Thank you for all of the wonderful recommendations. We have gone to one of the cathedrals, and we did share that last year on our channel. We love Norwich and are planning a return trip! 🤍 Jess x
Thanks! We definitely love Norwich. This was our 2nd visit, and definitely not our last! There is so much we have yet to see in Norwich. Thank you for sharing your time with us. 🤍 Jess x
I moved to Norwich from a little village near kings Lynn about 10 years ago. I've lived and worked all over the UK but Norwich is my home now. My daughter loves it and I can't imagine living anywhere else now!
As a resident of Norfolk living 15 minutes from Norwich, I am very pleased you enjoy exploring the city. A fine city! Derham Road may not be the best way in but, The Fat Cat pub just off Dereham Rd has an eye watering array of fine ales and Mr Mangel on Dereham Road is a top Turkish restaurant!
The next time you go to Norwich check out the “Adam & Eve” pub it’s very close to the Cathedral there has been a pub on the site since 1249 that’s 775 years the current building is quite modern though only dating back to the 1600’s
What a coincidence! My grandson was granted a mortgage today to buy his first home: a flat in the middle of Norwich. Thank you for reminding me of all my old haunts although it is a shame that "The Sir Garnet Wolseley" has shortened its name and you would not find Prince of Wales road "beautiful" on a Friday or Saturday night! Keep filming. Patrick
Patrick, how lovely that wonderful. Please tell him we said congratulations. We believe in fate and are so thankful to have you long with us for all of our adventures dear friend! We love just hoping in the car and just go and sharing our joy with you. 🤍 Jess & Chris x

