I am an American living in Nha Trang, Vietnam. I have lived and taught English in HCM and Hanoi area for the past 8 years. I retired in Nha Trang but still teach online. I have a temporary resident card that expires in January 2023. I plan to renew it then. I have not had a problem with immigration or the police.
Unearned income is taxed Earned income has a tax credit goes up to about 110k. USA is one of a few countries that taxes citizens living in foreign countries.
I left Vietnam just before the Lunar New Year 2020 and was so disappointed to be trapped in the UK and unable to get back to Vietnam to teach or see my daughter in Thailand.... but now, i feel it was a blessing in disguise. Insightful vids on the latest VN news. I hope to return next year.

What type of vista you got one i got last me fir 5 years and renewable for 100 for full year. There two type vacational vista only good for 1 to 3 months only and renewable for few extra months at time. And work vista goid for 5 years on that and 100 to renewable for 1 years or open Vista good too but you had contact the Vietnamese Embassy in California get those. Not travel agency they only do vacation vista only for 1 or 3 months. Because i been through that and lucky i apply for work vista then vacation vista i end up staying there for 2 years
Expelling Retirees who have been in Vietnam for the last 15 years is very unfair. It's not as if these people are going to bring Covid into the country. Plus Vietnam has enjoyed their money for 15 years.

UPDATE: The US consulate in HCMC is now accepting emergency appointments. You can also pay an agent to get a police check from the justice department more quickly apparently. Also, to clarify, people currently working on legal work permits right now are not affected. It’s just some people switching between jobs that are being affected at the moment. The switching business visa sponsor fee of 15m dong may not always apply. It seems to be on a case by case bases and related to what part of the country you’re in. amazing man- this is the first time Ive seen my life (the last 2 years!!) explained reasonably clearly. Looking back 6 months , this video was pretty optimistic but we need to be, right! Im still battling with all this, I have got aaaallllllllll those documents (you know exactly what I mean) for WP /TRC - 4x, yes that's right 4x (say 10mvnd+ each time), usually schools said dont worry, no need, then i was married here with the TRC, so schools were even more reluctant. Then the WP process stopped in covid, and then and then and then. Ive been here 8 years, now Im overstayed as I wait a few weeks for the inevitable glitches coming from the Depatrment of Labour, espeeeeecially in Da NAng, where I am and where you filmed this. Theres one huge point you didnt cover and also maybe the Vietnamese government also missed this catch 22 situation : I moved to pleiku, 18 months ago.... because Im clever, I saw all this coming, haha. Then covid hit 2 weeks later (work permits were not processed , only 3 month school business visas). I moved to Pleiku from Da Nang for a real job with a real visa. Even since moving back to Da Nang, schools "pretended to process a WP", I would quit once the jig was up. THE PROBLEM WAS, GOV STOPPED THE WP PROCESS, BORDERS AND SCHOOLS SHUT- CANT LEAVE, CANT STAY... I THIS THATS HOW THE GOOD PEOPLE, LIKE ME , ENDED UP ON THESE SKETCHY VISAS: NO WP PROCESS, NO BUSINESS EXTENSION, NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE, NOT ALLOWED TO GO BACK TO TOURIST VISA. Theres actually been no option..... how did those agents get away with it?! I just paid 20m vnd to Hanoi a few months ago in Directive 16 (15+5m for a 3 month business visa) to convert the sketchy visa to a sponsored one. Then Directive 16 (zero movement and travel to anywhere too long) , locked into that school, you really cant make this stuff up!!!!!! You've done an amazing job in this video. Im overstayed, schools dont know what to do ( iget jobs, we get along, they cant get the visa through), immigration doesnt know how to advise me, now vaccination rules are different in each place. I really tried to do everything properly, im a pretty good teacher with 8 years experience. Seriously exhausted, thanks again. I was just evicted due to visa expiry ( before D16 was moved due to illegal building and no police paper) Now Im in contact with schools in Vinh and Binh Duong after Danang school applications are being rejected on tiny technicalities. I love Vietnam, lived here a good part of my life, had a wife, had a lot of great friends, disappointing to end it like this for sure. Which other country can you just waltz in with a tourist visa and just stay as long as you want? Vietnam just decided to legalize itself finally. It was a unique utopia but lets not start feeling sorry for people that worked here without any papers. The same would happen anywhere else in the world. As for businesses..., local business are doing just fine as they rely on local people mostly. Vietnamese are opening huge bars and having crowds, the ones that will go down under are foreign opened businesses that do rely on tourists or people missing home. But as a whole i hardly believe any of this affected Vietnams economy. Losing 10.000 ppl that paid $150 every 3 months is nothing compared to how many investors are pumping billions into the country. What we are entering in is the new age Vietnam and this is exactly what happened to Thailand 7-8 years ago.

