What do you and almost every other reviewer mean with "I'm not fond of how the buttons are laid out. The power button *NOW* sits above the volume buttons."? I have the Pixel 2 XL and Pixel 5 and it's always been this way. Power button on top, volume buttons below it.
This, wow, so glad I am not the only one that noticed it this year! It's like all of them suddenly "discovered it". I think that MKBHD has mentioned it like it was a "new thing" and now everybody repeats that although, as you say, it has been this way on all the Pixels and Nexuses before. And all those reviewers had Pixels before! It baffles me. Love Thao, but I just had to comment :)
I bought a pixel 6 last week but the camera would freeze when trying to scan my paperwork via my work app. Never had an issue with my company app scanner before on my previous Samsung S7 & pixel 2xl devices. My Verizon dealer exhausted every related app & camera setting to reinstalling the app to updating the app to re-powering the dam thing but just would not fix the problem so returned it & got a Samsung 20 FE instead. Not to mention I found it generally unwieldy to operate. Disappointing...
Yep. I fail to see the issue here. I've heard others complain. Why does the power button get used the most as she says? I never need to use it unless I turn off and on.
I've only had one other Pixel, so I wasn't sure. I thought about commenting on that as well. Strangely, there are multiple other reviewers that have mentioned the button placement being odd.
It's great to see the battery life of the Pixel 6/6 Pro get a substantial improvement. 2 day battery life needs to be the *standard* for all flagship devices, whether you're with Apple or Google. That, alone, is making me consider getting the Pixel 6! 💪🏻

it's the first time to see a vid about it with a pro on battery life for the 6/6pro though, I've been watching a lot reviews now and the best so far was a ok and a lot of meh on it.(ok 1-1,5 and meh below or max 1 day) I hope 1,5-2days will be correct, I've pre-ordered the 6 as I'm not happy witht the battery life of my current one ;)

I think you hit the nail on this one. While the Pro model is nice for some of the additional it has, $300 extra kinda doesn't warrant it. Plus the boxy design on the Pixel 6 is rather nice too. I think I'll go with the Pixel 6.
I'm really glad you mentioned the screen protector issue on the curved screen. I didn't even think about that because it seems like every other reviewer just keeps their phones naked.

Also, the fact that she doesn't rush her reviews means that she's sometimes a little late compared to others who want to hit embargo. Thao, I am an s22 ultra holder. I love it, but I just grabbed the Pixel Pro two days ago. I did after I listened to your tutorial. I am super satisfied with the Pixel Pro to the point where I may never upgrade my Samsung phone again. Just wanna say thanks for your tutorial. She's so young. Back in the good-ol-days, the Power button used to be on top of the volume buttons. Phones were much smaller, so your thumb could comfortably reach it.
This review was JUST what I needed. I've been with Samsung since they released the galaxy S4 lol. Making the switch to Google was scary but I absolutely love it. No issues connective to my watch active 2 either. Thanks for the video!!
@Philip P I actually ended up having issues with the phone. fingerprint reader is light years behind Samsung, no facial recognition, android 12 on pixel is barely customizable unless you root the phone and the battery took FOREVER to charge and battery drained so quick even on power saving mode AND i couldnt believe no charger was in the box. I went home and had to buy one rhe next day lol.. the camera was great but I still prefer Samsung. Ended up trading it in for a galaxy a52 5g and I'm loving it. I say stick with your s20. Google is headed in the right direction but they're not up there just yet...
Finally Subscribed (thought I had done this previously) This was a simple but great review. Too often "reviewers" spend too much time comparing the Pixel (or other devices) to an iPhone or S21 instead of just talking about the phone. That info has its place. This was breath of fresh air.
4:52 - Why do people keep saying that? This button arrangement has been the same on every pixel I've had. I think it was that way even on the Nexus line. It's not new. Pixels have always had that button arrangement.
I recently got a Pixel 6, and I totally agree with you on the power button placement, can't tell you how many times I've locked my phone during a video playback while trying to change the volume
for me it was a no brainer. I'm currently rocking a pixel 2 xl 64gb, and find myself always running out of space. I went with the pro 512gb. Can't imagine I'll ever run out of space, and I just wanted all the features, and the additional ram. I have had my 2xl for 4 years, so barring anything drastic, I can see myself keeping this phone for 5 years especially since google has said they will guarantee security updates for 5 years.
I think the regular looks just as good if not better in most of the shot’s you took. I don’t think the extra would be worth it. Nicely, balanced review. Nice to have another person to get tech information from.
When you say your husband is a 'point and shoot' guy so he doesn't care about telephoto lenses...maybe my interpretation is different, but to me, a point and shoot experience is where the photo ends up good without having to edit the brightness, exposure, etc aka image processing. I'm speaking from an S8+ standpoint where, as far as selfies go, I always have to lower the brightness or something. From all I read, this is just how Samsung processes images? Does the Pixel have better image processing or does it really come down to preference?