Aw, I went to uni in Norwich from 1993-1997. I made a solo trip back last year, to horrify myself that 30 years had somehow past since and see the place again. ☺️
The best way to see Norwich is on foot, and take your time. The Great Hospital behind the cathedral is worth a visit. Not far from there you'll find Kett Heights which provides a panoramic view of the city. The village of Hethel is the home of Lotus cars. It was also a USAAF base and there is a monument to the fallen airmen in the village churchyard. It serves as a reminder that for far too many young men each flight could have well been their last. An American who set up a business in Norwich provided the best description of the city: "Quaint but busy".
We agree! We loved walking around exploring. Yet we didn't see it all and will return. We love Norwich! Thank you so much for the lovely information. We truly appreciate your time sharing with us. 🤍 Jess x
Thanks for liking my home town! As a retired archaeologist I wish I could share with you the prehistoric,Anglo Saxon and later Medieval wonders we unearthed. Norwich was the 2 nd city in England, with massive exports of wool and grain to the Continent.. But by say 1776(!), Bristol and Liverpool had eclipsed us as cotton, sugar and slaves replaced the wool trade as the backbone of the economy. Then this accumulated capital kick-started the Industrial Revolution in Yorkshire and Lancashire, where water power and later, coal, ran the cotton mills. I live in the surrounding area of Norwich and you took my bus route. It’s always interesting to hear someone else’s take on where I live, it gives a fresh feeling. I’ve just got used to it but it is beautiful and good to be reminded of that. Glad you enjoyed this fine city 😊
That is awesome that we were able to go down the same bus route. We did have a great time and it is truly a great city. Glad you enjoyed our take on it. Cheers, Chris
In the early 90s I was working on the door of a very rough pub at weekends, it was like roadhouse. I had told my wife how bad it was and how I was late home sometimes because I had to give a witness statement. Then one day she was in the town shopping with her mum and decided to have lunch, they went into said pub and had scampi and chips. It was only as they left they realised that the lovely restaurant full of blue haired old ladies was the same pub that I told them only the very brave or very stupid would venture into, my cause was also somewhat hindered by the gorgeous barmaid that served them! I tried to mount a defence saying that 2.00pm on a Wednesday is a lot different to 10.00pm on a Saturday night she wasn't having it!
Oh, thank you. You all bring us so much joy sharing our drives and adventures with you all. I have to say that the support we get from everyone is the best hands down! 🤍 Jess x
I think you all did a great job of capturing so much. And I bet there was enough there to fill a couple of visits. Good to see Chris getting some stout sampling done, too 😉.
I l ive in Norwich now, for 6 years, I was at university here nearly 30 years ago. I love how you didn't clip the car journey, great driving BTW, especially a stick shift for a n American! You did get to see a lot of the nicest bits of the City Centre. Love the vlog. J R.
We love Norwich and look forward to our next visit. There is so much to see and enjoy in that beautiful city. We are so thankful you enjoyed the video. 🤍 Jess x
I live in a small village about 15 or so miles east of Norwich and I go there all the time. It's such an eclectic city that's well known for its friendly atmosphere. The Castle (when it's open), Cathedrals (it has 2) and the Market (with its wide range of food stalls) are some of the city's standout features. Fun fact: from the medieval period up until the 18th century, Norwich was the 2nd largest city in England
We love Norwich! We agree it has a lovely atmosphere and kind people. Wish we could have gone inside the castle, but understand it's under construction. Thank you for coming along with us for this adventure. 🤍 Jess x
I went to Norwick as a kid we went to the Norfolk broads on holiday we hired a boat a week loved it! before you go home to America try and check out the peak district its in Derbyshire in the midlands of England its beautiful! love your vlogs love your sense of adventure and enthusiasm for exploring new places to visit !!
I love the way Americans appreciate all the history and architecture of the UK, as a Brit of 67 years it's something I've always been surrounded by, so maybe I haven't appreciated it as much as I should, we need you Americans to remind us just how lucky we are. 😊
Oh, friend we truly love sharing in this beauty that is all around us here in the UK. We're so lucky to call this home away from home for sure. 🤍 Jess x
Norwich is not a place I been to for many years so thanks for the tour. It’s quite possible you have seen more of the UK in your short time here than I have in the last 20 years. That said we are on the doorstep of Sherwood Forest 🌳 I can’t remember the last time we went to the Major Oak!
Where are you, Ray? I was brought up in Melton Mowbray, just a bit south in Leicestershire, and remember going to The Major Oak a few times as a kid. And often up to Clumber Park. When I moved to Leeds in 1977, I used to ride back down to Melton and Leicester on my small motorbike. On L plates, so I could not use the Motorway. I used to ride up and down the 614 on the journey, and so pass within about a mile and a half of The Major Oak, past Ollerton. Jess and Chris's video of their trip to Oakham a few weeks ago was SO interesting for me. I used to cycle there regularly as a kid - it was only about half an hour if pedalling hard!
North Nottinghamshire near Worksop, the Major Oak near Edwinstow. The 614 is our regular route to West Bridgford, taking the Leicester turn off. They really should visit Robin Hood Tree!!!
Ray, I am not sure how much we have seen so far, however, we are trying to make the most of it while we are here. There has been too many times we look back on places we have been and didn't get out as much as we wanted. We hope to keep that as we keep going forward. Thanks for the comment and continued support. Cheers, Chris and family.
you doing really well, honestly ! If you lived in Nottinghamshire I think there is a by law all men have to practice archery every Sunday. Not sure if it was all England l. Quit Arrowing really. So something Chris could look forward too. A modern day Errol Flynn. 😊
My home city 😊 Within its city walls, Norwich once had 52 churches (one for every week of the year) & 365 pubs (one for every day of the year) ... we got our priorities right! 😂
Norwich, my home city. The cathedral and cathedral close is lovely. Norwich, like a lot of cities, is struggling to fill vacant shops. There are lots of historical things to see. Strangers Hall and the Bridewll Museum are great for understanding the cities history.
It's always worth trying the local ales, beers when visiting a new place. The variety we have in the UK makes it fun, as you step into a pub in a new town/county/part of the country(ies) you haven't visited before and sample the brews they have behind the bar. Part of creating the memory and a reason to return. 🍻😀
