- Wondering how best to use ankle holsters? What to look for when you're shopping for one? How to use one? Look no further. Alien Gear Holsters is here to give you the information you need on ankle carry.
You can see our ankle holsters online at: aliengearholsters.com/ankle-gu...
The biggest attributes you want from an ankle holster are comfort and retention security. These are important attributes for any carry holster, and they are certainly important for any ankle holster to have.
Many ankle holster designs are either a single strap or a garter-type strap system, which tends to slip over the course of the day. While they can be comfortable, many leave much to be desired when it comes to carry security. Additionally, many ankle holsters are "universal" designs that fit many pistols poorly, usually requiring a thumb strap to even retain the gun.
Therefore, take care to select an ankle holster with adequate support. It should be molded for your make and model pistol and offer sufficient retention without need of an active retention device.
You also want to select an ankle holster that can be adjusted once you put it on. Height adjustment is also a good attribute for an ankle holster as well, which can accommodate multiple types of footwear throughout the year. Strap adjustment is also necessary.
Ankle carry also imposes certain requirements on what clothing you choose for carrying.
You should choose pants that are loose enough to let you easily draw the lower pant leg above the handle of your pistol. If you have issues getting your pant leg up your calf, then they are too tight. This doesn't require you to wear bell-bottoms; any relaxed-fit pants will typically work.
Now, ankle carry is typically reserved for a backup gun rather than a primary carry gun. It is easier to access while sitting or if you wind up on the flat of your back, but is difficult to access otherwise.
Make sure to practice the draw from your ankle holster. Clear your cover garment with your non-shooting hand. Bend over or kneel to get to the pistol rather than bringing your leg up, as this will compromise your balance. Also practice accessing the pistol from a seated position.

A great primer on ankle carry. I am glad to find a video on ankle holsters that provides accurate information, not just tries to sell me something. The principles discussed apply to just about any ankle holster you may have, not just Alien Gear.
Skinny jeans are a bad choice, period.
Fact.
Even being a former skateboarder I agree bad choice if you are older than 17
Time for Jnco Jeans to make a return. 😄
Female poster: Skinny jeans make legs look like sticks/chicken legs. Leggings fall into the same category of 'ick'.
I like them cause they are less likely to snag something and the ladies love how they look on me.
Great guide. I watched this "live" on FB.
Good presentation guys. As an owner of one of your iwb holsters
I can attest to the quality of build, excellent design, and situational usefulness. Keep up the good work
Thanks so much for the kind words! We love that you love it!
Question? Can you ride a bicycle or walk/move freely with said ankle holster
I think/feel I'm sold. Will be ordering thanks guys. Great info.

You know the shape shifts could probably fit into velcro belly bands like of your competitors. Just a thought. I'd like to try a band, but prefer to actually have real trigger guard. I have this ankle holster for that very reason and its great.
Mine just came in for my Springfield Hellcat OSP, i work outside all day running my lawncare business. So i move ALOT, hands down the best holster i have used so far for a small emergency pistol. Usually when riding the mowers the bumps would shake around the other holsters and pistols, had it fall out before with others. It now stays in place and is super easy to get to.
MY ONLY COMPLAINT. first layer you wrap on your ankle to steady the shank, i think it would be better if it was already attached at the front with a stretching material, then followed by the strap it already has.
U stated that correctly. The only thing I hate about this holster is the ankle/ heel piece that you put on first. I am going to get someone to see an elastic strap to the front of that so it braces it completely otherwise it pretty much barely hangs on to the tip of my heel only because of the weight and little stick brace that goes into it. My 2nd option is to order the ankle/ heel piece for someone that will use it on their right leg (left hand draw) that way it can be used more like a sock with the neoprene on the front
I also have 2 Hellcat OSP. 1 with a Red Dot and 1 without
Great video! I love your holsters! I'm going to have to add one of these to my collection.
In a wheelchair here, just trying to find a comfortable holster, spent too much money on holsters that just don't feel good
Hello! We definitely have holsters that will work for you! Please send us a message at support@aliengearholsters.com. We would love to help you out!
another wheel chair user here, i have been carrying for 9 years now. ankle carry is great for me do it every day with my sw shield or glock 26. i have not used alien gears holster and may not due to the part that goes under the heels seem excessive and for someone who has issues with their legs and feet difficult to put on. i use the desantis apache ankle holster and never had a issue. the hard shell of the alien gear looks awesome though even only they removed the heel part. also a chest rig works great for wheel chair use, no hassle with a belt digging it to the waste and its accessible. i do carry IWB once in a while when i cant wear a jacket to cover a chest rig the brands i have tried are desantis bravo concealment and galco and love them. wearing a stiff belt does both the waste a bit after several hours but in specific situations its a must and just moving around a bit helps. i am in no way bashing alien gear holsters i personally do not own one yet i am doing my research as well on their chest holsters and ankle holsters to see if they will work for me.
Yesterday, I wore mine for the first time in a long time. After putting it on I knew something was not right, could not figure it out. Wore it for several hours. Was looking for a holster for a new gun I bought when I looked on your web site for the ankle holster I was wearing and then I realized I forgot the small first thing you are to put on. Still was comfortable without it.
We're glad you figured it out, it is a lot to take in. And thank you so much for being a part of the Alien Gear holster family. We appreciate it!

