Having to remove the cab for a turbo replacement (passenger side I believe) and an engine swap is tragic. If that was my brand new truck sitting there completely taken apart.... I'd be so pissed!

4.6 was absolutely a great engine, but the video is about the 2020/21. In those model years, the 5.7 was the sole engine option for the Tundra. The 4.6 was discontinued after model year 2019.

I was able to find a 2021 TRD Pro in Army Green last year with 20 k miles. I’ve had multiple older Tundra’s in the past and this model is by far my favorite.
I added the cooler on the transmission on myself on my 2020 and it made all the difference in the transmission temps. I just bought the part and bolted it on and ordered a plate type cooler from amazon. The toyota part has a thermostat on it so it functions just like the previous years. I love my 2020 SR5 Dbl Cab 4x4 in the quicksand. I put all of the TRD offroad parts on it but I needed the front bench seat and that goes away as soon as you leave the SR5 trim.
@@TonyTundra5.7 No, that's not what Mark was saying. They changed the tune in the computer and removed the cooler because Toyota claimed with the new tune it didn't need it. The tune doesn't know the cooler is there or not so it still shifts fast and is snappy especially in tow haul mode.
Agreed completed. The 2020-21 had the updated gauge cluster, infotainment, LED DRL combined with the old-school, perfected 3UR-FE 8V mated to the tank-like 6speed auto. Never selling my '21 blacked out Toyota Tundra.
Love my 2019 TRD sport, will keep it to the last drop of oil..i do like technology but with simplicity last things to brake and yeah had to install trans cooler since i do some towing.
2018 to me is the best year. First year of Toyota TSS last year of the trans cooler. I bought 2018 1794 TRD package, with 21,000 miles on it 3 months ago. This is my second Tundra and I’ll keep it forever.
For all the reasons you mention I think 2021 is the best year for the Tundra TRD Pro. They will hold their value for many years to come and will continue to be very sought after.

I have a 2013 5.7 v8 4X4. It is a base model. Shifter is up on the column. Very plain jane and I love it. It is a truck. Not a luxury Cadillac. Lifted just a tad. Have some nice wheels and tires on it. Love it. Cons: as you said...it does do a little gear hunting. And mpg for sure lol. Would def like a 2020 in OD green for sure.
My dad has a 2013 regular cab long box 2wd base model. Not a single option on it. However, one thing I’ve always liked about it is the vinyl floor. Easy to clean. Most of us just cover our carpet with weather tech mats nowadays anyway. Vinyl floor should be an option on higher trims.
The future is not electric. Fortunately people are realizing that. FWIW, the MSRP on my 2021 Tundra, double cab long bed, $41k and change. I paid around $38k. Can you imagine...bought it in March 2021. Unbelievably lucky.
I have a 2007 TRD SR5 Double Cab with 195,000 miles. Only use it to haul stuff from big box stores. Looks like a brand new penny. I average 17.2 - 17.5 mpg. Over the years 2 water pumps, 2 alternators, and living in the mountains I get new brakes and rotors every year. Last ten years rotors are always warped. Biggest problem was secondary evap pump which cost me $2k. Seems this was a recall and covered for 10 years and/or 100,000 miles which I just missed. Fellow at dealership says he has never seen 2007 that evap pump hasn’t gone bad. My only issue is radio and cd player are shot, so that will be about $800.00+ to get it replaced with modern setup. Overall it has been a terrific vehicle. I would like a 2020 with upgrades.
I own a 2021 4x4 XP edition in Barcelona Red that I bought new and love it. Pros… The look and styling is timeless. Not class leading in anything but does everything well with no issues. Interior room & comfort. Rear doors open wide for loading. Full rear window that lowers. A few cons… Infotainment center is buggy. Don’t mine having a key but wish it was the folding type. Back-up camera doesn’t seem to be centered and take some getting use to when backing into parking spaces.
Hey Christopher, you should definitely have your back up camera checked out as it is completely centered on my '21. It may have been installed incorrectly at the factory and the angle may be off. The only thing that I noticed on my '21 is the top mounted stop light wasn't sitting completely flush on the roof. It sat a tad higher on the right side and it was an easy fix that I was able to correct myself! 👍
You right I own 2020 . I hate the fact Toyota goes to v6. My dealer has text, mail and many thousands of cash gift just to trade my truck I told them hell no. There is no way I would trade my v8 for V6. Toyota want V6 then sell it to your workers or engineers. Why can’t Toyota have 2engine options?
Just got my 2019 Tundra 1794 W/17K, I traded in my 2015 Sequoia Plat. They gave me 345K, man this truck is like new, looks and handles perfectly, here is the big one, I have a CD Player, that's why I bought the 19, anyway I'm happy, I have the window shades, and I bought a safe, changed the Air and Engine filters, right around 24 K all oils must be changed, Tranny, rear end, transfer case you know the drill, anyway Toyota is across the board the most reliable cars on the road, I also have a 22 4runner limited, so I'm in your camp, but it's sure good just listening to you ramble, but it's good to listen, we don't know it all. I think that the 2019, is the Boss of all the Toyota trucks, and did I say 1794, Hey, we could go on forever, yes your ride is super clean, you have to make that Blk pop like glass. OK take care and good luck, and take care of the Black Beauty.............BB
Army Green 2021 Trail Edition here. I love it. I do wish it hat the push start, seat warmers, and auto climate control of my 2016 Tacoma... but trading that for the huge cabin of the Tundra and the well proven V8 beats the features. (I know they are available on the higher trim models, but I love the 38g tank, too -- other than paying to fill it!)
@@Gmanautonut Yes your right George. I’ve been checking out some for sale in my area. Mileage is around 25K to 40K. You should be able to find one with 20K or less if you look hard enough. Maybe Untamed can find you a good one 👍🏼