We love trying and experiencing as much as we can here. We truly loved the real ale! It was definitely our favorite so far we've tried. I'm not a big beer drinker, but wow! We loved our walk and time in Norwich. We will definitely be back. 🤍 Jess x
I live in Norwich and work in the second oldest pub in the city centre. I agree Mr Winters mild is great!! If you come back to the city please come to the coach and horses, by the forum.
Most definitely, we will be back! We love Norwich, and we will check out The Coach & Horses on our next trip. Thank you so much for the recommendation. 🤍 Jess x
I used to drink in the coach amd horses over 30 years ago. It was my favourite. Will have to revisit the next time i come to Norwich (I moved away from Norfolk about 25 years ago, but still class it as home!
Norwich, my nearest City to my home. I don't know how you managed to find such a traffic free day. As you drove along the Dereham Road, as you were mentioning the Cyclists wearing bring clothes, I lived the next road over (Earlham Road) to the right. You drove past the first place I worked at Wilco Motor Spares. The Bowling House, used to be a Cinema, then became a Bingo Hall, then a 10pin Bowling hall/ Venue. Norwich is a lovely city. The "Prince Of Wales Road" the road where you turned left where the right hand lane is "Buses only" is known locally and "Little Beirut", full of night clubs, bars, violence, Police, etc etc, lots of people come to Norwich for a significant night out, Hen Party, Stag Party, Birthday, etc. You can't do Norwich in a day. Over 1000 years of history. The Castle will be lovely when fully open, not been back yet to see what they've done to the place. The Pubs you visited, I've been in them all (More than once) were just a sample. Many of the other local will remember, the long gone ones Fruiters Arms, Woolpack, LaRoeun.
How lovely thank you so very much for taking the time to watch and share with us! We really love Norwich and can't wait to go and explore even more. 🤍 Jess x
I love Norwich, I’ve been going there for shopping trips my whole life, and worked there for 10 years many years ago. Sadly a lot of shops have closed since covid, but that seems to be the same in many towns. The castle has been being renovated for 3 or 4 years now, you’ll have to go back when it’s finished, when ever that is. Lovely video again Jess.
Same friend we love Norwich! It's sad to see all businesses that close due to Covid. Hopefully our villages, towns and cities will bounce back one day. It may take a little while but I have faith. Friend it was so said not to be able to explore the castle but we understand. We most definitely will be back and hopefully it will be up an running soon. We are so thankful for your support love! 🤍 Jess x
Thanks for taking us along, as I have not visited Norwich. Just a note that Chris missed some freely available bonus points by not mowing down the bicycyclist with a yellow backpack! More seriously for anyone looking to drive on British roads, although Chris performed an excellent and perfectly safe overtaking manoeuvre on the cyclist, look at how the cyclist passed him again shortly after. If the cyclist is getting a move on, it is rarely worth the bother of overtaking them, as gettiing around on a bike in 20mph city roads is faster than in a car. So novices to British roads concerned about how they would manage with cyclists here, the answer is that unless you happen to feel like it, you rarely have to bother, just follow the bike! Of course some are dawdlers, but then they are easy to overtake anyway.
We are glad you were able to come along with us on our visit here. I am getting used to the cyclist for sure. It is one of those things that you mentioned about passing. It gets even more interesting when it is in the city. Thanks for the comment. Cheers, Chris
@@DaydreamersBarn You are an excellent and very safe driver anyway, Chris, so my comment was really for any Americans who thought 'Ye Gods!' when they saw driving on our roads - it is not quite as bad as it looks. Just a note on the bus lane which jumped out in front of you. I would have done the same as you, and taken rapid evasive action when in an unfamiliar area. However, Google 'probably' knew what it was doing, if you were outside the rush hour, although I would not have counted on it. That is because bus lanes have all sorts of variants, to make life more interesting. So that many are bus only just for the rush hour, say 8-10 and 4-6 during the week, and not at all on the weekends. And some are bus lanes only for cars with just the driver, and not for cars with a passenger. Only worth bothering with if you check out roads local to you, where there should be signs showing the restrictions. Too complicated to worry about when you are away from your local area, unless you happen to spot a sign, so as you did, take evasive action!
Starting on the A47 (Dereham Rd) passing the Woodlands on your right hand side, that used to be stomping ground when i was a kid. That patch of ground on the right hand side at 1:21 used to be the Earl of Leicester pub, it got pulled down years ago, but did not have permission. 2:36, the row of shops on the right used to be Petes Fruit and Veg, The Upper Crust Bakery and The Ideal Plaice Chippy. 6:47 going over Magdalen Street. 8:08 for the people who know....... Ritzys and Central Park or Ikon and 5th Avenue? and another 9:42 ABC or Cannon on your left? i could go on.....
Wow, friend! Love reading and looking at the video thinking about how much things change over the years. Thank you so much for sharing with us. 🤍 Jess x
It's my closest city,a very green city (lots of trees) and lots of historic interest. It's worth another visit to explore,I still find new old places every time I visit and have been doing so for over 4 decades. 🙂
I live very close to the city centre, literally a 3-5 minute walk to anglia square. And I welcome you. We need a lot more people like you. I would say something about our political situation as well, but not sure how you'd respond to it. So I'll leave it at that.
This now popped up in my feed I live & work in Norwich & my American friends could be visiting next year. Only trouble with Norwich is we have had to many changes trying to make areas more for bikes so many cars all go same roads. Prince of Wales Rd which you said is beautiful 🤣 go down there Friday & Saturday nights 😁😁
Or is that the only problem with Norwich is that some drivers forget that with growing car use and population increases in a medieval city, you can’t keep all road users, cyclists and pedestrians safe unless changes get made. When I was little (over 50 years ago), many of the roads you enjoyed safely walking down were open to through traffic. If still open, this would totally change everyone’s experience of this beautiful place in a very negative way.
Jess, thank you for visiting my home town. It's lovely, isn't it? I haven't lived there for some years, but I still consider it home. My sister used to keep a delicatessen in Elm Hill. Happy days. ❤️
