@Robert Bonneau Good one. So true, especially regarding government workers. I live near a fire station, and those bastards get paid top dollar just to sit around polishing the chrome on their trucks. A friend of mine told me a funny story. When he was in high school he and his friends were talking about what careers they would pursue after graduation. One of the kids said he was going to be a fireman. The rest of them laughed at him, thinking he would make peanuts doing that kind of job. Well in the end, the guy retired in his early fifties, and turned out to be the richest of them all. The guy, the fireman, was getting paid over $100,000, even in retirement, with free healthcare. I seriously doubt the guy even put out one fire in his entire career, apart from training.

k8eekatt thank you, firstly people inside the firewall don’t know about this, gov told it’s purely natural disasters and they want to cover the technical mistakes of the three gorges dam; secondly as soon as some local floods happen, they cut off the network so the outside don’t know any info; thirdly it is so large scale and will have no place to go
You guys are giving far to much credits to the CCP for trying to prevent the flood. The truth of the matter is, because of economic gains, the three gorges dam corporation has retained FAR too much water at the beginning of the season. When the flood came, they have little to no space left to retain water. Another couple of interesting facts are the three gorges dam is highly controversial even within the CCP. At the end, Li Peng (one of the most prominent man behind the Tiananmen Square massacre) prevailed and the dam was built. The dam is now controlled and owned by his sons and family. Another interesting fact is that NO formal QC acceptance of the dam has been conducted and sign off by any ranking officers despite it being a national project. Lastly, you will never find any high ranking officials touring the dam (including all previous chairmen of the CCP or prime ministers - even Li Peng himself). This is not because they are afraid the dam will fail while they are there, but rather they don’t want their names tied to the project when the dam fail. Bonus fact, the latest CCP rating for the dam is not 100 years anymore, but rather since “new China has been formed,” which is 70 years... 🤓

@@salvadorhenriquez4091 The dam should be ok. The danger is overtopping. Overtopping causes massive erosion that causes collapse. Pressure on dam walls is depth of water, P=rho g h. Nowt to do with how much water is behind it. Of course, the weight of water behind can cause seismic events that can cause issues with the foundations, but should be ok. Many of the Mao era dams however.. erm. But most of them are small hand dug things.
Of course, the water catchment area has an effect on the potential for overtopping.
Everyone who wants to know what real chinese people would be like without communism should befriended a Taiwanese.
How do you know China would be like Taiwan without communism? Taiwan is a small country that has to behave to get sympathy in the rest of the world. China is different and much bigger. It would not be the same.

@@perro4996 Because it's pretty likely that if the Nationalist government did not flee the mainland, then China would look a look a lot more like Taiwan or South Korea. The CCP is almost entirely responsible for the state China is in today... Good or bad. Size does not require an authoritarian government. Tibet and the Turk regions would probably be independent states too, increasing stability.
@@Jay-bf8yp it is not in china's national interest to give up Tibet or Shingiang (or the South china sea...). They would still be a rival to usa and eu. Russia has not turned into boy scouts after their system collapsed. I think china will be weaker without the ccp and like Lisa here is suggesting, perhaps be seperated in to several independent states.

To see Taiwan breaks my heart for the Chinese people when you see what they could be under better government. I hope Taiwan will accept Hong Kongers as the time comes for them to escape the CCP. I hope they are welcome in any country, but Taiwan especially because of their shared history.

@@Gumdaar1 nope, that my friend I believe that is or was a nail house, from what I can see, nail houses are built as way to get money from the government of China when they come to demolish everything in an area and build more substandard homes for profit . Each floor gets additional money, walls are not required. It is a scam. If you look closely you will notice no plumbing or services of any type. Ask yourself who would know wear to build in this manner? To get the money and who would the government pay ? It is the same answer both times. I am one of the few people who have lived and traveled in that country.

Well, the tit-for-tat thing is not really in China's control. It is an unspoken protocol within the diplomatic community. If country A issues a specific decision altering the staffing or presence of country B's diplomatic mission, country B is entitled to a response equivalent in form and degree. By "entitled", it means country's B response as described will not be answered with diplomatic protest or military intervention from country A. And country B would invariably employ this action - it is called the face-saving rule - and country A would be expected to respect their response, because the modern international system is built on assumption of equality between sovereign states. Which is why the American government did not issue protest to Chinese closure of their Chengdu consulate.

Enjoyed the show, minus the assumptions and lecture about how wearing masks saves lives. The latter is literally only being peddled by ppl who dont read the disclaimers that are on the pckging of. the masks. You arent saving anyone and those who dont wear them arent killing ppl. That is a messed up way to think. You are free to wear for your belief in your religion, but shaming those who do not and insinuating they are killing others is wrong and has no evidence that is actually based in reality.

I know you guys aren't Christian, but the Bible has an interesting prophesy regarding the "king of the east" leading an army of 200 millions soldiers to the west. Just thought it was interesting.
That prophecy is referring to the Persians (Iranians) not Chinese. You can tell by the reference to the soldiers' horses' tails, which are knotted at the ends in a special way that caused injury to enemy soldiers when the horses flicked their tails at them. The knots were shaped like snake heads, and contained razor-sharp barbs made of iron or bronze (to simulate fangs).
