Therion is the best character to start with by a mile. Not only can he steal stuff to carry you easily through the game, he is the only one that can open the special purple chests. It sucks to not have therion when you are in front of these chests which is usually located in the middle of a hostile zone.
That's who I started out with too. He seems to get a lot of flack though I think being able to steal and his attack power at the start is pretty damn good
Maining Cyrus: reveal every enemy's weakness Maining Therion: can always open chests Probably both! And also Ophilia. I can't imagine not wanting a healer, and I'm very invested in her story. Good thing they give us nine save slots, yes?
Luckily, you get to meet up with all eight heroes on your journey. But I don't think I'd even use most of the heroes. I'm the kinda guy who picks his main party and sticks with it. I'll probably recruit all of them, just in case I need their path actions, and to complete their stories all the way through, but I'm already sure of my main party.
Great video! I'm starting as Cyrus :) I didn't have an issue starting as Primrose in the original demo though. Even though she's best as a supportive unit, always having a strong ally allured helped throughout the tough battles. Looking forward to part 2! Will you say who your personal pick will be?
Thanks for stopping by! I appreciate the insightful comment. Hope we'll see more of you. I really like Cyrus, too. I want this two part series to be more about helping you guys find your perfect main, but I may put my personal choice in the second video, since it's a Noble character :) (I will say, out of the four rogues, I would pick H'aanit)
Yeah you could just briefly mention it at the end? You could still make the focus of the video about unbiased facts. H'aanit is definitely a cool character! Her and Cyrus definitely seem to have the most variety out of all rogue characters.
Really awesome video bud. I went with the Thief, his read up intrigued me. I am only at the Mansion at the mo beat the boss, so I'll going on that adventure for them coloured crystal ball things lol plus could that older Zelda vibe about the story aswell which is cool.
Yeah, I really like the vibe of his story. The whole game just feels so nostalgic. It's pretty much every bit of every old JRPG I always loved. They nailed it. Therion is definitely hanging out in my party.
Live Phive I’m honestly blown away by the amazingly positive reception on these videos. I’ve never had someone say such nice things to me before, especially multiple people over a span of months. This has been the best span of time in my entire life, the reception to my videos has far surpassed my expectations. Thank you so much, it’s like I’m in a dream come true, and it keeps getting better. I love making these so much, and it really makes my heart happy to know that others enjoy what I’m putting out into the world. The internet is such a cold place sometimes, and it blows me away that so many people can say such nice things. Keeps being you, and know that a small comment like that goes a long way. Sorry for the ramble, but this made me emotional lol.
I personally went with Primrose. You have access to a great array of knifes that can make her whatever you want! I grabbed knives with high elemental attack and she turned into a BEAST. Have her the scholar job- PERFECT SYNERGY. I struggled at first, but realized if you have a stash of berries and Midnight Waltz, you can clear much more than you think. Mild Dancer Skill Spoiler?: (One of the last skills you receive in the Dancer line restores SP at the end of every turn- SO useful. I can spam the most expensive spells without worry, as I go entire final bosses without having to restore SP)
I think I start with Tressa, randomly getting money and Hired Help is absolutly broken^^ Cant wait to finish all paths casually to do speedruns of that game
Thing about Allure and Guide is that the summoned person stays out for a few turns, and basically works as a bonus attack on top of your natural attack. I got Ophilia to Guide a Dancer from Sunshade. She has a multi hit dagger attack and offense buffs that helped me cream my first Chapter 2 boss.
Its a bit weird having a Scholar have a rogue path action but i guess it would be weird to have a weird guy randomly trying to get personal information from you, also i chose Primrose btw
For an Analyze Completionist Run, Cyrus is the safe way to go since all you need to do is face the same enemy up to 5 times and they are cleared up in searching for Weakness. For a Fun Run where you can get cool stuff right away, Therion is a good pick, since if you get him then H’anitt; you can steal the Golden Hammer from the old guy in the Apotho Town.
Started off with Therion yesterday and recently recruited Primrose. Gonna star with recruiting all the Rogue characters first before going on to recruit the noble ones later. My reason for starting off with Therion is just that he's full of angst and an edgelord, it's that he is an edgelord going around begrudgingly aiding and recruiting all these other characters that are fantastic in their own ways.
