- Happy Birthday to Alan Parsons who was born on this date in 1948.
It's a very rare occurrence when I upload two videos in a week, but two in one day in unheard of. You can thank Lynn for that. I had an upload planned today for Mike Watt's birthday, but Lynn texted me this morning to let me know it was Alan Parsons' birthday. I told her I already had a birthday video planned and she asked, "For who?" I told her it was Mike Watt... the guy from Minutemen... the "Piss Bottle Man" guy! She said, "Nobody knows him. You better upload Alan Parsons."
"Eye In The Sky" by The Alan Parsons Project is the title track off the album which came out in 1982 and featured David Paton (of Pilot... 'Magic/Ozempic') of bass.
I think I recorded this back in 2016 and it's one of the last unpublished videos of me with the Wal.
Great job Troy, you make the bass line bounce which is a very subtle effect that many bassist don’t understand and don’t know how to achieve. You nailed it. Great job getting that along with the tone.
Have a happy holiday season
Thank you, I appreciate that! Same to you!
And his timing is absolutely perfect
Lovely cover. This song will always remind me of my Dad
Great practice song for right hand consistency - excellent job!...and WHAT A BASS!!
Definitely! Thank you!
Nice bass outro my brother !!!! ⚡️👍🏻
Someone else mentioned that... I had to go back an watch it to see what they were talking about. Thank you!
Love this! Great chugging practice!
Glad you enjoyed it! So many people overlook the "chug".
I can hear the Roll The Bones-ness emanating from this bass.
Truth!
Superb Bass Cover ! Your bass guitar has such a good sound and you play it like a pro . Thanks again for sharing your talent for others to enjoy on UA-cam.
Thank you very much, that was very nice of you to say.
Parabéns 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻, eu amo essa música ❤ , o som do contrabaixo vai dentro da minha alma!! Adoro ❤❤❤
Você toca muito bem 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wonderful to see the Wal again Troy. I was in a similar situation a while back, I finally bought my official all-time dream bass. Without a doubt the best-playing and sounding bass ever, but I was almost too afraid to take it out of the case! It was actually worrying me to have such a valuable instrument so I sold it to a very good friend so I know it's in good hands.
It was a 70s Alembic Series. Instant Entwistle.
Yes, it's been a while. I understand where you're coming from, but I never had any concerns about the value of the bass; I just didn't like it all that much. I actually sold it back to the fellow who I'd bought it from, which was out agreement from the start. It was Sean Sammon from Puddle of Mud.
@@TJH3113 I remember reading the saga at the time and being so happy for you to get it. Sometimes these things just don't work out but at least there was a happy ending 😊
Simply love Alan Parsons Project! Excellent rendition, as always :)
Awesome! Thank you.
A very good song. Nicely done Troy! Thanks for all your posts....happy holidays to you and fam!
Thank you. Same to you!
A simple song for bass but I always enjoy playing it. Thanks! Cheers from Utah
Awesome! Thanks.
Was just poking around with this tune this week. You’re always on my case! Great cover, as always.
Very cool. Thank you.
I really love this song.... was lucky enough to see Alan Parsons Project live in New Zealand in 2017 I think and his band was amazing. I think that's a really sexy looking bass too
Me too! Very cool... we saw them back in 2019 and there are a couple of clips in my "Concerts" playlist. I'm guessing it was shortly before Covid really hit.
Been watching your videos for years now, these always make me feel so good. Music really is amazing. Such a great song as well, love The Alan Parsons Project even though I'm only 23.
Very cool!
Another great blast from the past. Nicely done! I think that this is one of those deceptively simple songs that show how important impeccable timing, consistency, and muting can be. Sometimes, less is more. That said, loved that bit of noodling at the end.
“Impeccable timing, consistency and muting”. And the “bounce” mentioned about. Here here!!
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to leave such a nice comment.
So good to see you life has been throwing curves. Peace a love to ya I love your sound and skill. Great to see you
Thanks and same to you!
Welcome back troy! such a simple and elegant song and sounds great!
I haven't gone anywhere. Glad you liked it!
I just remebered thjs song. Ahhh so many memories
I hope they were good.
@@TJH3113 Yeah... some of them a bit cloudy though 😏
Troy just casually jammin' ... on a WAL !
Why not?🤷♂️
Thank you for covering this excellent band. Your performance displayed metronome precision and RERFECT tonal balance between fingers. A+++ Thank you, great job!!
Thank you very much!
Thanks, Lynn! Great playing as always!
Haha... happy wife/happy life. Thanks Amanda!
Awesome, Troy! Great setup in the description too, hahaha! I'll go looking for the Watt upload too, he's one of my heros. Met him a couple times at a few shows and he is an outstanding bass man.
Thank you. I love my wife, but.... I was looking forward to a fairly quiet weekend with the Mike Watt cover (with regard to replying to comments), but this video is my most popular out of the price ten... while the one I'm really proud of languishes in much views and comments. I understand, it's a popularity contest and, all too often, the better man does not win.
Came for the Wal action and was not disappointed! Great playing as always = )
Thanks again!
