Benjamin Majeski In the bedrock version it is called “My World” and the bedrock version is the only Minecraft version on Switch (not the legacy console editions) meaning that it could be called My World
The stage being called "My World" would be really cool, going off the default world name in minecraft.

Haven’t played Minecraft in several years and was never a huge fan. But I am still ecstatic about this reveal. He reminds of mr. game and watch in terms of his blocky and quirky design and move set. I love those “abnormal” characters that no one thought could possibly be in smash. Also, any smash content is amazing as I absolutely love this game.

I didn't even think about that.
So they put in biome data for EVERY stage. This means based on what area of the stage you're on when you mine, you'll harvest biome-appropriate blocks. So ice and snow in Ice Climbers. Wood in Animal Crossing. Cobblestone and polished stone in Dracula's Castle, and in some stages it will change based on the location.
That's Inkling levels of dedication to a gimmick. Also appears mining blocks will be what stocks them in your inventory to place them on the stage.

We're not sure about that yet, since the blocks' durability is tied to what kond of block they are that'd unbalance him in diffeeent stages, also if he can craft weapons off of the iron or diamonds on stages then maybe some stages would screw him up by not having those resources
@@thehuman2cs715 It's purely aesthetic. Blocks last the same amount of time regardless of appearance, and can take the same damage from other players before poofing away.
Also the materials (iron, gold, diamond) are not tied to the stage type.
Am I the only one who thought "Minecraft!" just when Mario breaks the wall and it is made of pixels and voxels?

Unfortunately he hasn't made that sound in years. Now it's more of a bone crunching sound.
The "OOF" is Roblox Death Sound.

@@Addictions45 when Minecraft was newer (as in before Alex), when taking damage the player would make a loud "OOF" sound. It has since been changed.

@The Leader Of The World Nice idea. I do wish in hindsight he'd been slightly "Smashified", since I do see a good point among those who think he looks scanned in. I don't think he should be jarring; he's just new now, and soon he'll feel right at home.

We still need amiibo: Joker uniform or arsene, the other 3 heroes, Banjo kazooie, Terry, Both byleth, Min min, steve, alex, zombie, enderman. This is going off of smash 4’s dlc’s amiibo, where they got multiple versions each

The wings are called "elytra" and they where added in version 1.9 in 2016 ^^" you can glide with it and with fireworks you can launch yourself up. I think, this can be steves up+B
I think it can be aimed at any dircetion. Examples:Pit’s Up B and Ridley’s and it can sorta glide

The only thing as exciting as seeing a new character get confirmed is seeing the accompanying Mii costumes that release alongside them
Imagine a TF2 character as a Mii Costume. It wouldn’t even surprise me at this point, we have Cuphead, Sans and even VAULT BOY.
Hopefully the mii sword fighters can get a conkers out fit

@@hotpotatodude3473 I've been seeing people say it looks fake because it looks exactly like the game, but it's never been complaining. More loving bewilderment. Because this trailer LOOKS like an elaborate mod, and his spot on the mural LOOKS like a sticker or photoshop edit. It's so surreal.

For the few people that missed Minecraft or couldn’t get into it for whatever reason, I HIGHLY encourage you to listen to the music. It’s simultaneously calm and haunting, some of the best music in gaming.
I have, and I'm sorry, but the music just does not do it for me. I don't know where you're getting the haunting atmosphere from, but I've heard haunting atmosphere.
I'm not trying to be a dick, but I just don't think the music is any good. It doesn't help that the game itself isn't any good to me, but the music puts me to sleep.
It just doesn't have a candle to songs like aquatic ambience, crocodile cacophony, the airship from super Mario Bros 3, the final boss in Yoshi's island, heck even big arms from Sonic 3. While I get music is subjective, I just feel that Nintendo's music blows Minecraft in its entirety out of the water.
Retrolord the stuff on the beta album is pretty eerie, especially the stuff that plays in the cave or the stuff they added in the Nether Update. Some of it is truly haunting
@@ItsRetroPlanet I think the music is only really haunting if A) you're listening to specific sings and B) you're actually playing the game. The music of Minecraft really goes hand in hand with the gameplay, and only experiencing one at a time kinda takes away from it imo. But that's just my 2 cents.

I've heard more haunting in resident evil. The safe haven music when you get to the save point just blows Minecraft out. I've heard scarier.

Yeah, I was so happy that they would finally add Mario, and then they decided to let Sonic punch him away and then blow him up, just like the killed Luigi in Simon's trailer.
I guess the Mario Brothers will never be playable in Smash.
I thought a sonic character was coming because sonic punched Mario away so I thought it was gonna be shadow or tails
if they don't include pigstep, I'll understand but I'd be annoyed.
If it isn't included it would probably be due to its recency or licensing issues with the artist, but if I was that artist I would say yes immediately upon being asked to have my song in Smash :p
It seems that they have been in contact with Microsoft and Mojang and working on this since 5 years ago. So it might not include the nether and whatever just came to Minecraft in recent years, sadly.