I recently bought and started playing octopath traveler. I heard that you can have more than one job in the game, but I did not know that there would be enough points to max out like four for one character. I will guess that is only possible at like level 99 or something?
wish i wouldve known who you choose first is ALWAYS in your party (minus origin quests). I chose Therion and i think that was a mistake.. hes really not that great of a character outside his ability to steal some of the best items early on if you kno where to look. Anyways i thought about it and what character would i most likely ALWAYS want in my party and the option seems pretty obvious to me. While starting off with JUST a healer in Primrose could be difficult, with her ability to summon you not really ever alone. Choosing her ensure now i Always have my Healer with me and can rotate everyone else per situation. If anyone else has good strategy for who to start with would love to hear it.
Out of the rouge heroes, I would choose Primrose. She's my favorite so far, and she is the first character I chose in the first demo, also having the ability to always summon a fifth character is nice. The first hero I AM choosing is Olberic he is pretty dang powerful and I think his story is a little under rated. My first two choices are the first two heroes that were reveled and playable in a demo, lol. :P
Primrose has a great story and unique playstyle, and as for Olberic, I'm working on that video right now, so you'll see my sentiments soon. Hint: He's a decent choice.
So whats the deal do i make save files for each character and from there does it even matter which ones i do first over the other story wise aside from lvl differences
I started with Olbreic in last year's demo, and I started off with him in the latest demo that came out weeks ago and I carried the save over to my physical copy!
MarioSonicDKPokeFAN nice! I love playing as Olberic, he’s a great tank. He’s especially powerful when you get to the point where you can learn a second job class.
Me and my brother decided to play together doing a chapter every day and switching off the tv and we wanted to pick different characters for the start and I so badly wanted therion I thought he was gonna go with tressa then he decide hmm ima do therion and now I don’t know what to pick that’s why I’m here
I started with Primrose because of her story. Kind of regret is because she doesn't have a knife flurry ability to get rid of shields faster (at least as of now), and I'm kind of stuck with her in my party now. I'm 12 hours in and don't really feel like restarting just for that. Any ideas on what secondary class to give her so that she can feel more useful?
Right now she's getting 5 sp back from each attack. I'm just not seeing that many enemies that are weak to her. I guess I'll give her something like Cleric to make her a full support, Dark priest type of character. I don't really want to use Ophilia that much outside of her own story arc.
I really hope that the character lockout is only because of the demo and you can freely switch to any once the game is fully released so I start with Therion because he is cool but also very useful with the stealing and unlocking purple chests etc.
This was a very very good video enjoyed every single bit of it thank you very much for this upload I hope your having a great day I’ve subscribed and my notification is turned on dude continue the great work
NorthStation WOW! Thank you for such an outstanding compliment. So glad to have you here with us! Always down for more friends on the channel. Hopefully you watched part two! And hope to see you around the comments in the future :)
Wishful Thinking Your welcome any time I’m not looking for you to subscribe back I just enjoy watching people videos that share the same interests in games I do have a great day buddy and I will be watching loads more of your contents P.S I’m now watching part 2 👊😎👊
I chose Primrose for my full playthrough and while she's not useless, she's certainly the harder one to start off with. Personally, picking some of the other characters first feel like it would have been too easy.
These ones are my personal favourites as starters. Here’s a brief vague summary of what they do. Olberic: “I see I can talk to you... FIGHT ME!” Accidentally level up too high from beating the shit out of everyone in town. Therion: “yoink, yoink, yoink... 80%? Please... easy yoi- FUCK!” Basically get free stuff and sit back and laugh until you realise you are unlucky as fuck and get your first 96% chance failure. Tressa: “Yay money! Yay stuff from randoms! Wait... what am I doing again?” Basically print money but don’t use it. If you do you might start grinding for every item. But once you get a thief you’ll realise how crazy you had become. Cyrus: “I am the sexiest terrorist in all the land... so tell me, how can I blow you up best.” Destroy hordes find weaknesses... pretty simple stuff... then you get silenced and the room goes dark and the screams of the damned start echoing in your ears until you come to the revaluation to use a herb but you just keep scrolling, your beating stick doing very little to the threat and no matter how hard you hit it doesn’t drown out the screaming as you try to fend off the monsters with your weak fragile body. Then you can use magic again and it’s fine.
