I am-and yes you’re right! I am fortunate that I got to see Maria Pages live when the show came to Chicago! The audience loved her! Had to download this so I can watch it again!
I saw this when I was 15 back in 1995. Now it's 2021 I'm 41 years old and it still moves me as much as it did all those years ago. MARIA PAGES.. magnificent
I am in tears... watched this dance when i was about 12 and for the life of me I could not find it, until now, almost 30. Had to hum the song to Google to get here... The internet is absolutely amazing!!💯 And Maria's dance is just as majestic as i remember!
This dance makes my mum super emotional. I'm 32 and I've watched riverdance since 1995. It has a special place in my heart. When my dad was on tour with the army me and my mum would dance away to riverdance in the squaddie houses in longstanton barracks Cambridge
I think I enjoy this version a bit more than the one where she duets with Michael Flatley. Don't get me wrong, they were great together and he's very good as well, but I can't help but feel this version, where she performs solo, is much more powerful.
Both versions are great. I prefer the original though cause I enjoyed how it kind of symbolizes the first interaction between mankind and fire. Or at least thats what I have kind of hypothesized. This version I love too cause we get to see Maria is more than capable of holding her own solo on stage.
Right… and look at it now. Or at least fairly recently, where the flamenco dancer is being “accosted” (so to speak) by three male Irish dancers from the ensemble, rather than the lead male! It sort of takes away from her solo, but it also breaks it up and adds some level of interest. Plus, as a musician & dancer myself, and actually knowing how to play this piece on fiddle, I find it endlessly interesting and it’s so cool to hear the Irish shoes dancing to 7/8 time.
The dance is absolutely 100% María. The flamenco is María, inside and out, and she is flowing with flamenco. But the music, some purists may argue, is anything but flamenco… but it is an amazing composition, and I play it on the fiddle myself. However, it’s not from Spain. It was born from the imagination of a talented Irish pianist & composer… Mr. Bill Whelan (composer and creator of Riverdance!). So I’m not sure how good of a representation this piece even is, at least musically… I’m used to flamenco being simply guitars and cajón, and clapping, castanets, some vocalisations. But this show clearly has a fiddle, uilleann pipes, accordion, soprano saxophone and a Bulgarian wind instrument called the kaval… a modern approach, for sure.
I cant judge dance but intuitively I think flamenco is so beautiful...its a perfect harmony of...I dont know obviously technical and incredible full body discipline but such natural expression. Its like how all woman would dance and express if they never had any hindrances or shame
I watched this performance when it first came years ago and still to this day Maria Pages absolutely amazes me as if it was yesterday with this performance
É emocionante ver Maria Pagés ocupar esse imenso palco sozinha, só ela e seu enorme talento. O palco fica pequeno, ela ocupa todos os espaços, sua performance é maravilhosa.
When I was like really young (3 years old) I always enjoyed watching this and my dream was becoming a dancer and I’m 13 now and if I see this it gives me so much memories xd ❤
🔺This feels like yesterday, maybe a few years back, but it absolutely doesnt feel nearly 30 years ago. ⚖️ What has happened to space and time? It really is all happening simultaneously, Quantum Physics. Best Thoughts ... Beth Tennessee, USA 🇮🇪 🇺🇲
Something I've noticed recently that slightly irritates me: its fairly easy to tell (once you pay attention to it) this number in the movie might have used two different times firedance was performed. Why? Lighting design. First example is right at 2:00. Notice the blue lighting on the bottom half of the stairs. From 2:04 to about 2:17 the accent lighting is all red and there's no blue on the stairs anymore! 2:17 shot shows that the blue lighting upstage has come back! The lighting shifts between shots several more times following till the end of the number. Kinda only slightly cant watch this the same way again after discovering this.
28 years later. Now in 2024, Maria Pages makes this flamenco dance act the best one I’ve ever seen.
Her passion burns in a everlasting flame❤️🔥
27 years after, its 2023, Maria Pages is still the most magnificent Flamenco dancer I'v ever seen💓💗Adore her
Who's here in 2020? 25 years later it still gets me right here! Maria Pages brava!

Hell even in 2021 I’m still getting in touch with my roots here
Menée I still have the tape hhhh.
I cannot believe it's been 25 years. Still just as beautiful to this day.
2023 ♥️🔥

¡¡¡Maravilloso!!! Esa guitarra, esas castañuelas, ese arte esa María Pagés... Magia pura.
Once in a life time performance; legendary, difficult if not impossible to surpass!

I agree with you! I like her solo more ❤❤❤

I just can't describe what this song does for my soul.....it is transcendent
Simplemente fuera de serie!!!
Have never been very fond of Flamenco in general, but this choregraphy and Maria Pagès herself, is just dazzling!

She is outstanding, hands down!
Love the whole spanish vibe amazing.❤
Well… it’s more than a vibe! María Pagés, some would argue, is the embodiment of the genre!
Love how the Irish instruments interpret the Spanish music so well!
well its highly likely that the Irish came from ancient Iberia then into and settled into Hibernia

ТНТ Танцы просто отдяхают
Its a shame they never allowed the wonderful dancing to shine through the overly loud music.
