    Love his quote. "You've lost a brother and he's lost a father. Two people hating each other without even knowing each other. Does that make sense to you?" It makes 0 sense. This is Michael Landon at his best. Never afraid to address this world's very ugly problems and propose solutions to those problems.

      Don't forget that some of us can. I am white and I miss my old neighbor since I had to move away. I am 74, she's 84 and black. We would visit each other and spend over an hour in conversation. We could disagree about some things, but never argued. I am glad there are many others who think the same. Too bad not all of us do as well.

      Probably because of the "racist's" underlying circumstances.
      They may be unfairly disadvantaged, and be suffering because of being unable to address their own life issues, and as such, manifest itself as this particular type of outlet as a ""coping"" mechanism.
      Just because it's prevalent - and used in such a way - doesn't imply a willingness to resort to it.
      It's just what comes -naturally- demonically, like how certain people might be inclined to drink, or consume other types of illicit substances.
      It's not a _wilful_ behaviour, it's a _cursed_ one (cūr-SID, not cūrsd).
      The solution to racism, is to address every racist's underlying personal situations - unimpeded - which in turn, would subdue any inclination to fall back on such a behaviour.
      Then, nothing other than superficial observations would be noted by those who once committed racist acts.

    The great thing about Highway to Heaven was how the subjects and topics weren't dated or just "current" like most tv shows do today with their dated topics. This show dealt with HUMAN issues not just popular hot button political issues of the time. The subjects on this show are timeless from racism and homelessness to elderly abuse, loneliness, loss of faith etc. Just all the stuff that we go through as human beings. There was no agenda to get ratings or awards, just honesty about the human condition and how through God and ourselves we can hope to overcome them someday.

      @Ty2k83 I doubt the events of this episode would have had a serious impact on the neighbourhood, aside from ridding it of one dirty cop. I would have liked an update on Kevin and Julius--especially Kevin, who had a whole lifetime's worth of poison to clear out of his mind. Julius was a good kid, maybe he would help out there.

    • @nolanboles8492
      @nolanboles8492 4 роки тому +1

      @Ty2k83 They probably wanted to emphasize the fact that Julius' emotional ordeal was the toughest, since he had literally lost his brother, murdered by Kevin's father. Which, of course, is why any rapport they build would be a long time coming. The writer did good job making this clear in the short time available.

    It’s chilling how relevant this still is around 35 years later. The only difference is that with bystanders capturing footage on smartphones and the internet and social media enabling them sharing their videos with the world we all get to know about some of it. But not enough of us care enough to make it a priority for politicians so little actually changes.
    The only difference is that we can’t claim ignorance as an excuse but until we care enough “knowledge is power” means nothing...

    Pretty sad many here miss the point to suit their own views. As another person commented, it was to point out racism is bad whether you're black OR white. The results are never good. As for those who thought the ending was bad, I feel sorry for you. God forbid showing two kids of different races, part of the same tragedy, becoming friends.

    Today, many well-meaning people believe that “loving everyone” will end racism, but given the systemic nature of racism, only systemic change can have a real impact. Martin Luther King Jr. put it well when he said, “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”

    Mark Gordon's partner was not as he remembered and he went very bad. The actor who played Frank went on to Coach as Howard Burleigh the next year. Kenneth Kimmins was a great actor on this episode and he was great at being the bad cop. Sad that both actors who played Mark and Jonathan both died at age 54 of cancer due to smoking. This is the last pairing of Michael Landon and Victor French and this is the only series that took place in modern days of the 80s and the last two shows took place in the 1800s.
