It would be a big success if they also would have- mickey's beignets, the dole whip, the candy apples, cupcakes, corn dog. Basically all of their special park signature foods
Dole whip can be found at a lot of ice cream places now, I think theirs would be too expensive in comparison to the local shops that have it for a lot cheaper. It’s also available at grocery stores now which is cool!
No because they would need to sell it for like half the price they could in the park and it would make people mad about paying the price they actually want to charge.
@ the prices in parks around the world unfortunately are always high, not just disney. but in a restaurant or fast food in the mall it will be cheaper.
I had a friend who would ask her kids if they wanted to Disney World! She then took them to the Disney store in the mall telling then it was Disney World. They had no idea until they got older
When I was a kid the store had the costumed characters and performers put on a show, scratch that, actually all sorts of shows used to be at the mall, Thomas the Tank Engine, Bananas in Pajamas, other IP's, all for free.
I’m not sure if many people would be too jazzed about Disney-themed takeout after that cross-contamination lawsuit earlier this year. Disney refused to take accountability for a death caused by one of their own park restaurants; what makes you think they’d be more careful preparing food in a giant mass of kitchens and delivering it from a distance? Don’t get me wrong, it sounds like an awesome idea, but the disgusting way modern Disney handled that case leaves me worried about what else they might try to get away with.
That wasn't a disney owned and operated restaurant, just a third party leasing the space, but claiming they are immune to a lawsuit because of a disney+ trial sign up is an even worse look.
I mean...you technically COULD do a Mickey's Ghost Kitchen, as long as you use the Steamboat Willie version, since that's public domain now. You could also use Winnie the Pooh
You still cant use the image to profit. Specifically on Whinnie the Pooh... Didney still owns the rights to their version. Like teehee haha public demain is funny or something, but the joke is tired and I really wish people onew how trademarks worked. You still can't just slap Steamboat Willie on everything and not expect legal repercussions. Disney's been exploiting this for ages, they know their loopholes.
The Mickey's Kitchen x Wendys logo goes hard! I would also love to see that menu come to fruition, I wonder how hard it would be for Disney to actually get Butterbeer haha
I've watched a lot of Disney History videos and this is the first I've heard of this "MK Ultra" restaurant. Technically though if anyone let alone an established chain wanted to open their own, they could bypass Disney if based on the 1928-29 B&W era with Steamboat type theming. If public domain allows for a slew of low-budget "mouseploitation" horror films (I'm aware of six projects next year), then you should be able to order delicious stews from employees dressed in outfits inspired by the early cartoons.
Love the shoutouts for woodfield - and if mickeys kitchen opened there, we would be there in a flash. That’s our local mall that we’ve grown up with and are so happy it’s still surviving and thriving! We would want the drinks & snacks from La Cava to make it, along with the Satu’li canteen bowls & woody’s grilled cheese and grown up lemonade 🙌
I think it would be awesome to have physical restaurants outside the park that feature icon food from the theme park. Also I've wondered why the Looney Tune characters died out. Mickey and the gang are still going strong. I think that would be a cool video. It's just interesting to think about, why some cartoon characters aren't popular anymore. Maybe it's because Mickey continues to have shows made and has a park that keeps him relevant and Looney Tunes doesn't.
that would definitely be an interesting topic! Especially if I loop it in with their relationship with Six Flags. I feel like I would have to especially because that is kind of my username. 😂 thank you so much for watching 🙏
I think with Looney Tunes it's because they have a more "purist" (although not without reason) and smaller fan base than Disney, and they tend to want to go off from classic Looney Tunes when starting a new project. I don't necessarily disagree with this as a Looney Tunes Show enjoyer and fan of classic Looney Tunes. I think it can work. But a lot of Looney Tunes fans just would like more classic style Looney Tunes and not much else which I don't necessarily disagree with either, especially because I liked the Looney Tunes Show because it maintained a lot of the humor just in a different format.