@@nikephoros3939 Just because certain countries dont need a visa (very much depending on your passport), doesnt mean you dont get stamped once you land in your passport or that you can just stay as long as you want and set up a new life. If the customs see that you overstayed, you will never be allowed in the country again. I worked for an airline for 6 years, wtf are you talking about that most countries dont need visas??? China, Taiwan, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Mongolia, Bhutan, whole of US....what are you talking about. Sure if you have a US passport you dont need to "APPLY" for a visa but you will get registered in customs with a time limit of 1 or 3 month stay max. A Temporary Residence Card is a visa "exemption", the opposite of a visa! No restrictions on entries and exits for the 3 years as long as your passport is valid.
@@donman1727 Visa Exemption Certificates (VEC) and TRCs not valid until the border opens. Even if you are married to a citizen. Currently only Vietnamese citizens, diplomats, factory experts can enter after lengthy application/approval and quarantine process.

Too long? Another foreigner that can't think. You're only in Vietnam as old as your most recent visa. The latest visa is legally how long you've been in the country. No matter if you have had 37 tourist visas. They're all different.
A lot of them are finding that they don't meet the new foreign expert requirements. The days of the begpacker are coming to an end. Foreign experts now need a degree in a relevant discipline and 3 or more years of experience.
Interesting. I taught English as a Foreign Language in 1966 at the Hoi-Viet My located in Cho Lon. I was a soldier stationed at Tan Son Nhat AFB but with four years of college, and fluent in Vietnamese. I then taught English once a week for a few months in Hue in 1967 to teachers at the Quoc Hoc School in Hue. All enjoyable experiences. I was paid for the Hoi-Viet My work but not for the Hue work. Later I researched the economy of ancient Champa for an M.A. in geography and then had a 37 year career doing environmental assessment in the U.S.

Yes you are a tourist if you're on a tourist visa, it's not up to you to decide only a tourist should be in Vietnam for 2 weeks. The only issue here is that the borders are all closed so people can't go out and come back in to get a new stamp. The tourists given the XC on their extension are just unlucky that the borders are closed is all, otherwise they could get a new stamp.

Well, I guess I'm glad I haven't finished my degree yet. I started studying because of covid and then I heard about the opportunity to teach English in Vietnam, I'm really interested in doing it but it looks like everything might work out for the best if I have to wait a few years.
Yes especially since Alex didn't touch on the rule which has been in place for a long time (2013 ?) that is also being enforced now where you not only need a degree but also 3yrs work related experience outside of Vietnam or no degree but 5yrs work related experience. This has affected many as well. I read about a woman who has a degree (in education no less) however she only has 1 yr of work related experience outside of Vietnam. She will also have to leave after living and working as a teacher in Vietnam for 7 years!
If you have a few years it’s better to become a qualified teacher in your own country. You will get much better jobs in international schools than in Esl language centres.
Thanks for the video update. It explains things well given the rapid changes that are occurring during the pandemic. Let's hope the vaccinations speed up so the country can open again for tourists and folks wanting to come over to teach. I think things will get better later this year.
Vietnam has good law and boarder and crack down immigrants problem and there vista. Vietnam is actually becoming best place to live and moving up the community ladder most people dont know about Vietnam there not alot of restrictions or business laws at all. What you make per day your take home pay just say i made 12 million a year that what you keep because there no corporate taxes or restrictions its not America where you got alot of restrictions and corporate taxes. Dont believe me why most businesses are fleeing to Vietnam and more and more company are coming to Vietnam i know because im moving my company to Vietnam in progress. Its small % of taxes they take out not much, But apply for permanent residency if you want stay in Vietnam
Truth is the vulnerable 1% of people who are high risk of death would have been vaccinated by now and the world would be back to normal if the pandemic was being genuinely managed. Hello. When I was in Vietnam in 2019, I got 3 months visa every time I wanted. Will it be the case after covid over ? I heard rumors who said that after covid tourists will get only 1 month visa...
@@israelstreetstories675 Why? Its pretty normal that a lot of countries give only a 1 month tourist visa. Actually id think most tourists dont have the luxury to take a 3 month trip due to work. Also, all you have to do is take a $20 bus ride to Cambodia and come back and you can stay again another month.