Thxs Thao for naming a lot of the differences the other TechTubers forgot to mention that I've been trying to explain to ppl for the past few days lol. Most didn't mention the haptics ,speakers , selfie video resolution, brightness . the regular 6 is still missing UWB , stainless frame , and of course the smaller battery, lower res selfie cam , GG victus only on the front , mm wave 5g , 120hz , 1440p, and no telephoto . The mm wave 5G alone is $100 extra which is why Verizon is charging $699 for the smaller pixel 6 because there's have mm wave 5g

Wild how different everyone's battery tests seem to be. MKBHD reported roughly 4 hours of SOT while you got 1.5 days! I'd guess reviewers are measuring differently but still, that's a stark difference. Hopefully my results are closer to yours haha. Ordered the 6
One feature you didn't mention that makes a good difference is that the Pro has a sound cleaning filter that filters out wind noise and background noise when you record/talk on it

I agree with every thing you said about curved screens. I am distressed that I won't be able to get a good glass protector for the Pro I couldn't-not order.

And, I actually like the look of the 6 better than the Pro anyway. Especially for the $300 difference! Google hardware has finally arrived though. Because the 6 & the Pro look great and are worth the price. I'm just going with the 6 this year.

I couldn’t agree more on the cons of a curved edge screens , I have had three android phones all with curved edge screens and tried on each one to get a tempered glass screen protectors to stay on for any length of time and all failed , and some of them where the expensive ones too also fitted by phone stores , I gave up in the end. My iPhone 12 Pro Max has had the one tempered glass screen protector on it since last year, and still looks perfect.
Doesn't mean it is correct. It is widely accepted that the power button should be lower. I hate my wife's 4a 5G. I've owned motorola, HTC, Samsung phones and never seen this opposite placement.

I just got a Pixel 6 today. Not the pro. I looked at the Fold 3 on display but they had none and to be fair the price was rather obnoxious. I'd like to totally invest in Google products, like a laptop and maybe a tablet. Get a Google home or two and really throw myself into what the company is trying to do. I've owned a few apple products, but mostly android phones. This will be the first Google phone I've owned and so far I love it. One complaint I thought you would have mention is the reverse charging. I don't think it's bad that you can charge stuff with the pixel 6. It's that the back is also made of glass, which while from a consumer stand point is a premium feature, charging things is kind of a pain due to it being so slippery. An example, when I purchased my phone today I also bought the Pixel Buds. There Googles own branded air pods basically. And you have to charge them on the back of the phone in the little case. Even though it's slightly magnetized, it slides EVERYWHERE. And I'm not sure how efficient, if it all, it would be if you used a case with a more textured grip. It's a small gripe, but a gripe none the less. I however really love the sound out out from the phones speakers. I'm coming from an A71, which was a mid tier Samsung phone with a really good camera. And it only had a single down firing speaker. This has stereo sound from the top and bottom of the phone. I played genshin impact and the sound was awesome. I really loved it and it enhanced the experience. Great review on these two awesome phones!
I went with the normal 6. I could care less about selfies. The telephoto zoom would be nice but the digital zoom at 7x still looks good on the normal 6. Also I like flat screens.

My guess is people are noticing now because the size (especially on the pro model) is bigger than they've ever been before.
Pixels, I think have always had the Power button on top - They usually had a nice color on the Power button as well

If the 6 Pro had a flat screen I'd have bought it, as you mentioned, screen protectors for curved screens are a nightmare. Great compresion.

Very slow! I actually had to take my screen protector off because it wasn't even recognizing my fingerprint with it on.
@@melk2601 you can edit this in settings to make it more sensitive with screen protector on. Go to settings>display>increase touch sensitivity

I got the 6 and I'm happy. I was a Moto fan for years but a short support time is a bummer. The 6 is cohesive, good and reasonably priced.

