Authenticity is the only option for survival on this planet 🌎
Beautiful! Thank you, Billy!
As a little gay boy in the 70's and 80's, I learned to hide who I was and what I was, constantly pretending to be something else in order to survive. The psychological grind and complete mind f--k is so hard to describe, it literally, slowly kills you. Eventually you say no more and become Billy or you die. I have many friends that put a needle in their arm, a bottle in their mouth or a gun to their head but I somehow survived. Seeing Billy on national TV makes me smile so much....Love ya, Billy!!
❤️❤️❤️
I totally hear ya. I’m a native New Yorker, and was in the advertising business as an art director, and even there, in one of the most liberal cities and industries, it was still who could you trust. The paranoia of losing your job, or “Gay bashed”. It was such a huge relief to finally just be fully out, professionally, as just my authentic self in the 90ties. Here’s to all us trailblazers, and a mighty roar for all the brave young LGBTQ folks out and proud today! ⭐️🌈🌟
❤
❤❤❤
Carl I am glad you are with this ❤️🏳️🌈
I don’t care if he is just reciting the ABCs, I am always amazed and inspired by Billy
Validate yourself. Speak life into yourself. And go out and save the world ... Porter
I wan this on a t-shirt!
His joy is infectious, I think we all needed to hear that being Authentic to Self is a Mainstay & very liberating...
Wow, 8 rings and that suit with the platform shoulders and split sleeves! Maybe I'm too impressed by the exterior, but to me it says "Why hold back?"--and I love it!
As someone who has almost daily struggles with self-acceptance and being confident in their own truth, Billy'a words were refreshing.
❤️❤️❤️
This was a certified "integrity" classic
I will ALWAYS watch Billy Porter interviews
Billie has this unique New York swagger, he s smart, talented, inspiring and most of all he stuck to his guns and is finally globally established. He s the best friend I never knew I had and I feel lucky in his presence 🍾❣️🌟
He has the swagger of a successful performer alright, but he was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, attending a performing arts high school there, and even getting his BFA in drama from Carnegie Mellon. I feel that his roots are a big part of what makes him so lovable and authentically himself 😊
Billy Porter is such an Icon! Thank you for sharing your authentic self with us, Mama Lola!
Much love for Billy Potter. Positive vibes from New Hampshire, remember to be kind to each other and yourself during this pandemic and social crisis
Just a couple more Billy Porters in the world and humanity might be ok
Had the privilege of seeing him in this role! He had this magical energy and it was amazing 😍
Billy Porter's energy is wonderful!
Billy Porter makes me happy!
Billie seems like a wonderful human. So happy to see him thrive!!💜☮️
He is gorgeous in every way, and quotable! He is an inspiration for anyone who knows shame, societal and familial judgment, hiding, to come fully into your truth. And even though I’d never look as good in that outfit, I so want it!!!!
Billy Porter, the truth you speak takes my breath away!
Billy Porter, you inspire me!!!
Love me some Billy Porter. He was great to work with on Pose, and to see him on Colbert (a show which Ive also worked on) is great.
wise words from a wonderful person
Loved this, thank you Billy!
Billy is an inspiration, even for those of us who are least familiar with his work. Great interview,
I didn't really know Billy Porter. I like him a lot! I appreciate his wisdom and authenticity.
Her biji Billy Porter! Right on! "AUTHENTICITY"! Thank you! Really thank you. ✌🏿
Billy Potter is AMAZING!
Billy Porter is just so talented and an awesome human. Love him!🤗
Amen Billy Porter - amen!
Damn. He hasn't even started talking. What a BEAUTIFUL human.
He's majestic
Love ❤ everything about him!!! Can we talk about that fan?! ❤ 💙 💜 💖 💗 LOVE IT 😀
Amen Brother Billy! As a baby boomer lesbian who came out in 1973, it’s been a long challenging road. So enlivening to see how far our LGBTQ community has come. 💖
❤
❤️❤️❤️
👍💚🧡💜💛❤️💖👍
I love Billy Porter. He is how I feel sometimes. I only wish I had internalized the "be authentic regardless" message earlier in life when I was *younger* and more attractive. And old "nobody" can be authentic all day, nobody cares.
