give them horse heads and you could have an army of Neigh-Crons
Wonderful!!!
I hate and love this idea. It is terrifying and spectacular.
@@kaimera2932 it's a real neightmare
Add some protein and you get whey-crons
@zaakirali6453 Undomesticated equines could not stop a dad joke from being made.
One page rules needs more love, the rules are amazing and I love how the lore is vague enough so that you can fit whatever homebrew ideas you want or heck even make up your own lore.
They have a very cool Army Forge tool now so you can create your own armies! Name your own units, describe their moves and weapons… I’m not doing a great job explaining but Discourse Minis did an interesting walk through.
The best explanation I’ve found (quickly) is on OPR’s own news section in a posting from this summer called “Community Books in Army Forge Now!”.
It basically provides a great tool if you want to sculpt/kit bash your own force (sort of like Jazzs and team did with the Space Bears), or create playable rules for miniatures you already have on hand!
I've never seen these minis before. Ever. Why is the picture in my head for an elder race in my sci fi setting these models? Doesn't matter, what matters is they look dope. Well done Dave.
You've gotta play the OPR games, they're so fun. Do a bat rep in their system plz, its such an easy way to get people into the hobby
Yeah, I played a battle with a friend (Age of Fantasy) who hasn't played Warhammer in years (and me just beginning with 40k 9th) on Tabletop Sim.
With a prepped workshop table with some cool terrain and fitting models, we build our army, set up and played a game in a bit over 2 hours.
It's really easy to get into, especially if you have a bit understanding for tabletop, as all the special rules are just tags in the characters and explained on a page, while alternating activation just keeps you way more engaged than the huge rounds of GW's systems (Glad they are going with alternating for the new Killteam)
I can highly recommend it if you wanna get into Tabletop or you're trying to get a friend of family member into it.
Totally agree as well as the rules being lots of fun with no need for pointless complexity but still super tactical and pretty well balanced for the most part (prime brothers are insane though) over 20 army lists for both sci fi and fantasy games both mass battle and skirmish, FTL game on top of that paper minis to try out new armies or show it off to people without needing extra armies. They are great people and yes I am a fan boy the last couple of weeks ha
One Page Rules is so fantastic. Great rulesets featuring art by the fantastic Hankrin Fernale of Runehammer. Cannot recommend them enough.
That's so nice of you. I like that even though I was a joke, you still felt it was in poor taste and wanted to rectify that video. Don't tell Jazza but you're my favorite, Dave 🤗
I've never played any tabletop games but your videos always make me want to paint miniatures
Yes! I love OnePageRules they are my new go to for war gaming, super simple rules with random over complexity for the sake of it, basic rules are free (advanced rules have lots of great optional rules to add in if you want to mix it up instead of being forced to use the rules all at once) Army lists for all games for all to use for free as well, both sci fi and fantasy settings with both having mass battle and skirmish games as well as now putting more FTL stuff out there, give access to paper minis and terrian a great way to test out armies or show it off to people without needing extra armies around as well as of course having some great STLs that are getting better and better with every single month :-)
Love their rules. It’s been a great rule system for getting my son into wargamming!
Absolutely love how the shading came out on the cloaks! So dramatic!
So cool! Just stumbled across One Page Rules by accident yesterday. Great job on those minis, Dave! Now all we need are armies for Jen, Gareth, Jeremy for an all out "War for the Arty Throne". (Jazza still has the huge styrofoam throne, right?)
They are amazing! I hope you will try their rules out they are lots of fun and to the point but still very tactical, always getting updated rules and or army lists with new units or revised points, skills etc...
The osl on any mini Dave does them on always turns out so crisp! I love seeing it in thumbnails, because it's even cooler to watch it develop in video!
The cell shading style on the cloak worked really well. It really shows just how much more important painting is to define those volumes rather than the model itself.
Also the purple on the base didn't really seem to show through too much as the crackling really didn't come across strongly, have you ever tried techniques like laying down some glue over the base before adding the crackle paint? It's supposed to make it take stronger effect and really open up those cracks.
I've always felt gw necrons were lacking something. These look really cool.
Started playing recently, and man it’s a great system!
Getting the hang of it with some friends is sure way to have a good quality time.
