    CJ,.. A much easier, faster and much safer way to replace in the plugs is to use a piece or 3/8" id rubber hose, approx. 8" long, simply put the plug in the feed it down and begin screwing it in, you can't cross thread because of the grip on the plug and its also self entering then follow up with the torque setting and your done.

    Hi CJ, thanks for the very helpful video. I changed the plugs on my GSX650F today and noticed that there are a couple of spark plug spanners in the tool roll that comes with the bike. These plug spanners are excellent because they have rubber inside them and grip the plug so that you can just lift it out effortlessly. It also helps with installing the new plugs as you don't need to drop them down the hole which risks damaging the plug or changing the gap.

    I just change plugs on my Suzuki GSF650 bandit (same engine) the tool set under the seat have two different sparkplug-socket one for the middel two with a longer adapter and one for the outer two with a shorter one that also can bend more, both have rubber linings with in.

    I just did the replacement today. Took 30 minutes with fairing already dismantled. I used the spark plug tool from the toolset. This is very short, so i extended the tool with a standard wrenchset.
    For the rest, i followed the same steps as you describe except i did not need the plastic iginition grabber as the standard suzuki tool has a rubber inner grabberlike plug which draws the plugs out of the hole very easy. Inserting new ones in reverse order.
    The hardest one was the plug behind the cooling system. Although the bolts were removed, it was still difficult to reach, but i succeeded. The outer plugs were a little difficult because of the ignition coils had to be rotated 180 degrees. So it is not a hard job, but as UVjoint already stated, the original toolset can be used(almost).

    Brilliant video. Well done chum. Tip for lifting out and removing the plugs. Use a length of rubber tubing that’s a snug fit over the ceramic part of the plug. Good for replacing the plug too.

    Excellent and helpful video. One thing I would perhaps add would be that before refitting the fairing lower fairing halves would be to run the bike up making sure the plug connections are sound. It would be a pain if there was a dodgy connection and you had to remove fairings again.

    Hello CJ. I just bought a 2013 GSX-650F and was quite pleased to find your channel as I prepared to perform some of the basic maintenance . I used the oil & filter change and air filter videos to help me complete the tasks with relative ease. I found your “How to Change Spark Plugs” video very helpful. I have one suggestion that might be helpful to the viewers. I made a small string lasso and gently wrapped the loop under the top of each two inner spark plug tubes; with a gentle tug each one popped out quite easily. Thanks for making these videos. Perhaps you might get back into riding in the future.

    FOR THOSE TRYING TO UPGRADE TO NGKS CR8E
    YOU WILL NEED A 16MM SPARK PLUG SOCKET.
    I ASSUME CJ HAD A DIFFERENT PLUG. MY BIKE HAD NGKs INSIDE AND I TRIED WITH THE PLUG SO HARD I CRACKED THE PLASTIC SHIELDING AND THANKFULLY THE 10MM SOCKET WAS ABLE TO "CATCH" THE PLUG BECAUSE OF THE JAGGED PLASTIC EDGE GRIPPING THE INSIDE OF THE SOCKET.
    WHAT A MESS

  • @OskarNy97

    My spark plug (new and existing) was size 16mm with the sparkplug-socket. Also when using a good quality sparkplug-socket there is Rubber within them which make it possible to insert and remove the plug easily:)

      I have a restrictor kit on my gsx650f, its hell to mount it and dismount it, but it is only 2 bolts that hold it, you need to take of the tank and a extra long screw driver to get it in, and small hands because it is tight as fuck.

    Hey CJ! Thanks a lot for all your GSX650F videos - they've been really helpful to me.
    I have a quick question about the spark plug socket - have you tried using the two sockets in the toolkit under the seat? I checked mine and found that there are 2 sockets with a hinged section (presumably for easily sliding it into the spark plug opening). They both have rubber inserts that are probably for gripping the spark plug. There's also a crescent wrench that fits one end of the socket.
    I'm only asking because I'll have to check and probably replace my spark plugs, and I can't find a 10mm socket anywhere online.

    • @CJMPH
      @CJMPH  6 років тому +1

      Hi mate, glad to hear it :) I never used the toolkit under the seat because mine were all rusty and not particularly nice to use. The fact that they have the rubber inserts would push me towards agreeing with you that they are for spark plugs but on the flip side, I would be surprised if they included that piece as the seat toolkit is more of an emergency kit and I wouldn't have thought many people would use it for this kind of job. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Thanks for commenting

    • @UVjoint
      @UVjoint 6 років тому

      Yeah, I thought so too (about the kit being more for emergencies). But this was mentioned in another video, where replacing a Bandit's spark plugs was discussed (by Delboy, if you know him).
      I'll provide an update here about my attempts.

    • @UVjoint
      @UVjoint 6 років тому +1

      CJ, I can confirm that those two tools from the toolkit with the pivots in them fit the spark plugs. I used the short one for the outermost cylinders, and the long one for the two annoying inner ones.
      One question though - after finishing everything and putting the fuel tank back on, I feel like the gap between the tank and frame is bigger now. I made sure to slide the front lip under the triangular rubber damper, and checked a few times to ensure there's no fouling. It seems like the rubber dampers on the sides are causing it. Any suggestions on what I can do?

    • @CJMPH
      @CJMPH  6 років тому +1

      Sorry for the late reply, thanks for confirming mate, thats good to know about the tools.....I always think the same thing when I put my tank back on. That's certainly how mine is too, not enough space to get a finger in the gap but not too far off.