Yes! Love him! Love his style! 💋😘
LOVE You Billy Porter!
It really is the only way to be.
I would have loved to see Billy Porter in “Kinky Boots”. He just nailed that part in the excerpts I have seen.
An American icon 👏
Yes, as well as a national treasure! 👏👏😍🤩
Well said Billy
Loooove Billy!!!
The fan moment at the end….GIVE ME FACE
LOVE Billy Porter!
Billie is such an amazing human being. This is the greatest piece of advice that anyone can give or get. Being authentically you is the greatest gift you can give yourself.
For sure about the not requiring exterior validations. Happily watching this dressed in flip-flops, sweatpants, and a T-shirt. If I get really fancy today, I might brush my hair.
Validate yourself. Preach!!
Amen. I've always felt not good enuf and my self was defined by other's opinions.
THANK U BOTH
ZO VERY MUCH,
ZTEV❗️E & B❗️LLY ❗️❤️❗️❤️
& Also For Committing To
Working WITH WTP-A & TWC.

Oh wow I'm subbed to his channel. Billy really falls into his performances without being too hammy, but he is still in the mix with it. He seems like a genuine person, and that seems pretty rare. I like the fact Billy cares about other people being themselves and hope he's helping people in the LGBT do the same. Bigotry sucks in any form where it's homophobia or ageism or sexism or racism. They're all expressions of Hate and Ignorance, nothing more.
I Love me some Billy Porter. :D
What a heart opening interview!!!
Thank you!
Lil Nas and Billy together. They would dim the 🌞 Priceless $$$
I love you Billy Porter!
There are not accurate enough words to describe how much I love and respect Billy Porter.
I love this guy, so inspiring!.
They are both so inspiring ❤️ this video. Wow . Even 1 + years later ;)
At leisure is fashion. Buying your book, dahlink. 💕😘
DAMN RIGHT BILLY
Hear, hear… 🙌🏿
No slam here, but; This One is Little-Richard's Great-God-Child! ! To, be Bold enough to 'come-out' is one thing. Then to do so as a Minority, is another. To Put This 'ON Stage', well, yet another step-up! I 'get-it', how some are uncomfortable with this progression , but it's needed If we are to Accept that our World deserves this level of Talent. And, racist, best you check whether your mom's watched and liked, Danny Kaye, in the day.
I'd have thought the post zoom fashion scene would lead us straight to the 'suit-shirt-tie-jacket-no pants-little socks suspenders' look.
It's what everybody wore anyway.
Eye expect a Great Ball of🪨 🔥 any second now. S&G 2.woe.
Somebody get that man an $8000 sweatsuit!
I love him. He's also gorgeous and to bad he's gay but I still love him anyway
Love Billy but as an older bisexual he's NOT the first just the most visible for this generation. I grew up with Bowie, Boy George, RuPaul, the incredible Pete Burns, Freddie Mercury, Grace Jones, Divine, Amanda Lepore, and Candy Darling...even adorable Uncle Miltie aka Milton Berle. Billy just has social media and PR but the above paved the way by the sweat of their wigs, the holes in their stocking, the runs in their makeup and swagger that never fades.
:DDD
#vogue , real men on dress
His advise sounds good on stage but not in the real world. People r shitty to others. I've been fired about 50x in 20 years for being trans (real talk no exaggeration).
Everyone loved me before my transition. Silly me, i thought they would get past "it".... Nope.
I haven't had any relationships with friends or family since. There was about 100 family members and many friends. I was always the person that was invited to events first.
The only thing i changed about myself was my clothing....
I've had 2 people call me this year, 2021....its now November.
I transitioned before all the " woke" nonsense. Nowdays i can barely maintain my mortgage because of constant ignorance and fear.
I'm pleased that my wife supports me but her family bailed on her because of me.
Does anyone here knows what it feels like to not be allowed to celebrate holidays, birthday's, anniversaries with the people you care about?...
I'm almost 50years old and I've been pushed out of life, family and friendships for being my "authentic" self...