Great song. Thank you for covering. I am really happy to hear this by your base cover. This is my one of the best 80's. Even now I often listen to this song for commuting work by train.
I'm glad you liked it. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
"Nobody knows him, you better upload Alan Parsons" 🤣🤣🤣
Nice cover as always Troy - Happy Holidays to you and yours!
Haha... yeah, it wasn't like an, "It would be 'better' if you uploaded Alan Parsons." It was, "You'd BETTER upload Alan Parsons."
Thanks and same to you!
Awesome. The type of bass line that I go to when my hands need a break. I can sit back and listen to the vocal melody and all the colors of the guitar or synth etc...I can comfortably sing along then hit that little run towards the end that will really stand out and shine amongst those 8th notes. The bass laying the ground work.
Excellent as always Troy..the question must be....that Wal..oh my days!!
Thanks a lot. This video is pretty old and was recorded back when I had the Wal. I only held on to it for around two years.
That Bass Guitar SLAYES!
It was a beauty.
Wow this is a deep cut.
I cannot recall the last time I heard it.
I hope you liked it.
@TJH3113 : You sir are The Bass Master:)
Good stuff bassman 👍 love your covers 🍻
Thank you. Glad you like them!
Just listened to this the other day, Along with Games People Play. Such a great cover, Nicely done as always Troy.
Very cool! Thank you.
you killed it at the end : )
I forgotten all about that… Thanks.
One of his best, for sure! Play it back to back with this one "It's a quarter after one, I'm all alone and I need you now... said I wouldn't call but I lost all control and..." too many modern country tunes... eh, never mind. But, really!! Many folks don't know Parsons had a hand (or two) in Dark Side of the Moon.
I’m glad you liked it. And can definitely hear the similarities with the song you mentioned.
Troy, MERRY CHRISTMAS / Happy Hanukkah to you and yours! Thank for another year of cool song choices, fun basses, different tones and techniques... "WRATHCHILD!" -KC Donny Ozzzz@@TJH3113
Love the superb tone of that Wal. Great cover work as always, and thanks for posting this video!
Thank you kindly!
That tone is superb...love the Wal basses...
Thanks, I’m glad you liked it.
That Wal sounds phat and confident! Thanks Troy!
I'm glad you like it. Thanks!
Great job once again Troy. Thanks again for helping me out with the Boston song. Take care. Peace.
Thanks so much and, as always, it was my pleasure! Be well.
I've always loved the Alan Parsons Project. The first Album "Tales of Mystery and Imagination" set the stage for creativity from the Ensemble. I'm also a huge fan of Steely Dan, they also blazed that trail of having a Band and adding Studio Experts as needed per the song...that format mostly died off in the late 70's, but there was a "Band" in the early 80's called "The The" out of England, it was one Guy that wrote all the Songs and had probably over 100 musicians on his Albums, Matt Johnson (The The) was known mostly for his lyrics, but he had a vision and knew how to get the most out of his musicians. I like to think of him (them) as the "New Wave" Steely Dan/Alan Parsons Project.
Very cool. A few other people have mentioned the similarity between Alan Parsons and Steely Dan in the comment section. I’m not familiar with The The, but I’ll try to check them out. Take care.
Nice to hear you man! I got good feels watching you enjoy this as I was enjoying it just now. I love the song, I love your end result. Once again I find motivation when I least expected it upon opening utube. Thank you hugely for sharing!
Thank you very much! I’m really glad you liked it.
Hell yeah dude! Love your mask collection!
Thanks!! Most of the masks are from Death Studios.
Thank you for this, Troy! I love the APP and this is one of my favorite tunes. You've done a great job on it.
Thanks, I’m glad you liked it.
Always looking for cover songs to do with my piano player . Great share as always Troy .
Awesome! Thank you.
hell yes. I love this band, and this song in particular. Fantastic cover dude! Have a happy holiday!
Awesome! Thanks! You too!
Awesome ❤😊
Thank you Amin.
Nicely done, Alan Parsons Project is excellent..."Wouldn't Wanna Be Like You" next requested.
Thank you. I'll check it out!
I had that same Wal bass several years ago. It was a 1992 model. The value of those things has went thru the roof. Crazy. Love your covers and playing brother! Happy New Year.
Very cool! Cool basses but, in my opinion, not worth the $. Thanks and take care!
OMG I LOVE APP, thank you so much for covering this song!! Fantastic as always 😄
Awesome! I'm glad you liked it. Thanks!
Missed this Wal videos. Great one Troy!
Thanks!
Knocked it out of the park again Troy!🔥
Thanks a lot, Rob!
Remain calm and keep shooting them eighth notes. So nicely done.
Always. Thank you.
Great simple Bassline, good job, like your bass sound.
Appreciate it!
Very good cover! You really played this well 🤘!! I remember this song.
Thank you very much!
Well done Troy ! Nice cover, as always ! ;-)
Many thanks!!
Sounded great! Wow, 2 videos in one day. And you can tell music is good for the soul. You seem to be getting younger with every video 😉
Thanks Jim! Yeah, bathing in baby blood is expensive but the results speak for themselves.
🤣🤣🤣@@TJH3113
Great. Well played. Fab song.