I started with Ophilia and didn't really have a problem so it's kind of funny how she's like 10 levels above everyone else rn and destroys lots of mobs with her magic lmao
Therion just tanks like all the time, he's so strong. With his sp steal and share there is no reason to even take him out of the party. I level everyone else evenly but he's my main and I let him do whatever he wants.
Therion: I seek to steal three priceless treasures. Primrose: I seek to avenge my father. Olberic: I seek to find the reason to wield my blade. H'aanit: I seek to rescue the man who raised me. Tressa: I just wanted to start a diary...
As far as dmg goes H'aanit is a beast. No other character comes even close to the dmg of her beasts. It doesn't matter if it's magic or if it's physical. She has 4 weapons since the start of the game (her main pet has a lance attack and a sword attack). The only bad thing is that her beasts target random enemies (unless they have an area attack) what makes her exceptionally good destroying the bosses. I still preefer Tressa but she is my second favourite to start because she has a good dmg, good weapon flexibility and the capturing and fighting with pokemon feature.
I'm torn between Tressa and H'aanit. Tressa is super adorable and her abilities are useful for getting items, but H'aanit is the better fighter and seems to be the most fun in combat.
Yami I guess that would boil down to, would you prefer a Noble or a Rogue as your main? Luckily, you can have both in your party, but which one would you rather be identified with? That’s kinda how I’m going about it. I’m picking the one I resonate with most.
After about 8 different playthroughs that ended with being "lock outed" by the 3 hour time limit I decided Tressa would be my lead. I love how she finds gold randomly when entering an area and can get literally thousands of gold from bosses, not to mention discounts. My plan is have her for the money and Therion for the thievery. I figure if I can't steal it I can buy it. Also I can't be the only one hoping one of the future bosses has a really cool item on them in the future chapter.
If I pick one character, will I be able to pick another character after the main story or? I don't really know, or can you only pick one the whole game or maybe you can play a different character when you finish. If you could explain that would be nice. regards
Sorry never saw this comment. You can play all characters stories simultaneously. Continue any story at any time. You don’t have to finish one story to start another
I got primrose as my second party member and holy shit both her and Alyn are too fucking strong next tressa. The rest are ok but not to the extent as these three
I started with Cyrus, and its tough for me to honestly suggesting others to do the same. Story awesome Fights go great but he is way overshadowed by Therion and how useful opening purple chests and stealing people blind from the get go is. Alf is better at getting info and has the best healing options; Tressa collects mad dough where ever you go so you can afford anything (though purchase is inferior to steal in my book)... well you get the idea outside of DPS Scholar has not been enjoyable as a class even if all the story elements are good. Really find it hard to not suggest Therion or Tressa for growth reasons. H'aant for general badassery. I have no desire to start as Olbrek or Prim (revenge stories are meh by default to me).
Hannit is my choice. Since Hannit remind me Pokemon, where your capture the monster used the monster ability. Simillar like Pokemon. That why i choose hannit. A simple like that.
I went in blind and picked Olberic. Now that I've unlocked all eight characters, I'd suggest starting with Haanit, Olberic, Therion or Cyrus. You can't make a "wrong" choice per say, but I'd recommend not starting with Alfyn or Ophelia. Until they get second classes, the roles they play in combat and in town are pretty limited, and they have some of the weaker storylines in my opinion.
Seems such a shame to not mention Therion's lockpicking ability. Having him as your starter means you will always be able to open up the locked purple chests.
I think you're supposed to start with Ophilia since with the Octopath anagram fits with Ophilia Cyrus Tressa Olberic Primrose Alfyn Thereon H'aanit That's the order that they're in the map and the opening scene of everyone walking.
I wish the game would have told me I'm stuck with whoever I start with. I picked Teresa and i just got to hannit 12 hours in and now I want to restart cause Teresa sucks
I am on my first playthrough(I know VERY late to the party) but my decision goes first playthrough is pick, play and main the characters that interest me most(that for me is Cyrus). Then on next completionist game is pick, main and play the best characters to take. 👍
PART TWO IS NOW UP! FIND IT HERE! ua-cam.com/video/fRyxAeUMYco/v-deo.html
Therion is the best character to start with by a mile. Not only can he steal stuff to carry you easily through the game, he is the only one that can open the special purple chests. Cyrus 100%. That study ability and his aoes are incredible.
Therion is my boy.
Edgy weeb
That's who I started out with too. He seems to get a lot of flack though I think being able to steal and his attack power at the start is pretty damn good