I extended easily twice but I have a Master's in Ed and 25 years experience. Overseas since 1988 in about ten countries, and was able to deal with immigration everywhere including Vietnam. My school handled everything for me.

You can contact local Vietnamese travelers agency or Vietnamese Embassy they one do vista and information on travels but ask them there 5 years vista and renewable ones not vacation vista that where people end up doing and making that mistake. Just verified everything before you travel anywhere, and Vietnam there so many beautiful destinations and location you can go durning a pandemic.

The idea of allowing people on tourist visa to stay was that they would be given time to arrange transport home. They are starting to ask the obvious questions. How are you making money? Are you working illegally? Why have you been here for 12 months on a 3 month visa? Weren't you going home before then anyway? I doubt very much you would get such leeway on a tourist visa on many countries. Some people are being "Creative" with visas, especially agents and are getting people long term visas that are not really applicable. Fake marriage visa extensions for example, but business visas as well. They are checking everyone. If you are doing the right thing you will be fine. If not, if you get caught you may be treated more harshly.

Update, as of today, June 27, there 15400 cases and in 6 months, the death toll has risen from 35 to 75 people. Visas are easier here still than most other countries.
You didnt mention that they want to make sure people are really experts in their field. If you have a history degree and never taught english, that wont fly, also people with a liberal arts degree trying to get a job as a chef or in construction. You should be working at the job you have applied for.
I don't know if I agree with the idea that you must have a degree in English to teach English to Asian kids. In South Africa if you have a bachelors degree in anything, you can still teach English up to primary school level as a first language. I came to South Korea with a Management degree to escape office life. Loved it. Stayed, studied teaching, and now own my own school. I would never have had the chance if the government blocked me from even getting started.
Totally agree. The majority of these foreign so called "native" tefl and tesol boys and girls were cleaning toilets in Australia or jobless in England before moving to Asia, earning 5 times as much as the local teachers who possess a university degree. Japan has already filtered out these individuals years ago. Vietnam is fanally waking up.
TEFL is very different from teaching English to native English speakers. The approach is completely different. Also, expertise is not a simple matter of credentials. People change careers and often come from places you'd least expect.
@@terminaldeity Ultimately its what Vietnam decides is appropriate. We can hem and haw all day...but the country decides whats best for their needs. They released a directive back in May that was a warning to what was coming.
Don't see why this would be such bad news. We can all just stay in our own countries and help ourselves grow and get stronger instead. Foreign countries are better off being visited only.
That makes sense except for the fact many of the expats were likely losers in their country, that's why they came abroad where no one knows them and they'll come across as all that for being a foreigner to begin with.