This was an excellent review... Thanks for actually breaking down all aspects of the phone rather than all these other terrible reviewers on UA-cam who just focus on the camera. For God's sakes people if you want the best camera you can get by an SLR not a phone.

I agree with every thing you said about curved screens. I am distressed that I won't be able to get a good glass protector for the Pro I couldn't-not order.
I've found the glare you get from the curved display negated the smaller bezels and made the screen feel smaller.
New fan. New subscriber. I love that you're talking about screen protectors and what not. As a OnePlus 7 pro user. I'm over the curved display now. And, I actually like the look of the 6 better than the Pro anyway. Especially for the $300 difference! Google hardware has finally arrived though. Because the 6 & the Pro look great and are worth the price. I'm just going with the 6 this year.
curved displays need to go away. I"ve owned many samsungs with it and i hate it. I want the pro but that screen.... sigh.

I'm sorry but why is everyone buggin out about the button placement? The power button has always been above the volume rocker on Pixel devices.
I have a theory that the power button was placed further up as most people probably use tap to wake these days, I'm probably wrong but I hardly ever use my power button because of this

Thanks for this. I was supposed to get the Pixel 6 Pro today but decided to send it back to Google and get the Pixel 6. I saw that the Pixel 7 is releasing this fall and I couldn't justify spending $300 more for the Pixel 6 Pro when I will probably upgrade to the Pixel 7 Pro after it is released.
What happens with battery life?? what's true in the end? MKBHD said Pixel 6 Pro has a downside, its battery that lasts 3,5 to 4,5 hours screen on time. Thao says that the battery is super and lasts 1.5-2 days.

Google did metion that the onboard AI learns your usage and will adapt to the user accordingly.
why did you skip the iphone review? you got it way earlier then these two & yes we have many reviews but would have loved your opinion on the new ones.
FYI the pixel 2XL and the 3XL both have the power above the volume buttons. So its actually a normal Pixel placement.

I couldn’t agree more on the cons of a curved edge screens , I have had three android phones all with curved edge screens and tried on each one to get a tempered glass screen protectors to stay on for any length of time and all failed , and some of them where the expensive ones too also fitted by phone stores , I gave up in the end.
My iPhone 12 Pro Max has had the one tempered glass screen protector on it since last year, and still looks perfect.

Doesn't mean it is correct. It is widely accepted that the power button should be lower. I hate my wife's 4a 5G. I've owned motorola, HTC, Samsung phones and never seen this opposite placement.
@@neilprasad007 it has literally never been a problem before. It might be annoying but it's something small you can get used to. I never had an issue with it on my 4XL

I just got a Pixel 6 today. Not the pro. I looked at the Fold 3 on display but they had none and to be fair the price was rather obnoxious. I'd like to totally invest in Google products, like a laptop and maybe a tablet. Get a Google home or two and really throw myself into what the company is trying to do. I've owned a few apple products, but mostly android phones. This will be the first Google phone I've owned and so far I love it. One complaint I thought you would have mention is the reverse charging. I don't think it's bad that you can charge stuff with the pixel 6. It's that the back is also made of glass, which while from a consumer stand point is a premium feature, charging things is kind of a pain due to it being so slippery. An example, when I purchased my phone today I also bought the Pixel Buds. There Googles own branded air pods basically. And you have to charge them on the back of the phone in the little case. Even though it's slightly magnetized, it slides EVERYWHERE. And I'm not sure how efficient, if it all, it would be if you used a case with a more textured grip. It's a small gripe, but a gripe none the less. I however really love the sound out out from the phones speakers. I'm coming from an A71, which was a mid tier Samsung phone with a really good camera. And it only had a single down firing speaker. This has stereo sound from the top and bottom of the phone. I played genshin impact and the sound was awesome. I really loved it and it enhanced the experience. Great review on these two awesome phones!
I went with the normal 6. I could care less about selfies. The telephoto zoom would be nice but the digital zoom at 7x still looks good on the normal 6. Also I like flat screens.

I dislike curved screens. Samsung has been annoying me with them for years. My Pixel 6 Pro is on order and no one had touched on the curved screen so far in my viewing. Appreciate the detail and warning!

Two days of battery life isn't realistic. I've got the 6, end of day it has 35-40% left. With medium usage.
