My Ramshorn tank is absolutely covered with gooey eggs and hundreds of babies, try using 1 tsp organic baking soda with 2+ tbsp. Epsom salts to get your GH up to 18! replace a fresh piece of cucumber everyday to keep them full and water crystal clean. I find snow/king crab shells way better than egg shell or cuttle bone. give it a try Mark you will be happy
Thats excellent information Joel thanks for sharing it :)
Any update Mark? I have 2 new snail bowls started just to try and find the best parameters.
5 yrs later, I’m seeing the video for the first time, great video mate! I use a bit of aragonite with my tap water, brings ph to 8.0 and tds to around 400
Rams horns are awesome and so hardy. I have mine in with Java moss and some pothos with the roots in the water. The pothos roots had some root rot, they chewed that all off and the roots are growing again. Love them. I call them water bunnies, lol.
thanks for the egg shell thing. just got a bunch of snails to breed for my puffer fish and for ornimental purposes.... i received 10 ramshorns 10 trumpets and 10 pond snails.... 💋
Are they can live in the 5lt bottle
I have no idea what I'm doing so came to check out some videos, I have a huge bucket in my garden full of old pond water, and found theres hundreds of healthy ramshorns in there! I took some and put them in a tank with the same water to check them out and now they've all laid eggs round the sides!
I just did this in a 5 gallon bucket about a week ago. My water is already hard so I did not have to buffer the water. Nice setup.
Thank you my friend :)
I also setting up Ramshorn snail tank to keep my cute Ramshorn snails.. 😃😍
This tank worked toooo good, if you can use a round container because they are much easier to clean.
where can i find that aqua gh booster? i searched high and low for it on amazon 😭
Thanks for the info. I liked the video. I have a tank with about 10 Ramshorn snails in it. I am trying to breed them for my Cuban false chameleon's. Question, did you put in regular chicken egg shells and do they eat them? I ended up getting a little heater for mine, at least until winter is over because their water was quite cold. I have not seen any breeding yet, and I've had them a couple of weeks. I do have land snails and those do breed nicely.
I like shrimps too shrimps are beautiful creatures
OMG Mark shame you live so far away, I have all colours of ramshorn snails 🐌 red blue pink leopard spotted. And others. I have two guppy tanks and one floor of the biggest tank is just plastered with babies. My cares said what lovely colour stones you have, and then screamed the stones are alive 😂
Anita Williams lol
Are they can live in the 5lt bottle
Did he say Norway?
Very nice video! I'm preparing another video that is very similar to this one but with my viewpoint and tips. I have the clips but this is only a small part of the process. I need more free time...
Always interesting to see different ways to make everything! :)
Oh I look forward to it Carlos.
Thanks for sharing I didn't know the snails needed to gulp air to survive.
Only some of them do some have lungs like us and some have gills like fish :)
You need to make a forum so we can all share pictures and stories
You know I might just do that ,I will look into it :)
I love these tubs you can do so much with them .... good job 🤗
great for doing things with but not so great for youtube viewing through :D
Marks Shrimp Tanks 😂😂
I breed them for my pea puffer in a 2.5 gallon tank :)
are they can live in the 5lt bottle
@@can4422 snails? Yeah
I need some for the same reason!
i have a snails only tank... what can i feed them and how can i make sure the calcium levels are good?
greens like peas, lettuce, kale, spinach 👍
@@MarksShrimpTanks thanks!
Nice video Mark. Thank you. I've 2 spotted nerite snails in my shrimp tank. Would you recommend me to add ramshorn snails???
I never knew anything about these (ramshorn) snails.
why not ,I will try and get some blue ones next year :)
Egg shells-do you treat the shells beforehand or do you just put pure untouched shells in the tank pls? Also, can egg shells benefit neo cardinias?
they leech out calcium over time and they build up a nice biofilm which benefit shrimp and snails .
Thanks Mark....I'll save the next she'll :)
Marks Shrimp Tanks for shrimptanks how would you and how much of the eggshells can i put in a nano cube of 20 liters,With about 30 shrimps and a couple of starting ramshorns in it?
But a very interesting way of setting up a snail 🐌 tank I like it brilliant. They also like to lay eggs under leaves 🍃 similar to the pond lily Mark if that's any help to you 👍🏻
Love your videos Mark. Please keep them coming.
so its ok if i put 10 galoon tank with only 3 snaiks?
