  • Element resistors, or Shunts, are produced using a solid piece of resistance material. Shunts are commonly used to measure the current output of a circuit. The voltage drop across the extremely lower resistance value can be used to calculate current flow in high current applications.
    By measuring the voltage across the shunt and knowing the shunts resistance value, we then can calculate the current I = V / R

      Thanks Mick, I'm starting my final year this Thursday, it's going to be tough! 😭 oh and you won't believe it, the very next day after I commented saying the Bluetooth speaker was bullet proof, my daughter smashed it to bits lol going to need to do a repair job on that lol

    Thanks brother.
    By the way this jumper wires affect the measuring because of the there resistance.

    The accuracy of the displays on similar power supplies may not be very accurate at all values. I suggest a 4 wire measurement where you measure the current and voltage to eliminate the influence of the power supply display accuracy. Nice work.

    just starting electronics and this was very helpful.i am advised I need a shunt resistor or resistance to get good component trace on scope.
    I am trying to setup an oscilloscope with a built in waveform generator to produce visual of component curve traces.
    does the component bing tested need a certain value shunt resistance ,or do I have to try several resistors to see what gives best visual trace?
    thanks

    vERY GOOD CONTENT.When you measure ohm with your fingers are in contact with multimeter probes will affect the reading where precision is needed(depend how moist your skin are)I am trying to fix my RND or Korad KA320-3005D 30V 5Amp dc bench power supply where i made a fool,s mistake and blew the reverse protection diode and the 7 wide winding .s(to avoid a short)1.2mm thick wire. Wire is not clean copper i think,cause it is stiffer than a copper wire.Do you have a tip witch type wire is used?.On EVVblog forum i can se pictures of this part in a Korad psu same as mine but no usb out.schematic show a value of 0.1 ohm 5 watt.Seems to be a strange low watt value on that psu.I have 2 identical if i need +15 zero/common and negative 15 as example.Any tip you can think of?

    Good vid. The reason why the calc is a bit off is because you measure in between/halfway the wires and clips. The cables and clips you are using also have some resistance especially at a higher current. When you put the shunt at the beginning of the wires it will be more accurate and measures the current thru the whole circuit (with all the losses).

    why can't you just put the multimeter in series to get the circuit current, 690mA is quite high - most multimeters will even have a micro ammeter setting won't they?

    • @HamedAdefuwa
      @HamedAdefuwa  Рік тому +1

      I used this shunt on a PCB I made, so I use it in place of a multimeter so that my Arduino could know the current input/output

      @@HamedAdefuwa ok cool thanks. Sorry last question, how did you know the resistance was 0.01 ohm, did you use a separate circuit with 2 multimeters then to find V and I and then R?
