Very inspirational! I was so unwise at your age financially. Great motivation.
Regarding the children, remember they will NEVER be as young as they are today. What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul... your children are apart of your soul... please don't forsake fun times with them for the hustle of achieving a financial goal. The great thing is, children are not like grown ups, they value spending time with you MORE than they value stuff you buy them... you sound very wise so I'm certain you're already aware and engaged in loving and enjoying your life with hubby and children.
I'm sure you're aware of life insurance and whole life products that earn cash values...
Can't wait to hear your overview in 5 years.

She mentioned 18k max out on pre-tax retirement accounts. Can she explain that further? I thought that Pre-tax Retirement accounts max out around 5k. I think I missed something.

The more you save & invest it earlier, the better off you are.
Saving just 10-15% is for suckers & if you want to be a corporate slave for your whole life!
15+ yr. Home mortgage is also ridiculous, when you can actually pay off an affordable home in 5-7 yrs!

Putting so much into a retirement account is kind of risky though, with a market correction due soon, I couldn't imagine losing 36% of my retirement account in a unexpected crash.

I don't plan on accessing the money in my retirement accounts anytime soon, so even if there were a crash, I would be able to ride it out until the market rebounds... and the market always rebounds. Also, your comment is not completely off base but its not the act of putting money into retirement accounts that's risky, it's what kind of investments you can have in these retirement accounts that determines the level of risk. If I were investing in all bonds and low risk funds then an equity market crash wouldn't cause big swings in my portfolio. Right now, most of my holdings are in equity but I can take that risk because I don't plan on tapping into this money for another 20 years. Once I near retirment or if I decided I wanted to tap into the money earlier, I would adjust my holdings and be more conservative.
