I cried when he broke his ankle and when he was put down. Barbaro was one in a million colt who gave all to everyone and gave information on laminitis to help other horses. He never faught during any of his treatments, he knew he was trying to be helped. He still is a Champion!!!!
It's very strange but there's many YT videos titled as "the best 50 racing horses in America" and none of those have been Barbaro. This horse made history, I believe from the bottom of my heart if tragedy wouldn't strike him that day, Barbaro was going to be the triple crown racing horse in that year. Beautiful thoroughbred, our hearts shattered in a million pieces when Barbaro finally couldn't fight any longer 💔💔 Barbaro was a champion in all the ways.
after secretariat barbaro was my favorite horse,he had so much potential to win that triple crown ,for me in his short life one of the best ever,R.I.P Barbaro!!!!! as long there is history Barbaro live!!!
Totally Awesome Vid! Fantastic Tribute to Barbaro! I think Barbaro's 3 full brothers have the breeding and bloodlines to DOMINATE!! Lentenor will Dominate Kentucky Derby 136!
I love him so much R.I.P rest in peace boy who was a great racehorse you did not deserve it u ran ur heart out i llve u barbaro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From ur biggest fan..

Barbaro- the only time I fell in love with a horse, and I have cried an ocean. I will NEVER forget him.
The way he just cruised in the Kentucky Derby I mean he wasn't even out of third gear. he had so much left in the tank. he absolutely destroyed that strong field that year. what could have been? he would have been one of the greats. his move at the quarter pool at the top of the lane was insane. it's like the other horses were standing still only Secretariat that I ever saw a horse do that to the field. made them look like they were standing still...what a shame
I'm surprised they even tried to get him back to health. With a broken leg his racing career was instantly over and most horses are put down immediately if that happens (even horses that're not active in competitive sports), because broken legs don't heal well in horses. Their legs have so much weight to carry and you can't just have them lay down for 2 months to let it heal, so it takes YEARS to heal. Also, additional problems may pop up and a broken leg + lamititis (another reason many horses are put to sleep for, Secretariat for example) is basically a death sentence. Once again, I'm very surprised they tried to nurse him back to health as much as they did. His treatment was worth a fortune, it seems like these owners are the rare kind that actually cares for their horses, because at that point there's no chance of going back onto the race track and therefore no chance of winning money. In an industry that kills horses daily at the sidelines of racetracks and sends thousands of horses to slaugtherhouses in Mexico and Canada, the treatment and love Barbaro received is very very rare.
+kennikitty Maybe you aren't aware of how valuable a champion TB stallion is at stud. Such stallions partly sire 200-300 foals per year and for up to 20 years with breeding fees of hundreds of thousands of dollars each foal. In fact, champ studs are worth many millions more than they could ever earn in races. That's why successful champions retire at 4-5, to eliminate the risk of fatal injuries. So the horse - once healed - would have earned the owners a lot of money off track. But Barbaro's owners indeed seemed to have loved the horse. The stallion was insured for 25Mill$ in case of death or if disease would prevent him from breeding. The owners actually lost money not having him euthanised right away and still tried to save him. That's what I find astonishing and wish there were more breeders like this.
Seleuce i agree with more or less everything you said about Barbaro & of course he was insured for a fair amount of money $25m i believe which if he was put to sleep the owners collect but as you said the owners were very rare by trying to nurse him back so giving up the insurance money. Sorry if upset at this BUT did the owners actually wave the $25m insurance because they really loved him more than his fans or because they knew "OK he'll NEVER run again" but lets get his leg fixed so he can breed( Champions costs to cover in U.S.A ?) but in England Frankel(Highest rated horse ever) commanded £125,000 per horse(Nearly £1m every 7 horses) & the cover 250 per year over poss 20yr SO Barbaro if making it would have made the $25m insurance look like spare change which makes me think the owners had to try given he was a special horse loved by alot of people. Im not saying the owners did'nt love the horse but sometimes the cotton wool gets pulled over peoples eyes unfortunately. R.I.P Barbaro SADLY MISSED😢
Seleuce P.S The say Frankel was the greatest of them all BUT ive been involved with horses since the age of 4yr old & i dont care about arguments & counter arguments but Man 'O War has to be up there but the greatest for me SECRETARIAT & the 73 Belmont WOW my jaw hit the floor when i saw that race & Ron turning round for a peak just coming into the straight im sure his jaw must've hit the dirt too. AMAZING HORSE!
