So what can YOU do with only 6 notes?
I'm going to go out on a limb and say this is the coolest drum video ever posted on UA-cam. That was incredible Stephen.
Thank you my friend!
I think this is going to blow up. I was thinking this video had at least a million views then realized it was only posted 8 minutes ago! I'm early!
Indeed you are! Thank you my friend
The best video I've seen on drumming in the last 5 years. Wonderful job.
Thank you my friend
I second that! Amazing.
Rock on brother. I was instantly intrigued by the simple pattern on the practice pad. But then came applying it to all those beautiful drum sets in such various ways, it was like a glimpse of drum heaven.
I've been playing for 30 years now. And yet, you still (!) manage to give me insights into better practice. You're the man.
Thank you!
I'm a total drumming beginner, so much of the technical stuff went right over my head. However, just the concept and execution put the biggest smile on my face. Fantastic video.
That was the goal...to let you see and hear what is possible. You'll get there!

And the winner of the internet today is...*drum roll in a 6 note pattern* STEPHEN!!
Excellent message! Love your approach to drums! 🥁❤️
Spectacular video!!
Thank you very much!!
Bloody brilliant, thank you.
This was really cool!
Very interesting. I'll apply it.
Great video, super creative and fantastic content. Wonderful as always, thank you 💕🙏🥁🙏💕
Thank you!
Absolutely fantastic. Well done. Captivating.
Thanks!
This is a great vid. I shared it with my muso friends....!!!❤
Thanks for the tour 😊
Lol
Another awesome fun video Stephen. I've been away from the kit for too long (learning Korean, or trying to at least). Time I got back on the throne.
Very informative and super cool video!!!!
Thanks!
Thanks!
Loved the Video! Great and Tremendous 🥁
Thanka!
Brilliant!
🤟🏻
Great fast-paced firehose of fill ideas (based on the 6 note pattern)!
🤘🏻
Well this was interesting. Thanks
After watching this, I just created a cool tom groove. I put your pattern on the rack toms, then added a steady 8 on the floor. This accidentally created a inverse herta between the toms, which I then filled in the gaps with the kick. It sounds like a complicated groove, but it's just that simple 6 note pattern! Now if I can just figure out how to add pedal hats- back to work!
Agree. Any single rudiment can be applied in infinite ways - especially when u add the feet, ghost notes, inversions, etc. You know when it is engraved in your soul, compared to just cursory understanding of it. Just this morning I was jamming some alternate 5 stroke roll stickings around the kit and discovered a pattern I had never played before. Sounded pretty cool / unique.
Jealous of your setup, what a beautiful studio u have set up there. Cheers from Idaho Stephen. Rock on.
Couldn't agree more
Your house is AWESOME!!
Haha! Thanks, but this is my studio. No way the wife would let me keep the house like this!
One take, one and done! :D
yo this video is awesome! Super informative and extremely creative. Shouldn't have expected anything less from you I suppose
Thank you!
genius!!! a work of art...
Thank you my friend
Man…wicked cool. I am new to drumming…and I mean new…only had one lesson so far. I am totally going to take this philosophy as the key driving force for my practice. Thank you!
Welcome to the fam!
Wow.... That was crazy Steven 😱 I didn't understand most of what you just said 😱.... I may have to watch another 30 times 😱😱😱
Love it!
Great video and style of video. Thought it was a cool idea. The lesson is packed with great information as well. My only question is, what do your neighbors think of you?
Can't wait to show this video to my wife, I only want 1 kit, great 6 stroke detail.😊
Like 1 potato chip😂
Ha!
I think every drummer immediately started tapping that pattern with you out of “not practicing today” guilt haha
😄😂🤣
No lie detected will
What's "Not practicing guilt"? Is it something like 'white guilt' .. I don't practice unreasonable impositions. I just get down ! 😎
Amazing.
Thanks so much!