NGL, I was expecting Rob to come in at the end of this and smash your beautiful creations to bits and I was so here for that lol. That being said, as the video progressed I felt more and more guilty about those feelings as these are absolutely stunning! But also, Rob, I mean if you want to be sneaky and smash these to bits, we will all support you.
Now try out the games. OPR games are amazing fun! Grimdark Future, Age of Fantasy, and Warfleets are fast and fun. Highly recommended!
My biggest takeaway from this video was the fabric. It looked so simple, yet so amazing! I'm definitely going to steal this technique.
Haha, just yesterday I bit the bullet and subscribed for the month... then took the 70% discount code over to their MMF page and spent about $50 on a staggering amount of these robot legion guys, AND their awesome aliens for use as Necron and Tyranid kill team squads. I have a ton of legit 40k minis, but these are awesome for making more Kill Team options.
Love the vid!
I love the idea of these models, but as a cron player, they just don't scratch the same aesthetic itch. I think that using the heads and cloaks as conversion materials would feel better in my opinion.
yep, I would agree, if they were together on the tabletop I wouldn't think they were meant to be the same faction
@@gingernytemare I could see it, though I would also paint the cloaks in way that lets me run them as flayed ones so.......
GamesWorkshop: “REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEH!”
One Page Rules is fantastic - I don't have any of the miniatures but I love the rulesets!
I enjoyed all the painting tips and instruction. My eldest son and I have recently become interested in minis and ttg and you guys help me sound knowledgeable and cool 😎. Thanks 😊
Do Check out One Page Rules, it's a great way to start playing something really fast, the basic rules are free and you can basically take anything to subsitute the models (printed out 2D versions, for example, if you don't have enough for an army)
Great way to try out if you like that sort of game without a huge investment!
(I'm personally more interested in the painting part, myself)
Going to be checking in every few hours to see all the thumbnail variations 💪
Very cool (see what I did there). Also if you put some pva glue on top of your base under coat then add your crackle medium you get much juicier cracks. Also a thicker layer helps and a hair dryer. Although be very sparring with the hair dryer cos it can dry too quick and flake away
5:50 💗 💕 I love you Dave. Please don’t ever change.
Edit: 11:42 👆 Ditto to Rob. 🍻📣😄
I would be VERY interested in a Tabletop Time intro into "Other Wargame and Skirmish Games that are not branded by a massively large company" for those of us who go "Wow, Age of Sigmar/40k/Warcry/Kill Team/Necromunda/Hordes/Warmachines/Malifaux looks amazing - holy hell that's super expensive to get into, to figure out if I even like this game." Using something like One Page Rules and what exactly I need to do to prepare to play my first "Non-Corporate Conglomerate" skirmish game with my lovely wife if we own a 3d printer. I painted my Not-a-crons from this video with Vallejo Colorshift paints and gave them an orange/yellow glow, tried an oil wash for the first time too using some information I stole from Jeremy from Black Magic Craft...I'm happy with my bad paint job :D Thanks for referring this Pateron.
Thanks for showcasing these models. I bought a 1-year sub to One Page Rules' Patreon. Can't wait to print and try some of these techniques out!
Very cool, I did a very similar video as this as well on my channel this week where I printed a 1000point army from One Page Rules... I have about 2600 subs, so I don't have a reach like you, but my video was doing well for me! Love the colors you painted these guardians as well.
Great tutorial! the only thing i didnt like was the blue grass on snow bases... it takes away from the cool armour effects and just makes them a blue and white wash out, if the colour of the bases were more neutral the armour and source lighting effects would show better.
Being picky i know... some constructive critism that hopefully is food for thought.
Well done :)
i just love 3dprinting/resin printing vids that show how good models nowdays are.
GW cannot even compare nowdays with most Xenos lines to FREE STLs you can get from interwebs.