Good stuff. Thanks alot guys....
Great job
Just received mine the mail today. I'm definitely going to need to wear longer socks when wearing this holster with tennis shoes, or else the stiping on my gun is going to rub all the hair off my inner calf....either that or I will end up pulling them out when trying to draw. Love your modular holster system. I already have the starter pack, and I ordered this with a new shell, so I can switch between my 1911, Shield, and SR9c.
Looking for an ankle holster alien gear is looking very good so far. Con looks like it can not be twisted to the front
Got to admit. I have a galco ankle holster. And while it's great, the alien gear is superb. I really like it.
Just got mine for my mp shield 9. Admittedly the included documentation was confusing and I was getting frustrated. Thank you for this video and for clarifying how this ankle system works. I carried a Glock 27 in a standard ankle holster from other companies and was never really happy with them and always was paranoid that my gun was going to be exposed. I think with this design, a lot of my ingrained fears are well addressed. Thx.
Glad to hear it! And we're happy that the video was helpful as well. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out over Facebook or get a hold of customer service at (208) 215-2046 or email them at support@aliengearholsters.com

OUTSTANDING ankle holster. Just got mine in today. And! Even with my S&W M&P9 2.0 4.25 metal. It fits. VERY well. Al tho! I had to put 2 hafe inch cuts both sides of my blue jeans to slide the leg part over the ankle holster. I'm looking for tactical pants that have a wider leg portion to easily fit over the ankle holster
You ever find any? I am looking for some good tac pants now also
@@johnathanlatman2507 Good evening. Yes. 5.11 Website. 👌. Good pants.
Good video, I picked one up a few days ago and it's taking some getting used to. There is a plastic piece on the trigger guard of the shell that's definitely a bit uncomfortable if you wear the holster in a higher position. So keep that in mind. It's especially worse if you have a higher boot on that comes up around the gun and pushes the gun even harder into your leg. I've found that loosening the straps up just a tad bit helps. As for this video I would have suggested that you show how to assemble the shell into the right configuration to use with the ankle holster setup. Maybe a few up close shots of the assembly and adjustment. Other than that, great guide to the best ankle holster on the market in my opinion.
Thank you I was wondering about that, I'm a female I love my Timberland boots during the winter time😂. I wear the higher type boot. Unfortunately, this would probably be a no go then, SMH!! Once again thank you for the info
@ Sure, glad the information was useful to someone!
Hey Nate & Tim... I currently when needing to ankle carry use an Original Lou Alessi Ankle Holster for my J-Frame... love it and seemingly comfortable for most of the day! Considering one of your rigs for my S&W Shield Performance Center (LH Shooter/Right Ankle draw)... GREAT Video and question for Nate...What style of Shoulder Rig is that you are sporting? (I'm a BIG Shoulder Rig Supporter, mostly Original Alessi Horizontal configuration) Thanks Much. Mike...
Mike it's an Alien Gear Shoulder Holster. Watch our newest video on the Shoulder just released yesterday. Sorry for the delayed response
Does the bar that goes down into the shoe uncomfortable if you are out at work for an entire day? Also, does that strap that goes under the heel become uncomfortable by the end of the day?
Please make this and a ShapeShift for Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 9mm compact.
They do. Just got mine
just got mine also
How do you like the 2.0? I’m looking at getting one and want to get some opinions on it. Everything I’ve heard about it is good but I want to hear from someone who has actively trained with it long term
@@amb158 I have a compact and the performance center if you didn’t buy it yet I encourage you to get it asap
@@choicefamilyfirearms I ended up getting a full size HK vp9. Couldn’t be happier with it. It’s an awesome gun, only thing I wish it had was double single action and maybe a decocker, but I knew it didn’t have those when I bought it, still very pleased with it.
When are you going to show some love for the Kahr PM9 owners. I bought a version 3 Cloak Tuck holster a couple years ago, and really like it. It would be nice to be able to upgrade to the new stuff.