Awesome! 🙌🏼
Btw… your balcony… is that a table AND a pad? How did you make it? 😱 Seems like something David Raouf would make 😂. Making your hole house a practice area surely motivates 🔥
I think the same method could be applied to the art of tea making . the pour and the steeping were great... but not mastering the milk stir before completing the cup. 😆 Great video. very informative. and I am totally guilty of moving on before really understanding the concept. ugh
This video is nasty Stephen. Had to wash my hands after watching. You're one of my favorites 🤘
Haha! Thanks my friend
I have a vision of some parents putting up with the kid playing the walls ….awesome video man, this has to be off the cuff…you can’t make this stuff up!
🤟🏻
Wow, Stephen. How many sets do you have?!
Think deeply of simple things. - Arnold Ross
Yes!
❤❤❤ ❤❤❤
👊🏻🙏🏻
House looks like you died and woke up in heaven
This is actually at my studio...and yes, I will agree, it's my 14 year old self's dream haha
@@StephenTaylorDrums you can tell by what’s in it that you deserve every bit . Next level filmmaking teaching and appealing to the mindless mass going on in there!
God dam!
🤘🏻
Is this a reupload or did you have a similar video?
No, totally new. There is another video with this same one shot concept that is on the Moeller 3 stroke.
I agree with everyone here... well done. But hot tea w/lemon and milk? Do Stephen and Grant have a secret stash of melba toast?
Ha! Yea, I had to come off the coffee. Or at least limit it. Started giving me anxiety. So ginger/tumeric tea it is!
Are those 6 notes within one bar of 4/4?
They are. 4 dotted 8th notes, two 8th notes
THIS. VIDEO. SHOULD. BE. CODIFIED.
Seriously... the aspect of learning something so completely that it becomes a part of your natural percussive vocabulary should be more emphasized... I have seen you do it before in previous videos, and one or two other content creators (only Mike Johnston is coming immediately to mind...) but that is IT.
To me, this should be how every new technique, chop, concept, whatever, should be incorporated in to our individual drum encyclopedias that we keep in our heads. Absorption... Osmosis... Incorporation... however you want to word it, it is truly making something taught to us, OUR OWN.
Good vid... thank you for caring enough to spread the knowledge!
Thank you my friend
Great video & showcase of SDS! But...I can't believe you didn't show us the shitter man! 😂
Hahaha!
Superb 5.3 min. Im in t get bored camp. 🤦♂️
👊🏻
@@StephenTaylorDrums 👊
I wonder what my wife would do if I had kits all around the house like that. 🤔
She would make you buy a building to keep them all in, like mine did 🤣
@@StephenTaylorDrums tours?
Well. I've been playing drums for about 37 years an I'm nowhere near this level.
My body can't learn this.
Eggs Ah Lente !
😂🤘🏻
sounds like a clave🤔
You live in a house of DRUMS???!!!
Lol, this is at my studio
clever way to show off all your gear
You're on to me...this channel is just a front...
nice to see moon gels are losing popularity 😂 the cotton rag tends to be the most dependable hack
Ha! Funny story...I've been using the same set of drum dots for like 3 years. I finally ordered more 2 days ago...we just had to make do for this vid so the drums didn't blow the camera audio out lol
after my 2 stupid comments - this is a good lesson and is how I approach a groove but I base it on the music I hear by you know, the other guys that play the other instruments ..something the tiktok drummer is losing sight of.. (THE BAND) .. and learning latin grooves is indispensable.
It's 7 notes Stephen ;)
Brilliant! 🤯
Bro. That ain’t tea.
Lol, ginger tumeric tea to be exact. It needs to steep about twice as long as that did though. Has a clear yellow/orangish look
So deep you’re considering marrying a mermaid…. Awesome 😅
🧜🏻♀️ 🧜♂️
Dislike. You put Milk in the tea. My day is ruined ;)
Haha! Was wondering how many people would have an issue with that! I've been making tea like that since I visited South Africa years ago. That's how we drank it every day. Except they would steep it in milk
Just look up, When someone offers you a milky tea by Viva La Dirt League 😂