It may only cost $10 to print the OPR robots legions, but the files cost quite a bit more. I wound up with a good number of them due to being on the Patreon and taking advantage of the Patreon's special my mini factory discount (70% off for the month of November 2021). I don't have everything for this army, but I have enough for small games or the skirmish version. The Patreon was releasing models for three armies for the past few months, but but they are planning on adding scenery to the monthly releases. Next month sees the initial release of a beastfolk army, and gun heavy Asian themed aliens in January. Next year will see the release of more aztec/mayan lizards to finish up the rest of the army.
still substantially cheaper than WH40k.
okay holup. That white has amazing coverage, what paint is it? Painting white over black takes me 4 coats atm.
stop trying to attain perfect and solid coverage, you are wasting your time by fighting the transparent nature of acrylic paint
each layer is supposed to take on information from the previous layer
watch the cape segment again and keep an eye out for these details
its not going over pure black, it has been lightened by the zenithal pass
it is not actually white , its a creamy grey off white
dave layers on darker grey and a brighter white for highlights and shadows
the end result is a read of white
where very little of it is actually white
if you start with white, to paint white
you are going to endure much pain trying to get a good coat and it will look terrible as it has no depth to the colour
its the same for all colours, even black , start with a mid tone of the goal this gives you room to work shadows and highlights and create a final colour
Scale 75 alchemy range and I hear monument hobbies do a decent white, but personally the only white I've ever had a problem with was Vallejo's game colour white as it's a bit more transparent than their model colour range
Two things:
1) Do more stuff (battle reports, mini paintings, etc.) with OPR, their stuff is awesome
2) Battle report with Jazza's Space Bears and Rob's Necrons, preferably on an icy snow covered game board.
One Page Rules make a pretty awesome Lizardmen range too.
Yeah, a million times better than the gw lizardmen too.
And if you join the Patreon this month, the set with every model that they've released is 70% off and is a really good deal. Also, new models are coming next year.
The "cell-shades" cloak is a great look.
Have a comment for promoting OPR. Love their minis, love the games.
These models are so cool - shame I'm such a sucker for 40k lore cuz other wise I'd just bin of GW entirely after all their recent BS.
Yeah.. 40k is a great game with fun lore, but Games Workshop is a garbage fire of a company
Lots of 40k fans are moving over to Battletech. The guys behind BT even advertise 3rd party apps and models on the main website. And both BT and WH40k are based on Dune, so you get a lot of the same themes and motifs
@@SendarSlayer are there any good primers on BT lore?
@@Robster881 Black Pants Legion has some good videos on the individual mechs and how and where they were made. The Battletech game is really good for learning the lore because every universe specific phrase (Like Inner Sphere, MechWarrior, Aurigan Reach) you can hover over and it will expand on what the term means.
What is that white color? It looked awesome and went over the black so well.
I had to put on mittens, because of how cool they are.
No seriously, they look fantastic!
I wonder how the aggrellan earth might look/work with different undercolors...
I've been looking for something like this to break my kid of his GW addiction. Okay... So... I hate the thought of giving those guys money, but I'm getting more and more interested in 40k, and as a kid I loved WFB.
The BEST part of the rules is the artwork by Hankerin Ferinale... of ICRPG fame. As soon as I saw that, I signed up for the patreon, and started putting stls in my cart.
I will say that that was the smoothest plug ever!
Well Dave your a very talented artist and superb painter ! I enjoy watching your painting mini videos! You explain your process and help us get better, Thank you.
Rob - do "Dead in the eyes" - PERFECT!
What kind of paints and brushes are you using? The white looks super smooth!
OnePageRules models look amazing. I'd love to have an army of their Mummified Undead, but I need to find someone with a resin 3D printer.
We need more of Rob's necrons
This gunn be good
I just joined OPR patreon. Love the sculpts.
I love the tenkop models from dark foundry miniatures. I would love to see a video about their tenkop line printed and painted. They also have a model which you could use instead of a monolith and a Great looking doomstalker and reanimator
I really thought about getting the STL for these just so I can cut off one of the heads and scale it up to one to one size for my ender 3
Loving it! 💀
I could have sworn I heard one say "General Kenobi' before in a movie I saw once...
I'm thinking of getting a resin printer and printing off my own notcrons, what printer was used here? Quality seems decent !
This was a nice and motivating vid. I really enjoyed it.
Do you use multiple brushes for different colours or do you simply just wash the same and switch colours?
I have seen this minis often and like them. Sadly i already have a huge pile of necrons :D but i see these guys as a combination out of necrons and protos
did you use the base scale size of the models or are they scaled up at all?
i like the "stargate" ispired helmets/heads.