kennikitty .... He was a Colt (still had his working testicals) they were trying to save him just for a future stud stallion as he was incredibly popular when he won the Kentucky Derby. And his excellent bloodlines and fantastic nature would have made him very popular with breeders and the girl horses (mare's). RIP .... Barbaro..... Much loved and forever missed !! Even here in the UK you are still very much loved!! Race across the heavens and know we still love you. Chriss from 🇬🇧
They have not named him yet. It might end up being named Margano. The owners, the Jacksons, have a painting of 6 foxhounds and thats where they got Barbaro's name. The 6 foxhounds names are: Barbaro, Nicanor, Lentenor, Margano, Sereno, Calypso.
This video is soooo insprirational(sp) you did a really good job. I am a horse rider myself(USEF rider(couldnt think of another word for it)) but i think racing is CRUEL>> way too many horse injuries and broken hearts
Ah i have his breyer model..makes me sad just to look at it...i acctually thought he was gonna make it and i was checking his progress like everyday then he had to be put down and i cryed like so hard
Ok, this is not ment to be said in a rude way at all.. but it was not his LEFT leg that be broke... it was his RIGHT back leg. lol Look carefully at the picture in which he is holding his leg up in.
barabaro shattered a bone in his ankle, then got laminitis on his other feet because of the extra weight he had to put on them. then eventually when everyone was thinking he was gonna be better, he developed abcesses on his front feet. he was in so much pain it was unfair to make him suffer
oops Barbaro sustained fractures to the cannon bone above the ankle, sesamoid bone behind the ankle and long pastern bone below the ankle. The fetlock joint/the ankle was dislocated. the pastern bone was shattered in 20-plus pieces then laminitis in the right rear hoof n an abcess in the back left hoof as well
that horse was not only gorgeous and beautiful he was huge I mean the chest alone yet so very humble and sweet took his injury with 💓 that poor baby god and Jesus had other plans for him yet his jockey edgar the pain he must of felt at that moment when he went through the gate he should have been pulled immediately to damn bad about money edgar saved him from a worse situation and the Jackson's I believe fired mike matz Barbados trainer
he developed laminates a death sentence for a horse. they said he wasn't acting right that day he should of been scratch from the race but greedy people the almighty dollar wins over the horse..
If you really loved the horse, you wouldnt race it - People who race og even put jockeys on them and riding them out to the last, they dont love the horse, they love the moneys - and if the moneys dont come in, they cant use the horse. Facts, not love.
It’s nice to see an owner try but was what this horse was put through wasn’t fair. His last months just pain suffering and boredom stuck in a stable. When will people wake up and realise racing Kills
I believe they should have put the horse down because the horse was in so much pain. People were thinking with their wallet and not caring about the horse
Ruffian died more more worse and she was better than secretariat and other horses and better than barbaro I have the ruffian movie real one and one that is in German I got it for Christmas
Publisher spelled "laminitis" wrong, that's what they said he ended up getting in all four hooves (due to the vets feeding him too much food and medication, lack of exercise). They also put the horse to its death for no good reason, laminitis and abscesses are treatable, not deadly. Unfortunately, vets are "NOT" farriers, they give medicine that contradicts the issue and makes it worse, like my old vet from Stillwater Equine, so I got a new vet and no longer listen to ignorant vets. Poor Barbaro, he was another symptom of "practicing medicine", they took all the owners money, then killed the poor horse.
I am surprised at this comment. Barbaro had the best medical care a horse could ask for, Dr. Dean Richardson. of The New Bolton Center. Most people couldn't do what the Jackson's did to try and save him. His injuries were catastrophic, his right hind leg was broken in more than 20 places. Most horses would have been put down immediately. To say the vets were at fault and "killed the horse" is terrible, just terrible.
the horse is good..... but why does it say tha the kentucky derry is the best race a horse could win? no its not the priz del arc is the best u can win. this horse barbaro wouldn blow a win up see the stars arse, or work forse or goldikova or paco boy or youmzain or deligator or master crafts man or sariska or rip van winkle, look them up any one of them there all real super stars..... everyone knows irish and enhglish racin is head and shoulders above the rest....... fact
This an amazing video. I'm so touched. Thank you so much. Bless your little heart Barbaro.
I was crying the whole time and still am. Rip Barbaro he is missed💚
I was at work the next day and cried the whole day.. first on Sunday, then Monday…..beautiful horse
The most beautiful horse in my eyes forever 💙