I feel like gideons could easily just open their own stores in the Chicagoland area. Especially because that market is very interested in expensive sweet treats already, with a bunch of donuts shops doing well there 👀 Thank you so much for watching 🙏
I never knew Mickey's Kitchen was a real thing! Wow! And I remember going to the Disney Store but it didn't have the restaurant in it. Can see why it didn't work out. However the mini corn dogs from Magic Kingdom are definitely iconic to Walt Disney World parks. I also love the cheeseburger pods from Pandora at Animal Kingdom. They could change the food items yearly to reflect the popularity of what foods were popular or something. I could see Disney using it more as a ghost kitchen concept but honestly I don't trust those kitchens. But Disney is usually pretty good on food safety from what I remembered back then.
Cheeseburger pods from Pandora would be great! I think a seasonal menu would be a great choice as well, really reflect stuff that’s currently going on in the parks! Thank you so much for watching 🙏
Been to Woodfield all my life. First time probably 30 years ago. I never saw Mickey's Kitchen :( I probably wasn't paying attention when young to the food places. But yes went to Rainforest Cafe a ton. Was sad when they removed the fish tanks.
Isn't food at the park overpriced? that's why you wouldn't see a Disney fast food place, people can just go to McDonalds or something and save a ton of money.
Surprised to hear a veggie burger from 1991 was good 😂 I remember seeing something about a yogurt stand at the california location. I had so much footage from the chicago spot that i kinda chose to focus on that one. thank you so much for watching 🙏
This is something that actually feels like that they did that was like done 30-40 years too early, if they did that now there would be a lot of people that this would actually attract considering the modern Disney adult demographic
That’s exactly what I was thinking, kind of why the second half of the video is leaning a lot on that. Just by the slight chance that it might actually happen, I could be one of those weirdos who claims it was my idea 😂😂

Awesome vintage footage of the old school Disney Stores I'm a 90's baby Millennial so I def have Nostalgia of going into them in the 90's and early 2000's

Disney has a long history with Woodfield Mall. Didn’t know it also involved food. I signed several of my DVC contracts at the old “Doorway to Dreams” store.
The issue is if they ever done it again, they'll likely do the "cheap" route like they did before. It would make more sense if it was a restaurant with a lot of their more iconic eats, but I doubt they do that unless it's the more cheaper ones, like the spring rolls (which is what I'd personally want). A thing that would be an issue is affordability. Snacks and quick service prices are expensive in general, but it's in the parks, however, this is outside of that and so I believe even if it was in the food court (instead of in the store like you said) the average customer might move past it if they keep it the same price point as they do in the parks. If it's a massive tourist place, it might pass, but if not, people in the area won't buy it. I'm surprised they didn't go to Mall of America originally, but I guessing it's one of the most expensive malls to get a store in. However, I'm sure it would've been there eventually if it was successful.
mall of America would’ve been a great spot! especially considering the amount of oddball fast food locations they had like Hulk Hogan’s pasta 🍝 😂😂 Thank you so much for watching 🙏
@@bezoticallyyours83 Amazing observation, Captain Obvious... True and the issue is Disney won't make their cheap food "cheap". That's why a restaurant like this wouldn't work today.
Another interesting video Ryan. Honestly I had no idea that Mickey’s Kitchen was ever a thing, much less the ghost kitchen concept. I can’t think of anything Disney fast food or snacks that I would want to eat at home. That’s one of the main reasons to travel to WDW, the food we can’t get anywhere else. 🤗
Thank you so much! There’s some really fun videos in the backlog (some featuring kristen as well 😂) thank you so much for watching and checking out the channel 🙏
Earl of Sandwich is at the Springs still right? There’s already a foot in the door. Plus they can use their locations of the Earl all around. Dole Whip!