Hi like the information, can you please assist me on my situation, I am married to a Vietnamese lady and we left the country for a holiday last year January. Covid started and she overstayed in the foreign country and could return and poor me, foreigner, got the short end of the straw. Perhaps you can update me, do you know if I will be allowed back into Vietnam in the near future? I received my first vaccine jab and will be receiving the next within weeks. I had a temporary residence permit which expired the end of May this year. I sent some emails in regards to my dilemma but they never seem to respond to it. Regards, like you contents.
I think the most targetted group of foreigner of this new rule is the illegal Chinese immigrants who want to pass the bound to come the industrial zones to get jobs in Chinese/ Taiwanese companies without paying income tax, especially in northern region. Many Chinese people entried without permit were caught by the police in these months. Then, I think people from western and developed countries should not worry to much about this matter.
I lived in HCMC for 7 yrs. You need to leave? Hop on bus and go to Sianookville😼. Go to the Viet Embassy, lay down some $$, Ba Bing you’ve got a year Visa! Honestly, you need Vietnamese connections to get things done.
They are not renewing work permits for those that do not match the standards. They checked everyone’s work permits again. Those without degrees have to go, those without the suitable degrees that support what they are teaching have to go, etc.
The Vietnamese government officials are mostly high school dropouts with fake college degrees and can barely speak English so how can they verify that your credentials are legit or not?
@@ccie4101 I don’t know 🤷🏼♀️ one of my friend’s has a degree in education and hasn’t been approved for a work permit. It’s absolutely bizarre and very sad, she has lived here for over ten years. Apparently it’s done by a scan system, if your degree isn’t on that list...you are out.

It might be possible to get into China - I’ve seen some English teaching jobs being advertised - but I’ve also been told by people there that they can’t leave. Not sure why that is.

Been here for a while now but Im out this month after many flt cancellations. Must admit they make it very hard to live here with no retirement visa, Im retired and only 49yo but I spend millions of local $ here and they really need it now. They will come round when they continually see other countries like Thai and Philippines making lots of $, I will come back when it's easier with visas.

Hi Alex, first time I have seen one of your videos, and I can relate to everything you have mentioned, come this 4th July, I will have been here in Vietnam 8 years. 7 of which I worked for a UK manufacturer in the garment industry. Come covid and jobs lost, I found myself without employment this past year. I am a UK Native, and the various things that came my way last year amounted to little. Recently i thought about teaching, I am afterall a UK native, but not a teacher, I decided 6 weeks ago to enrol into a Vietnamese class, learning Vietnamese, and its difficult, (but nodoby said it was going to be easy,) in doing so, I was hoping I may get an edge with future employers seaking native english, and knowing Vietnamese can only help me. You mentioned a certificate in your video, a TESOL or TELSA was it?, I am interested in going forward with teaching, but I need to learn how to teach first, and learning Vietnamese is actually opening my eyes as to how difficult my own language is to learn, it is helping me. There are loads of certs out there of varying quality and price. Make sure that what you invest your time and money in the one that gets you where you want to go. Do your homework on the awarding body because there a lots of chancers in that game. The most widely respected English teaching cert is the Cambridge CELTA followed by the Trinity TESOL. Some will say they are overrated/priced / not required/ but that's for you to decide.
Basically, about 90% to 95% of Al non Vietnamese citizens and Farangs especially need to go back home to their own countries and leave Vietnam until the Vietnam people, or government decides otherwise. Seems logical and fair enough.
There is an easy tip to renew your visa. For some foreigners, they just simply go through border of Vietnam, such as you travel to Cambodia then get back and your visa renewed. The bad thing that you might have to be quarantined for 21 or 14 days. Simple right !
This is a crazy idea. The border is closed and foreigners are not allowed in, all foreigners are banned because all foreigners have covid according to state run TV, and it's only a 30 day visa, so 21 days in quarantine for a 30 day visa?

30 days is not at all a short period of time to leave. I just left for personal issues and had the decision made Tuesday and left on the Saturday night.
@@RockDavid I think it's like this everywhere. In 2019 I was in the USA for an internship. The Covid-19 arrived at that state and they had to shut down. My host company and visa sponsor asked me to leave within 3 days. I managed to pack, finish the paper work and left within 2 days.
Regarding those who arrived on Tourist Visas AFTER 01 March, 2020 (and only those), the automatic visa extension is now valid until the end of July, according to official sources on the internet. 😁
There are also married Expats who didn’t think to get a TRC card or put it off for to long like me who have been living here on TT visa’s only And I’ve extended my TT visa to many times with out a TRC and with Vietnam finally updating ID cards to where they work the same as not just ID’s but also family books Getting the Document from the police for my was to apply for my TRC CARD is taking to long and it might be to late for me to get the TRC card so I’ll have to go home But I really should have gotten the TRC card after Vietnam made Marriage TRC Cards work permit exempt It was dump for me to not do but my end goal was to bring my wife to the USA anyway so I guess it doesn’t matter plus with Covid I don’t think I can work anyway So I should really just go home and prep for my wife to join me in the USA Or at least get a job and earn money to where if USCIS says no to my wife’s visa I can come back with money to get a SUV and build a house To where living long term in Vietnam worth with
I am an American living in Nha Trang, Vietnam. I have lived and taught English in HCM and Hanoi area for the past 8 years. I retired in Nha Trang but still teach online. I have a temporary resident card that expires in January 2023. I plan to renew it then. I have not had a problem with immigration or the police.

