway, my question is regarding the Civil War. Is it true that the war started and ended at the same time? If so, I hope you do a story on that if it’s true
I’m a patron of both your YT channel and podcast. It’s much more interesting to learn and hear your stories than all the rubbish that’s called entertainment today. I did not have an interest in the civil war before I found your channel and now I’m obsessed with learning as much as I can. I’m a sponge absorbing every tidbit of information you share. Thank you so much Fred and I look forward to every new episode and never tire of listening to the old 😊
Yes, you said it! We must learn. I trust you now. It was not the afternoon picnic war that they thought, it got very real very quick. Hunger at home, inflation, crops failing, bushwhackers in the knobs, and the battle ahead.
Fred evoked fond memories of the 1961-65 era Civil War 'Gum' pack cards (images leaving little to the imagination) & the wonderful 'Confederate' paper money that came with them. Had a good collection. All vanished . . . A pity that treasure disappeared.
In further episodes going forward you should talk more about the lesser known engagements. Pea ridge, Jenkins ferry, poison springs, Sabine pass, Murfreesboro, etc. there’s plenty of smaller engagements to choose from. Just a suggestion
Brother against brother had the same affect on me as Time Life centennial did for Fred. Not the words of the book. The pictures spoke volumes. I couldn’t get enough. Still can’t.
He has been putting me ro sleep for a while now living history if i could put it down to hours on any type of history vid from all sorts it's damn near close to 400 hours or more not counting extra or each
Another great youtube chanel is, "Life on the Civil War Research Trail" is hosted by Ronald S. Coddington. I enjoy his content, but he is not a good narrator. My wet dream is TFTNT, and he joining forces and getting Fred to narrate his videos. A match made in heaven!
So far my fav has been ww1 by numbers a great series same with the ww2 by numbers civil war/and before are just mind blown yes I love my current time and all the foodies that fo with it mid 1750's1840's is what I would love to do
I appreciate his efforts-----but Fred Kiger's voice is grating, and not good for narration. It's too high-pitched and nasal. Is there any way that Mr. Kiger could help prepare content, but that this channel could pay someone else with a deep, sonorous voice to narrate? Mr. Kiger sounds better simply speaking, as in this video, but as a narrator, his voice just does not work for me. I wanted to watch and listen to the video about Mary Todd Lincoln, but Mr. Kiger's voice bothered me too much to continue. (Also, please don't say that someone "passed". That's hicky. Please say that someone died, not "passed".). A further note, I am from NC, and was graduated from UNC-CH in 1978, with a degree is US History. I studied the Civil War under Dr. Leutse (I'm not sure that I recall the correct spelling of his name, but since Mr. Kiger began teaching at UNC in 1980, I'm sure that he will recall the excellent teaching of Dr. Leutse.)

That’s really nice of you to say. Thank you for the support!
Kiger could read the phone book and make it intriguing ❤
Kiger sounds like a man who knows his stuff before I seen his face, and he didn’t disappoint today. What a great storyteller he is.
Amazing storyteller.
Amazing narration Fred!! What a great story teller. Very much appreciate all you do !

Thanks for the kind words. We hope to do more of this in the future.
Looking forward to it! Should we subscribe here or is the Patreon still around?
I love this channel even more after watching this. And I didn’t think that was possible! You guys are fantastic. Thank you!

This is a great channel. I have enjoyed every video so far. Keep up the great work Mr. Kiger

An unbelievable cadence to his voice.

Thank you for all the support Lisa! It is greatly appreciated.
Great content. Great channel
Mr. Kiger's presentation reminds me of the style of the late great Paul Harvey. I always expect him to say, "and that's the rest of the story."
Yes, you said it! We must learn. I trust you now. It was not the afternoon picnic war that they thought, it got very real very quick. Hunger at home, inflation, crops failing, bushwhackers in the knobs, and the battle ahead.

Awesome.
We ride with Fred

Fred sounds a bit like Ed Bearss and looks A LOT like Ed Bearrs. Thumbs up.

A voice worth all the silk in China
What happened to the wizard of the saddle
Honestly I thought you guys used AI voice over because Fred's voice and cadence sounds just like Dan Carlin!

Merch please??:))
Wow His voice is wonderful but no offence...but the Gentleman looks more Mature for His voice.... Brilliant...
A pseudo-dramatic bark distracts from a good narrative.

Horrible take. That man takes me back in time with his storytelling. I love listening to him.
It's Leutze. And I think your opinion is in the minority, to be kind.
Anyone narrating other than Fred would not have drawn me in to their channel and podcast. To me, his voice is soothing and engaging to hear.
Hey mate, big fan of your work. You put Indy Neidell to shame. Greetings from Australia.