I have the same problem with my snails I gotta calcium block I'm wondering if it will raise the GH. it's Zoo Med mr. Turtle slow releasing calcium block
yup raise the gh and feed them high calcium foods ,This video is a week old to me now and the snails are laying eggs like crazy :)
Oh also how long do you think it will take for them to build in number before you can start selling them?
No idea Mark ,I did do a bucket tank when I first started my channel and I had thousands of baby snails in it and then I put them all in mu big cull tank .They didnt do so well in there so now I am revisiting the idea to make it work this time :)
Fair enough, keep us updated!
What are some top snails for tank mates with crystal shrimps?
Hey Mark,I want to breed Ramshorn snails in a 5.5 Gallon Tank.So what is the maximum limit of them I can have?
hundreds and hundreds just remember they are dirty eat a lot of food and need hard water.
@@MarksShrimpTanks yeah I'll add cuttlefish bone, some shells and crushed corals to make water Hard.So can I have around 200 as a max limit?
yeah probably
Snails can fix holes and cracks if they aren’t severe enough to kill them - they just need a good calcium source in that time
Thats cool to know thank you.
Great video! Would you please tell me about the egg shells? Are they to be a food source or does their dissolution contribute something your water lacks? A calcium thing, maybe...
And Prime... hahaha. Such an awesome product must have one flaw!
Yup calcium deficiency ,I just wanna make sure there is enough :)
Very true .
Thank you for answering! Questions, questions, questions... Do you prepare the shells in any way before adding them? Do you use them in your shrimp tanks, as well?
I just clean them out and put them in :)
How many snails will that container produce and how often? I am getting a young Figure 8 Puffer and would like to setup a couple breeding colonies to supply at least a 2-3 small snails a day for the puffer. Greatly appreciate the video! Cheers
I really dont know ,I do know they will produce thousands of babies but I dont really know the growth time sorry ..we shall find out though :)
Keep up on the uploads Mark, interesting video, just to clarify are those chicken egg shells you are on about? And must have missed out, but why do you use them? Calcium?
Yeah they are chicken eggs ,bit getto looking but they do the job of providing some calcium .
Interesting thank you Mark.
+ Marks Shrimp Tanks, Cheers for the egg shell advice,
Ive recently created a wildlife garden pond, and put 10 Ramshorn snails in it, and they dont even mind the pond freezing over for days on end, as they appear to migrate to the bottom of the pond when it gets really cold, since it got warmer, they are all hanging around just below the surface, (Ramshorn snails are good for garden ponds, as they eat rotting leaves, and that prevents the tannin from discolouring the pond water), Ive got no air pump in the pond, but Ive got some oxygenating plants, they appear to like Hornwort, I dont know if they are eating it, or just hanging around in it.
Organic Kevin did you find out if they were eating them or just liked hanging around in it? That’s quite interesting if it’s a favourite choice of them to “relax” in :)
Hi Mark, can you do a video about plastic tubs and shrimp in general? Is it possible to set up a large plastic storage tub as a tank?
Hello ,in every monthly video i show you my cull tanks and its made of plastic and I have hundreds of shrimp in it ,just set them up the same way you do a glass tank :D
Marks Shrimp Tanks is there any specific type of plastic tub you would recommend or any I should avoid?
Nice video, good job! I have been looking into breeding nerites. Neritina natalensis, Neritina turrita.
Any pointers on that? Brackish water breeder. Found almost zero info on that, but they are so good algae eaters, seems it should worth it.
I cant really help you there my friend ,I did have them along time ago and they are probably the best thing ever for keeping a tank clean and clear of algae.
Will a Cory cat fish eat baby red cherry shrimps because one of my cherries has had eggs for about 3 weeks and almost ready to hatch
Yeah they will ,best thing you can do is give the baby Cherry Shrimp lots and lots of hiding places and with a bit of luck most of them will survive :)
I got a good patch of moss and a nice chunk of drift wood in there
What is the broad leaf plant you have in your cull bin?
I have Anubias,Two types of Java fern and a couple of types of crypts and thats it I think .
***** I think it is the Anubias,that I was seeing,it is a big bunch,I didn't recognize it.
What temperature do they need in order for the eggs to develop and hatch?
They are at 22c ,I have a newer video of them and they are really thriving now :)
Subscribed because beautiful tank setups.
