This is my all time favorite piece from Riverdance. Never have I been more proud to be both of Irish and Spanish ancestry! The beautiful mixing of these two cultures in dance and music was brilliant. Irish and Spanish peoples are passionate and having hot Michael Flatley and beautiful Maria demonstrate this in the Firedance was the best thing about a show that was already outstanding.
For my part, this version of Riverdance - the ORIGINAL - will always be the one I hold nearest and dearest. Michael Flatley had the passion and drive, and such marvelous chemistry with Maria and the rest of the cast. There is just no comparison for me.
best firedance (or even the best spanish and celtic dances) out of all the riverdance shows. maria has so much passion and strength here, as dus michael. They work so well together.
I love this performance. I have it but hadn't watched it in a while. I love how it's just her shiluette at the begining; simply beautiful. Awesome dress too.
My neighbour loved it, so once we borrowed her video. I think I was 4, but I loooooved it! This was my favourite dance, cause the combination of music, atmosphere and just everything makes it great! This was one of the reasons why I wanted to play the guitare (sound of music is the 2nd reason;-) )
They both dance this like all the moments of their lives up till this dance were not even really lived - like the moment that they are truly alive for the first time is when they are dancing this, and so they throw their whole souls into the dance, every scrap of life they possess going into this five minutes. Like they expect to die when the dance is over and they're putting their last breath of life into it.
Michael Flatley looks scared shitless dancing with her it's hilarious! Despite how manish she looks, she has a very lovely profile. Plus she's a wonderful dancer.
I love this song. So much so as I bought the Riverdance book just so I could have the guitar tabs. In fact, I bought a classical guitar just to practice this song. Definitely the song I play the most. And I like this version better than the later version b/c in revisions they don't even really interact.
I would love to find the other spanish flamenco dance in riverdance the original show - Andalucia. Looking for it for such a long time as its the most beautiful music ever.
"(Basque connection "?")" It may sounds funny but actually that makes some sense. Basques and andalusians have something in common: Nobody knows for sure the ultimate origin of the euskara language or flamenco dance. Yet you have dvmb people all over the world claiming that euskara/flamenco originated in their country without providing any solid probe. Armenians, georgians, berebers, etc claims euskera belongs to their country. Indians, berebers, sephardics, etc. claim they were the craddle of flamenco. As a curiosity, "Landa Luziak" in euskera means "Wide open lands" which is a perfect description of Andalucia. Phonetically, Landa Luziak and Andalucia sounds basically the same.
I used to dance to this as a liitle kid. It was really embarrasing. I just jumped around on my couch. My parents still tease me about it. But I love it still.
I liked the portrayal of man meeting fire for the first time, and Maria Pages is absolutely incredible, but I really really dislike Michael Flatley's Riverdance. It's a shame they didn't keep that bit second time round, it would have been amazing between Maria and Colin
We can't be 100% sure of that unless we check out her medical record. The only thing we can conclude from your message is that you're a complete m0ron.
No me gusto. Repite muchos pasos, la técnica es ordinaria para este tipo de mezcla y abre horrible las piernas. Solo me gustan los movimientos en sus muñecas...
Amazing. Andalusia in essence. Irish culture. The same passion.

This song made me pick up the guitar and learn to play. This dance made me buy the riverdance dvd.
Superb artistry is displayed here.

Omg what an amazing dance! Both Michael and Maria are brilliant dancers, their passion for it is clear as soon as you see something like this.
I love this performance. I have it but hadn't watched it in a while. I love how it's just her shiluette at the begining; simply beautiful. Awesome dress too.
Comme c'est beau !! Ces deux styles ensemble quelle merveille !

This was my favorite dance in the whole show.
Flamenco was always such a grown up dance.
Maria Pages is amazing, I love her dancing. Hope to see you next year again in Queretaro.
Thanks for posting! This is my favorite routine from the show. I have this on VHS, but it's almost worn out. I'm sorry it hasn't made it to DVD yet.
excellent! this fantastic scene has been in my memory for years. I'm glad to find it here on youtube!

Here, here! Who wants to see only half of the dance? What's flamenco or Irish dance without footwork?
I love this song. So much so as I bought the Riverdance book just so I could have the guitar tabs. In fact, I bought a classical guitar just to practice this song. Definitely the song I play the most.

WONDERFUL :O :O :O
this is hot!!!

I always thought it seemed like she started too early... lol

Eso es bailar y no bromas!!!

Is that Michael winking at about 03:43?

@LordGuinness you mean 'floored'? haha
It was brilliant... untill Michael came and killed it.
The second time round was better, with Maria dancing by herself, she is so talented.

i wish the camera guys did a better job.
He's supposed to, she's supposed to represent fire... he's just sad that a better dancer is on stage than him though..
You guys are nuts, Maria is totally a dude! or was a dude
TheFillerhoff five years later and your comment is still retarded.
