    Thank you Sir. I am very happy that you have made this video at a very critical time as I am doing my thesis on hydraulic flushing of reservoirs. Can you please make a VIDEO on calibration of hydraulic & sediment model?

      I’m planning to do a calibration video at some point, but it’ll be a while. If you reach out to me on LinkedIn or research gate I have an unpublished technical manual that had some good information on the topic

      @@stanfordgibson I have run into a problem while simulating gates. I wrote rules in one program and RAS keeps saying it ran into trouble reading the rules so I copy pasted rules over from a different project that worked there only changing where I got the simulation values from and RAS claims it has trouble reading the rules even though it works just fine in the other one. Honestly I'm at my wits end...

    Can you breach a structure for which you have rules? I'm finding that despite my rules using "If" statements which bind them to only apply during a time window, after the window is over, HEC-RAS is not honoring the breach.

      You should be able to integrate breaching with rules...we actually set up a simple test case just to make sure its working in 6.4.1 and it worked for us. There must be something else preventing the breach.

      @@stanfordgibson Thanks for following up! I figured it out--I actually had to enter the breach into the Rules routine. I'm simulating a dam with limited outflows on the ascending limb of the hydrograph that represent the operating the scheme of the dam, in order to prepare downstream infrastructure and communities for the coming flood. I had these entered in as a time series (i.e. Day 1 limit to X flow, Day 2 limit to X+ flow, Day 3 Limit to X++ flow, then open all gates). I found that I couldn't simply discontinue entering rules after Day 3, I had to tell it to use the calculated breach flow for times after Day 3.

      I initially had assumed that if I gave the structure no rules, it would revert to the hydraulics as presented in the geometry editor, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

    Are you interested in checking the control rules in a 2D model? If so, please write back here and I can share a model with such an example.

    Without reservoir gate rules, can we simulate the other operational rules for multipurpose dams?

    • @stanfordgibson
      @stanfordgibson  2 роки тому

      Yes, you actually don't need to operate the gates. As long as you have a structure you can specify the flow through the structure (without reference to gate operations). In fact, in practice, I almost never operate individual gates. I usually define rules for flow through the structure (or sediment) and let RAS figure out the gate operations. You can also write gates against pumps.