What type of vista you got one i got last me fir 5 years and renewable for 100 for full year. There two type vacational vista only good for 1 to 3 months only and renewable for few extra months at time. And work vista goid for 5 years on that and 100 to renewable for 1 years or open Vista good too but you had contact the Vietnamese Embassy in California get those. Not travel agency they only do vacation vista only for 1 or 3 months. Because i been through that and lucky i apply for work vista then vacation vista i end up staying there for 2 years

UPDATE: The US consulate in HCMC is now accepting emergency appointments. You can also pay an agent to get a police check from the justice department more quickly apparently. Also, to clarify, people currently working on legal work permits right now are not affected. It’s just some people switching between jobs that are being affected at the moment. The switching business visa sponsor fee of 15m dong may not always apply. It seems to be on a case by case bases and related to what part of the country you’re in. Here what's covered in the video:

amazing man- this is the first time Ive seen my life (the last 2 years!!) explained reasonably clearly. Looking back 6 months , this video was pretty optimistic but we need to be, right! Im still battling with all this, I have got aaaallllllllll those documents (you know exactly what I mean) for WP /TRC - 4x, yes that's right 4x (say 10mvnd+ each time), usually schools said dont worry, no need, then i was married here with the TRC, so schools were even more reluctant. Then the WP process stopped in covid, and then and then and then. Ive been here 8 years, now Im overstayed as I wait a few weeks for the inevitable glitches coming from the Depatrment of Labour, espeeeeecially in Da NAng, where I am and where you filmed this. Theres one huge point you didnt cover and also maybe the Vietnamese government also missed this catch 22 situation : I moved to pleiku, 18 months ago.... because Im clever, I saw all this coming, haha. Then covid hit 2 weeks later (work permits were not processed , only 3 month school business visas). I moved to Pleiku from Da Nang for a real job with a real visa. Even since moving back to Da Nang, schools "pretended to process a WP", I would quit once the jig was up. THE PROBLEM WAS, GOV STOPPED THE WP PROCESS, BORDERS AND SCHOOLS SHUT- CANT LEAVE, CANT STAY... I THIS THATS HOW THE GOOD PEOPLE, LIKE ME , ENDED UP ON THESE SKETCHY VISAS: NO WP PROCESS, NO BUSINESS EXTENSION, NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE, NOT ALLOWED TO GO BACK TO TOURIST VISA. Theres actually been no option..... how did those agents get away with it?! I just paid 20m vnd to Hanoi a few months ago in Directive 16 (15+5m for a 3 month business visa) to convert the sketchy visa to a sponsored one. Then Directive 16 (zero movement and travel to anywhere too long) , locked into that school, you really cant make this stuff up!!!!!! You've done an amazing job in this video. Im overstayed, schools dont know what to do ( iget jobs, we get along, they cant get the visa through), immigration doesnt know how to advise me, now vaccination rules are different in each place. I really tried to do everything properly, im a pretty good teacher with 8 years experience. Seriously exhausted, thanks again. I was just evicted due to visa expiry ( before D16 was moved due to illegal building and no police paper) Now Im in contact with schools in Vinh and Binh Duong after Danang school applications are being rejected on tiny technicalities. I love Vietnam, lived here a good part of my life, had a wife, had a lot of great friends, disappointing to end it like this for sure. Which other country can you just waltz in with a tourist visa and just stay as long as you want? Vietnam just decided to legalize itself finally. It was a unique utopia but lets not start feeling sorry for people that worked here without any papers. The same would happen anywhere else in the world. As for businesses..., local business are doing just fine as they rely on local people mostly. Vietnamese are opening huge bars and having crowds, the ones that will go down under are foreign opened businesses that do rely on tourists or people missing home. But as a whole i hardly believe any of this affected Vietnams economy. Losing 10.000 ppl that paid $150 every 3 months is nothing compared to how many investors are pumping billions into the country. What we are entering in is the new age Vietnam and this is exactly what happened to Thailand 7-8 years ago.