@DaydreamersBarn Jess. Did you know that after the war, the U.S. airforce guys that had been stationed around Norwich during the war, collected and donated a library to the people of Norwich? Then, in the nineties, sadly, it burned down. So there was more money raised and a new one was built, which is still there. It's in the modern Forum building, next to St Peter Mancroft Church.
@andrewjones1649 No, I did not know that that is so wonderful! Thank you for sharing as always, my friend. Love learn more about history and kindness. 🤍 Jess x
Chris now drives as 'Sharp as a button' on these chaotic British road systems. He's going to miss these challenges when he gets back to the enormous American roads.Jess's calm dulcet voice on the commentating would be perfect on the sat nav.😊
We were in the U.K. one time and I came of the motorway a little early,so I went down to the roundabout and my navigation system said take the 8th exit.Terror came over me but I did manage to.
It is definitely a little scary, but the more you encounter, the easier they become. We would much rather come to a roundabout than a stop sign or light. We are so glad you got through the large roundabout they're scary the first time! 🤍 Jess x
I live in Norwich (born and bred Costessey) and I have not seen any Americans in Norwich on YT before. Norwich also happens to be the 5th oldest city/town in England.
The fact the castle was closed, maybe did you a favour, you got to see SO MUCH MORE of the city than I did, as I spent too much time in the castle (I was on a one day coach trip). Also. If you get chance, visit York, but not for one day, book at least an overnight stay, better two or three and explore the place. If I was told I could only visit one more town in the UK, I'd have to go back to York!
As an Englishman, I have admit that you've been to far more places in the UK than I have. Strangely, as I've done quite a bit of business travelling I've probably been to more places outside the UK. I am both envious and a wee bit ashamed. We need to get out more 😊😊😊
Moved to Norfolk back in 1985 when I was posted to RAF Neatishead, now the home of the RAF Radar Museum. I've been living in Norfolk ever since, so I know Norwich very well. This was a nice little tour of the city. I do have one criticism though. It would be much nicer if when you pan the camera around you did it a bit slower, and smoother. The speed you used here was enough to make me feel slightly nauseous. You know like when you turn your head a little too quick.
Interesting to watch you go the long way around lol. Time for a sat nave upgrade Chris? And you drove straight past my granddaughters home….you could have stopped off for a cuppa 😊
Hi, I love the channel, like you, I love to look around the British town's and cities. Before you leave, I'm not sure if you've been there. You must go to the American cemetery near Madingley Cambridgeshire. With respect to you and your countries men and women King regards Alan
Friend, I'm so happy you enjoyed our channel! Just being in this beautiful country is such a blessing. We haven't been but have a plan to go soon. We really appreciate the time you shared with us. 🤍 Jess x
During the Second World War, there were several airfields, mainly for bombers, in Norfolk and several thousands of young American men gave service to the freedom of the world there. On their days off, Norwich was a favourite place for the American servicemen to relax and enjoy a beer or two. The Bell Hotel, beside the castle was a popular spot for the Americans. Two famous American actors were stationed in Norfolk and Norwich: Walter Matheau and James Stewart
Great video. I have lived in Norwich for the past 50 years and you drove 200 metres from my house. I worked for Her Majesty's Stationery Office which had its head office on Norwich which you also passed when driving. How big is the engine of your car? I could hear the gears changing!
How lovely we definitely love Norwich and exploring. Thank you for sharing about the places we passed. Also, we are driving a Fiat Doblo. We appreciate your time watching and commenting. 🤍 Jess x
I knew a certain someone when in the army ,who lived in Norwich, I went there on leave ,I think in 63 we, that is my significant other and myself ,spent a lot of our time at the Sampson & Hercules dance hall ,Idon't know whether it is still there chances are no, It had a revolving stage I seem to remember and it used to get packed ,I think it was among the largest in the country , great times !
@@DaydreamersBarnSamson and Hercules was a restaurant last time I checked, but you can still see their white statues holding up the roof of a porch in Tombland, just opposite the Cathedral
I'd recommend checking it out. It's better than most UK cities although, unfortunately, it's following the same trajectory as most cities in the country now.
Norwich is a great city! its not on the way to anywhere and out on a limb so people only tend to come here who want to. Cool fact we have the more churches of any city in the UK..
It's one of my favorite places so beautiful and lovely water ways. We will always recommend it to our friends to check it out. We appreciate your time with us today. 🤍 Jess x
I live North East of Norwich, used to work there. If I go into the centre, I go by bus. Only drive to out of centre places. Barclays bank originated from Norwich, was set up by the Gurney's. The famous "red coats" of the military were from Norwich. The wool was dyed red, from Madder. It required only one dye to get the colour and was not expensive. Norwich was a wool centre back in the day. A fine Historic City. Shame about the Castle still being closed.
Lovely, that is so incredibly cool! Love and recommendation traveling by bus or train. It's such a beautiful city with rich history like most places here in the UK and we love it! Thank you for sharing some lovely history with us, friend. 🤍 Jess x
That is a lovely old city, improved by pedestrianisation. Where is this Bummer Castle or did you leave out an apostrophe? It made a nice change to hear Chris panic for a moment when he wasn't sure what way to go. Been there, done that.
Notice how dead the city is now thanks to the city councils obsession with cycle lanes and hatred of cars. On a average Saturday you would get thousands and thousands people in the city now at Christmas you gat less people tham an average Saturday 20 years ago.
Oh, bummer castle is the bast kept secret. LoL It's nice to know he's not a super human, but I think Chris is super human. We definitely love Norwich! 🤍 Jess x
The houses yo saw with the overhung 1st floor is where the word sidewalk comes from, back in the day the pee pots in the bedroom were thrown out of the first floor window into the gutter in the road and to stay clean people would walk under the overhang 1st story, walking on the side of the road which at the time had no pedestrian walkway or paved walking area/pavement it was all just road.
Great video 👍 The pair of you are becoming British Driver's as you both like to get out of the fast lane and just drive, Google maps isn't very good at putting you in the correct lane getting lost is part of the fun😊
We're so thankful you enjoyed the adventure today. We love getting lost because it take us to some wonderful places here. We definitely love the experience just not the tickets if we're in a Bus Lane. LoL 🤍 Jess x

