K.Rool has the issue of having to sing in character like Diddy, but he's much better at finding a balance between the two whereas Diddy leans way closer to character than good singing voice

Emo hit the mainstream in the 00s but it existed before then.

I found a comment on an article on RetroJunk on this show from the late Erika Strobel, who was one of the head writers, she explained that the show's French producers were really insisting on the songs and the Canadian crew had no idea why, but she felt the song writers did a great job regardless. She also said that had there been another season they would have done a Christmas special and that the original writers for season 1 had to be fired and their scripts rewritten because they kept putting in really dirty and apparently racist and sexist jokes that weren't appropriate for kids. She also said that despite the show's mixed reputation, she loved working on it and had there been another DK show she would have tried to write for it as well.
Heres one of DIC head writers explaining why some DIC shows had music: "they could add songs (...) and collect extra residuals from ASCAP/BMI (the group that pays song royalties - DiC makes deals with songwriters to split or sign over the rights to their compositions - exactly the same way that they force the writers and story editors to sign over all rights to their stories.)" Maybe thats also why the songs are in DK too? If its true, then the writers and singers genuinely didnt have to go this hard

I think this show's music is actually amazing. Not every song's good but most of the vocal performances are great. Even annoying ones like Diddy or K. Rool manage to sing on key without losing the voice.
Never watched the full series, myself. I watched a special version that was four episodes basically merged into a single film. Legend Of The Crystal Coconut was the first episode in that "compilation" and "Tell Me Everything" became my main memory of this show overall.