The messed up body proportions of the enderman are absolutely cursed. I shat my pants and thought it was like a Mii costume at first.
When I thought of Steve being in Smash, I pictured the more cartoony, animated type characters in Minecraft Story Mode. I think those would have fit better with the style of Smash Brothers, but I actually love how jarring and out of place Steve looks
Yeah, I'm feel similarly. I feel stupid for thinking Sakurai would have gone the Minecraft Story Mode art style now in retrospect. That's not how Sakurai DO! He makes characters so when you see them or play as them they look and feel like were ripped straight from their games, in their most iconic form, of course he wouldn't have been in the Story Mode art style.
Story Mode is basically a crappy fanfiction anyway. Microsoft have disassociated from TellTale after MCSM S2 ended so I think they would've rejected a Story Mode styled Steve even if it was what Sakurai wanted.

I’ll probably get lost in the comments but here’s what I picked up from the trailer:
1. The crafting table that gets placed is in the background, and looks like it lasts a long time, if not until Steve loses a stock
2. The minecart will bounce off walls, and Steve is able to jump out of it. If an opponent touches an empty minecart they will be carried away until they jump out of it.
3. The Elytra is the Recovery special, and looks like it can be angled, but you’ll probably be able to get a lot more horizontal distance from it rather than vertical.
4. The blocks will deteriorate after a while (indicated by cracks), and will deteriorate faster depending on the kind of block, with iron most likely breaking the fastest.
5. Perhaps there is some kind of inventory system involved with all the blocks you mine from the stage? I’m not quite sure yet.

Here’s two of the several good things and one bad thing I have found in this dlc
The good: Steve’s texture has always had this weird black square under his head, and if you look closely you can see the black square, and in the scene where he builds a house, those are the old Minecraft dlc skin packs
The only bad thing is that this I based off of bedrock edition and not java edition, I.e. Steve blinks, the textures look lighter, and the lighting is a little bit wonky

I'm curious if the announcer will actually say "Zombie!" And "Enderman!" When you select their alts because they had a splash screen and we're on the Sakurai Presents screen.

I don’t think there’s any character with a name swap that doesn’t have a unique announcer call. For example, Bowser Jr. and Olimar have alts with different names (Koopalings and Alph) and announcer calls. It’s basically guaranteed.
Do we know if Alex is an Echo fighter? Because if so we can assume Zombie is Steves Skin and Endermam being Alexs Skin.

@@naatikata8018 This makes Olimar and Steve the only characters in smash that skins with different announcer voice lines. (Echoes dont count)
(20:30) As we can see, the player on top added 6 blocks, so it's likely that the player in the middle added the 6 blocks in a straight line. Finally Steve added 4 wooden blocks. So at least 6 blocks can be placed during the development phase.
As an older gamer who picked up Minecraft with friends from time to time as a game to chill in. I'm fine with seeing Steve make it in after seeing his moveset. I went from mild dissapointment to curiously optimistic after seeing how he works. Plus Minecraft is the most sold game ever, and definitly a big part of gaming history.

Regarding the elytra, I don't think it works the same as pit's glide. Steve seems to fall and gain momentum before moving outward to gain distance, keeping momentum. The move ends when he lands. Pit, on the other hand, has a fixed launch in a constant direction, before the whole thing ends and he goes back to normal gameplay.
They should've stylized his name as "STEVE?"

A few seconds? That's amazingly long considering that the second they replaced they started to break.
The fact that sakurai had to go through each and every single stage and rework them just for this one mechanic, God it doesn't seem worth it. it doesn't even look like it's a strategic benefit, if the blocks are beginning to break immediately as you place them, what's the point of placing them. I expect it's just so that people don't edge guard with it, but honestly, this mechanic just isn't worth the hassle.

For the name of the stage, I'll go with "My World" because it's the default name of a new world, or "Overworld", because that is the name of the main "dimension" (Nether and The End being the other 2 dimensions, for anyone who doesnt know). And also, for the music this DLC brings, listen to the song "Pigstep", is a song introduced in the newest update. IT'S A BLAST OF A SONG. I hope we get Pidgstep with the DLC

Few thoughts when I watched the reveal;
-I thought it was the Copied City from Nier Automata when Mario smashed through the blocks. It took me until the noises to realize.
-Enderman as a skin makes me really happy as that has always been my favorite mob.
-You all can say whatever you want about Steve getting in, or this trailer; but that music was sooo good.
-The new stage looks absolutely amazing.
Why is there so much shock/surprise? Minecraft is one of the most iconic games ever, plus if Sakurai can make Mr. Game and Watch work than he could sure do it with Steve (he himself admitted how difficult it was, but not Impossible).

Yeah... As someone who has played Minecraft for over 8 years now, hearing them try to describe everything was just kinda painful. At least they tried lol
So what if they came out 5 years ago. That’s still like half of the games lifespan and it is a major part of the game.

I started playing beta Minecraft back when I was in high school. While I don't play Minecraft as much these days, I still love Minecraft and I'm super ecstatic about this reveal! I really didn't expect the mad man, Sakurai, to actually add this in.
What ever happened to “Steve?” in Smash? It’s all about Steve now.

It only makes me wonder what's the point. This mechanic had every stage reworked, for it to only be so complicated and unnecessary.