Literally almost every country in the world outside of the EU. In fact, most countries don't even require a tourist visa in the first place, since you can enter on an exemption.
@@nikephoros3939 Just because certain countries dont need a visa (very much depending on your passport), doesnt mean you dont get stamped once you land in your passport or that you can just stay as long as you want and set up a new life. If the customs see that you overstayed, you will never be allowed in the country again.

A Temporary Residence Card is a visa "exemption", the opposite of a visa! No restrictions on entries and exits for the 3 years as long as your passport is valid.

@@donman1727 Visa Exemption Certificates (VEC) and TRCs not valid until the border opens. Even if you are married to a citizen. Currently only Vietnamese citizens, diplomats, factory experts can enter after lengthy application/approval and quarantine process.

Too long? Another foreigner that can't think. You're only in Vietnam as old as your most recent visa. The latest visa is legally how long you've been in the country. No matter if you have had 37 tourist visas. They're all different.

A lot of them are finding that they don't meet the new foreign expert requirements. The days of the begpacker are coming to an end. Foreign experts now need a degree in a relevant discipline and 3 or more years of experience.
Interesting. I taught English as a Foreign Language in 1966 at the Hoi-Viet My located in Cho Lon. I was a soldier stationed at Tan Son Nhat AFB but with four years of college, and fluent in Vietnamese. I then taught English once a week for a few months in Hue in 1967 to teachers at the Quoc Hoc School in Hue. All enjoyable experiences. I was paid for the Hoi-Viet My work but not for the Hue work. Later I researched the economy of ancient Champa for an M.A. in geography and then had a 37 year career doing environmental assessment in the U.S.

The important thing to take away from this is that you aren't a tourist if you are staying somewhere several months or even years.
Yes you are a tourist if you're on a tourist visa, it's not up to you to decide only a tourist should be in Vietnam for 2 weeks. The only issue here is that the borders are all closed so people can't go out and come back in to get a new stamp. The tourists given the XC on their extension are just unlucky that the borders are closed is all, otherwise they could get a new stamp.

Well, I guess I'm glad I haven't finished my degree yet. I started studying because of covid and then I heard about the opportunity to teach English in Vietnam, I'm really interested in doing it but it looks like everything might work out for the best if I have to wait a few years.
Yes especially since Alex didn't touch on the rule which has been in place for a long time (2013 ?) that is also being enforced now where you not only need a degree but also 3yrs work related experience outside of Vietnam or no degree but 5yrs work related experience. This has affected many as well. I read about a woman who has a degree (in education no less) however she only has 1 yr of work related experience outside of Vietnam. She will also have to leave after living and working as a teacher in Vietnam for 7 years!

If you have a few years it’s better to become a qualified teacher in your own country. You will get much better jobs in international schools than in Esl language centres.

Vietnam has good law and boarder and crack down immigrants problem and there vista. Vietnam is actually becoming best place to live and moving up the community ladder most people dont know about Vietnam there not alot of restrictions or business laws at all. What you make per day your take home pay just say i made 12 million a year that what you keep because there no corporate taxes or restrictions its not America where you got alot of restrictions and corporate taxes. Dont believe me why most businesses are fleeing to Vietnam and more and more company are coming to Vietnam i know because im moving my company to Vietnam in progress. Its small % of taxes they take out not much, But apply for permanent residency if you want stay in Vietnam

Truth is the vulnerable 1% of people who are high risk of death would have been vaccinated by now and the world would be back to normal if the pandemic was being genuinely managed.