Lovely Tribute Video. MUCH APPRECATION to ace jockey Victor Prado for pulling Babaro up ASAP sparing him more pain.
he was so young, cried through the whole thing
I never got over it.
Me either.. I moved to Kentucky near Churchill Downs so I could see him whenever I wanted. 💙
I was crying through this whole video
pro tip: you can watch series on flixzone. Been using them for watching a lot of movies recently.
@Enzo Guillermo definitely, have been watching on flixzone for since december myself =)

2:12 always makes me cry. The jockey was one of the people that took it sooo hard.

im crying now

Regina Barasch you are absolutely right
When you say he died i cry i miss him is so sad
3 years ago barbaro owners lost a horse again 😢😭😪 sad
Ah i have his breyer model..makes me sad just to look at it...i acctually thought he was gonna make it and i was checking his progress like everyday then he had to be put down and i cryed like so hard

Barbaro's dam is confirmed to be carrying Barbaro's full sister
barabaro shattered a bone in his ankle, then got laminitis on his other feet because of the extra weight he had to put on them. then eventually when everyone was thinking he was gonna be better, he developed abcesses on his front feet. he was in so much pain it was unfair to make him suffer
wait y was he put down he was my fav race horse

I was 7 and i saw Michael matz in real life before he got ingerd un real life and when i went to funeral
I cried so much my cheeks hurt
Plus the cannon bones is one of the worst bones to break. They almost never recover. If they do, they spend there life in a stall most of the time
Good photos, nice music but several key errors in text. He fractured his right hind pattern, not his left.
does anyone remeber Ruffian
actually the biggest race is the breeders cup classic but still amazing
Only issue with this is they kept saying his left leg when it was his right rear leg not left rear leg. Other than that good tribute.
that horse was not only gorgeous and beautiful he was huge I mean the chest alone yet so very humble and sweet took his injury with 💓 that poor baby god and Jesus had other plans for him yet his jockey edgar the pain he must of felt at that moment when he went through the gate he should have been pulled immediately to damn bad about money edgar saved him from a worse situation and the Jackson's I believe fired mike matz Barbados trainer
💚💚💚
Rip then kentucky derby king
I think the Jacksons also want a filly which would be a full-sister to Barbaro and I think "Calypso" is a female name from Greek mythology.
i know im late on the questions but why was he put down?
horsel0v301
he developed laminates a death sentence for a horse. they said he wasn't acting right that day he should of been scratch from the race but greedy people the almighty dollar wins over the horse..

for me it looked like the rider was more upset than the owner. which is pretty good in some way but it is also bad.
=( they tried so much for him, over here (UK) they would have put him down on course =( at least he had been given the chance to fight, still sad =(
Thank you
It’s nice to see an owner try but was what this horse was put through wasn’t fair. His last months just pain suffering and boredom stuck in a stable. When will people wake up and realise racing Kills
Mandy you don't know shit what makes you an expert on the subject!
Yet the thousands of horses killed on the track are … forgotten?
I believe they should have put the horse down because the horse was in so much pain. People were thinking with their wallet and not caring about the horse
Not picking on you...check the spelling in your video. Have a good day. Thanks for the video.
he was put down because his lamintitis was too bad and he had too much of it
Ruffian died more more worse and she was better than secretariat and other horses and better than barbaro I have the ruffian movie real one and one that is in German I got it for Christmas