Did it? Because Sakurai didn't even look remotely pleased. There was no magic, no excitement in his voice. He badmouth his own boss on camera, and honestly, I don't blame him. he had to rework literally every single stage just to get one game mechanic to work, and just from seeing it, it feels so unnecessarily complicated. and the end result has the blocks deteriorating thus very millisecond you place them on the floor. Like what's the point of building something if it immediately disintegrates?
I feel bad for him. He didn't even ask for this. While the music is nice, and the stage itself is inoffensive, the character itself just seems like such a slug to use, and I don't see anyone seriously using him for anything other than a joke. Pretty much just another sans costume dilemma, I'm just going to stick with banjo.

To answer the question about how the blocks will work: you can see cracks forming on each one almost immediately after being placed, so it's safe to assume that they won't last very long on the stage.
I thought about the same thing with the darkness there. I was hoping to see a heartless pop out and Sora just slashes him

I’m liking the genre diversity that Fighter Pass 2 is showing so far
- 2/4 new DLC characters(or 5/7 from overall DLC) for SSB4 came from RPGs
- 3/5 characters from Fighter Pass 1(or 3/6 from the first wave of DLC) came from RPGs
I’m not against RPG characters getting added, and i wouldn’t be adverse to seeing more RPG characters in FP2. However it’s nice to see other genres get represented through DLC, especially in a series that’s evolved to celebrate the gaming medium as a whole
You can tell from the trailer that Sakurai isn’t super jazzed about this one.
After a hundred days worth of having to go through literally every single stage to get one mechanic to work, you could tell that he was super tired from this. there was literally no magic to this video, no excitement like he was with terry, you could tell just from his face that he was not happy making this. And we have Nintendo to blame for it. All just for kid money.
Like, the move itself, placing blocks doesn't even seem warranted. The minute the characters place those blocks they already start to deteriorate. I almost feel like even a single punch could probably break these things. So what's the point of having this mechanic if nobody feels inclined to use it? It feels tedious, literally having to find the materials in the stage in order to even build these things. It doesn't even feel strategically beneficial, it just feels like it was there just to be there. I feel bad for him, because it could have been much simpler of a character, but he was charged with making it the way it was. And even with all of this put down, this character is so divided between the community. Nowhere near the hype explosion that was Banjo-Kazooie or even joker a character that had pretty much no right to be in this game but was still welcomed with open arms.
And unfortunately, I feel the same way, this character just did not work for me. The character itself is boring, the animations look jank, and I know why, but it still doesn't translate well to me. And that's coming out of me, the same guy who loves Mr game and watch because he has jank animations.
I'm sorry if I sound like an a******, but it is what it is for me. This character just wasn't worth the hassle. Worst part is I'm going to have to buy it because I need to complete this game, to have all the content. and because I don't feel like getting my ass kicked for hours trying to figure out how Steve works online, I have to buy him in order to practice with him offline just so I can get a feel for his moves.
TL;dr: so much work put into one character for me not to like him. I'm sorry Mr sakurai, but this one is just not worth it.

Minecraft was never my thing but the delusion of grandeur that you think majority dislikes Steve because you dislike Steve is insanely egotistical.

After watching the Steve presentation, you are so full of shit for assuming Sakurai wasn’t happy making this.
Here’s a fun fact. Back in 2018 Sakurai did a full Famitsu article where he only talked about Minecraft. He shared his experience with the game and how excellent the game is. He also revealed he rarely goes back to games he already played unless he finds it personally interesting. Minecraft is one of those games.

Something I didn’t notice until now - 23:32 you can see the blocks degrade automatically over time. They appear to only last about 10 seconds or less
Just letting all of you know, on the Super Smash Bros. official desktop website, there seems to be three more character slots added to the DLC character section, make of it what you will.

It means nothing. Every time a character is added they have new slots on the website. It’s weird that 3 more showed up instead of just 1, but it’s just a glitch that happens when they add new characters

Kartuz no on the desktop website, besides the 4 next dlc, there was one more additional slot with room for three more, again I don’t know if means anything, it probably doesn’t, but I’ve never seen that on the website before

I saw Steve being in Smash in school and was hyped as hell
After staring at the trailer the entire discussion, I have decided my favorite part of the character so far is how went he is put to sleep (ex: Jigglypuff or Hero) he places a bed!

I feel like Steve is gonna be my main from this point on. If anything, the one thing I love is creating. Minecraft to me is like a digital LEGO. And I’ve played Minecraft for a good amount of time, so I could hone my PvP skills from playing in the servers.
Also props to Sakurai and his team for implementing the Minecraft gameplay into Smash.
Also, looking forward to the music in game.

This is such a crazy reveal, there's no way we won't get Crash now. I think they wanted to just make a crazy unexpected reveal before the more obvious candidate. Wouldn't be surprised at all if Crash is next.

By the way, the music that played in the background is a remix of “Halland,” the beta/secondary camp theme from Minecraft dungeons. I was a bit surprised when I heard it but it fits well.
I LOVE that Steve made it in. Minecraft is such big part of my gaming experience.
Mario looking at the camera like a cartoon character that just realized he is standing in mid air is the best part of the reveal.