I extended easily twice but I have a Master's in Ed and 25 years experience. Overseas since 1988 in about ten countries, and was able to deal with immigration everywhere including Vietnam. My school handled everything for me.

You can contact local Vietnamese travelers agency or Vietnamese Embassy they one do vista and information on travels but ask them there 5 years vista and renewable ones not vacation vista that where people end up doing and making that mistake. Just verified everything before you travel anywhere, and Vietnam there so many beautiful destinations and location you can go durning a pandemic.

The idea of allowing people on tourist visa to stay was that they would be given time to arrange transport home. They are starting to ask the obvious questions. How are you making money? Are you working illegally? Why have you been here for 12 months on a 3 month visa? Weren't you going home before then anyway? I doubt very much you would get such leeway on a tourist visa on many countries. Some people are being "Creative" with visas, especially agents and are getting people long term visas that are not really applicable. Fake marriage visa extensions for example, but business visas as well. They are checking everyone. If you are doing the right thing you will be fine. If not, if you get caught you may be treated more harshly.

Update, as of today, June 27, there 15400 cases and in 6 months, the death toll has risen from 35 to 75 people. Visas are easier here still than most other countries.
You didnt mention that they want to make sure people are really experts in their field. If you have a history degree and never taught english, that wont fly, also people with a liberal arts degree trying to get a job as a chef or in construction. You should be working at the job you have applied for.
I don't know if I agree with the idea that you must have a degree in English to teach English to Asian kids. In South Africa if you have a bachelors degree in anything, you can still teach English up to primary school level as a first language. I came to South Korea with a Management degree to escape office life. Loved it. Stayed, studied teaching, and now own my own school. I would never have had the chance if the government blocked me from even getting started.
Totally agree. The majority of these foreign so called "native" tefl and tesol boys and girls were cleaning toilets in Australia or jobless in England before moving to Asia, earning 5 times as much as the local teachers who possess a university degree. Japan has already filtered out these individuals years ago. Vietnam is fanally waking up.
TEFL is very different from teaching English to native English speakers. The approach is completely different. Also, expertise is not a simple matter of credentials. People change careers and often come from places you'd least expect.
@@terminaldeity Ultimately its what Vietnam decides is appropriate. We can hem and haw all day...but the country decides whats best for their needs. They released a directive back in May that was a warning to what was coming.
A degree in TESOL is required to teach ESL in the U.S. There's no reason why a degree in TESOL shouldn't also be required to teach EFL in Vietnam.
That's why I've moved to Yemen now.

That makes sense except for the fact many of the expats were likely losers in their country, that's why they came abroad where no one knows them and they'll come across as all that for being a foreigner to begin with.

Hi like the information, can you please assist me on my situation, I am married to a Vietnamese lady and we left the country for a holiday last year January. Covid started and she overstayed in the foreign country and could return and poor me, foreigner, got the short end of the straw. Perhaps you can update me, do you know if I will be allowed back into Vietnam in the near future? I received my first vaccine jab and will be receiving the next within weeks. I had a temporary residence permit which expired the end of May this year. I sent some emails in regards to my dilemma but they never seem to respond to it. Regards, like you contents.
I don't think spouse visa is available at the moment. The news says vaccine visa might be applied in July. Government is studying it.

I think the most targetted group of foreigner of this new rule is the illegal Chinese immigrants who want to pass the bound to come the industrial zones to get jobs in Chinese/ Taiwanese companies without paying income tax, especially in northern region. Many Chinese people entried without permit were caught by the police in these months. Then, I think people from western and developed countries should not worry to much about this matter.
I lived in HCMC for 7 yrs. You need to leave? Hop on bus and go to Sianookville😼. Go to the Viet Embassy, lay down some $$, Ba Bing you’ve got a year Visa! Honestly, you need Vietnamese connections to get things done.
They are not renewing work permits for those that do not match the standards. They checked everyone’s work permits again. Those without degrees have to go, those without the suitable degrees that support what they are teaching have to go, etc.
The Vietnamese government officials are mostly high school dropouts with fake college degrees and can barely speak English so how can they verify that your credentials are legit or not?
@@ccie4101 I don’t know 🤷🏼♀️ one of my friend’s has a degree in education and hasn’t been approved for a work permit. It’s absolutely bizarre and very sad, she has lived here for over ten years. Apparently it’s done by a scan system, if your degree isn’t on that list...you are out.

