You mean a full scale Aeronca? My buddy has one but it's been grounded for years after it failed the wing spar inspection AD! I understand there's a metal replacement spar that's been approved but it's something north of 10k....maybe someday!
@@sonex413 Yes, mine is a later model 1964 and has the larger lycoming o235 stc. I'm still piecing it together, hope to be done soon. So good to see you guys having fun. The joy of these little models comes accross so well. As others have commented I'd love to see a video of the making of one the models featured, including trimming etc. Thanks for keeping me entertained in lock down UK.
Thanks, we do have fun! I did a build-along construction video series a while back, detailing the build of a simple model powered by a 10 Farad cap and a 6mm motor. I have received reports of success from several builders, including reports of models flying away! That Spitfire looks really great. Beautifully trimmed as well. Only a master practitioner of the noble art of free flight scale could get it to fly like that. Take a bow Gentlemen! Any chance of getting a Me 109 aloft at the same time? The sight of the two of them flying in a tight left hand turn would be something else.
This video is over six months old, which leads me to believe that you and Richie are either being held against your will or you have returned to your home planet. Good video, though. Post some more.

Great to see my Buddies out there doing it! I’m getting more than my $ worth, as my glasses are making me see double on my little phone. Ha! New one is going great! Once again... What a great field you guys have. ✨❤️✨ Thanks guys!
I'm thinking Free flight is my first love all along. YOu guys never learned how not to have fun in my opinion. Even if it caused you never to grow up. LOL I must say these super capacitors sure are tempting me to get back in.
We agree! Check out our video "Capacitor Free Flight Basics". Also. there's a video build-along series detailing the construction of a simple high performance model. Several viewers have built examples and we've received glowing reports of flight performance...including some out-of-sight flyaways....they really go! Thanks for checking in!
The rumours of our demise have been wildly exaggerated.....We're actually hanging in there OK! Hope you're doing well too! It's always a treat to hear from you, thanks for leaving a comment and take care!
Great to see a new video. I know some other people were getting really great performance out of capacitor planes and they were charging over recommended voltage. Last summer I took out an Estes capacitor plane and another plane using the same the electric. The charger that it came with uses 3 - AAA cells. That would be 4.5 volts. Well these planes that gave a fair performance 20 years ago, barely flew now. Do you think it was from charging over voltage or capacitors degrade over time or both?
I'm not sure about the caps going bad, we haven't seen anything like that...so far, they have been tolerating our "abuse" pretty well! Are you sure the old plane used a capacitor? Some of the really old electrics (like Mattel's "Superstar") used nicads and I would believe they go bad....Stay safe, Bill, good to hear from you!
@@sonex413 capacitor for sure, other people thought that charging at so much over voltage was really hard on capacitor. You will get a laugh out of this short video of me getting a one dollar rubber model out of a small tree ua-cam.com/video/enuNZ_vBldw/v-deo.html
Hi Phil! Thanks we love you too, wish you could hang out with us at the flying field! Well, I guess this is the next best thing....Camera on a plane? Sure, but you need a bigger plane than these of course. We have some drone footage on the computer which I need to edit up and upload...coming soon. Thanks for subbing, you'll get our updates and new videos. Mike and Rich
Thanks!! I will try to discuss the setup and trim in more detail in future videos. The Spit has a few degrees of down thrust and a few degrees of side thrust...the aircraft is as straight and flat as I could make it. All I did was put in a bit of left rudder trim. It flies well to the left, but when I originally set it up to fly to the right, it would turn into a right spiral!
Long time no see Mike ..🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️ Are you ok now ??? .....now so many problem becaus corona virus ... Always take care Mike .. i love the your flying 👍👍👍🙇♂️😎🍅
All good here. Limiting exposure to Richie and myself....we're both pretty much hermits in best of times, so not a huge change... You stay safe too! Thanks Andy!
If you fly to the left the turn will open up as the charge runs down. If yo fly to the right the turn will tighten as the charge runs down. I think flying to the right is better.
Yes! I'm pleased to report that I have purchased such a camera, a Nikon D3200 DSLR. I also picked up a zoom lens. Although not a dedicated video camera, it at least allows me to turn off the autofocus feature. We have shot a bit of video with the new cam...hopefully you and our other viewers will see a difference! Thanks for being a loyal viewer in spite of the occasional out of focus shots!
Dropping a wing to make your plane circle is a poor way to trim your flights. I would be more impressed is you attained wider circling with no appreciable drop in that left wing. Just my opinion. Other wise kudos.
Thanks! The supercap models are good cheap fun! If you're on facebook check out the "Sonex413 Pilots' Lounge" page there. It's a place to share pictures of what you built or trade a flying story.

Love it! I wonder if you could use some graphite from a pencil to lubricate the shaft on the BD-5?
That might help, but if I try it again I'll use some tiny ball bearings I found from a junk micro servo!
Agree great flying 👍

Why bother putting landing gear on the Spitfire? It only causes drag, adds more weight and if you want longer flights get rid of them.
Because it looks so cool! Besides, they are super light...made from foam just like the rest of the plane!