Yeah. Putting a turbo on one side of a small engine with a loaded down truck on the other side is making that little thing work way too hard. In a sports car, it's OK because there's not much load. In a diesel, the engine is gigantic and built for pressure. I'm afraid we've entered a dark age for new pickups with these little engines with big turbos.
The decision to size down and turbo up isn’t coming from Toyota. It’s emissions standards they have to conform to. That’s the reason for the hybrid as well, not fuel economy.
I agree with this analysis, so I bought the best that I couldn’t upgrade (2021 Platinum) and upgraded the tech inside (decked out audio system). Problem solved 👍🏻
I bought a 2021 Tundra SR5 Sport with fewer than 10,000 miles on it in June. It is beautiful and solid. I am planning on having it for a long time, as I will not be driving it in the winter. It is a truly special vehicle.
Cement is my favorite color as well, but unfortunately it wasn't offered on the '21 TRD Sport Premium. MBM and MGM were my two top choices and I ended up with MBM. I do like the Voodoo blue, but I don't think it's a color that will age very well. The beauty of today is that one can always get their truck wrapped in any custom color that they wish. It's a great option to have as it prevents permanently having to modify the truck by having it painted and it will also protect your factory paint. 👍
I have a 2015 5.7 sr5 with some personal upgrades with 65k miles on it and I truely feel like it’s gonna be a classic one day. The body style and simple trim make it just feel like the very last old school “truck” made. No safety just a key and shitty head unit 😂
I have a 2021 tundra TRD pro, I wish it come with blind spot sensor and parking sensor assist. I also wish it have storages. An Toyota should have put a 10 speed transmission in it. But I do love my V8 and TRD exhaust system. I did some mods but nothing permanent. Wish I can still find Toyota add on accessories from the dealership but it’s getting hard to find. All the mods I don’t so far, I believe it should have come the dealership as a Standard equipment. Especially when you have the TRD PRO model. Look to add 4 more mods and will consider the truck complete. All the mods will be OEM except one accessories. I can’t find an OEM storage
I’m a wee bit confused. You seem to indicate you believe the 2020-21 the best Tundra year(s), but you also have created another video where you note the 07-13 Gen 2 Tundras were/are the best? I am in the market for my first Tundra, will likely buy used. The Tundra will likely be my daily driver, as I will be retiring in the next couple of years and the truck will be used for occasional light (under 5k) long distance towing, no off-roading, pe se, except to get to my fishing, hunting, mountain biking, skiing, and camping (small travel trailer) spots. videos are super helpful. Reliability is huge to me, and comfort, too. Any suggestions and tips are appreciated. Thanks!
Hi there! 07-13 is my personal favorite generation. 20-21 is the most well equipped years, while still being on the classic platform that everyone loves
2021 sr5 in white added leather most perfect machine I have ever had ..I hate to tell this but I am 69 and have had LOTS of trucks and 4 of those were Toyotas but no one can get this one from me ,not even for 10 k over purchase price.
I do agree with the 20,21 years being the greatest but I do prefer a key to a button and my 08 tundra grade I’ve had since new is just so simple and so powerful and in 145 thousand miles nothing has broke. Also it was during the recession when I bought it and they threw in free oil changes for life so I will keep it for the rest of my life.