It might be possible to get into China - I’ve seen some English teaching jobs being advertised - but I’ve also been told by people there that they can’t leave. Not sure why that is.

it's about time this happens, lots of no degree foreigners floating around teaching English, having it easy. I mean if i am a parent i want a qualified teacher to teach my kids too. Vietnam needs to do this because they care about their children

Been here for a while now but Im out this month after many flt cancellations. Must admit they make it very hard to live here with no retirement visa, Im retired and only 49yo but I spend millions of local $ here and they really need it now. They will come round when they continually see other countries like Thai and Philippines making lots of $, I will come back when it's easier with visas.

Hi Alex, first time I have seen one of your videos, and I can relate to everything you have mentioned, come this 4th July, I will have been here in Vietnam 8 years. 7 of which I worked for a UK manufacturer in the garment industry. Come covid and jobs lost, I found myself without employment this past year. I am a UK Native, and the various things that came my way last year amounted to little. Recently i thought about teaching, I am afterall a UK native, but not a teacher, I decided 6 weeks ago to enrol into a Vietnamese class, learning Vietnamese, and its difficult, (but nodoby said it was going to be easy,) in doing so, I was hoping I may get an edge with future employers seaking native english, and knowing Vietnamese can only help me. You mentioned a certificate in your video, a TESOL or TELSA was it?, I am interested in going forward with teaching, but I need to learn how to teach first, and learning Vietnamese is actually opening my eyes as to how difficult my own language is to learn, it is helping me. Certificates are no longer necessary. You just need a degree in a relevant discipline.

There are loads of certs out there of varying quality and price. Make sure that what you invest your time and money in the one that gets you where you want to go. Do your homework on the awarding body because there a lots of chancers in that game. The most widely respected English teaching cert is the Cambridge CELTA followed by the Trinity TESOL. Some will say they are overrated/priced / not required/ but that's for you to decide.
Basically, about 90% to 95% of Al non Vietnamese citizens and Farangs especially need to go back home to their own countries and leave Vietnam until the Vietnam people, or government decides otherwise. Seems logical and fair enough.
Technical advisers on intermational development projects are also being deported. That includes World Bank-financed projects.
There is an easy tip to renew your visa. For some foreigners, they just simply go through border of Vietnam, such as you travel to Cambodia then get back and your visa renewed. The bad thing that you might have to be quarantined for 21 or 14 days. Simple right !
This is a crazy idea. The border is closed and foreigners are not allowed in, all foreigners are banned because all foreigners have covid according to state run TV, and it's only a 30 day visa, so 21 days in quarantine for a 30 day visa?

30 days is not at all a short period of time to leave.
I just left for personal issues and had the decision made Tuesday and left on the Saturday night.

It is a short time, if you have a home with many years full of belongings and pets, and / or children.

@@RockDavid I think it's like this everywhere. In 2019 I was in the USA for an internship. The Covid-19 arrived at that state and they had to shut down. My host company and visa sponsor asked me to leave within 3 days. I managed to pack, finish the paper work and left within 2 days.

Regarding those who arrived on Tourist Visas AFTER 01 March, 2020 (and only those), the automatic visa extension is now valid until the end of July, according to official sources on the internet. 😁

There are also married Expats who didn’t think to get a TRC card or put it off for to long like me who have been living here on TT visa’s only
And I’ve extended my TT visa to many times with out a TRC and with Vietnam finally updating ID cards to where they work the same as not just ID’s but also family books
Getting the Document from the police for my was to apply for my TRC CARD is taking to long and it might be to late for me to get the TRC card so I’ll have to go home
But I really should have gotten the TRC card after Vietnam made Marriage TRC Cards work permit exempt
It was dump for me to not do but my end goal was to bring my wife to the USA anyway so I guess it doesn’t matter plus with Covid I don’t think I can work anyway
So I should really just go home and prep for my wife to join me in the USA
