- We finally manage to get the rest of the oak frame up.
FYI: Alex embarks on ambitious building projects. Whereas most builders rely on proven skills and experience, Alex prefers a potentially calamatous combination of optimism and youtube-based research.
You are an inspiration. If ever anyone feels down they should watch your channel cause you are so inspiring. Thanks from Grant in Tauranga New Zealand
What a nice comment! Really appreciate it and glad you enjoyed it
Hello from Penza, Russia.
A very interesting project!
Cheers - making progress! 😀
Incredible job, starting with no real experience in building and then seeing how you exceed and learn. Chapeau! (Hoechst, Austria)

"Let's hope it makes it through the night!" 😂😂🤣
I think that barn will be there for many, many nights. I just hope the generations of owners appreciate it was built by one man.
This has been an unbelievable build to watch. I happened across the videos from a stone arch build search. Now I just want to see it through completion.
I am enjoying (and nervously at times) watching from Chicago. ❤

Scary stuff, Alex. We have just built a cabin shed and barn all timberframe. Not easy. We also milled all the timbers from the property. I commend your efforts
Sounds lovely. Bet it was better crafted than my effort! Thanks for watching 😀

Great job, Brighton Michigan
Cheers Steve appreciated 😀
Love this series, I've learned a lot - Will Santa Cruz, California
Greets from Surgut, Russia!
I'm Alex too :)
Good progress, nice looking barn
Totally agree with all comments below - nobody has reason to complain about squat in comparison to the hurdles you're facing with this one. With as much character as this build is developing into, I hope this "Barn" will actually end up as the Ultimate Man-Cave and Wine/Spirits Cellar or something. Goodness, this is remarkable watching it all unfold. Looking forward to the next. Again, Cheers from Ribeira Brava, Madeira - Portugal.
love the build! aussie living in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Cheers Rob - appreciated 😀
Great Videos! I have much fun!
Greetings from Stuttgart, Germany!
Glad you like them! Appreciate the comment
Been enjoying this build a lot. Lots of diligence and persistence in the face of large difficulty. I love watching oak building techniques, reminds me of family in Dorset. Good onya from Perth, Western Australia
We’re getting there! Thanks for watching and stay cool in that heat!
Greetings from Finland! Mighty nice build!
Thanks - much appreciated
Hi Alex, first video here. I am currently building a tiny house for my daughter on my channel (we both have the same amount of subs!), but I love videos of people building things - especially by themselves, it takes a lot more ingenuity that way - and I love timber frames. I need to go back to the beginning and see what this place looked like then. Keep up the good work, and greetings from DeSoto, WI USA.
Greetings from Karlskoga Sweden.
Cheers for watching 😀
Greetings from Odense, Denmark 👍
Thanks for watching 👍
Nicely done. I am from Germany close to Ingolstadt. A town called Geisenfeld.
Not far from Munich - a place I have been to many times! Thanks for watching 😀
G'day Alex, it's amazing what you have achieved by yourself. Mike Canberra 🇦🇺
G'day yourself and thanks for watching. We're getting there! 😀
Alex, really great job, it's all coming together mate.
Plenty of room for that trophy cabinet.
Oh yes we could fit a few in there - just need to bloody win one! 😀😀
Hello from the Puget Sound in Western Washington State, USA. I’m very impressed. I enjoy watching all the chateau restoration and the unique way things were built, back in the day. With all the modern equipment you are making good progress. Could you imagine doing this without it! The manpower alone they needed to build the chateaus, etc. keep up the good work!
I’ve been to Kirkland many times so know the Puget Sound! Thanks for watching and nice to hear from you 😀
I enjoy watching your building come together, from Seattle, Washington State, USA. Best regards!
Lovely part of the world, been many times
Gday mate, watching you work is just like watching myself…. Doesn’t always go to plan but eventually we get the desired result 👍🏾🇦🇺 Kym from Adelaide Sth. Australia
Exactly - we keep plodding on 😀
Great job! I really admire you for taking on such a task! Cheers från Trundön (Isle of Trund), Rosvik, Sweden
Thank you very much! Making progress now 😀
Hi from Pensacola Florida!

