if you're worried that the ground is too hot for your animals to walk on, press your palm to it for about 10 seconds. if you can't hold it there comfortably the whole time, your pets shouldn't be walking on it!
My mother has hated reptiles for over 50 years, but when she came behind me and saw this video - she kept watching, and liked Ally! It's a miracle, guys!
@@GlorifiedGremlin I define my mother as cold blooded too, so I think they have lots in common haha. Bad jokes aside, they really are like dogs, it's heartwarming.
I really loved when the kid got to pet Ally- its little experiences like those that make people appreciate and respect reptiles rather than fear/dislike them! ❤
I agree. The local petstore used to let me pet and hold the baby boa constrictors when I was a kid, and now I have a lifelong love of reptiles, a degree in biology and a pet gecko.
I once had some cops try to tell me I couldn't walk my rabbits around up and down the street on their leashes. I proved them wrong. Know your city ordinances when it comes to your pets, because (and this is coming from a pal from highschool who went through police 'training') the cops almost never know pet laws.
Clueless on most laws. They aren't even required to learn the laws they're supposed to enforce, they're allowed to kick you out of somewhere or even arrest you if they THINK what you're doing is illegal.
@@neonlights_12 That's pretty impressive, like are they only taught basic rights and wrongs at the police academy? Like how negligent do you have to be to not know the laws of the city/town you have sworn to protect and serve.

From what I can gather tegus in general actually pretty good at swimming as they do occasionally eat aquatic. This goes for any reptile with a long tail as a very long tail is really only useful for swimming (except for snakes because well look at them) Alaska is very good at swimming for missing half of her tail as of the tail is essential for the way most reptiles swim
Now I want to see a pool built at Snake Discovery so Ally and any other reptiles that can swim can regularly enjoy the enrichment. 2-3x deeper and 2x wider than a kiddie pool.
I feel bad that you had to give her away because of the changing law code but, she always looks genuinely happy in the videos and she can be a way to educate people on reptiles they may not have heard of before. I didn’t even know Tegus existed until I saw the video where Alaska was picked up and even in the first clip on the channel with her she looks happy and healthy, you took good care of her too.
@@madelyno2269 indeed. I despise bugs, so having to feed things like hornworms or roaches gives me the chills. I would keep things like tarantulas or lizards if I could get over that, but I'll stick with my snakes🤭🤭🤭
Your 'adventure' with the cops makes it important to know the laws, rules, and regulations about reptiles (heck, any pet) in your area. I love how you give great enrichment to your animals. @@spreademu1218 they absolutely will. The Supreme Court ruled in Heien vs. North Carolina that you can be stopped and questioned if the cop has "reasonable suspicion" that you're breaking a law, even if a law they think you're breaking doesn't exist. If you then mess up the encounter by saying the wrong thing or acting the wrong way and don't know the laws about what you're supposedly doing wrong (which thankfully here Ed and Emily did) the cop can and probably will escalate the situation to the point that you get arrested for a breaking a law that doesn't exist, "resisting an officer" or some other made up bs. Best case you end up losing a few hours in the back of a cop car then let go when the cop realizes his little oopsy-daisy, worst case you end up like Elijah McClain the autisic man tackled to the ground, put in a cartiod chokehold until he vomited and passed out, and injected with a lethal amount of KETAMINE for...looking suspicious.

You should let her go to the deep end and see if she would dive, I've heard of tegus in Florida doing that and catching fish, she wouldn't get tired to eaisly
She does have to work harder than a regular Tegu because they use their tail primarily when swimming and she's missing at least half of hers, so it stands to reason that she would tire faster. Plus she isn't as used to the exercise being a captive animal so that's a factor too
I used to take my macaw and another parrot to the beach (on a harness) when we lived on the WA coast. Lots of double takes from other people. Also spent a lot of time answering questions and conservation PR. Anything on a leash that is not a dog is going to perk people's curiosity.

Walking with pets tip, to backpack off Ed: Put your hand on the concrete; of it too hot for your palm or back of your hand, it’s way too hot for little paws or claws.

