    I'm glad this video didn't overhype "AI", as in "AI will cure cancer, disease, and aging". It can act as a "pattern recognition" aid. Or "combinatorial" explorer to search for drug candidates, to try out. It's one tool, amongst many, in what is a long process, which includes lots of real world testing (clinical trials), the most time consuming part.

    • @SolutionsWithin
      @SolutionsWithin 5 місяців тому +2

      Umm right now it just gets through large data to find patterns etc., but in the future it certainly will do much bigger things like diagnosing and curing disease and it could happen fast bc ai learns fast.

    "We cannot delay death, but we can do something about aging"? If there is no aging, then wouldn't that delay death? If I would die from aging at, say, 146, and then due to aging being cured, I don't, will I die to a car crash on the same day instead? Or how is it supposed to work that curing aging would not delay death? This makes no sense.

    • @cacogenicist
      @cacogenicist Рік тому +8

      You're right, of course, that doesn't make sense. Dramatically slowing down or reversing (preferably) aging will obviously extend lifespan. To a lot of people significantly extending healthy lifespan sounds _crazy,_ or like complete fantasy, or something -- so the whole lifespan extension part often gets deemphasized in such conversations.

    I have been fascinated by anti-ageing science for a long time. One problem that I see never spoken of is political/societal opposition. I have spoken to so many people that think that it is "unnatural" to cure ageing, that I think this will be the biggest challenge.

    • @wokeaf1337
      @wokeaf1337 Рік тому +5

      It is only a challenge when the people u are talking to are not aware of the state of mankind's fertility. The days of our species are numbered, fertility is declining by 1% each year which means our species's population will peak at the end of this century and from there it will decline.

      Well if you live to aged 80, that takes you up to 2065. Its conceivable that by then we will have the medical interventions to extend lifespan by another 20 years. Which takes you to 2085. And maybe those additional 20 years will allow for further research to give you another 20 years. And then the process continues. This concept is known as longevity escape velocity.

    Things are as they are by chance people, we humans are a moment in the evolution of matter.
    A moment when matter, having already become alive, then thinking, begins to understand its own intimate structures to be able to act, even empirically, on the process of degeneration that we call aging and, therefore, on its death.
    It would be enough to get started, and quickly, and thoroughly.
    In any case, it will happen, in not long, a generation or two at most hopefully.
    So, by speeding up the process a little, we might be entitled to it, we who are talking.

    And the wrong key can cause life long iatrogenic injuries, modern medicine isn’t perfect, there’s a lot of nuance and it’s not as simple as keys and not as pretty as rainbows and unicorns.
    Prescribed harm in 2020 but I’m cautiously optimistic about this and I really hope it helps science and improving drug efficacy and personalized health care
    I’m 23 with medical problems, im not poor, i live in a middle class family, being poor isn’t the only indicator for poor health, living in a system that medicates poor people with dangerous medications might be why we have issues that aren’t getting solved in medicine, regenerative personalized evidenced based medicine would be a great thing for the future that doesn’t exist in the present