Honestly if they already have the infrastructure there and a working relationship, maybe they can convert some of those 👀😂 Thank you so much for watching 🙏
Okay I wasn’t going to comment, but I just got back from Disneyland and had a raspberry rose macaron from the Jolly Holiday Bakery… and apparently that’s the only place you can get these across all Disney properties?! So damn good. I’ll be thinking about it the rest of my life. 👌
I briefly (2 weeks it was awful lol) worked at the production bakery at Disneyland and got to make 1000s of those. It was the only thing I liked there, along with the Mickey gingerbread cookies! Once i quit i was obsessed with those two items and just made replicas at home! The macaron is so good, there’s like half a carton of fresh raspberries inside 🥲
Mickey's ghost kitchen would go so hard. Unfortunately I wasn't able to experience the og as I was a baby when it closed, but if it was a thing, they need to have all of the best snacks/food from the parks
everytime i see these videos i feel like han solo saying is true all of it, we had malls that were popping we spent friday nights watching full house we shopped at the disney store and ate there, the 90s were just special.
@ I’m not sure they make the Chocolate Mickey Waffles jet, but that would be a great addition 😃 We do love the Chocolate Waffles from Ale and Compass that they serve for breakfast, that’s were we got the idea from, they are called Chocolate Waffles with Dark Cherry Compote and Espresso Mascarpone Cream 😋
Shoutout to my local Disney Store that closed in 2021. I am friends with many of the CMs from that store, and we hang out to this day! Now my closest one is either Lancaster PA or NYC :(
This video was exploding with nostalgia for me! The Disney Store and The WB Store in Topanga Plaza and Northridge were my homes away from home when I was little, I also still have the McDonald’s glasses and plates, as well as a Mickey’s Kitchen cookbook! I think Mickey’s Kitchen could work now as a pop up but maybe a physical location as well since there’s so many Disney adults now. I feel like Mickey and Minnie’s Soda Fountain on Hollywood and Highland is the closest we have as of now. Excellent video, you’ve earned a subscriber out of me! 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
Reminds me of a Swedish fine dining restaurant that was once a chain which translated to "Water Boiled Fragrance Fish" They went from 1 in 1998 to expanding to 51 locations in Europe by 2008 and now back down to just 2 restaurants by the end of 2018, 1 in Stockholm and Gothenburg. They were once operating in all the Scandinavian countries and Finland. They were supposedly created so people can have a fine dining experience for the price of fastfood and was essentially a high end restaurant that served fast food.
Last year, a higher scale Disney dining experience opened up here in Mexico, it's less fast food and now restaurant/café faire. There's only one location so far but it's good! And located within a larger anchor store in a mall.
I’ve always thought that Disney should open up a series of hotels around the country. The main shapes like a castle with connecting buildings. Buffets and shows, meet and greets and maybe even a waterpark.
16:05 I definitely want a Mac & Cheese Hot Dog with bacon bits, a dole whip float & Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich if they ever brought back Mickey's Kitchen.
I gotta go with Sanaa bread service, the churros from Nomad Lounge, or a Ronto Wrap. I would love to see any of those things local to me. But great video, literally had no idea about Mickey's Kitchen.
kinda surprised Kristen didn’t mention the ronto wrap. I even forgot about it! Nomad churros would be a must as well 🙌 Thank you for checking out the video 🙏
i remember the disney store over in the coral square mall, i miss it dearly and always wondered what happened to those statues they had around the store
Omgi didn't realize you guys were from the Chicagoland area?! Me too and We went to Mickeys Kitchen numerous times while it was open bc we lived around the corner...and I still remember to this day those seasoned Mickey shaped fries they were soooo good and nobody believes me that they existed 😂
I can see Disney doing some kind of substitute Disney Park experience where it’s just a hotel and three restaurants with a really cool pool and character meetups. No rides or anything like that. Just something to get kids in the Midwest hooked on Disney.
I remember the Mickey's Kitchen at Montclair in the early 90s. I really loved the fries there back then. But maybe that was my biased undeveloped palate. No idea. The whole place was a vibe I absolutely loved.