Never been to Norwich, even though I was brought up less than a hundred miles away. just so this was really interesting - again! I did not realise it was a bit like a York - and defo needs to go on the "must see" list. SO much better seeing places "normally" and in more depth, rather than whistle-stop money-shot highlights! You two really do your great country proud. The cathedral spire (you saw it on the way in) is the symbol of Aviva, one of our main insurance companies. It was a merger between various earlier insurers, one of which was Norwich Union based in Norwich - and whose symbol was the cathedral. Many thanks again, both of you. Another really enjoyable exploring video.
Adrian, We try to make sure we see and understand the real England and UK. Yes, we do like to see the tourist areas, but we like to see the ones that are not talked about as much. However, they really show how the country is and we have truly enjoyed it. If you have the chance, we would recommend it as there are many different things to do here. Thanks again for your comment and continued support. Cheers, Chris and family
Norwich city is dead these days, should have seen it 30 years is was hustle and bustle and full of life and characters. Thanks to the city Council and their obsession with cycle lanes and their hatred of cars they have killed off the city and shops and businesses have closed down or moved.
You have stumbled upon the greatest city on planet Earth! Glad you enjoyed the fine city :)

I l ive in Norwich now, for 6 years, I was at university here nearly 30 years ago. I love how you didn't clip the car journey, great driving BTW, especially a stick shift for a n American! You did get to see a lot of the nicest bits of the City Centre. Love the vlog. J R.