My favorite is how many time i've been thrown under the bus by the so called LGBTQ "family"
I think the hardest pill to swallow was when I reached the point that I was completely passable that's when I got the worst abuse. When people would find out they would feel betrayed. And they didn't take it as a small betrayal they took it as a gigantic, monumental betrayal. Betrayal is reciprocated with disgust. Disgust is brought on by fear, then hatred, then violence.... I'm not going to list all the horrific things that has been done to me at this time but i will say it's a long list.
It's all bs.
Here's a real advice... keep your "authentic" self hidden away from the world.
Faceted ink studio, what you’ve been through & are going through is awful.
I don’t have any deep sage-like advice to share with you except the following & it’s very simple: it’s hurts like hell to be rejected by people you love because they can’t handle the person you now are. However the bright side of this is that you find out who really cherishes you, you mentioned your wife -> love & cherish her, forget about the others (I know it’s hard, but you need to “cut your losses” & move on with your life. )
That will mean going outside your comfort zone & creating new friendships with people who will accept you & love you for who you are no matter what.
Full disclosure: I’m a married woman (traditional heterosexual, cis-gendered, etc.)
I almost died during childbirth & delivery, I lost so much blood that I had a stroke (I was a young & very healthy woman when this happened. I was in a coma after the birth. Somehow I survived but I was so damaged both physically & cognitively by the OB’s screwup that I couldn’t return to my career -> I was a pediatric surgeon & loved caring for others both w/in my vocation & in my personal life.
When I became disabled, my heart was further shattered (& shocked) by all the friends & family who no longer had any use for me because I was no longer the person I once was. That was 10 years ago. With TONS of therapy (physical, occupational, speech & of course psychological) I’ve been able to cobble together a new life. Through it all my husband has loved me & cared for me 1000%. I now have a new life, with a few of my old friends but I’ve made new & precious friends who accept me as I am.
Yes, our lives are very different but I see the important common thread that we share:
you & I have both fundamentally changed, we’ve been rejected by those who we cared for because they couldn’t handle that change. I think we’re both lucky, because we’ve been freed from the people who were really dead weight in our lives.
Like the old saying, “ everyone wants to ride along with you in the limousine, but you find out who your real friends are when you have to walk or take the bus”
I wish you all the best 😊!!
@@madyjules06 Thank you for sharing your story. This past year I've done a lot of soul-searching. I've learned a lot about myself. I've also learned the old saying "you don't know what you don't know" rather well, LOL. I found out that I didn't know as much as i thought i did.
General consensus, there is a lot of that in the 40s hehe.
You possess Amazing will power. I believe you're right. I even agree. I'm hung up on 1 little thing,
Is my decision a choice between being an outcast that can't support my own family or be treated like an idle, a hero, etc., that could possibly write my own ticket.
Is the grass greener?
In my case -
"We suffer far more in our own imaginations" - stoic philosophy

I'm astounded with what you overcame. /tipsmyhat.
I will think deeply on your words.
Thank you for the dialogue.

Love your work my brother I was good friends and work with Ozzie Davis I am international recording artist Joel Crafton aka Black Pinoy Multi music awards you can contact me me through my website.
I hope there's a real person under all that performance.
Billy Porter is more REAL than you apparently.
"Your authenticity the only option to survive on this planet"? What a load of naive tosh. Talk to the hand, Mr. I made it so I'm gonna give others stupid advice. Try to make it as gay in Nigeria, Uganda or Russia, Billy Porter.
He was a gay balck man in the south in 1970& in NYC during the Aids crisis. This i not someone speaking from a place of privilage
I was hoping the US would follow China banning such individuals from TV!!!
What are you afraid of? Rhetorical question.
Change the channel.
You’re SICK. Get help.
You are uneducated about life, infested with hate and prejudice, missing the essence of life, and perhaps need to develop your own being rather than imagining you have the right to sit in judgment of what you haven’t a clue about. You can’t see this fine man’s strength, beauty, talent, compassion, creativity, humor, on and on-are you simply jealous or simply bereft of experience and understanding of life? After you develop your own mind, heart, and being, come take another look at the great Billy Porter and hopefully you will have learned to appreciate him.