You forgot to mention the 4.6 V8 Same as the 5.7 with a shorter stroke. Less power but slightly better mileage. Still a great motor like the 5.7. Million mile examples of those too.
@@TundraDude34I also bought a 2014 SR5 in 14 and still have it. Have the 5.7 in it and have no problems out of it. My first Tundra was a 2000 SR5 with 4.7 in it. Hi Mark. I've been absent for the past few months due to finally getting the back surgery I'd been waiting almost two years for. As fate would have it, this was the first video that I ended up watching as my curiosity got the best of me! I'm starting to really dislike your channel as every time that I contemplate selling my '21 TRD Sport Premium CM, you go and make a video like this! 🤣 Love the video and I couldn't agree more with your personal opinion. I purposely waited for the final MY with the V8 before finally making a purchase. Like many, I didn't foresee the demand and shortage for the '21 MY and I almost lost out because of it! It was only due to a last minute cancellation that I was able to purchase the exact year, model and color that I initially wanted to preorder. I cancelled the preorder that I had placed for a '22 Limited Off-Road in Lunar Rock and I've been living on cloud nine ever since! Once again your video has managed to convince me to keep my Tundra! I'm now going to have my new tires mounted on my new wheels this week and install them on my truck! Thanks again, Mark! 🤣😂🙏👍
I have a 21 Tundra and since I do not care about lifting the truck and I care more about the safety features, I personally prefer the 2020 - 2021 year models over the previous ones. In addition, push button is a must for my wife and the lack of the push button was the main reason why we did not buy the Tundra back in 2016 when we were in the market for a full-size pickup. I also agree that the transmission shifting and engine response is much better in my truck than the previous ones we test drove. BTW, the lack of a transmission cooler is a sad departure, especially for a truck that has a towing package. However, I will install one after the truck passes the 60k miles mark, hence I am out of the powertrain warranty and then I will have a piece of mind that my truck has the cooler and I will put a better radiator anyways than the original one. All other parts are OEM, the cooler/radiator is a very beefy one (forgot the brand name).
Wanting one of these tundra..... might get trade in my POS RAM for one , but i pull a 9k camper 3-4 times a year and not crazy about pulling that much with a half ton
Nice! I drive a beater Corolla most of the time and I have 6500 on mine. So when I get my truck state inspection, I'm done in 15 minutes. The inspector says it's still new 😂
I always buy much older vehicles, so I have a 2011 Tundra. It only has about 251k miles. Eventually, I'll probably get a newer model year. But, we'll see.
I’m keep my 2010 SR5 5.7 Double Cab with 6 speed tranny. It’s basic and outdated but old school reliable. This model you still have the key ignition. I’ll keep it till the wheels fall off.
What do people not like about the first generation Tundra? I really like the size. I’m looking to buy my first Tundra, which will be my recreational rig with occasional long distance light towing (light travel trailer). Reliability is huge to me, and I am not a fan of the bells and whistles direction of modern vehicles.
I have a 15 and 21 platinum in both. Love them . I'm hoping they come back to the V8 similar to what the raptor does. Maybe they combine the capstone with the trd pro suspension ✅🔥 and that is the only V8 they offer .