Thank you kind Sir :D
Thank you for this video, liked and subscribed:)
Thank you sir :)
prime smells like sulfur sulfate, nasty rite? thanks for sharing friend.
The smell changes over time ,when I first got it I checked the smell and nothing ,now it reeks lol ,I have had bottles that have smelt like rotten eggs before .
great video!
Thanks buddy :)
Wouldn't a kh buffer be better for calcium deficiency?
Hello Tyler ,Technically there is no calcium deficiency ,the problem with my snails is they have always lived in softwater which erodes the snails shell because its acidic.
Bro can we keep shrimp and snail in same tanks???
Arvind samy of course!!
I finally found some Prime, now waiting on my TDS meter.
Mark how are the blue bolts going did you get any females : )
I can tell two of them so far are girls but no eggs yet .
What type of found do u use?
any algae/vegatable type food is good for them
Marks Shrimp Tanks :) whay tipe of substrate do you prefere? (For a shrimp culture)
Akadama or amazonia :)
It’s the sulfur in prime. Smells like rotten eggs
Looking at getting these in my 350ltr
what type of mosses do you have in your shrimp tank?
The Only moss I have is weeping moss :)
That's why your tank is always full :D (Cuz Weeping moss XD)
New sub!🙂🎉
Thanks for subbing!
what's the difference in TDS and gh
Gh measures General Hardness while TDS measure the Total Disolved Solids which would be everything that it can read.
because I use RO water the TDS is only ever going to be a measure of the Gh anyway because of the salts I use to buffer,The salty bee shrimp buffer I use only buffer up the gh ,This might not be 100%accurate but it gives you an idea of what I am talking about..tds100 would be a 4 gh .tds 120 would be a 5gh tds 140 would be a 6gh and so on .
The only thing I ever use now is a tds meter:)
Now if you had Just a little more room for about 2-3 more tanks you could breed a pair of fancy Bristle nose pleco's a hand full of Apple snails and be a one stop shop for a complete clean up crew! It's what I'm working on myself and it is going fairly well even though it wasn't what I set out to breed in the first place...
Shrimp are enough for me and I am already planning on adding alot of new tanks for next year :)
Ayy ya made a video on the tub ;)
I made this a week before you mentioned the other tub lol
Marks Shrimp Tanks ah lol
Very interesting video Mark! I was just wondering, whats the main difference between Red Rams Horns and malaysian trumpet snails. :)
They are different species of snail ,one is round and one is trumpet shape .
So it's mainly a visual difference?
Just like when you have different birds ect .
Ok, thank you :)
Try adding a piece of zucchini. Microwave it until soft, put a plant weight thru the skin and let it settle to the bottom of tank. Should be full of snails next am. Just lift out and dispose.
Thank you Steve i will try that :)
Steve Finestone spinach and pee s without the outside. 1 strand of spaghetti (pasta only one piece and keep it to only 12 times a year or less.)
all 3 if them big attrction and lovely video and photography time.
Nice
Why do you have a sponge filter when they come up for air
Because I will feeding them alot and the tank still needs filtration :)
Op gamer also should help keep the water from stagnating
Thanks
I literally can't stop these guys breeding, they just don't ever stop. On the plus side they make excellent algae and cleaner crews. I've seen only 1 medium size snail completely renovate an anubia plant. In less than a week the plant which was quite badly marked with green and brown algae, was 70% clean. 2 weeks it was stripped clean. Prolific doesn't quite describe how quickly they multiply :)
Thats what I want to hear Alan !! :D
Let's see an update!
You will today :)
I feed mine tums calcium tablets, my goal is to get perfect shells, it can be done
Its my goal too, I see some shrimp breeders having low ph tanks and their ramshorn snails are perfect, mines become pitted and eroded.
@@MarksShrimpTanks ya man, I've been looking around, and it seems like all the top breeders who are selling recomend the tablets, I don't think a cuttle bone is accessible enough, the tablets they can just eat. I also noticed my shrimp were grazing on it too, I think it'll be super beneficial to them. Anyway, good luck man, I love your videos!
Yo know whats weird is I have a tank with added calcium and they snail shell are pitted and in another tank where the ramshorns are perfect the water is very soft, I dont get it I feed the tanks all the same stuff.