Thanks, I’m glad you liked it!
Nice job as always. Apparantly, we have the same taste in music. I just learned this for a group I'm currently in, its a great song.
Thank you… Very cool!
Nice song man. Always grateful for listen you
Glad you liked it. Thank you.
Fantastic song. Loved it then and still now. I know I keep saying it but your finger work is bang in the pocket. This comes from a monkey-see-monkey-do bass player. It's songs like this that showcase the fact that one doesn't always need a complex bassline. It can still be a great experience. After all we listen to a song not one instrument. Thank again.
It is a great song, isn’t it? Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to leave. Such a great comment. Take care!
Troy I played that in a band. Liked Alan Parsons. Good job as usual.
Very cool.
Love this! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Alan Parsons, the lesser known Steely Dan. Sheer perfection and engineering 😎🍻 every song you do, you nail the mood, tone and subtleties of the bass 🤟
Great comparison! Thanks so much.
It's nice to see the Wal bass can have a warm fat tone too. Sounding like Jason Chancellor wouldn't be proper for this gem of a song. Another great cover, Troy. Just in case I don't get the opportunity on the 25th, Merry Christmas to you and Lynn.
Thanks so much and we wish you the same. Take care!
Love that and that bass 😊
Thanks, Jean! It was my dream bass, but I didn’t keep it for very long.
That's a great jam! 😊
It sure is!
I'm glad you decided to post this. Good song bringing back some good old memories.
Hope you and Lynn have an amazing Christmas. God bless you both.
That's great to hear! Same to you!
Great cover Troy…. Perfect🤙
Thanks a lot!
Really soothing song, haven't heard this one before, amazing playing as always! I might have to give this one a try, had to switch to a pick because of wrist issues recently so hopefully I can find a way to take a bit more of the aggressiveness of the pick out of my tone than normal.
Wow, I'm surprised you haven't heard it before. Sorry to hear about your wrist problems. I hope you are able to find a work-around for it.
😍Perfect
Thanks😃
Very well played and great sound again my friend! Keep the covers coming!🎸
Thank you! Will do!
Nice one again!
Thanks again!
Tomar cuidado!
Maravilhoso !
Thank you.
sounds good chief
Thank you very much.
Is that the 50s fender precision from the sound sample videos in the background? Didnt know it was yours, great cover T!
Yes, it is, but it's long gone. This was a very old video. I think my brother in law got around $20,000 for it.
Goosebumps Troy. I love that song and you sound just like the guy\\g signging it.

Thank you Marvine and Merry Christmas! We opened your package today and Lynn loved the earrings. We will send you a photo with her wearing when we get a chance. We both hope you have a wonderful holiday season and we both love you.
Holy fucking Wal.
Yeah, it was.
Awesome upload...WOW. Thanks you. (and I see someone like Halloween Masks dot something) 😄😄
Thanks for watching! Most of the masks are from Death Studios.
Love that Wal bass , Troy! Is that new?
It was a cool bass. I had it for around 2 years back in 2015 or so.
Look out behind you!
Not again!
Just revisiting some of your past work. My son has become a big fan of Alen Parsons Product. I'm bushing up. I noticed that this song requires a lot of focus on timing. I don't know if you remember me. But I just started playing about 3 years ago. I need all the timing practice I can get. Thanks
Very cool! Yes, the song is fairly straight forward but, as you said, requires attention to get it to sound right... to lock in and get a quality sound out of each note. I hope you keep progressing and enjoy your time spent playing. Take care!
This was fantastic! Great song and one of my mom's favorites! :) Would you be open to doing a cover of "Sound of Muzak" by Porcupine Tree? Another great song with a cool, smooth groove I think you would dig (if you haven't heard the song before). Thanks for posting!!!!
Thanks, I’m glad you liked it. I’ll check out your suggestion, thanks for making it.
Dat bass 😮
Yeah, it was something... just not for me.
Great cover! Can you do “Watching the Wheels” by John Lennon? That bass line seems to have some great range I think would be enjoyable 😊
Thank you! I’ll check it out… Thanks for the suggestion.
I'd kill for a black 5 string!
I think, at this point, you might actually have to.
Bit too much for me to spend.
Thanks for all the great videos & marry Christmas to all.
0:48 the original sounds like it's played in a lower octave(?) which is a VERY low note! Can a bass nornally go that low, or did Alan do something else to achieve it? Always loved this song 😊
I think what you’re hearing at that point is a low D note played on a keyboard. That note could be played on a four string base by tuning the string down a whole step. It could also be played on a five string bass, without having to re-tune anything.
wow I haven't seen that mk2 wal in forever! Thought maybe you had got it back then I read the description. I forget, but what happened to that bass?
I sold it back to the fellow who I bought it from, as was our agreement. It was Sean Sammon from Puddle of Mud.
Oof! Nice Wal.
Thanks!
I know who is Mike Watt : ) one of my favorites is The glory man.
Awesome! I covered that one a little while back.
4:10 maybe it's been too long since I heard the song but I really don't remember that funkiness
Me neither.
@@TJH3113 lol it sounded great