Boy wow ive only ever been to Disney once when i was a kid but like definitely add the micky ice-cream bar things ob stick and like food from mickys backyard bbq witch is like the only things i remember eating when i went lol
I really miss Disney stores as they originally were. They were so full of whimsy and a bright spot at my local mall. It genuinely felt like a little slice of the park plopped into the mall. I was really disappointed when the redesign kicked in and the space was remade to look like every other reatailer.
I live a few miles away from the Mall of America, and if there was a heavily-themed Disney parks restaurant experience there my family would be frequent visitors! I’m still sad the Disney Store at MoA closed down during the pandemic. It opened up when I was only two years old in 1992, so at the time it had been there as long as I could remember. It was open for 29 years when it closed down in 2021. 😢 I’m also sad that Camp Snoopy turned into Nickelodeon Universe instead of a smaller indoor Disney park of some sort. 😅 I understand we could never have a REAL Disney park here in MN because of the snow, but where better to have a miniature Disney park than inside americas biggest shopping mall? 😆 Anyway, great content! Loved the video. Keep up the good work!
Interesting video. Hey, your pal (Kenny) put it out there that you promised him that you are going to sneak him into Epic Universe. Is this true? Tell him that he needs to sneak you into Hershey Park! 😂
Lmao, you’re the first to make it here and say that. Kenny is mistaken. I never said that. I believe the quote was “If I have a team member friend who can get you on a preview I’ll hook you up” but that would be after I get myself in of course 😂 I’ll make it out to Hershey next year 🙌 Thanks for popping over 🙏
I remember visiting the Disney store in my local mall all the time buying mostly plushies I will always miss that store but now it’s only a memory in my head
Ughhh I miss the Disney stores so much… I just can’t believe the closest Disney store to someone in LA is literally Disneyland 🙃 Earlier this year when commuting home from school (college) in Riverside, I stopped in Ontario to see one of the last remaining Disney stores. It’s so sad that there’s so few left and how they’re just not the same 😓 used to frequent Northridge, that was the Disney Store of my childhood 💔 obviously I am way too young to remember Mickey’s Kitchen, as it was around a good 10 years before I was born, but so cool to hear about. Would love something like that today between Disney trips. There’s so many Disney adults it would honestly maybe work 😂😂
I haven't been to woodfield mall in a bit, didn't know the rainforest Cafe was gone Also a problem with a place like woodfield is that the mall doesn't really have a food court. From what i remember the places they have for food are scattered around the mall
If done right a revived version of this with park food/snacks would slap. I love the Jack-Jack Cookie Num Nums in Disney’s California and my only complaint is that they don’t sell them in smaller bite-sizes for taking home. Honorary shoutout to ESPN Zone’s (It IS technically a Disney restaurant?) mac and cheese, the way they topped it with shredded cheddar was unique Btw after chatting with a cast member about this, she said technically Mickey’s Kitchen still legally exists, he just made the unfortunate mistake of selling the rights after it went under to his longtime friend and business partner who debuted a retooled concept at the Disneyland Hotel, of all places. “Pretty ‘goofy’ business decision if you ask me,” she says…
they gotta bring it back but each location has a walk around mickey or chef goofy for meet and greets etc. as well as have some park food and some of there own take on fast food with characters fries etc
around that time every mall had a Disney store..a year later most were gone..because they never changed the stock or the look..what ever you saw in the store on day one...was exactly the same as day 101
gotta have a good bit or money to eat at Rainforest Cafe quite often. My last experience at the one outside animal kingdom was crazy expensive... but delicious.
