Dr. Kananga was probably one of THE most polite bad guys in all the Bond movies. Even when Roger Moore would insult him again and again, Kananga was still cordial and polite! And I love the way his main henchman TeeHee stands there with that grin just waiting for the word to do some damage👍🏻
Practically all of the villains in Live And Let Die, were all socially polite, Kananga, Tee-Hee, Baron, the Cab driver. And that is one of things I love best about this movie

Yaphet Kotto is a great actor and is terrific in this scene. Unfortunately he's cut off in his prime but he's certainly one of the very best Bond villains. The recent ones just don't cut it.

One thing I like about Kananga is that he's a criminal mastermind who's also a physical threat to Bond when it comes to fisticuffs. Puts him right up there with Largo from Thunderball and Sanchez from License to Kill, among a few others.
This was a fantastic debut for and from Roger , gritty and contemporary ( as a Bond film can be ) , fresh take on Bond owing nothing to Sean shame the producers didn't do more with Moore in the following films and the series started to age very badly till Dalton took over. Also it has non of the fake soul searching BS of the Craig era either non of that Bond wanting to get breast milk from M stuff.

Even adjusted for inflation a 5513 back in 1973 would of cost about $200 brand new which is only about $1,250 in todays money. Now secondhand they’re about $25,000 resale because of Rolex’s modern day luxury status. Also being a big 007 fan I read about Syd Cain the prop master talking about how he modified the Rolex in the movie. Also watching the behind the scenes features in movies also helps to gain information. Because of Bond I love watches.
I liked this scene because it is one of the only times Bond has gone up against a "street thug" type. Also how it pisses Kananga off that he can't intimidate him with his "Mr Big" persona.

Whisper is Earl Jolly Brown. I'll never forget when Kananga fires the compressed air dart into the leather sofa and it expands to blow up with the fat boy sitting in it. I laughed so hard I fell out of my chair.
As I remember reading. When they made this film, the role of Solitaire was supposed to be played by Diana Ross. The studios balked because it would have shut the movie out of the South African theaters. A giant source of revenue. And maybe, the American south.
Ut would be even better if he looked convincely different. I love this movie. But he looks just like himself without the mask. They could at least changed the colour a bit. Added a bit more of flesh to some parts too.
If you look at the restraint on Bond's chair it looks like he could escape by bringing his arm in. The restraints don't seem to go over his wrists enough.