4.6 was absolutely a great engine, but the video is about the 2020/21. In those model years, the 5.7 was the sole engine option for the Tundra. The 4.6 was discontinued after model year 2019.
@@TundraDude34 My bad, of course you are correct. I just love my 4.6 Tundra..
The earliest 4.6’s had timing belts not chains. Two different engines. I like a chain inside my engine.
@@MajorCordite
That was the 4.7 that preceded the 4..6 and 5..7 the 4.6 is a 5.7 with a shorter stroke.
All the 4.6 V8's were a timing chain.
Love your enthusiasm for the Tundra and the various changes through the years. Love my ‘22 Pro in SO, but I nearly bought the ‘21 Pro in LR. Just couldn’t take buying a truck in 2021 with the outdated interior.
Then you’re okay with the crap V6?!😂
I just got my 2021 Toyota Tundra. SR5 with 35,000 Mi on it. I am 45 years old and I have never owned a V8, I have never owned a pickup truck. I have not lived. It's black on black on black. The happiness
Just bought a 2021 Tundra Trail Edition… cement grey
Love it love it love it!!!
Not too much tech and it’s a solid platform that I can upgrade what I want when I want!
Love the solid proven v8 and a truck that I will hand down to my son/grandson….
I was able to find a 2021 TRD Pro in Army Green last year with 20 k miles. I’ve had multiple older Tundra’s in the past and this model is by far my favorite.
Just a heads up, there was an army green pro in 2020, not 2021. 2021 is lunar rock
I have a 2017 trd off road. Love it and keeping it forever. Prices are crazy
Same same and same 😂👊 and you ain’t lyin!
Just bought my tran cooler as well (install in 2wk), did it change how the truck shifts like mark was referring to??
@@TonyTundra5.7 No, that's not what Mark was saying. They changed the tune in the computer and removed the cooler because Toyota claimed with the new tune it didn't need it. The tune doesn't know the cooler is there or not so it still shifts fast and is snappy especially in tow haul mode.
@@aprecision4013 thank you sir👍
I just picked up a 2021 Platinum Tundra.. been looking for months. Awesome truck
I bought a 2020 brand new. I still like it. I am liking what you are saying. I better keep it. Thanks Dude
Glad I bought my 21' smoked mesquite brown 1794 TRD crewmax in Dec of 20'. That's my "Lady" and I will never divorce her!! 😆