I'm looking for a good 380 holster for running. Prefer ankle since I wear running shorts and no tension on the waistband?
Guys need to make one for the Ruger LCR 357 that's a great stub nose revolver for going down in an ankle holster
Hello DJ. Thank you for your feedback. Regrettably, Shapeshift is not yet compatible with revolvers at this time. The injection molding of each shell must be very precise and match the firearm.
This can be a bit more of a challenge with the cylinder to accommodate for, instead of the shape of the trigger guard.
We may explore into this further as time goes on, so be sure to subscribe to our newsletter if you haven't already for the latest updates!
On that note, our sister company, Tactica Defense Fashion also has an ankle holster that might work with your Ruger LCR .357.

Best ankle holster on the market. 🥾
How well does this work with a walther pps m2? Looking to get my concealed carry. I am a 22 year old 160 lb 5'3" male and always loved to idea of an ankle holster.. Its harder to conceal being small, and since im low to the ground... In the terrible case that id ever have to use it... Im close enough to the ground and feel very comfortable with the draw
I know this comment was a long time ago, but I have a pps m2 and it’s too heavy. You won’t want to lug that thing around all day
It looks like a nice comfortable holster, how long will the velcro and elastic hold up before it needs replaced
It should last as long as you need, but the whole holster is covered by our lifetime warranty if you are worried about it. :-)
What about a 38 special. Does the trigger part help with that with the shape of the gun?
I was extremely skeptical about this holster but now I love the thing. I'm carrying an M&P 40 shield, original performance center model. Zero printing, gun doesn't budge no matter what I do. Jog, lift, jump, doesn't matter. Very secure and deep concealment
What gun you running?
When will you offer this for a gen 5 Glock 26?
Wish y'all made one for a Kimber micro 9.
I got a quick question I ordered the alien gear ankle holster and I love it but I have one single problem when I look at the reviews when the gun is put in holster there is a audible retention click that locks gun in place but when I do it I don't hear a audible retention click that keeps gun in place the gun just goes in with no retention keeping gun in place
There should be an audible click, if you can't hear it when you holster the gun, try adjusting the retention up a little bit and see if that makes more solid. If that doesn't work, feel free to reach out to customer service at (208) 215-2046 or email them at support@aliengearholsters.com and they might be able to help you more. We also have a Lifetime warranty on the holster so you can return it for a different one if something is wrong with it. Hope that helps!

What if you want to carry on your left leg, on the outside of your leg/ankle? Can you simply buy one for the right leg and it work the same? I shoot ambidextrous but carry on my right side. Should my right hand become disabled in a self defense scenario and even my primary handgun too, I will want to be able to draw from my left but concealed at my left ankle.
Was wondering that very same thing myself. I see they still haven’t answered your question in 2 yrs. Hmm…. 🤔
I really want to buy this ankle holster…but unfortunately Alien Gear doesn’t mold a holster for either of my carry guns “ M&P Bodyguard .380 & Ruger security 9 compact.
I want one of these for work. I’m a contractor and am in a lot of random neighborhoods a lot of times with a lot of valuable equipment. I’d prefer to have something on the ankle because then I’m able to tuck in the shirt and wear the tool belts and shit. JUST in case. Does this lock?
It does not lock but there is an adjustable retention piece on the half shell side that can keep the gun from just falling out.
There is a fully adjustable retention system to make sure you can secure your gun to your need. And we also offer a 30 Day Test Drive guarantee on every holster allowing you to return it if you are not fully satisfied. Can this be worn with combat boots?
This is the perfect RZR or SxS carry
Is there a way to adjust the retention on this holster? I thought I’m supposed to turn the square indentation piece next to the skull on the side, but I wasn’t given a tool to do it? I tried the locking clips like someone suggested online and those are plastic “/polymer and they don’t fit either.... help please lol
Hey Joe! If you have the ShapeShift ankle holster, you can use the Alien head/Skull-looking nuts to turn the square indentation to adjust the retention. You use the side of the skull looking locking nut. Here's a video that will help. I had it start at 36 seconds in so that you can see the important part right away. ua-cam.com/video/WmJZo14pHdM/v-deo.html&t=36