Lovely, thanks friend! 🤍 Jess x
Lovely vlog, thanks for sharing. I’ve never actually been to Norwich so it was a pleasure walking around with you ❤
Oh, thank you, love. I'm so glad you enjoyed spending time with us and all the days you chose to watch our videos.
🤍 Jess x
Interesting to see Norwich through other eyes 👍
Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers, Chris
I like your city walks, as an addition to the driving. Keep it up.
Oh, thank you, love! We definitely will. 🤍 Jess x

How lovely. I'm sure it was so much fun and full of nice memories! Thanks for sharing with us. Thanks for all the love and support! 🤍Jess x
Ray,
I am not sure how much we have seen so far, however, we are trying to make the most of it while we are here.
Born in Yarmouth, about 20 miles from Norwich. Love the city and support the team and loved clubbing in Tombland.
Lovely! Thank you for sharing your time with us. 🤍 Jess x
My home city 😊
Within its city walls, Norwich once had 52 churches (one for every week of the year) & 365 pubs (one for every day of the year) ... we got our priorities right! 😂
Just love Norwich! Thank you for sharing, friend. 🤍 Jess x
Norwich, my home city. The cathedral and cathedral close is lovely.
Norwich, like a lot of cities, is struggling to fill vacant shops. There are lots of historical things to see.
Strangers Hall and the Bridewll Museum are great for understanding the cities history.
It was a great visit. Cheers, Chris

🤍 Jess x
You drove past my house, wasn't expecting that!
Haha, even cooler!

Thank you very much! We loved exploring Norwich. 🤍 Jess x

We hope your friends have a lovely time. I'm sure they will love it here like we do. Thank you for sharing your time with us! 🤍 Jess x
Happy days. ❤️

Elm Hill is so beautiful. 🤍 Jess x

🤍 Jess x

Definitely, we want to check out York for sure. We were very bummed about the castle but happy that we got to get out and explore even more. 🤍 Jess x
Thanks for the tour ,my home city , if yourin Norfolk again I would recommend Cromer on the coast 👍

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. We loved touring Norwich, and we can't wait to return and check out even more. 🤍 Jess x
Interesting to watch you go the long way around lol. Time for a sat nave upgrade Chris? And you drove straight past my granddaughters home….you could have stopped off for a cuppa 😊

Thank you for sharing that history with us, friend. 🤍 Jess x

It's one of my favorite places so beautiful and lovely water ways. We will always recommend it to our friends to check it out. We appreciate your time with us today. 🤍 Jess x
Don’t forget 2 cathedrals
A church for every Sunday and a pub for every day. Or used to be.
🤍 Jess x
No, it originated on Lombard street London in 1690.
LoL
