Well done Simon I must say it was one of the harder ones as most of your really technical climbs are after the halfway point. But you pushed through and finished, and that is the most important point.

Hi Simon,I am Gavin from China,I contact with you finally at here! I am very happy some cameras in your video.I hope you could come to Chine for race next time.
Catching up on your videos, I noticed that you tend to carry the cameras in your right hand. Sometimes for extended time periods for lovely shots and sped up sections. Could the elbow problem from Cocodona be related to the filming stress?
Hmm interesting. Now that you say it, I can’t even say if I carry right or left. I feel I do both but selfies you’re right I lean on my right. Maybe it contributes, along with poles. I also noticed at work my elbow exactly where it’s painful is always leaning on table. Maybe all of these? It’s just odd it came at Cocodona so early - I’ve raced longer before. I guess we’ll never really know for sure, and I mostly hope this doesn’t become a recurring issue.
No sadly I will do it solo. She was going to crew, but last minute she got a business trip she can't skip - Monday through Thursday! I'll probably be almost done by the time she is back. It's unfortunate, but I take it as an extra challenge. I'm mostly concerned about my gear, dropbag, and charging my things like headlamp and camera. And yes, kind of crazy to race fuji 1 week before. I just got an opportunity last minute to race it, and quite frankly, I couldn't say no to such epic race. My hope is that because cocodona is more hiking than running, maybe it won't be so bad that I'm race so close to Fuji. ...but we'll see! Luckily aravaipa and the live stream will capture all of my pain :/
Hey Simon, as I'm watching the video I ask myself how you did the fueling with this long time between the Aid- Stations. Thanks for the Video and "light Legs" for the next big one!! Greetings from Bavaria, Germany :) P.S. finished my first 65k because of your great content! Thank you so much!
I was eating as much as I could while at aid station. That meant sitting down and taking extra time, but worth it. Then on trails was mostly bananas and when available also energy gels
Not sure - it might be because there are so many runners. I've been poked by poles more time than I can count in larger race like Leadville... Especially at the start, it's so crowded. And Fuji is probably 4-5x larger. It might also be to protect the trails in some areas. Or it might be old school thinking stating that "poles are cheating". I'm sure they have their reason, and it's not the only race I've done which bans them - but it's an odd choice for a race that has so many steep climbs and descent. It used to be a Hardrock qualifier too!
You could easily make a wrong turn and get lost. What if is there an emergency and you are in the middle of nowhere nobody around? Amazing you are in very good shape.
It turned out course marking was VERY good. And because there's so many runners, I was (almost) never truly alone. For wrong turns, I had the course on my watch so that wasn't too bad. I think the real fear I had was to trip or slide on mud - and fall down a cliff. It's hard to show it on camera, but some segments it would have been very easy to fall, and you would fall for a very very long time. That's especially true when you're in your second night of running - tired and weak legs. I hope nobody got hurt, but that's something that actually happened at HURT 100 earlier this year. I didn't see it but I heard of at least 1 runner tripping and falling off a cliff. Breaking their leg in the process. Very scary! ua-cam.com/video/g_n-QXWsONc/v-deo.html
Not allowed. Not sure why but it’s in the rules. Not the only race with such rules - it’s probably because it’s crowded. But poles would be amazing here
If I were younger and if I had at least one 100m under my belt.. It would absolutely be the one race I would covet but I am very aware that for me 50 miles is sufficient.... If I were 40 not 60 years.. 100 % I would do my upmost to do M. F x
The pain from chafing was really bad… because other pain Id slow down or something - you don’t want to push through this level of pain if it could be a knee or ankle injury. But now I knew it was but a flesh wound.
Glad I was able to release this before cocodona next week. It was a lot of work to put this so quickly but was eager to share this wild adventure with you all! ...Maybe not smart to run this 1 week before cocodona...we'll see.

I guess we’ll never really know for sure, and I mostly hope this doesn’t become a recurring issue.
these 100 milers look sooo tough.
Yeah this one and the latest QMT100 were pretty rough. But fun!
OMG, I don't believe you did this one week before Cocodona! Is Nora going to crew you?
Greetings from Bavaria, Germany :)
P.S. finished my first 65k because of your great content! Thank you so much!
I was eating as much as I could while at aid station. That meant sitting down and taking extra time, but worth it. Then on trails was mostly bananas and when available also energy gels
Why weren’t poles allowed?
Very scary!

Dude why do i get the feeling those last 3 bonus miles were harder than the 100 race miles 😂
haha - maybe not harder, but they were certainly annoying!!!
why no one use poles?
Not allowed. Not sure why but it’s in the rules. Not the only race with such rules - it’s probably because it’s crowded. But poles would be amazing here
If I were younger and if I had at least one 100m under my belt.. It would absolutely be the one race I would covet but I am very aware that for me 50 miles is sufficient.... If I were 40 not 60 years.. 100 % I would do my upmost to do M. F x
They do have the kai70 which is I think 45ish mile.
@@runningwithsimon oh that's worth knowing, thankyou x
Never seen you suffer so much Simon you looked in a bad way
The pain from chafing was really bad… because other pain Id slow down or something - you don’t want to push through this level of pain if it could be a knee or ankle injury. But now I knew it was but a flesh wound.
