☑️ 0:49 1353: The first Lao kingdom, called Lan Xang or “land of the million elephants,” was founded by Fa Ngum in 1353.
☑️ 1:00 1560: King Setthathirat moves the capital from Luang Prabang to Vientiane
☑️ 1:07 1775-1800: The Siamese absorb southern Laos.
☑️ 1:13 1893-1952 - French colonial period.
☑️ 1:30 1953 - France withdraws, leaving an independent Laos.
☑️ 1:41 1954 - Laos gains full independence as a constitutional monarchy.
☑️ 1:52 Between 1964 and 1973. Secret War in Laos.
☑️ 2:33 National Day 2 December 1975 - After the Communist victory in Vietnam, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic is established
☑️ 2:41 1991 - A new constitution is endorsed. Security and cooperation pact signed with Thailand.
☑️ 2:55 1993-94 - A start is made in restoring individual liberties, the country begins opening up to tourism.
☑️ 3:09 1997 - Laos is admitted to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
☑️ 3:16 1998-2003- Khamtay Siphandone becomes president. The gradual transition to a market economy continues.
☑️ 3:32 On 24 March 2020, Laos became the last country in Southeast Asia to report its confirmed case of the coronavirus .
