Tatsua is freakin' brilliant! I love what he's doing at Korg.
This feels like something Gamechanger Audio would come up with. It's always nice to see a bigger company experimenting with something new as well.
Or maybe SOMA Labs too
Was just thinking of that
Big SOMA vibes
I thought they were working on one, idk, so much gear and so many companies these days.
They did except it’s called the motor synth and it’s been out for years. Did he say the first acoustic synth!? Guys this is rad don’t get me wrong but go look at the game changer motor synth. It works with gears and sounds like this things bully.
Something like this with the playability of a Rhodes would be amazing. I love that Korg is always working on new stuff.
exactly what I was thinking, it’s like if you had a cyberpunk desktop rhodes
Takahashi is a living legend. Love his work. He is so young to have accomplished so much.
I think if they make a drum machine with this technology and use different materials for each drum part this would be the best drum machine released in years. Could be the next « 808 » revolutionary-type of gear. Each machine would have it’s own unique character and a natural feel
the 808 wasn't revolutionary at all.. it was a flop and then it actually died completley on the second hand market for over 25 years...
I purchased one in perfect condition in the mid 00s for $600. It's now worth $8000.
@@noname-ng6sj just because it was a flop doesn’t mean it wasn’t revolutionary. It was the first synthesized drum machine that wasn’t limited to preset patterns or using samples. Drum machines as we know them today owe most of their design and workflow elements to it.
@@olGrandpaby Wasn't the Linn Drum the first to do that around that time? I think most people settled for the 808 because they couldn't afford the Linn Drum which was the much more revolutionary and diverse instrument. Also if I'm not mistaken weren't the 606 & 707 released before it?
@@knives_on_static the Linn Drum and 707 were both sample based. The 606 and 808 are all analog but the 808 released a year before the 606.
Yea, imagine trying other metals as well and different thicknesses.
I really hope that they are able to bring some version of this to market. Takahashi is such a cool and innovative designer!
This is like: "What if synthesizers were invented in Victorian London, alongside Charles Babbage's Difference Machine?"
I hope it runs on coal fired steam.
They should lean into this, like, “Mr. Mieda’s Reso-Synphonium” or something
Damn korg you really did it with the innovation this time.
new models every week, never a firmware update. i love korg.
I must say I'd not expect something like this to come out from Korg. Very experimental, new territory stuff, I'd place with the likes of smaller modular producers or new to market startups. Great to see Tats on good terms with Korg and co-oping new possibilities. I wonder if this is going to fall into NTS family line up. I'm guessing it's not gonna be cheap considering how many mechanical parts are at the core of the sound source. Very COOL. 👍
It sure has an NTS feel to it
So this is like the Ebow for a guitar + a kalimba. Pretty cool.
I love using acoustic sources for synthesis but it always seems to come with a boutique price. Really incredible to see one of the bigger players getting into the game
I’ve literally just designed and built an acoustic synthesiser for my degree show (also believing it to be the first one), then one of my favourite designers drops this. 🤯 to put it lightly
The sound reminds me of a glass harmonica underwater. I've been complaining that nothing is being innovated when it comes to synthesis technology. In the 80s you had drum machines and FM synthesis, but in the modern era we're mostly seeing reissues of old gear but with more controls on them. This might be a real change for a new wave of synthesis technology.
OK - now I"m picturing the Volca Drum 9000 with physical resonators like this as the next iteration.
this is beautiful, and a lovely upscaling of the first synthesizers made such as Thaddeus Cahill's telharmonium from 1896 or the musical telegraph of elisha gray. i was hoping someone would revive those ideas. korg is my jam.
This is amazing, can't wait to see the final product!
Delighted to see Tats back!
Groundbreaking. Not suprised Takahashi has came up with this. I think everything he touches turns to gold.
Looking forward to see this.
Now I can recreate the opening of Ghost in the shell!!!
Your a genius bro❤
Amazing work! Hey Tats! I don’t know if you’re familiar with Andy McPherson’s magnetic resonator piano (MRP) I have played it multiple times (it was used for the soundtrack of Disney’s Christopher Robin movie) and it is a true acoustic synth as well. Have a check if you will!
Great to see Korg really backing this
havent seen much innovation from korg for a few years. this is cool.
After all these years Korg is still in business.
Korg hold on this dude.
I recently saw a video from a while back where Rob Scallon asked if an analogue oscillator means something physically vibrating, and also asked whether a spring reverb type technique could be an oscillator source; so I hope he's seen this because it's like both of those questions he asked coming back with a resounding yes
I was actually wondering yesterday what form an acoustic synthesizer might take, and if anyone had successfully built one yet. Now, I know what at least one approach to acoustic synthesis looks like! 🙂 Also, it's really cool when the universe answers one of my questions so promptly. Thanks, Universe! 😉
I can see this mans inventions be hugely impactful in the future
glad to know Korg crew finally discovered the Rhodes pianos... I
This is awesome ❤
Teenage Engineering would sell this for $4500 - if they could ever come out with something this cool.
4500 while on sales
Teenage Engineering stands to music as Ikea stands for basic ass furniture.
The Organelle is better. Change my mind.
teenage engineering could never design something this cutting edge - they'd rather resell cheap overseas toys for triple the price or pack a bunch of open source plugins and cornball graphics into a plastic box and sell it for 2k
Teenage Engineering has the worst customer service. They suck.
