For veggies I feel like the best advice I've heard is to cut everything right away. You're more likely to use and/or eat it if it's all chopped! Also, the filming of this was just awesome! :)

Balance is key for my prep. If fruits and veggies aren't prepped, my family will grab something else. But if I prep them all at once, then it's sometimes too much to eat and goes bad.
Often, I have to adapt my meal plan to avoid food waste. It's not a bad thing...keeps me on my toes 😂
Another subscriber suggested using apple sauce instead of oil or butter. I've done that. It works great. I've also topped up with apple sauce if I don't have the full measurement of oil.
    Enjoy your week!

This is by no way a criticism but simply an observation. I was shocked when I saw all those plastic carry bags that your groceries came in. Here in Australia everyone takes reusable bags to the shops. Single use plastic bags were banned several years ago. If you forget your bags you can purchase reusable or brown paper bags for a small fee. Some supermarkets also offer free boxes as a substitute. I just presumed everywhere did the same. Love the idea of food prepping. I’m going to try this so there’s less food wastage, which I’m guilty of. Great videos.

Thanks Lynn! I agree about the plastic bags. Walmart is particularly bad because they bag each item in a separate bag. It's shocking. Thankfully they also accept the bags back at their store for recycling.

@@papertownhome I recently started taking big bags (like Tjmaxx bags) with me to get groceries and WOW. It simplifies it so much! I have a 1yo and a 3yo so grocery shopping can be hard sometimes but just having like 3 big bags to load and unload makes it go so much quicker and seem less. And obviously more environmentally friendly is a plus! I also got some mesh produce bags that I can use at the store. Especially helpful when there are no produce bags in sight haha.

Sorry you’re getting so many comments about the plastic bags you got from Walmart. They give us a lot too. I also use ziplock bags to store my food. It’s easier and I have a small refrigerator so it saves space. Bc Just want to let you know I love your videos. I have watched this one a few times and it has really helped me simplify how a prep in my kitchen. The five minute prep is a game changer!

Yes, peppers freeze wonderfully! You don’t even need to thaw them when you go to use them. I freeze a bunch of my garden peppers and onions and fry them up later for fajitas all year long.
For the jalapeños, just note that they will probably stick together if you toss them into a bag and freeze them, so either freeze together the amount you plan to use or pre-freeze them on a baking tray to break up before you put them in the final bag.
Your video was wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing!

Hi Erika. I thought I would share a tip: when I peel and core a bunch of apples, I like to keep the "discards" and boil them into a yummy "apple tea". I let it simmer in water for 5 - 10, even 15 minutes with a pinch of salt and a cinnamon stick (optional). It gets this lovely pink color 😊 Would be probably nice with honey too. The flavor is quite mild but it's a treat I think, and nutritional for sure 😊🍎❤️
I appreciate and am touched by the love and insight that you share through your channel. Thank you 🙏❤️👋

So you cut up your potatoes and they keep in the plastic bag? I’ve always kept them in water so they don’t turn…I am very intrigued by this. How long do they last cut up and stored like this?

    • @papertownhome
      @papertownhome  8 місяців тому +1

Great question! My experience is that russet or yellow potatoes will only last a few days. I would typically try to use them within 2-3 at the most. Sweet potatoes will usually last a week. I've never heard of keeping them in water. Do you cut them up and then put them in water?

    • @MadalinaSilaghi

@@papertownhome You cut them as you like or as you're planning to use them and put them in the water. Or you can just peel them and put them in the water, if you don't know yet how you will cook them. If you plan to use them unpeel, you can just wash and dry them and store them simply in a container in the fridge. But if you cut them or peel them, emerge them in the water. As I said above, they will last up to a week.

Also, if you have a blender, my kids love smoothies and it’s a super easy way to throw in spinach, frozen fruit, yogurt, avocado, overripe bananas. Great for breakfast or when you do breakfast for dinner! :) or when you just need some extra vitamins in your meal.

I love raw veggies cut in the fridge. This also helps with picky eaters. When I prep dinner the kids can have an “appetizer” of veggies or fruit which is what I would serve anyways.

Interesting video. I have tried prepping & it doesn’t work for me. That said, watching your video made me realize… we eat our big meal at 3pm (farmers) and I could prep our evening salad at the same time & have it ready to go. More efficient for me. And easier evening clean up!! Hmmm thank you for the inspiration. We are not big snackers - except at nights, but we try to stick to fruit. Altho junk food does sneak in & I am trying to fight that. So thank you for these videos!! 🥰

    • @papertownhome

I love them! They were installed by the previous owners and I was very worried about how they'd hold up to water. They have a polyurethane hard finish, which keeps them protected. Initially I was extremely careful about them, but now I worry less. I've even seen water sit on them for awhile without leaving a mark.
