  • There are a lot of steps in a leathercraft project. For a beginner, one of the most intimidating steps can be figuring out what side of the line to bevel on.
    In this video I’m going to show you some basic fundamentals that will help simplify the beveling step of your tooling.
    * The New LeatherLife Classroom*
    23plusleatherclass.thinkific....
    The new Leather Life Classroom is an online subscription based leathercraft class.
    There is a new project being released on the 1st of every month. Classes are pre recorded so you can watch on your own time and work at your own pace.
    Each project comes included with downloadable patterns for you to keep. There are instructional videos walking you through each step of the project from start to finish. Discussion is open on videos to allow you to ask questions as needed.
    With a current subscription, there will be access to project videos for 3 months, at which point that project will be made available to the public as a separate course for a higher price.
    Projects will vary but most will include both a tooling and a construction aspect. Example projects would be: Bible Cover, rifle sling, wallets, belts, bags, gift ideas, etc.
    Benefits of being in the classroom include:
    -Access to new patterns and projects 3 months before the general public.
    -Discounted price compared to the later offering to the public.
    -Access to ask questions in discussion.
    -Bonus content and resources

Wondered how I was going to bevel while I was working lol, but all of it is a learning process to take with me onto other projects. You’re videos and information are top notch, and help a lot. A real big deal to me is how clean and wide your knife carving is. Mine is so light and hard to follow whereas yours wvwn I could follow with my beveler, ir makes mimne so hard to follow without leaving the lines, frustrating as hell to a beginner!!!!!!!

  • @tommytitmouse

    Hi Joe, I`d say I`m still a novice in leather tooling & I`ve recently bought a Barry King no2 checkerd steep Beveler . I`m still learning Beveling and I`m struggling with getting my Beveler to "slide " as I`m running along the swivel knife cuts. It appears that the Beveler drags with no fluency as I try to move along as you appear to do when you are Beveling. You seem to slide along like a hot knife going through Butter. I try to copy your method ,but no matter how hard I try, it just won`t Slide along "Nicely "as I start Tapping after the first drop in of the beveler, . Its as if the checkering stops the Beveler from moving along fluently ,causing the Beveler to drag on the leather .???? Does it sound maybe to you that I`ve not got my leather belt wet enough do you think .?
    What I do is, wet my leather belt with a few passes of water & then let it dry a bit till the color starts lightening .Then start to bevel .

  • @invictusbp1prop143
    @invictusbp1prop143 2 роки тому

    Takes a while for these to even start making sense when you’re brand new. …because you’re watching this and trying to follow along with the big ol beat up turd you’ve got on your bench in front of you… but you don’t realize he’s whackin away on some really nice 12 oz skirting leather with the super clean hitting King Steep Bevelers that cost more than all of those stamps in that kit you got there….and you’re using your cheap tand6’s which will work, but will never give you a bevel like what you’re watching and beating on your tandys with a hammer and some funky 7 oz belly leather that you don’t yet understand that it will never look like what you’re watching…. But when u figure that out, and understand why….then you are learning enough to start to be able to knock out some decent looking stuff.

    Hello Joe, I wanted to ask you if you could indulge an old man a question, can you wet mold with a tooled project? That is, if you tool a piece of leather can you wet mold it into a knife sheath for example?

    • @joemeling3216
      @joemeling3216  3 роки тому

      Hey there! Yes you can. You just have to be careful not to distort the tooling too much but if you have good depth to start with then you’ll be fine. I would just try to be ready to mold it right as I was getting done tooling when there was still moisture in the leather and could just add a bit on moisture to the back maybe.
