    AND DANG!!!!! That Yamaha kick drum THUMPS!!!! Can I just have that bass, the toms from the DW and the Ludwig snare????

    • @kevinb8527
      @kevinb8527 6 місяців тому +5

      Man I thought exactly the same thing!! The DW rack Tom’s had a ton of resonance and sustain, while the Yamaha and Ludwig’s had a little less. The floor Tom’s all sounded similar and great to me, but the Yamaha kick was insane.

    Ludwig all the way! I used to have a Keystone X and wish I wouldn’t hadn’t gotten rid of it!😩😩😩
    But the Ludwig embodies everything that oak drums should be. Deep and dark with a quick decay. For the most part, the toms sounded the same on all 3 kits. But when it came to the floor tom and bass drum, you could really hear the presence of the oak!

    I endorsed Yamaha drums for years and owned the very first Yamaha Live Custom Oak (predecessors to Yamaha Hybrids) and loved mine. Tho this day, it was the best sounding kick I’ve here heard.

    Personal I love the Ludwig classic oak.
    I am currently using a Keystone X pro beat kit with a Black Beauty and it just has it’s on character.

    The DW kit stole the show in sound and finish. Cymbal selection really compliment the sound of all three kits. Thanks for another great video, guys.

      @@rippindrummer666 I agree with you on the price, and I thought I was going to like the Ludwig kit the best, but this DW kit just sounded and looked so good to me. The Ludwig kit certainly a terrific value and definitely sounded good as well.

    I am really digging those Ludwig Oaks lately! Best tom mounts.. Played one live other weekend, that kick shook the house, yet still had decent control- not a lot the sound guy needed to do- And who does not love the Ludwig logo and the history behind it! I play all the brands, so I have no biases.

    As someone who plays DW, Remo heads, and Sabian cymbals, I can tell you that you can't go wrong with that combo. All of these kits sound great. I think the Ludwig bass drum sounds the way you guys described because it's a 22x16 as compared to the other two which were 22x18. It had more punch. The shell depth really matters for bass drums and floor toms. If the DW kit had a 22x16 kick, it would be perfect. Great video!

  • @jjohnsonmarine

    For me, Yamaha caught my ear the most - then the Ludwig (Loogvig) and then the DW came in third. But, all were pretty much in the same neighborhood overall. Nice sets!! (and, I agree on the 18 Evolution crash - those are hard to beat!!). Thanks, as always, for a great video!!

  • @jrfrondelli2023

    Not surprisingly, the Yamaha kit has a little extra "grease" in terms of resonance and depth, plus a bit of added attack. My favorite here, followed by Ludwig.

  • @Lumerdrums
    @Lumerdrums 6 місяців тому +12

    In my ears the toms on dw sounded best. they have that "pre Eq'd" sound as if you put an dip at 300-500 Hz at them, which I like. Plus they were the most resonant of the 3 kits (maybe it's the tuning tho). I really liked the bassdrum of ludwig, just the toms sounded a bit more choked in a way. The yamaha is great too, but not type when it comes to looks. The dw finish is beautiful. I can see why it's that expensive. great video again :)

    Not sure if I am recalling your other videos correctly but I feel your mix is a bit roomier this time, which I like, you get a bit more of an accurate representation of being "in the room" as opposed to mainly close mics. Either way, can't wait for your next vid!

    Such a great video. All kits sounded great, but mad props (do people still say that?) to Yamaha for their oak kit finishes. If I remember, when you guys reviewed the Yamaha kit years back, you had mentioned that those weights made it a heavy sumbitch. Those cymbals aren't anything to sneeze at, either. Well done, everyone.

    I have the Classic Oak Ludwigs and it is the best sounding kit I ever played, and with very little tuning and muffling. These sound great right out of the box it doesn't take much to dial them in perfect. I have countless videos of them on my page and they bring a smile to my face every time I hear them. They are thunderous, I also use a Classic Oak snare for the recordings. First wood snare I ever had, and I love it. When I play live shows I do switch it out for a hammered Supraphonic, but I vote Ludwig all the way!

      It's called dark sound
      DW - most darker
      Yamaha - most brighter
      Ludvig - medium
      In solo plaing darker sound are alwais better. And for calm music, like jazz. But in metal, dark sound will be eaten by guitars.
      Then
      DW are perfect for jazz
      Yamaha perfect for metal
      Ludvig are more versitile

    Regardless of sound, those Yamaha certainly look the best. What a sweet color for a drum set! I like Ludwig drums but they always go for a "classic" color scheme and rarely deviate from it. And for DW an Eb note for the floor tom? Seems like they would adjust something in the manufacturing process, length of the drum etc. to come up with a neutral note one not sharp (of flat).

    DW for the win if this were to be a competition, but, Yamaha Kick, ufffff....was kind of expecting more from the Ludwig drums but was quite disappointed, although the Ludwig snare was quite appealing. I'm the proud owner of a DW Collectors Series in Pure Cherry and these drums are off the charts.
    Btw DCP, I know not a lot of companies produce Cherry drums but, it would be great if U can do a comparison as well and let the world know about this woods sonic properties.

    Very nice video. The Yamaha sounds much better than the DW and Ludwig. I prefer my Noble & Cooley maple set even better. Yes, more $ but I saved and saved and saved to move up from my 1985 Yamaha set. I use Evans hydraulic drumheads which to me are better in all ways over any other drumhead.