Why aren't you reading books yet Dave? You have a great storytelling voice.
You've got my attention.
Those are great looking models, even better painted. Really puts necrons to shame.
I would love to paint these minis like the Mondoshawan with gold armor and purple orbs.
Did you print the model bigger ? Or did you leave as is ?
Please make a battlereport for One Page Rules🤗
This looks great!
think its about time our beautiful army the tyranids get some damn love
2 years later is there any chance we might see these bones in a battle report?
0% because Rob has moved on!
Love these videos
So what are these models from?
If talking about armies then there needs to be one zero more at least for the GW version.
Hey guys idk how to do d&d can someone please help me and explain in good detail because all im ever told is get friends paint characters and have fun but that is so vague I can't understand
Great work awesome Necr- errr... Notcrons
these really have way more interesting design
Thanks for the video!!!
Our pleasure!
Chunky I don't care for the look but table top quality. Not a bad effort.
They look like General Griveous lost brothers.
What 3D printer do you fine bros use?
The heads kinda look like Jaffa from stargate or is it just me ?
GW : fangame are illegal
Fans: oh look, people our doing better work than GW
I've only played one game of Age of Fantasy so far (via Tabletop Simulator) but with building our armies and playing with the recommended starting size, we had a fun afternoon and finished under 3 hours without any big downtime of looking up rules and waiting on turns.
Can highly recommend. (Even if i was completely flattened as I misread a line when building my army, but that happens)
Aw Dave felt bad for Rob
That title tho🤣
Slow to getting it, mini painting is the 3d version of coloring inside the lines.
Where the lines are made up and the context matters.
@@BlackWolf18C to an extent. There are definite limits, like belts, capes and you ca fill them as you want. With imaginary lines, color gradients, shadows.
Oh boy, games workshop will get on those guys because the models look like 40k, they taking down 3D printed models from ebay already!
Its so infuriating. GW has so much power they could be using to make the hobby better. Instead they've gone full Disney.
I'll take "shit that's not actually happening" for 400$ alex.
This is the best painting black out there!
I’m waiting for gw to get bankrupt
I'd prefer to hear how the modding is *more fun to look at* than price, since, they're not Games Workshop legal.
who gives a shit about GW legal
these guys are most likely never going to play at a gw store or tournament, so literally nobody cares
can you do the same with Death Korps of Kreig
I think you mean the Doom Guard of Guerre
hahah notcrons...literal best name
Bionicles 40k?
Okay, so, these guys are called the fuck dynasty?
I think your paint jobs would benefit a lot from more contrast.
General Kenobi
the fokked' dynasty? :D
Stop using the hobby crackle paint it's so expensive compared to other acrylic crackle paints
With how much they 3D print, they need to use some Citadel Products to keep GW chill.
With what games work shop is like recently I'm surprised they haven't gone after channels like this anyway. They are going after the rest of the content creators and even stepped it up a notch and gone after eBay sellers as Well now.
Why support a company that dose everything in the power to fuck over there community ? Especially when there are more hobbies company's than ever before and a lot of them are a lot better than gw with how they treat there community u know the little guys like me and u who bring them there money.
Yes strike those are actually robbing there content like 3d printers who print off there models and sell them on but going after stuff like fan art wtf is up with that ? Especially when there are lawyers saying what they are doing is against the copy right laws. Especially when they are taking down people who do lore channels etc what's next? Sticking battle reports and painting channels just to get us to pay for the pretty pore app they made. I say pore as they haven't done most of what they said they was going to. Free older white dwarfs. But there are loads missing and pages taken out of the one they have put on there.
I can keep going. I actually can't wait to see how a games workshop fanboy Will eventually comment on this comment to try and defend there business even thou they are also being messed around by g.w
I like there game don't mean I got to like there company
nutcrons
Definitely Notcrons. But competition is always good.
I don't mean to be... mean, but these prints don't look so good. Is this a result of the files, or did you have some issues printing them?
Circle
Notcrones? Meh, my pick would be Space Muhreens and Empire of TAO.
Coalition of TAO, remember. All are equal under the Sages!
looks good to me thowes guyz at GW will never exset a thing did say that out loud DHH yes god minis and paint job see as do more
stonks