I just start with Ophilia because I want to collect all characters in the OCTOPATH order.
Ian Hsieh Neat! I hadn’t thought of going in order, you gotta let me know how that goes for you!
Ian Hsieh , I started with Olberic and spelled out OCTOPATH with Therion as the first T
Revz8bit So did you skip Tressa, get Cyrus first, then skip Primrose and Alfyn and get Therion first? That's a lot of running around.
Ian Hsieh yeah it was alot of running around. Was expecting this game to be grind heavy and this was better than running in circles
Then you could have done Olberic
I started with Therion because you're right he can hold his own once he gets HP steal.
Kyle Hill
Or sp steal, he’s a total tank
It doesnt take 8 minutes to say Therion
Mister Turk Turkle, You’re right! It took 18 minutes, across two whole videos!
I know. The same thing goes through my mind watching alot of videos but content creators got to do what they do
no Cyrus>>>>
You mean H'aanit
Closest to the cleric (best second)
Easy chapter 1
Good stats
Best coverage of any character

I starter as Cyrus, because I like mages and the first choice must always be in the party. My favorite beginning story is Primrose's. She is amazing!
I use all of the rogue characters for my team and i started with H'aanit....

Great video man! Thank you so much to take the time to make it!

I struggled at first, but realized if you have a stash of berries and Midnight Waltz, you can clear much more than you think.

NeverLucky So. Much. Money. It’s ridiculous. Her and Therion as a tag team would destroy, honestly. I’m not even sure it would be fun.
Well... money hired everything.
I'm starting with ophelia her story reminds me of yuna's pilgrimage from ffx
Ooh! Good point. For some reason all I could think about when I played Ophelia is "Let it go! Let it go!" ... Haha
I picked olberic and never regretted it once
H'aanit The pokemon trainer
It’s 1 in the morning and I’m still watching UA-cam. Just 5 days until the game comes out!
So hype. So hype. So hype.
I'm so torn now. My Ys 8 just arrived and I can't stop playing it, but Octopath is coming so soon... which one should I play!!
Ian Hsieh sounds like the only option is to hurry up and beat Ys! You have one week! Go go go go go!
Ian Hsieh 8path
Mechanically Cyrus is the best in battle, of the rouge heros hes probably the best for a main character.
I started with Tressa because... she’s adorable!!!

Grumpyfat thank you! Glad you enjoy!
I recently bought and started playing octopath traveler. I heard that you can have more than one job in the game, but I did not know that there would be enough points to max out like four for one character. I will guess that is only possible at like level 99 or something?
I started with Primrose... and as hard as it was in the beginning, I actually really liked her and never looked back.
I actually found her to be really easy with the old woman from her town allured. Granny is a badass!
Games are too easy nowadays anyway. I have to actively gimp myself to find any sort of challenge nowadays
wish i wouldve known who you choose first is ALWAYS in your party (minus origin quests). Depends on your play style. I suggest Cyrus, Therion, or H'annit
Cyrus would be a fun one to play against Therion.
My first and main play through I picked therion. My second I started with Cyrus followed quickly by therion
I started with Therion cause I admit I have a bit of a bias for characters in his archetype. Best decision I’ve made in a while
I started with Primrose because of her story. Dark skills are pretty useful tbh. add up an SP regen accessory and you'll be able to spam Night Ode with no worries

I hope so too! But it seems silly to lock swapping out your lead party member for the demo? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!
According to some previews from review channels who got a review copy the character lockout is still in the full game unfortunately.
ah too bad :(

When you use up a recruited/allured villager, can you recruit them again? Or can you theoretically run out of summons permanently
They will respawn in town, able to be recruited again.