@@canadiandream12 I agree. I had to throw in some Husky brand floor liners. They have been awesome though.
Pros…
The look and styling is timeless.
Not class leading in anything but does everything well with no issues.
Interior room & comfort.
Rear doors open wide for loading.
Full rear window that lowers.
A few cons…
Infotainment center is buggy.
Love my 2020 TRD off-road 5.7 4x4.
2019 TRD pro super white dream truck
Army Green 2021 Trail Edition here. I love it. I do wish it hat the push start, seat warmers, and auto climate control of my 2016 Tacoma... but trading that for the huge cabin of the Tundra and the well proven V8 beats the features. (I know they are available on the higher trim models, but I love the 38g tank, too -- other than paying to fill it!)
I wouldn’t sell my 2020 Limited trd crew max 4x4. That 5.7 V8 is the S**T !!!!
Glad to hear. Im in market now for a 20,21 limited , platinum, 1794. I dont know what trim level yet

@@mikeyID they are hard to find now! Especially low mileage and colors needed
@@Gmanautonut Yes your right George. I’ve been checking out some for sale in my area. Mileage is around 25K to 40K. You should be able to find one with 20K or less if you look hard enough. Maybe Untamed can find you a good one 👍🏼
@@Gmanautonut I love my 2020 TRD 4x4 pro. Just gave my 1996 straight six F150 to my grandson after 30 years and 278,000 miles.
For the the price of haftons nowadays I rather get a 3/4 ton more truck for the money. That v6tt ain't for me, turbos belong in sports cars and diesels in my opinion but that's just me. Sadly my 2018 tundra is my last tundra ill buy, unless toyota comes back with a naturally aspirated v8.
I've got an 06 Sierra 3/4. It's a tank but a money pit. Parts on 3/4 tons are fucking ridiculous. I'm torn on this truck good and bad
💯
The decision to size down and turbo up isn’t coming from Toyota. It’s emissions standards they have to conform to. That’s the reason for the hybrid as well, not fuel economy.
@@vpd543let's all vote in hopes this change may take a change in course
Keeping my 2014 tundra 5.7 xspx 74k miles no issues.
I agree with this analysis, so I bought the best that I couldn’t upgrade (2021 Platinum) and upgraded the tech inside (decked out audio system). Problem solved 👍🏻
I’ve got a 2021 trd sport. Going to drive this beauty until if absolutely falls apart.
I bought a 2021 Tundra SR5 Sport with fewer than 10,000 miles on it in June. It is beautiful and solid. I am planning on having it for a long time, as I will not be driving it in the winter. It is a truly special vehicle.
I have a 2021 sr5 in magnetic gray. The v8 is magnificent. My only regret is not getting the cement color
I must say, I like the whistle more than the roar!!!
I have a 2015 5.7 sr5 with some personal upgrades with 65k miles on it and I truely feel like it’s gonna be a classic one day. The body style and simple trim make it just feel like the very last old school “truck” made. No safety just a key and shitty head unit 😂
I have a 2018 Limited Crewmax with the TRD Off-road Package in Cement Grey. I would trade for a 2020 1794 Crewmax in Army Green any day.
You betcha! Even better. 2021 DoubleCab TRD Pro in super white! 😉
Tough to find DC Pro. Nice
Never selling my 21 tundra CM 4x4 cement.
i got that one as well. 36k miles
2021 pro owner now but would argue cement 2017 pro is the one to have. No sunroof, bigger tank, and trans cooler.
You forgot to mention the 4.6 V8
Same as the 5.7 with a shorter stroke.
Less power but slightly better mileage.
Still a great motor like the 5.7.
Million mile examples of those too.

this dumbas downgraded to a 21 truck lmaooooooo poor judgement
Is the 2014 SR5 a good truck, or is it the same as the earlier tundra.
That was the first year of the refresh. I owned a 2014 SR5, it was a great truck.
Love the video and I couldn't agree more with your personal opinion.

The inspector says it's still new 😂
do you think the imax will hold up towing 8k lbs on a regular basis?
I just bought 2020 trd pro in army green. Only 48000 miles. Got it for 29, 500.
I think the hydraulic steering also contribuets to the old school, mechanical feel of the pre 21 gen, I just love the hydraulic steering
Agree with you, however I am still a fan of key start. UnTamed has a “jewel” of a truck. Hope he keeps it.
16-17 for me. Trans cooler, trailer brake controller, minimal tech
What do people not like about the first generation Tundra? I really like the size. I’m looking to buy my first Tundra, which will be my recreational rig with occasional long distance light towing (light travel trailer). Reliability is huge to me, and I am not a fan of the bells and whistles direction of modern vehicles.
Any issues with your truck yet?
I have a 15 and 21 platinum in both. Love them . I'm hoping they come back to the V8 similar to what the raptor does. Maybe they combine the capstone with the trd pro suspension ✅🔥 and that is the only V8 they offer .