That looked like so much fun. re: poison ivy - we used to have a Woolly monkey when I was a teen. Chipper wasn't bothered by poison ivy, but he would get it in his fur and all over his hands and then he would want to be held by my mom. His favorite position was sitting in the crook of her arm and clasping the the collar of her blouse. Since she wore long sleeves, she never had a problem with poison ivy on her arms, but when he would grab her collar, she would get poison ivy in stripes along her neck where his fingers brushed her neck as he grabbed her collar.
I know it's been a year since you posted this, but I had to ask: Woolly monkeys get pretty big (also strong) how did you safely keep it as a pet? Was he a rescue situation? What ended up happening with Chipper?
My service dog wears shoes whenever we leave the house. You never know what dangers there will be; burrs, splinters, glass, ice melt, etc. He's completely ignores the shoes, but the downside is having strangers coo and ask questions every 10 seconds 🙄
I can, ive rescued so many animals from people with love and good intentions but not financially, physically, or mentally able to properly care for them... whats important is they become rescued or owner taught how to do it better.
It’s probably not any harder than having a gecko drop their tail tbh. It’s a shame but it happens. I saw a video of someone who’s young tegu flung their tail off the first time they tried giving her a bath.
@@DustyHoney yes, but a Tegu isn’t a gecko. They don’t drop their tails like geckos, I believe Ally had to reabsorb half her tail because her owner didn’t feed her enough. So yes, it is harder than a gecko loosing their tail because they can regrow it while a Tegu can not
Haha it takes practice :) eventually your bunny will associate being outside with putting the harness on :) my cats felt the same until they realized that harness means fun outdoor time :)
It was a PAIN to get my huge New Zealand rabbit used to the harness.. but eventually they do realize that leash means outside playtime! It was still a pain to get her in the harness but then it was because she was extremely excited to go outside
This was great fun to watch! The music fit really well, there was lots of different scenery, and you got to demonstrate a whole bunch of reptile-care in action! Get em outside for UVB, but don't let em walk on TOO hot of concrete in the summer, what they can eat for lunch, to clean up after their poops in the river (LOL) and to know your local laws so that if anyone, including law enforcement, comes up to you all disapproving, you can have your backside covered! Also this isn't part of that info, but it's hilarious to see ppl on talk shows react to Ally bc she is the best girl but she big so ppl are funny.
Cops: Supposed to enforce the laws
Also cops: Don't actually know all the laws

yup cops are incompetent and useless 99.99% of the time
@@spudnik1877 without cops who will protect our country if already California has a banned all guns?

Hm. I’m confused how this is related to the video-
@@urfavbellarose Watch till the end, they explained what happened
The way she shakes the horn worms-my god the cuteness
You should let her go to the deep end and see if she would dive, I've heard of tegus in Florida doing that and catching fish, she wouldn't get tired to eaisly
She does have to work harder than a regular Tegu because they use their tail primarily when swimming and she's missing at least half of hers, so it stands to reason that she would tire faster. Plus she isn't as used to the exercise being a captive animal so that's a factor too

Toothless attachment….for Ally
Imagine chilling by the beach and seeing someone take their pet reptile on a leash for a swim.
I'd have no issue since its on a leash. xD
I used to take my macaw and another parrot to the beach (on a harness) when we lived on the WA coast. Lots of double takes from other people. Also spent a lot of time answering questions and conservation PR. Anything on a leash that is not a dog is going to perk people's curiosity.

This was a super great video! Ally was having so much fun!!!!
It was so lovely,the falls,the trees,the birds.
And watching Ally eat lunch, then nap behind a leaf was priceless!!!
💖🦎💖
Honestly, this is the sweetest, most weirdly wholesome video of yours. Thank you for sharing this amazing day with your fans.
I heard random meowing and wondered why there was a cat in a Snake Discovery video (although didn’t it happen before?) and then realized my cat climbed up in bed next to me.