Ah yes I remember the Disney Store in the Glendale Galleria, its not there anymore and as kid I was more into the pet store and KB toys even the WB store with its interactive displays
I honestly never thought I would see Pauly D in a Disney history video, but I am so happy I did
Pauly D italian subs coming soon to hollywood studios! Replacing pizza rizzo 😂
If I can't do quick service in the parks when I am legitimately hungry, why would I need it in my hometown mall? Oh Michael.....😂
Hahaha I don’t blame ya, no wonder it didn’t work 😂

However, I'm sure it would've been there eventually if it was successful.
mall of America would’ve been a great spot! especially considering the amount of oddball fast food locations they had like Hulk Hogan’s pasta 🍝 😂😂
Thank you so much for watching 🙏
I mean, fast food is supposed to be cheap.
maybe the idea might work against Disney then if that’s gonna be keeping people away from the parks 😂😂
Thank you as always for watching🙏
This made me remember the old Disney and WB shops in Bluewater, Kent, an hour from where I live, they were so cool to look around
I had no idea you did Disney history videos. I’ve seen you on Kristen’s channel. I love these types of videos.
Thank you so much! There’s some really fun videos in the backlog (some featuring kristen as well 😂)
thank you so much for watching and checking out the channel 🙏
Earl of Sandwich is at the Springs still right? There’s already a foot in the door. Plus they can use their locations of the Earl all around. Dole Whip!
Honestly if they already have the infrastructure there and a working relationship, maybe they can convert some of those 👀😂
Thank you so much for watching 🙏
Amazing video! I would set up a popcorn stand in the corner of it like Main Street confectionary.
@raspberryjamz ooh that gingerbread Mickey cookie was the other thing I had! Both exceptional 👌
Thank you for your service 😂
Mickey's ghost kitchen would go so hard. Unfortunately I wasn't able to experience the og as I was a baby when it closed, but if it was a thing, they need to have all of the best snacks/food from the parks
This is such an Eisner moment.
hahaha one of the lesser known failed Eisner projects for sure! 😂
😅
Citizen Eisner
Woodfield is my home mall love to see it get mentioned!
everytime i see these videos i feel like han solo saying is true all of it, we had malls that were popping we spent friday nights watching full house we shopped at the disney store and ate there, the 90s were just special.
Thanks Ryan for this video! it's a great production. However its distracting me from editing :)
Haha so sorry! Get back to editing!
Thank you for watching 🙏
Hi Ryan!
We would love Mickey Waffles, including Chocolate and Churro Mickey Waffles 🧇
Thank you so much for another great video 👍🏻
I’ve never had chocolate Mickey waffles!! where do they serve those? I definitely want to check it out. 😆
Thank y’all so much as always for watching 🙏
@ I’m not sure they make the Chocolate Mickey Waffles jet, but that would be a great addition 😃
We do love the Chocolate Waffles from Ale and Compass that they serve for breakfast, that’s were we got the idea from, they are called Chocolate Waffles with Dark Cherry Compote and Espresso Mascarpone Cream 😋
Shoutout to my local Disney Store that closed in 2021. I am friends with many of the CMs from that store, and we hang out to this day! Now my closest one is either Lancaster PA or NYC :(
It’s sad to see the mass closures that happened in 2021, they even closed the original store 😫
Thank you so much for watching 🙏
Dole whip, cheeseburger pods from Satuli, the spring rolls and rotating favourites from Epcot festivals
That dad was so wholesome. I hope he’s doing alright
He was killed inna car accident about 10 years ago.
Ohhhhh Ronto Wrap is a good one!
kinda surprised Kristen didn’t mention the ronto wrap. I even forgot about it! Nomad churros would be a must as well 🙌
Thank you for checking out the video 🙏
i remember the disney store over in the coral square mall, i miss it dearly and always wondered what happened to those statues they had around the store
Seems like Disney didn’t understand that one of the keys to a successful restaurant is good food 😂
There food is okay, but not great. And certainly not worth the price they charge most of the time. I remember liking their spaghetti.
