  • Hi everyone, thanks for watching.
My cousin wanted to use again an old device to backup old VHS or alike.
At the moment of buying it he got to use it with Windows XP.
Now with newer computers and operating systems the device is no longer supported it seems.
So I built an XP computer to test it and also because I don't have a Pentium 4 system, this will be fun!
Thanks to my cousin Alex for the Dazzle and Andrew for the CPU case.
    Hope you enjoy the video.
If you want you can subscribe and leave a like.
    Cheers!

at my job, we use dazzle to capture audio directly from the soundboard to the pc in web conferences using RCA/P10, it still works very well today, in the past we used it with the polycom hdx 9000

2:12 - i875 was a higher-end variant of i865, released around the same time. One significant difference was PAT memory mode, but some i865 motherboards also allow to run this mode, so it doesn't really matter.
funfact: despite higher number, i875 is older than 865 by one month :)

Old Net/Sys Admin here..... Aww Man.... I miss those Chieftec cases. They are expensive on eBay. NewEgg had those full-towers on sale for $25 a pop back in the day. I had bought 4. I built a new personal system at that time. When I was ready to update my system, I gave away my old one "AS-IS" and built a new one using a new case. That repeated until I used the last of those Chieftec's. That was 2014.

This is one of the reasons why I keep my Old machines around. I LOVE using Porsche design - Pinnacles s-VHS capture devices. I was able to capture video at the HIGHEST bit rate & color space possible to squeeze every last minutia of analog data from the tapes I was capturing
I also still have a almost new Firewire Dazzle device I have still to use, but will in the future.
If you have old Tapes this is the ticket, then take it into a modern machine to upscale all the footage . (Its getting better every year)
Now the next best thing? There are some CCTV systems that let you capture analog video even at S-VHS resolutions.
But they are far from ideal for color compared to these older capture cards.
The only thing I really kick myself buying was OTA capture card that worked with windows Media Center.
Never did I get around to using it. Would have been fun.

Never had a custom back in those days, but I did have this 1999 business style Dell Dimension with a 1000Mhz Pentium 3 and 2x256k SD Ram, it was an absolute beast for the time period and I added an AGP GPU- GeForce 3 Ti 500 and a Ethernet card in it later on and I used to play Everquest on it all the way up to 2004 and I can't remember something died on it, I think it was the HDD. in 2004 I had an HP with a Pentium 4 NT 3.0 GHz, but it wasn't till 2007 and windows 7 that I actually built a custom computer myself. My current build in 2024 is a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, MSI MAG X670E Tomahawk 32GB DDR5 6400 and an RTX 4080, so yes I'm still building them folks, but my my how times have changed!

Thought this was an Alienware at first, as their "Cyborg Green" was very popular back then.

Nice, been a while since i saw those, and the DC10/30 and DV's. Pretty common back when analogue video was still a thing. As for XP boxes, I'd keep an eye out for old Core i3/i5 2nd/3rd gen "office machines" from HP and Fujitsu in case you find them at "bargain prices", as they make amazing XP (and W7) machines, with lots of "free goodies" like DDR3, SATA and IGP in case you don't have any gfx card around..

    • @ErazerPT
      @ErazerPT 4 місяці тому +1

@@restoredwards Biggest difference should be on the CPU use and SATA (SSD?). If that Dazzle is the "uncompressed" variety it will be putting a LOT of pressure on both storage throughput and CPU for encoding. As for apps, even though I've used lots as part of my then job, funny enough i still find myself going back to VirtualDub for capture and rough cutting if possible as it's pretty reliable, very few headaches over 20 years :D

ua-cam.com/video/CR3iyWV4fPE/v-deo.html there's modern drivers for that DVC100, i have the red one and i use mine with OBS and Windows 10, and some of my latest vids are me showing it off. i do hand it off to you, as i do have a USB capture card that cant work past Win7 32 bit, so i have it running with a Win7 laptop (dual core, its an Adaptec Gamebridge, it also wont work in Linux). But yeah these DVC100's are able to work with Win10 and proper drivers. you will get better results with better hardware. Mine works like a dream and even upscales nicely.
PS with OBS, you will need to get into the capture card settings and enable the audio in the DVC100 settings on that lil bar below the preview display, if you dont do it you wont get any sound.

Thanks for your comment. I watched the video and will try it since it's not shown working. Also, it looks there are some extra steps. The idea of having the CD with the drivers is to use them, the install and software needs to be practical. I will look into it, thank you.