Really reminds me of the old electronic carillon bells that were used by churches (who couldn’t afford real bells).
If I recall correctly, some manufacturers found ways to mic different regions of the individual tines to capture different overtones present from each tine.
Seems like there is a lot to explore and I can’t wait to see what they end up with!!!!
I really hope this comes out 🙏🏻
Tats is my favorite in the game. I can't wait for this and anything else coming from Korg Berlin.
Too cool!
Sick! I want it.
Welcome back, Tats. Brilliant stuff.
this is incredible
Coolest thing I've seen from Korg in a long time.
I WANT IT !!!!
this is the best electronic music gear i can remember seeing
great! innovate
so how does it work? I understand there's a coil which would make a vibration but how do you get the attack percussion? just a strong impulsion? or is there a dedicated solenoid?
Very cool.
Damn. Just the other day, I was like: I wonder what that Korg guy is up to now?
What a clever idea.
Very innovative, but I’m curious how robust those tines are and if they can be easily replaced if warped too much or damaged.
Is the synth part doing something similar to an ebow to sustain the notes?
Wow this looks/sounds awesome! I'm excited for this. Amazing work Tats!
In similar news, Behringer is already working on a clone, called the Borg Bocoustic Bynthesizer, due to cost $139.99 US/129 Euros.
I cant wait to pay $5,000 for this.
In 2038
It won’t be that much. It’s korg.
If it were 61 keys, maybe quite expensive because it’s basically a rhodes piano with extreme options. But they could definitely do it more cheaply for an instrument at this size.
It's Korg, not Sequential
@@VuotoPneumaNN It will never be released anyway bro. Its a joke.
very cool
This is such inspiring..!
This concept reminds me of the Cicada Acoustic Synthesizer by Physical Synthesis
Tine Magic! I gotta have it!
Nice...could have done with turning the mic/amp up a bit, but looks like an interesting and interactive/tactile instrument. Funky knobs
If you run a company like Korg, this is the kind of guy you back a dump truck full of money up to his house to make sure he sticks with you for a while.
Hey Tats! I don’t know if you’re familiar with Andy McPherson’s magnetic resonator piano (MRP) I have played it multiple times (it was used for the soundtrack of Disney’s Christopher Robin movie) and it is a true acoustic synth as well. Have a check if you will!
when will it be available on Reverb?
I want this for bass
wow!! just. wow!!
Did Korg work with Paul Vo on this???? It works just like the VO-96!!
hmmmmm super interesting. is this possible with other material and stuff like string?
Tats is back!
That’s dope, I’m into it
this man, didnt even know there was a face behind it all. already a legend in his field and he is... in his early 30s? plenty to look forward to i am guessing
I'm going to need at least another octave on the keyboard
It's a really nice update on the concept of electric piano tines, I have never seen that specific form of prongs before.
Nice, I already have an acoustic synthesizer similar to this, called kalimba; but nice!!! :-)
This could be a new product family. Modern age kind of e-piano, drum machine, one with synthesis or all combined in one power house. Who knows but anyway really interesting concept!
this is really cool
this is essentially how the fender rhodes works...
Rhodes or Wurlitzer or both?
I’m not so informed about the internal workings of those instruments and this one.
But a new development based on those instrument is appreciated.
A bowed Rhodes with more than one pick-up, yeah why not
yep, came to my mind as well.
The lead guy in korg has led them to so much
This guy is the shit
MIDI in?
COOL
Soma Labratory Enner has a piezo pickup that lets you play on rubber bands or the box itself. So this isn't the only acoustic synth ever made.
Crazy looking device. Looks more like something you would see from SOMA rather than Korg. Very interesting.
Great. It looks like some electronic part of something he just found in the dump.
@@wolfgangdevries127 feels like TALES FROM THE LOOP, indeed 🙂
Not really my sound off the bat - but I LOVE the idea.
Very special. Well played for paying your engineers to mess around with this idea, Korg!
❤😮
I want that Korg t-shirt
same, I've just googled it but found nothing.
Simp
Amazing innovation ! - @Korg hope you used recycled paper for all the books !
Looks interesting
Korg showing once again that they are ahead of the curve and innovating with synths, rather than certain other companies just rehashing stuff from the 80s...
This is also a rehashing of old technology, with a new spin…
ever heard of the ms-20 mini
Hats off to Korg for not playing it safe.
soooooooo...... we are comming full circle from acustic piano to electronic synth to acustic synth? HAHHAHAHA jokes aside , its fucking amazing hopefully they keep developing becouse sonicaly *cheff´s kiss*
Sort of like the vo guitar or moog guitar with tines
A Kalimba with sustain and filters. Nice!! Sign me up. But please add lower notes to it.
Also what are those speakers?! Huge horns, look interesting!!
"real vibrating bodies" So, tines. Like an electric piano.
Yup. But plucking them electronically made more of a flute/organ sound. Fun idea. I like that Korg are doing out there stuff.
Seems a little like someone saw a Gizmotron and said "There's a lot more that can be done with this idea"
Wait until they discover pipe organs :p Very interesting idea in any case!
interesting
Tats is really the goat
So it’s essentially an electric Mbira?
Genius
A bit like a Wingie 2 from Meng Qi?
Can u play “Jump” on that?
This is fucking cool!
OOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooo
Why do I get the feeling, I'm never gonna see this again, lol.
WOOOOOOOOOU 👍🏻
ooooo