Walking with pets tip, to backpack off Ed: Put your hand on the concrete; of it too hot for your palm or back of your hand, it’s way too hot for little paws or claws.
I'm glad Ally got to enjoy her swim and her picnic!
Thanks for the reminder on hot stones on hot days.
Ally is awesome, she is my favorite. I like how she sometimes is contemplating life while looking over water. Thanks for giving her a really great day!
the little tegu walk is adorable
you should make wings to put on her harness so she can be a little dragon!
Emily: She’s hiding behind a leaf
Also Emily: Ally, don’t eat the leaf
🤣
That is a true parent moment. xD
Ally: but leaf tastes good
My 2 year old ditched Paw Patrol to watch you guys walk Ally. He loves watching your videos with me. I want to bring my kids to visit your zoo when you are fully opened. I’m sure they’d love it!
That is so awesome! Kids need to learn to respect all animals. Nothing sweeter than a baby and an animal playing together 🙂
@@malinjohansson6942 I agree
When Ally just flopped down for a nap halfway up the big hill.... I felt that
That looked like so much fun. re: poison ivy - we used to have a Woolly monkey when I was a teen.
That is my cats absolute favourite way to be held too! And if I'm not wearing a collared top he likes to put one hand in my neckband
I got shoes for Jake, my medical service dog. He isn’t thrilled about them, but he knows they help him to not get burned on pavement
My service dog has shoes for hot weather outdoors too. If I won't walk barefoot because of the heat, I don't expect my dog too either.
Our pup also has a few pairs of shoes - one for winter and a thinner pair for the summer. I've seen way too many pups with burned pads at the park.
My service dog wears shoes whenever we leave the house. You never know what dangers there will be; burrs, splinters, glass, ice melt, etc. He's completely ignores the shoes, but the downside is having strangers coo and ask questions every 10 seconds 🙄
Ally: my day has come.
I love this so much. Allie is the most chill cute little tegu/garbage disposal ive ever seen! 😹
What a good girl! She’s just like a dog, so excited to be outside, having so much fun, and then being COMPLETELY wiped out 😂
She is so precious! Wonderful representation of the breed!! ✌🏻
Ally is so beautiful I don’t know how anybody could neglect her so much she lost some of her tail
I know :( its awful because shes gorgeous
I can, ive rescued so many animals from people with love and good intentions but not financially, physically, or mentally able to properly care for them... whats important is they become rescued or owner taught how to do it better.
@@miillionsofcritters1729 well its good that u have the opportunity to rescue them and gine them a better life
It’s probably not any harder than having a gecko drop their tail tbh.
So yes, it is harder than a gecko loosing their tail because they can regrow it while a Tegu can not
I had totally forgotten about the time I took my euromastyx on a leash to school. My choir teacher about fell over laughing when he scampered in.
So you can put a tegu on a leash? Gonna have to try this with my rabbit....
Edit: he didn't like it
My two rabbits both like being taken outside on a leash now that they’ve gotten used to it
Haha it takes practice :) eventually your bunny will associate being outside with putting the harness on :) my cats felt the same until they realized that harness means fun outdoor time :)
@@misstweetypie1 *wait you did cats*
IGHT LETS.TRY GECKO-

No
You have to slowly let them get used to a harness. Give them some time.
It was a PAIN to get my huge New Zealand rabbit used to the harness.. but eventually they do realize that leash means outside playtime! It was still a pain to get her in the harness but then it was because she was extremely excited to go outside
This made me so happy, just watching her plod around doing tegu stuff
I love Ally! She's such a precious little lady. I wish I had the space for a tegu, they're one of the only lizards I'm interested in keeping.
XP
Ally is so cute and looked like she had so much fun and loved it

Ally is my favourite. Love this girl! She's so chill. 😂 Who says reptiles can't express happiness and contentment. She's clearly loving life and is so damn cute!
True
Love the patterns she leaves in the sand with her feet and tail 🤩🤩
She's SO PRETTY, and was better behaved on that trip than any 4 year old I've met would have been...what a good girl!