Hello from Skarzysko-Kamienna, Poland :)
Looks amazing! This is a really nice story.
Greetings from Königs Wusterhausen near Berlin, Germany
Glad you are enjoying it. Thanks for watching 😀
Outstanding job Alex! And glad you didn’t have to work in a total ark-worthy rainstorm.
Watching from Montreal canada!
Follow you with great interest. Dabbling myself in timberbuilding but not in oak.
Best from Alexander in Sweden
That's where I started - a bit of pine. Green oak is interesting, but seriously heavy, I couldn't believe it when I first bought some 😀
Hi Mate, big hello from Tumbi Umbi Australia, cheers.
Good workman..from south island new zealand
Very generous! 😀
Enjoy the videos from Trenton, New Jersey, USA.
Glad you like them! Best wishes
I'd welcome the English Rain right now, it's been in the -30s for the past week here in Calgary Alberta
The comments from down under at +40 make me jealous - but not yours! 🥶
Hi from Brian in Hermanus in the Western Cape in South Africa. Amazing build.
Cheers Brian - appreciated 😀
I’m watching from Brisbane in Queensland, Australia and no, your Aussie accent is not offensive at all. I think Aussies love to hear attempts :)
It looks great
Cheers mate 😀
Looking good 👍
Cheers Bryan 😀
Was a timber framer for over 30 years and never felt the need to use a reciprocating saw except for demolition maybe .😅
🤣🤣 Can't argue with that... I think I'm going to feature this comment in my next episode!
Hello from Ivanovo, Russia.
Hello from USA - Lake Oswego, Oregon, to be exact. Right next to Portland, Oregon. If you like professional basketball, home of the Portland Trailblazer and the pro soccer team (Timbers) - sorry, football team on your side of the pond. Love your videos!
Cheers Jamie - nice part of the world - used to visit Washington State quite a bit 😀
Very good.
Steve, from Yorktown, Virginia. Congratulations on the milestone! I'm sure you're glad you won't be driving the telehandler through your archway anymore! I kept telling the screen that you could have placed a floating tenon on the center support and also that it looked like too much debris in the right side tenon. All in all it is up and nobody but yourself and us church mice have any idea on any "character" marks you've created.
Yes well said - it's big oak not antique funriture! Cheers for watching
With the lower wood waterlogged and swollen that may have something to do with not fitting perfectly. Just a thought.
Brit ex pat, now oz citizen based in Perth WA . Been watching for ages!
Aussie Gold Hunters territory - a future Alex Builds series god willing! 😀
this is excellent! well done. (gloucestershire, uk)
Thank you! Cheers!
Great stone work mate ,steve Sète 34200 south France
Nice barn. I seems like it would have been safer to get to the top of arch before pulling the form out, but I guess you proved it wasn't necessary. Why didn't you use a "bit of wood" when you were setting the back side purlin, you could have got it exactly where you wanted on the first try. That little green forklift is really cute too, I've never seen one like that. Good work that people will be around for people to appreciate for many years. Sacramento, CA USA.
Hi Alex, try suspending a weight (small sand bag) underneath your camera tripod as a counter balance. Might help save your lenses. Cracking videos.
Stuart in Robin Hood's Nottingham
Okay, THIS was a long time comin'! Your tenacity is beyond amazing. As I put this entirely into perspective, I realize you've been working entirely alone, AND lining up cameras for the best views, while wrestling massive, heavy timbers into place (and finding and fixing some annoying mistakes). I am well and properly impressed, down here in Mobile, Alabama, USA (just noticed your map thing today). Soldier on, you legend!
Cheers Crusty - I really appreciate that. And you're right, doing the camerawork does add to the effort! 😀
Legendary build! Congrats on the progress!
So many questions... but I'll just start with one: how long had you planned this build prior to starting? Drawings, material lists, crazy thoughts??
Asking because I'm still in the "procuring tools and crazy thoughts" stage on my greenhouse build 😂
Hi there... good question! I built a nice balcony on my house 5yrs ago in oak and pinched the design from youtube, all done with no experience. Afterwards I thought I really should have filmed that... I think I was then watching an episode of a programme over here called Escape to the Chateau and the old boy called Dick had this really nice barn / workshop. So I think I decided there and then, I'm going to build a massive barn and film it! Slightly paraphrasing, but as you will have seen in episode 2 or 3 with that test wall, I really had no idea what I was taking on.
Looking back on it I was out of my mind - but just goes to show - crack on and give it a go!
Cheers again & thanks for the support! 😀
@@AlexBuildsUK appreciate the info and advice. Perhaps I'll get back into the photog game and film my shenanigans with my greenhouse?? Well done for "dropping a shoulder" and leaning into it! The progress is truly inspirational as is your attitude about cock-ups! Hey, they happen to the best of us right? Learn from it and keep moving forward 🍻
Cheers again, wish I lived closer to lend a hand.
Well you'd have been most welcome! Yes you should film it - 3yrs ago I had no building skills, didn't own a camera and had no video editing skills. Sometimes you've just got to put yourself out there and go for it!
It's a great job, my friend! Considering that everything was done by one person - worthy of respect👍🏻 I'm watching your work from Russia, Domodedovo. and please do not use the white flag😊
Abdou from blida algeria
Saint Louis, Missouri, USA.
Cheers for watching 😀
Please, put a flag in Siberian city Novosibirsk, I live here and watch your videous - they are amaising!
Bet it's cold up there! Thanks for watching
You’re missing a pin in Ireland. {waving hello from Dublin} 😅
How do the perlins get attached?
That particular health and safety nightmare will be covered in Episode 29 🤣🤣
Any flag in Brazil? Watching from Maceió, Brazil. Amazing work!
That drain hole is too small. It'll get plugged with crud over the years Alex. I'd ream it out a few sizes bigger. 1/2" maybe?
Alternatively, make a block sized to fill the space and glue it in place bedded in something sticky and gooey like tar.
Good point although it will be inside the barn when I eventually get some side panels and a roof on it!
Would you like to put a peg in for Germany, Lüneburg? Daniel.
Looks...stable....run if it moves.....do not run on the muddy spot..ok..?
First comment! You go Alex!!!
Second! Cheers mate appreciated
I miss a flag in 🇳🇱 Holland
What does this guy think it is? 1785?
A great year 🤣🤣
Can you add a green flag for Ireland too please? Thanks
Only a matter of time! 😀
Gravity is NOT YOUR FRIEND.....
OH MY
Mate, did you really just say, 'Truss me"?
great series so far, really enjoying it! feel free to pin me on the map, i am from copenhagen, denmark.
No flag in Finland. Kokkola.
Fernando from São Paulo-Brazil here, 📍📍📍pin 🇧🇷 please 😄😃
🤔 😅 🤣 Modern Day Power Tools Still Cut Wrong 🤦♂