Will it accommodate a Ruger Security 9?
How about xds 3.3 with red dot attached? Will this accommodate? Adjust to?
Will this holster work on a hellcat with a red dot?
Please make this holster compatible with 8 inch duty boots and j frame revolvers. Thanks.

Another important tip, is as you dismount from your truck or exit your car, adjust adjust your pants around the holster which sometimes might ride up exposing or printing unnecessarily.
Are y’all going to make one of these for the hellcat??
We're sorry for the inconvenience. We do not have an exact time we can give for its release as the guns we mold for are contingent upon the volume of requests we receive for it. Please make this for S&W J-Frame, it's impossible to find an ankle holster for that class with a rigid material over the trigger guard!
Hey Austin! We added it to the Wishlist, but at this time, we do not have definitive plans to put revolvers into ShapeShift yet.
Can a kit be made for a Rossi 38 special snub nose ?
After looking for a while I coming back to Alien Gear to buy. The only problem would be is that my G2C has an ArmaLaser installed on it. Will I have to remove the laser or can I mod the holster like I did on my other Alien Gear Holsters?
Hi Squirrell, as long as you are modifying the Cloak series holsters they will retain their warranty.
I put my ankle holster on my knee... pistol is basically strapped to the side of my knee, basketball shorts + conceal carry.
I would never carry 1, always have a secondary that takes the same mags.
How do you adjust the retention?
Would the Glock model holsters fit the polymer 80 equivalent frame size since the under rail is different?
Hello Robert. We apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, our shells will not work with the Polymer 80 frames at this time. Please feel free to give us a call at 208-215-2046 so we can add your gun to our Wish List. This way, we can notify you via email if anything changes.

That ankle holster is an engenious design.
I am thinking about developing a kit that creates a slit on your pants and closes up with magnets, so you can slide your hand into the slit quickly and draw faster.
it will be a below the junk carry, that the gun is carried in a level 2 retention holster on the inside of the thigh with your pants giving full concealment, again a slit seeled buy magnets is your access point.
To further elaborate the slit kit will have the ability to blend with most fabric. It will have reinforced points and guiding sections so you slide your hand straight down to defeat the enclosed cloth and your hand will be on the gun in an instant.
I would really appreciate your input.
Will y'all make one for a S&W bodyguard 380/no laser?
It looks like they now make the laser built into it, so it is unlikely we will be making a holster for it without the laser, unfortunately.

Hello Spencer,
Our ankle holster can be worn above boots that are shorter than 4.75" from the heel.
The gun will ride in boots taller than 4.75" from the heel.
It works great with cowboy boots, or any other type of boot you can swiftly clear your pants leg over.

Can J wear a western boot with this holster
Ask J.
And for those of us who wear 8” or higher boots? Doesn’t seem like it will work very well unless you are wearing low top shoes or boots.
Yes, that's why it is an *ankle* holster
Nate mentioned safety is one of his key reasons for looking the ankle holster. Yet he's wearing a shoulder holster??? You can't draw from the shoulder without flagging at least yourself, and/or everyone on your weapon side. Great concept, but I don't know if I'd try this one. The jury is still out
Though slightly tricky, one can safely draw from the shoulder holster (with training) without flagging anyone or yourself.

Hello Hunter. We appreciate your feedback.

If using ankle holster As primary fire or secondary carry take a knee behind cover and wait for the poor sucker to come for you.
You’d also need a pair of pants that are not only loose but long enough, not to reveal a holster when you sit down and the pants are yanked up as a result
Shouldn’t have to bend down why not make it to be drawn from the outer leg ?