When my girlfriend and i moved in together we realized we made a full set of the mcdonald disney cups. We use them to this day. 🤣
Omgi didn't realize you guys were from the Chicagoland area?! Me too and We went to Mickeys Kitchen numerous times while it was open bc we lived around the corner...and I still remember to this day those seasoned Mickey shaped fries they were soooo good and nobody believes me that they existed 😂
that’s amazing! super jealous you got to go!
thank you so much for watching 🙏
@@ForTheLoveOfThemeParksVlogs core memories for sure love your content! ❤️
Great choices! That ice cream bar is iconic!
Thank you so much for watching 🙏
@ForTheLoveOfThemeParksVlogs you're welcome! Keep up the awesome videos!
I really miss Disney stores as they originally were. They were so full of whimsy and a bright spot at my local mall. It genuinely felt like a little slice of the park plopped into the mall. I was really disappointed when the redesign kicked in and the space was remade to look like every other reatailer.
MICKEY MOUSE AND DONALD DUCK SHAPED FRIES?!? I wish I could go back in time for that!
Anyway, great content! Loved the video. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for a neat vid
There was a Disney store in the uk at a shopping center, i haven’t been for 2 years though so I don’t remember if it was still there.
Spring rolls are the easy target. I’m not even a dole whip boi but maybe a good idea 😂. Lex says Charcuterie from baseline laugh😂.
I believe the quote was “If I have a team member friend who can get you on a preview I’ll hook you up” but that would be after I get myself in of course 😂
I’ll make it out to Hershey next year 🙌
Thanks for popping over 🙏
brb searching for mickey’s kitchen merchandise online
You’ll have to let me know if you find any!
Thank you so much for watching 🙏
McDonalds has the best toys and gets the best licenses. 😊
16:02 I've never had Disney park food but chesse burger spring rolls sound delicious
I remember visiting the Disney store in my local mall all the time buying mostly plushies I will always miss that store but now it’s only a memory in my head
Fascinating!
One video and I smashed the subscribe button. Hope that guy eventually got food
There’s so many Disney adults it would honestly maybe work 😂😂
I haven't been to woodfield mall in a bit, didn't know the rainforest Cafe was gone
Also a problem with a place like woodfield is that the mall doesn't really have a food court. From what i remember the places they have for food are scattered around the mall
If done right a revived version of this with park food/snacks would slap. I love the Jack-Jack Cookie Num Nums in Disney’s California and my only complaint is that they don’t sell them in smaller bite-sizes for taking home. Honorary shoutout to ESPN Zone’s (It IS technically a Disney restaurant?) mac and cheese, the way they topped it with shredded cheddar was unique
Btw after chatting with a cast member about this, she said technically Mickey’s Kitchen still legally exists, he just made the unfortunate mistake of selling the rights after it went under to his longtime friend and business partner who debuted a retooled concept at the Disneyland Hotel, of all places. “Pretty ‘goofy’ business decision if you ask me,” she says…
Great video!!!
3:38 me currently listening to this at my work less than a mile from Woodfield mall😂
A take out only place that serves theme park and fair food style food would be cool to see.
All we want are the churros. Place a bunch of those carts in malls around the states and you got a new money maker.
they gotta bring it back but each location has a walk around mickey or chef goofy for meet and greets etc. as well as have some park food and some of there own take on fast food with characters fries etc
The flametree bbq mac and cheese would be my menu add on option😋
around that time every mall had a Disney store..a year later most were gone..because they never changed the stock or the look..what ever you saw in the store on day one...was exactly the same as day 101
Whenever we make a trip home to Anaheim, we need to get Banyan Beef Skewer from Bengal Barbecue.
Disney can't seem to make long lasting experiences outside of their parks. They fold instantly whenever an external influence is introduced.
gotta have a good bit or money to eat at Rainforest Cafe quite often. My last experience at the one outside animal kingdom was crazy expensive... but delicious.
Ah yes I remember the Disney Store in the Glendale Galleria, its not there anymore and as kid I was more into the pet store and KB toys even the WB store with its interactive displays
I'm sorry, but those Mickey and Donald fries are gonna have to be served at the parks now.
