How to Replace Inner Tie Rod Boot aka Steering Rack Bellows

  • The boot over your inner tie rod aka steering rack bellows protects your steering linkage from dust and grime. It is important to replace these if they tear or are damaged in some way. It is quite simple, most weekend wrenchers, or pen-pushers like me, should be able to do this quite easily. I am doing this on a Honda Accord 1997.

    What if the air connect is suppressed when you put on the boot

      Hi Debra, you will have to pull it back out. It is important to have it connected so that air can flow. :)

    Never use zip ties, they break and your bellows will be chewed up by the hydraulic piston