@@MarksShrimpTanks Hmm, I don't have any experience to back it up, but if you're using cuttlebone, it would make sense because the soft water would make it more "melty" so they can eat it better. The harder water would make it disolve less, so they can't scrape it off. I really hope the tablets work for me, because I hate seeing them all beat up. Anyway, thank you so much for sharing your experience, if I get good or bad results I'll come back and let you know
that would be cool because its definitely something I would like to find out, thank you.
my rams repair with egg shell that has been nuked in a microwave for a few secs and washed and broken up.
Thats a good tip ,thank you :)
we too, works great.
are they can live in the 5lt bottle
Prime always smells nasty. 😂
Nice choice on the red Rams. Their colour really comes out nice under led light. Good cleaners too.
Shame i never really cared for mine but your video has inspired me to try something similiar.
Are you picking smaller rams deliberatly to see if their shells heal better?
I seem to have a lot of larger ones....some the size of a 20 pence. 😮
xxx
Hello Yanny ,I bought 10 last year and the plan was to sell them but I never really got round to looking after them properly and no I m not picking small ones ,they are the biggest I have got ..theY really dont like soft water.
The tub is hard water and I can already see they have been doing things in there lol :D
lol.
yeah. noticed they didnt like soft water. was one of my main problems here.
Scottish water is a bit soft. 😅
you may need to pull out any brown ones that may appear. often found my reds still produced brown young.
The variety of ramshorns is fascinating. started myself with 5 red and 5 brown.
:)
By the way your Scottish right ?
yes. Currently living in Inverness but raised in Fort William. :)
not that most people know where that is. 😂
Yanny Bean Oh I love that area ,I have had some of my best fishing trips around that area fantastic place :)
Where are you from??? I am from M A R S
Hello,I'm from astroid belt just behind you
LOL, Prime reeks !
You know I had a bottle where some prime had crystallized around the cap ,I could not get rid of the smell lol
Me too, its so much cheaper in the larger volumes and it seems to last forever. I wonder if its sulpher? Thanks for all the info Brother.Great channel!
Good👍👍👍👍👍
Cheers:)
Ha! Holy opposite world. The water where I live is basically liquid rock. I often wonder how it makes it up the hill from the lake.
I have to use a machine to make mines soft , Happy New Year :)
@@MarksShrimpTanks are they can live in the 5lt bottle
Step 1: add water Step 2: add snails
Done
🤣
Can The Killers the Asian snail kill the shrimp babies eggs?
Mark did you add a full cap of Prime to that 5 gallon tote:) that's enough to treat 50 gallons and it will bind with oxygen after it gets all the chlorine :)....crap assassin snail eat shrimp? i better feed mine good
No it was probably 8th of a cap ,I normally only put a few drops in when I use tapwater ,If you feed your assassins they wont eat your Shrimp ..mines liked a high protein pellet and started to breed lol.
Eventually I caught all of them and moved them to my daughters fishtank .
Did your snail breeding project go badly?
Yes but not in the way you think, there were thousands of them in there so much so it was super messy and hard to clean, I eventually changed them over to a round based bucket .
I have Ramshorn Snails, Mystery Snails, Nerite Snails, Spixi Snails, Malaysian Trumpet Snails, and Pond Snails together. The Nerite Snails eat the eggs of the others. So I am only getting a few Trumpet Snails born.
@@ZomBeeNaturel thought Trumpet snails were livebearers 🤷🏼♀️
@@gayefanner731 that is probably true. I don't have any aquariums right now. I like the idea of having snails though. 🐌
@@ZomBeeNaturel keep my snails in twelve large pickle jars, started off with two for Ramshorns and gradually got carried away with Wandering snails and Bladder snails, Water lice, Ostracods, Copepods etc. Never needed a water change, its been seven months, crystal clear water, beautiful plants. Try it ! ✌️
3000?????????????? already??????????????????????????????????
3005 this morning ,cant believe how fast my channel is growing :D
ull be famous
#Snails 🐌
Thank you
Np
If you don't separate blue and red horn snail, you'll get dirty colored snails.
probably ,I only have red ones at the moment though so no need to worry :)
What was so successful ? We dont need click bait from you
so I didnt move hundreds of them to a larger round bucket ? and then I didnt move them to my 200 liters tanks where there was so many it looked a right mess ? all documented on my channel in the updates. 🤦♂️ pure clickbait so it was.😂
