Don, I have watched and listened to a lot of well known leather workers about drawing designs. You are the best! You are one of the best teachers as you seem to know how to explain the reasoning for doing what is being done. Thank You for your sharing. I am 80 years old and am enjoying making items out of leather. I am at a point where I want to do my own designs but, did not understand why things are done. Thanks for clearing it up! Larry Swenson

That you, thank you, thank you, I just downloaded your eBook. I have purchased books and have traveled and taken other courses, the information is valuable but nun would teach me the basics of how to do the vines, the flow and transition, this was always just a given thought. Because i did not have that basic information I would always get frustrated and give up. Now finally I have someone to teach me these simple basics to go along with all this other advanced knowledge i have. I can not thank you enough.

What a good instructional video. Thank you this has helped me a great deal. Getting to grips with this idea has helped me a lot. Instead of a few flowers that fell onto the leather workpiece I can now show the different elements linked together. Now the vines or leaf stock flows in a much more believeable way. Thank you for a very clear and and helpful explanation.

Don, I have read everything I can find this subject, and I just couldn't get it. The horizontal line is the piece of the puzzle I was missing. Understanding where to begin the vine work to keep from having that awkward straight line, or bunching everything up will help my design process immensely. I wish you were in Idaho, because I would hang around your shop and bug you without mercy until I could make things the way you do. Thank you for posting these videos.

Now if you would show us how to connect to the next circle and continue with a series of circles that would be great. Good morning Don. Thank you for taking time to share your knowledge and experience. Want to share an idea that might help others. It would be helpful if you produce some videos about the components of a Sheridan drawing. Some videos that describe the parts and the motivation for creating different designs. Eg. 'This is a vine. We draw it like this. Allot of times this type has tendrils and thorns. We can use a camouflager and veiner to create the spiral center and the movement of the curved vine.' etc. You could do the different types of vines, leaves, flowers, nuts, thorns, etc. And what type of tool you use. I noticed in one of your instructional videos, you put circles in various places with a seeder.i saw what you did, but didn't understand why and what you were trying to emulate in nature. You're one of the best leather carvers. I know it's allot of work, but having all the breakdown would give you subject matter and give the viewers a better understanding of the botanical parts, when and why to use the specific tools and how we might put those parts together to create a pattern. Thanks again for teaching us your craft.
You are really talented guy! You used just a basic tools and you got an amazing effect! I was just searching for video how to paint my old brown martens for yellow ( like yellow) ... I wanted to know which type of paint can I use and which type of coat... I am impressed your work!
I'm a little off-topic but in this example, all your backgrounds were surrounded. Something I have trouble with is when all my background areas are not surrounded and where to stop backgrounding. In some of my patterns, objects are close together and need some backgrounding but have no border. I usually background a little but tend to go too far and then feel the need to background all the way around which wasn't my intent and doesn't look good. Any advice there?
+pjculbertson55 yes this is a common prob I have too... thing I have found is to limit the amount I add to just accent a bit of background in the convergent areas on the outside. I usually only do enough to add an accent.
+pjculbertson55 I️ have this same issue at times and have found that for me it works best to just add the tool length’s of background anywhere there is a V in the pattern around the outside. So like where a couple vines converge I️ will just add two or three spots of background using my background tool... just enough to hint at the background that would be here.
