- Gimme Shelter is one of the most famous songs of the British rock band The Rolling Stones. Charlie Watts' drumming is outstanding and the music he created throughout his time with the band changed the international music scene completely. When we recreated his legendary drum sound ( • Charlie Watts - The Ro... ) we chose the song Gimme Shelter as one of the tunes for the video and here is the full length drum cover by Pascal Thielen.

Who else loved the cymbals ⚡️❤️
Especially the China crash!!! Sooooo 👍 good
R.I.P Sir Charlie Watts 1941-2021
PS: you're a genius
Complete with the right hand pause, well done!
Enlighten me, what is "the right hand pause" just curious.
@@B5Blue1968 without playing every fourth note on hihat
@@B5Blue1968 have you never watched Charlie Watts drum? I don't know how you could miss it
As someone else pointed out in a response earlier, Charlie wasn't yet holding off on the hihat during snare hits until after this period and he didn't start using the china cymbal as a crash until much later, also. So, this is like a ''what if?'' presentation, being specifically ''What if Charlie Watts of the last 30 years were to revisit what he did over 50 years ago?'' - which is pretty much what he did for the last 30 years lol but not in 1969. Anyway, great video and good sound, awesome playing, as always.
This further proves in a way that Charlie wasn't a simple drummer. It takes more concentration and effort to keep things working to the song like this, fills have to make sense. Hours and hours of thinking about it, and experiencing it. Every bar is different, a way to look at the drumming. Nice work.
Charlie would be tickled pink. Good job young man.
Just insane research and talent. Not easy to have pocket and feel like the Master Watts. Great drumming, RIP Charlie 🍻🤘😎
Charlie Approved
You have easily the best drum cover of this song on the entire internet. Seriously. I shopped.
beautiful drum cover and the drums and cymbals sound so nice to my ears.
"Audio engineer, you the real MVP."
That snare sound is amazing. Wonderful job here.
I love this channel. Especially the recognition and appreciation of relatively simple drum songs, and the understanding of tone, tuning, style, dynamics etc. Sometimes the best drummers are the ones who know when not to play, and there's no one better at that than Mr. Watts. I've played Gimme Shelter a few times over the years and that chorus fill with the flams is one of the most satisfying fills to play. Keep up the great work!
You must be the best drum cover maker ever. Tone and notes always spot on.
Beautifully played and top class mix - Bravo!!!
Another great cover - excellent work. Thank you!
Impeccable
Of all the covers, this is the one that gets closer. Great job!
Great drumming, great sound, love the simplicity of the small drum kit, superb tone, loved it.
Great job! I love how you play each drummer's style well, and how you also set up and tune the drums exactly like each drummer. Nice!
Best cover for this tune I've seen. You have Charlie's playing style. He'd be proud. Nice job young lad!
Amazing cover... I really appreciate the small detail Charlie's hi-hat/snare pattern... Good job, amazing work.
You are amazing! Love it! ❤
Very nice. Beautiful sound
I like how you leave off the back beat. Very Charlie!! Nice performance.
Beautiful sound 😍
spot on!
Fantastic song! Great performance! 🔥🔥
I love it ! Well done, as usual 😉
Very nice!
That looks like a great, simple drum kit. Nothing there looks excessive, unneeded. Basic, but very functional.
China crash, black dot tom skins, and Charlie's unique hit hat style, nice job Sir!
Flamtastic!
Excellent.
Great vid.
I have always played the double strokes on the snare and floor tom. That always sounded closest to the studio recording. Adding the mid tom is interesting. I'll try it your way and see. Nice cover!
Great!
Si good !!!
Great sound! Still waiting for black hole sun by soundgarden😍
Thanks!!
excellent
❤
Ha! I did the same a week ago! Nice job over hear.
I would love to see Jimmyy "the rev" Sullivan
Next
I love these kind of covers, but can you describe how you the the drums to drums the sound?
Here is a video about that: ua-cam.com/video/uAxoNZhUM5I/v-deo.html
Forgive my lack of knowledge here, but when you bring both sticks down on the snare just a millisecond apart, what’s the name for that?
It's called a flam :)
@@kua6982 thanks, man.
Is it possible for you to upload just the drums as a video, there is sound in there I would love to hear it isolated?
What kind of snare muffler/dampener is that?
It's a Mr Muff MiniMuff
What drum heads do you use on your toms?
Those look like Remo Controlled Sound Clear Black Dot
Fuckn A in the groove beat 👌🏻🔥🔥
Yeah, you're hired...
Did Charlie Watts ever give any explanation to why he didn't hit the high hat with the snare?
Looks like Pascal was struggling a bit with that lol. Seems a simple thing but for most of us our muscle memory is not tuned to hold that right hand back.
Charlie saw Jim Keltner doing it at Concert for Bangladesh and Keltner saw Levon Helm doing it before him
It's interesting though, Charlie didn't start doing this well until after this song was recorded. If you listen to the actual recording it's consistent 8ths. Small detail but if you're trying to do an accurate playalong it's good to replicate it properly. Also Charlie didn't start using the China until the late 80s.
It's a stylistic choice more than anything. I tend to do it when I'm playing with a really med/low fat snare sound, just so I'm not adding that crispness and those highs that I took out by tuning the drum down.
He said so you could hear the snare hits better as if the hats were drowning it out a bit.
@@Monsterdrumma just hit the snare harder lol
next THE DOORS
I couldn't see the crash of doom beeing played one time in this clip...it's a sad sad day
Looking forward to Scott Rockenfield’s drum sound on Queensryche’s Operation: Mindcrime album next!
Where’s Roger Taylor’s Kit?
Nevermind, lol
Not.
Charlie did not play the drumd that way.
i still Will looking for someone who knows to do It.
Regards
The china crash is mounted upside down..😰
Snare doesn't sound good.
true, in fact it is very different from the original Charlie snare, the harmonics are missing!
