  • Professor Dame Magdalene Odundo OBE is a Kenyan-British ceramic artist based in Farnham. Influenced by the ancient world, East Africa and the human form, Dame Magdelene has established herself as an internationally acclaimed sculptor and ceramicist. She completed her undergraduate degree at the West Surrey College of Art Design (now known as the University for the Creative Arts, Farnham) in 1976, and then undertook a teaching post at the Commonwealth Institute in Museum Education before completing her masters at the Royal College of Art. She returned to teach at UCA in 1997, becoming Professor of Ceramics in 2000 and inaugurated as a Professor Emerita in 2016, in recognition of her contribution to the University's research culture. Dame Magdalene has been Chancellor of the University for the Creative Arts since 2018 and we are proud that she is also an Ambassador for Farnham World Craft Town.