I'm 20 hours in the game and I already earned more than 40k coins (currency)
its an easy life
I did Hannit Primrose therion then Tressa(when I get the game) Cyrus Ophelia Otabec
Wait we’re not supposed to play all the main characters 😅 I’m doing a blind playthrough for the first time
I love therion so much
Used collect, from Tressa, on Ophelia’s chapter 2 boss, and it gave me 4k
If I pick one character, will I be able to pick another character after the main story or? I don't really know, or can you only pick one the whole game or maybe you can play a different character when you finish. If you could explain that would be nice. regards
Sorry never saw this comment. You can play all characters stories simultaneously. Continue any story at any time. You don’t have to finish one story to start another
Does it actually matter who you start with?
I got primrose as my second party member and holy shit both her and Alyn are too fucking strong next tressa. The rest are ok but not to the extent as these three
I started with Therion
I him randomly cuz he was the last character I saw and I didn't want to Choose
I went Tressa, Olberic, Primrose, Alfyn, Cyrus, Ophilia, H'aanit, finishing with Therion.
Cyrus for the speed runners
I started with Cyrus, and its tough for me to honestly suggesting others to do the same.
Story awesome
Fights go great
but he is way overshadowed by Therion and how useful opening purple chests and stealing people blind from the get go is.
Does it matter what character I pick?
I thought you got them all over time.
I started with Olberic and I always have Cyrus in my party
Yet is only use of lockpicking
I think you're supposed to start with Ophilia since with the Octopath anagram fits with
Ophilia
Cyrus
Tressa
Olberic
Primrose
Alfyn
Thereon
H'aanit
That's the order that they're in the map and the opening scene of everyone walking.
Green _ I'm not gonna get hannait last fuck no
L is before p so in your explanation it should be Olberic
Started with Primrose. Don't regret :3
Spoiler:
Gave her Cyrus class
I wish the game would have told me I'm stuck with whoever I start with. I picked Teresa and i just got to hannit 12 hours in and now I want to restart cause Teresa sucks
I picked Hannit, but her Provoke is pointless. But she is definitely strong in battle.
I started as Primrose because she was pretty and GOD it's tough going. I've finished her chapter 2 already but I'm no good with support characters.
I chose h’aanit😌
I started with Alfyn and got Therion and then H’annit and her boss Is hard as balls
Yeah it’s a bit odd saying Primrose is underpowered. 🤔
I started with Tressa.
Where my damn Primrose mains?!? 🤣😭😭
H’annit is best girl #ChangeMyMind
I like primroses the best
Something about Primrose's story, atmosphere, personality, character abilities, everything just seems to click. I love it.
Difficulty wise: Newer players should start with Olberic. Experienced players Primrose.
I mean I chose before this video
I am on my first playthrough(I know VERY late to the party) but my decision goes first playthrough is pick, play and main the characters that interest me most(that for me is Cyrus).
Then on next completionist game is pick, main and play the best characters to take. 👍
Primrose is so good tho
Spoiler alerts start at 3:00 and on -don't give away storylines and stuff jeeze man.
I like playing sexy chaacters so I picked Tressa
Therion lol
I clicked on your video because I haven't started the game yet (imagine that). A spoiler alert would have been nice dude.

Primrose is the strongest Warmaster by far

Make Me Play Good.
Primrose is untraditional!?
My name is Primrose Montoya! You killed my father! PREPARE TO DIE!
Untraditional?! The most cliche of the bunch!
Cyrus is the worst character in late game
